Welcome to the first edition of our Pokéjungle.net Magazine Newsroom. In this recurring series I will debrief everyone on the latest news and tidbits from the scenes of PJNM. Let’s start with the main point of today.

Survey

You may recall we did a survey two weeks ago. This survey was intended to gauge people’s expectation regarding pricing of the magazine. I will not represent the data graphically, as I just wanted a general outlook. The first thing that came to mind was that everyone’s price expectations for the number of pages was way too low. This posed us with a dilemma, lots of people wanted 50+ pages, but they still expect the magazine to be under $5. The reason why actual magazines are be able to do this is because they feature lots of ads, and print thousands of copies in advance. We don’t have those. However, I found a good compromise.

Pages

The number of pages is set to be between 40 and 45. This gives us room to do lots of different articles, with not having to resort to filler. It also won’t make the printed edition too expensive if you include shipping.

Printed Magazine Price

First, the bad news. A page count of 40 would mean the magazine is in the $8-9 price range. Sadly, we don’t have much say in this. Print on demand is still relatively expensive. However, I still believe we go through with those for following reasons. First, the printed magazine is intended for the real fans, and with only two (or three) copies a year, this won’t become an expensive endeavour. Second, we won’t take a mark-up on the magazine, to keep the price low and to show we’re not into profit-making. And last, we will make up for this in a number of ways. We will put our heart and soul into the magazine to make sure it is worth owning. This means unique content that will be hard to find on other Pokémon fansites. And…

Digital Magazine

All digital copies will be available free of charge. This is so you can experience the magazine yourself before deciding to buy it. It will also come with a license that allows you to print it for personal use or for relatives, providing you don’t make a profit off it. We first wanted to sell it for $1, because there are a few costs associated even with the digital edition. We’re still looking for a good place to distribute it free of charge, seeing as the magazine will be quite large in download size and we want you to have decent download speeds. We’ll also need money for stamps and letters to get written permission for articles, art,… We found a kind sponsor for all this however. He’s not tied to any company and we won’t put any real ads in the mag, but there might be a page or two written by him :).

And now some announcements regarding the content itself.

Readers’ Tree

Readers’ Tree is the name for our community section. A section named Through the Grapevines will feature the best comments from the past few months, carefully selected by the PJNM staff. Alderman’s Tree Stump will be our spotlighted commenter of the issue, featuring an extensive interview. And as a final announcement, we will hold a contest in where you can have your own opinion article featured in the game. The winner will receive a printed copy as compensation. More details on the contest in the following weeks.

Next time we’ll give a sneak peek at the PJNM logo, made by our own in-house artist moving. Until then!

          • speaking of which, I have a lot of fucking homework and two projects, most of them are due monday, and here I am playing pokemon while talking to people on pokejungle and listening to Lily Allen songs

          • Yep, I got a News Analysis thing to do right now and a…*gulp* Book report. I am royally fucked on that one.

          • I may just pick up a book I read before, find a summary online to refresh my memory, and do it. Nobody will ever know!

          • I was just one of those kids who never liked to read, I’m not even kidding when I say I was outstanding in spelling by playing Pokemon Emerald when I was 5

          • I used to read and love school so much. Now it’s “I want to go home.” I have a whole bin full of books and I have donated some of the books for younger kids, still no book fits in there.

          • Dude, school has changed so much. It depends on the teacher though.
            I hate giving up my old books though. I had a literal wall filled with books that I had to go through when my family moved recently.

          • I had the whole collection of Junie B. Jones books and I forgot if I donated the Magic Treehouse books but that was my favorite series.

            Have you read the Found series by Margaret Peterson Haddix? Those books are addictive and keep you on the end of your seat all the time. One of the few books that I read now.

          • Read Junie B. Jones, Read almost EVERY Magic Tree House, never heard of the last series sadly. I actually stick to reading young adult novels usually, I find them easier to read.

          • Sounds interesting. I’m a HUGE fan of the Percy Jackson series BTW. Got to write an essay for class on how badly the movie sucked XD

          • I’ve got pretty cool teachers (public schools suck where I live so I have to go to a catholic school filled to the brim with preps, dumbass bitches, and douchebags) I do have a biology teacher (I don’t know why catholic schools have science in their curriculum) that likes to fuck with the students, he even has this thing where if he points at us, we have to name something from a certain group (matter, bases, etc.) and if we don’t name it in 2 sec. or if the thing we said has already been said, then we have to write 100 examples of that group on looseleaf =A=

          • Damn… that’s rough. I got lucky with my high school teachers (I had the best math teacher of all time), except one who would drone on forever about something and then say what he just said all over again. I’m in college now and I haven’t ran into a bad professor yet and all my teachers are really good. Except Chemistry cause the class is just too hard. BTW your Biology professor sounds terrible.

          • Biology is the only reason I’m not 1st Track, I want to purposely fail Theology (cause I really do not like religion classes and most colleges don’t look at that grade) but my parents will get on my case if I don’t get 90 or above in every subject

          • Ouch… I feel you on the religion part. Had to spend the summer with a person who I SWEAR was with the Westboro Baptist Church.

          • I reinstate, why the fuck is science in a catholic school’s curriculum, teaching science in a catholic school is one of the biggest oxymorons

          • Agreed. Especially biology. Not trying to start a flame war, but BIOLOGY tells you there is no race. Seriously, there is as much difference between races as people IN the SAME race.
            Oh, and there are homosexual animals. Racism and bigotry at their finest.

          • when I asked my world history teacher who was the first person to harness electricity, I accidentally made it sound like I asked who created electricity and he said god, don’t get me wrong, he’s one of my cooler teachers but I facepalmed in my mind at the implication that my history teacher has no fucking clue what the water cycle is

          • … And suddenly Catholics dropped lower on my list. *Sigh* When will people open their eyes? But seriously, we aren’t the Greeks. We don’t make up myths to explain the world. And especially not in contradictory ways.

          • it gets worse, much, much worse. my theology teacher was telling us about this saint that when the swallows in this one european city migrate, they always come back on his feast day, really? last time I checked, swallows can be domesticated and used for things like this and even then, hibernation patterns would explain this anyway

          • … Monarch Butterflies… migrate from Canada to the EXACT SAME SPOT IN MEXICO taking the EXACT SAME PATH every time… oh, and don’t salmon do this too? Seriously it isn’t that hard to explain, the birds know they will get food there so they changed their migratory patterns to be able to get easy food. GEEZ.

          • sad thing is, I feel like if I challenge these ideas in anyway in school, I’ll just get thrown out, and I can not go to public school where I live. hell, they even have a trip where students can go to the March for Life (Pro-life protest)

            Oh, and apparently fetus’s learn while still in the womb. Just a thought, I’m pretty neutral but it makes you wonder. (a cradle puts babies to sleep because it reminds them of being in the womb.)

          • I’m currently a sophomore, and yeah I’m pro-choice, mainly because I think woman should be able to have that option in case something happens, plus I hate this logic catholics have that if abortion gets legalized, every woman will get an abortion

  24. Just got back from a Legendary Treasures prerelease. Before the last two packs, the only ultra rare I had gotten was the Full Art Reshiram from Radiant Collection, but in the last pack I opened, I got White Kyurem EX, and Full Art Meloetta EX. Happy!
