Mega Evolution: Who’s Next?

This post contains spoilers for Pokémon X & Pokémon Y. The comment section of this post will also contain spoilers for the upcoming games. Do NOT proceed it you wish to avoid details on the game.

When Mega Evolutions were revealed a couple of months back, fans were taken totally by surprise wondering what exactly we were being shown. Now that we understand just what Mega Evolutions are, we’re all guessing what Pokémon could be one of the select few to receive a Mega Evolution.

A while ago our close friend AAPF began researching trademark filings for Pokémon names. This research has previously uncovered Pokémon that have since received Mega Evolutions, and it seems highly likely that more Pokémon from this list will receive a Mega Evolution.

The following Pokémon have all had trademark registrations made for their names since the release of Black 2 & White 2, following the trend of other Pokémon with their names trademarked again there is a possibility these Pokémon will receive Mega Evolutions. Pokémon with a * next to their name have recently been confirmed.

It should be mentioned that this list is not a definitive list of Pokémon that could receive Mega Pokémon, that actual list could be a lot larger, or significantly smaller and we won’t find out until the games release. What Pokémon do you want to receive a Mega Evolution? Let us know!

    • I know it’s unrealistic, but I hope mega Sceptile would be grass/electric. Like the yellow seeds on his back could be like electric bolts or something. I don’t know, but it would be something different and fun and I really wish that Gamefreak would make riskier typings.

      • Imagine the huge battle between you and kyogre/groudon (kyogre for me)… Pokemon will probably be very advanced by then, and maybe thats why they are taking so long to make them, because they want to make it as beautiful as possible!

        • Imagine the scene from Emerald near that Water Gym city (forgot its name) where Groudon and Kyogre are battling and Rayquaza comes and stops them! The remakes might have their Mega Evolutions battling instead! MegaGroudon would cause extreme drought in the areas where it was sunny and MegaKyogre could cause flooding in the areas where it was raining (in Emerald)!

  36. And I hope Nintendo/Game Freak realizes that since they made Pokemon X&Y… theres no going back. They can’t try to push some 2D sprite world and with no character customization or mega evolutions or 700+ Pokemon and expect people will buy it. They basically have to make the game MORE EPIC than the last. THAT MEANS THE R/S/E REMAKES WILL BE SOOOOO EPIC IN 3D <3

            Something is confirmed to be in the game if there is sufficient proof for it to be so. You will play the game before nintendo reveals all the sugimori art for all the pokemon. So when you own the game, and you are playing it. Are the pokemon in your party not confirmed because Nintendo hasn’t revealed them?

            We recieve a leak from a source that has been CONFIRMED to have the game. For example, Josh, Kenpachi, or Kosthedin before he got nintendo’d

            Said leakers take photos of pokemon in the game, and put them on the internet. The pokemon is then confirmed to be in the game. This also applies to gameplay mechanics, items, areas, etc.

            Something is most certainly confirmed if a reliable leaker says it is. I don’t understand how you cannot grasp that.

            So do you still believe there are only 42 pokemon that have been discovered in X and Y? Because that is all that has been revealed.

            Attempt to explain your logic then. It literally makes no sense at the moment.

The safari zone isn’t stupid, it gives you randomly generated pokemon based off your friends list, and it gets bigger if you have more pokemon, that is AWESOME.

I like Mega Charizard X and the next person could like Mega Charizard Y more because Mega Charizard X is “uglier.” GameFreak could give us R/S remakes and I will be the happiest person alive. The next person could hate them. The point is that it’s hard to please everyone.

    Slip yourself into Game Freak’s shoes. Do you think it would be hard to create new Pokemon each time. Have people hate on them, say the game is the worst, etc. after they have worked so hard on the game.

    Pokemon have their respective fainting and in going in battle animations, attack animations are just fantastic, Super Training to make all competitive battler’s life easier, faster walking, adding more challenge, Fairy type, Mega Evolutions.

    They went all out with this game and the “no after game” or “only 70 Pokemon” is not confirmed.
    Even if that is true they are awesome 70 Pokemon and I have yet to see one that I dislike. Since you can’t please everyone, now people complain about the lack of Pokemon (which is not even confirmed). Would you like to have 70 awesome people or 150 Pokemon with some bad designs?

    I have yet to see a review for Pokemon X & Y that is less than a 7.5 (correct me if I’m wrong) Guess why? The games are magically delicious! Just because you might not like a certain feature doesn’t mean you should cancel your pre-order or not buy the game.

        • I refuse to think she is the champion because it is just…. WHY? How did she become the champion? Here is why I feel this way (Bulbapedia):
          – Diantha appears in Pokémon X and Y as a famous movie star that helps the player customize their clothes and hair at a Boutique and Salon. She is also a Trainer, but shows more interest in other Trainers who have real potential.

          How does a movie star/trainer with interest in other trainers become the champion? And why her? Why not Korinna, who holds the secret to Mega Evolution, or AZ, who defines the odds of Mega Evolution and can HAVE THREE ON ONE TEAM, or Sycamore, one of the brightest Pokemon professors devoting his time to learning more about the Pokemon world and about this newly discovered Mega Evolution?

          • With potential. She was influenced by Drayden and was young. Diantha? Has NO interest in Pokemon as much as Iris did, since she focuses on being a beauty star and trainers with potential. She doesn’t really deserve the position of Champion, but one’s devotion to trainers can really take you a far way.

          • All Steven did was go around and dig up rocks. Wallace was a gym leader with no inspiration. Cynthia, where did she come from? I have no means to start a war, but every champion has a past time. I for one am happy she is a champion. She is fitting the theme for beauty, is she not?

          • She is, but I guess I feel this way because of the fact that no storyline has been leaked. Hell, I felt this way with Iris when she was confirmed champion of BW2. Once more of the storyline and flow of the game is revealed, then I may change my opinion but I for one, was asking a question, and in no means did I want to start a war. I love Diantha, and am too glad she is champion, but all I wanted was some thoughts, not an argument, which wasn’t really my intention. I’m sorry if I offended you…

          • From Bulbapedia’s description it seems that she has no interest in being a Pokemon trainer, as her occupations (mainly) seem to be a movie star, a boutique and salon woman and PARTIALLY a trainer, with interest in aiding trainers who have real potential. Nothing here really indicates that she was going to be the champion, which I have to admit is a nice plot twist. Wonder how the storyline plays into all this…

    • I’m really excited to battle Diantha. Her main pokemon was fairly surprising, so she seems like a fantastic Champion to battle. I hope she has a mixture of Lance’s and Iris’s battle themes. Good night, though! 🙂

      • Her main Pokémon will be Mega Gardevoir, mine will be Mega Mawile. Her favorite (possibly) against my favorite. Hoenn Fairy Pokémon vs Hoenn Fairy Pokémon. But I have the type advantage since Steel is super effective against Fairy. I CANNOT WAIT FOR OUR BATTLE!!!

  93. A question for everyone: Have you ever made it to the Champion without knowing who he/she was and then being surprised once you found out? I have, once. For me, it was Blue in Fire Red. I was new to the Pokémon games and didn’t look up any information about the games (I didn’t have high speed internet at the time and didn’t know anyone posted information about the games on the internet). I also thought that Fire Red and Leaf Green were the first Pokémon games and therefore didn’t even know they were remakes.

So I just realized something, if there really is no other legendaries besides the Balance trio (Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde) and eventually event legends than there will only be about 2-3 movies for this generation since Xerneas and Yveltal will more than likely cover the first gen 6 movie and then Zygarde possibly for the second. Does that maybe mean it won’t take as long for a gen 7?

      2013 – XY
      2014 – RS Remake
      2015 – Z
      2016 – DP Remake

          • They don’t really have a reason to make DP remakes unless you know there is a new handheld released in 2016 that requires a remake of the 4th gen games but I don’t see that happening.

          • You realize they don’t make a new gen every year right. It’ll be a long time before they get to gen 7 let alone a filler remake game.

          • Exactly, we didn’t have a remake after BW and we waited two years for BW2, we didn’t have a remake for a year and now we have X and Y.Plus they put mostly every Pokemon in the games to make it so remakes are not needed, the only reason they made remakes for Red and Blue was to trade over to RSE and the same for HGSS to trade to DPPt.

          • For past couple years theynhave been releasing new games ever year. DP, PLT, HGSS, BW, BW2 and now XY all a year apart from another

          • No Pokemon game is bad…well aside from Ruby and Sapphire in my opinion due to a few short comings but Emerald make up for those faults. But other than those none of the Pokemon games are bad and we still play them even when they have a few faults.

      • Let’s hope sequel because we really don’t need remakes. Some people are going to disagree with me but I would rather see a sequel that has a completely new story and evil team (because Magma and Aqua were okay but they had more potential to be great).

    • Now, I know this is all complete speculation, but what if Generation VI will be divided into three parts.

      1. X/Y/Z Arc
      2. Hoenn Remakes/Sequels Arc
      3. Conclusion of the Black and White Arc

      We are already familiar with the first two. But for me personally, I feel that the Black and White Story never reached a conclusion. We still don’t know what the Tao Trio Master is, and we’ve been told about the Original Dragon (by Drayden), but we’ve never seen it. B2/W2’s strory felt a bit weak to me. There’s still no answer to what is more important, seeking out the truth or ideals? Obviously it’s both, but that was never addressed in the games. And I’d like to see N come back and have Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem be reuinited with each other. Not only that, but imagine how powerful the Original Dragon would be. Obviously it’d be too powerful because its BST would be over 700, maybe even higher than Arceus’. But, that is where Mega Evolution comes to play.

      • I could see this but it would be a bit strange to randomly have an ending game for the Black and White saga in gen 6. I personally would love to know more about the Original Dragon or Reshekrem or whatever it’s called but I can’t see them making a conclusion for Black and White a gen later.

        • Yeah I guess. They could at least have an in-game event that involves transferring the Tao Trio to X and Y. I imagine that each of them would have to hold a Mega Stone and then you use the DNA Splicers in order for all three to fuse together. I think that would be pretty cool!

        • Hoenn had really great starters (at least for the time it was relevant), but it had a lot of slow and nearly unusable/filler Pokemon (competitively). And, there weren’t a lot of really great type combinations (retrospectively). I really don’t see all the fuss about the “Hoenn hype”.

          I’ve been playing Pokemon since Gen 1 and I feel like each generation adds more to the complexity of the series as a whole and this generation (although a quite shallow in expectations) will be great.

          There is still potential for more things to come this generation. We haven’t experienced a generation on the 3DS (and Gamefreak loves to send us “wildcards”) so who knows what will come next…

  101. I said this in an earlier post but, if all of the starters from previous generations receive mega evolutions than I hope to see more type combinations such as Blastoise becoming
    water/steel.
    Generation2: Meganium grass/fairy, Typhlosion fire/ground.
    Generation
    5: Serperior grass/dragon, Samurott water/fighting. I know Blastoise
    was already revealed but if their is another version then it would be
    possible.

  104. Wow to be honest I’m starting to dislike the generation more and more. You only have 69 new pokemon. With 9 for starters, 3 for legendaries, 4 version ex. that only leaves you with 54 pokemons. Then the starters are so disappointing, as much as I try to lighten up to Dolphox, I just can’t. The legendaries, I must admit are gorgeous but come only 3. What happened GF. I bought the limited x and y 3ds just to play this game. $200 + $40=$240 on a game I’m not going to enjoy… Thanks GF

    • People like yourself are hilarious. You haven’t even played the damn game and you’re already jumping to conclusions. There’s a Snorlax of a difference between leaks and experiencing it for yourself.
      70 new Pokemon is more then enough when open minded people (those who enjoy the games and don’t hate) love the amazing new designs whilst also enjoying the experience of using older Pokemon in the newly improved battle system. There’s more to the game then how many mons they’ve made or whatever. Also LOL at another person who hates the starters.,

        • Even with more time, they would not have created more pokemon. The whole reason there are fewer new pokemon was to pace the franchise, not to finish this game.

          Otherwise they would have skipped on the megas and made around 100 new pokemon.

        • It is even more tough now (5th gen) than it was previously but with time everyone gets better.
          My advice is watch competitive battlers found on Youtube that are a good place to watch and learn like..Shofu, Pokeaimmd etc

          Secondly in comp. battling you have to accept that favourites or cute Pokemon aren’t always the strongest or best ones to use..
          Thirdly competitive battles are on another level. Strategy and variety is in abundance.
          There are different tiers where Pokemon are categorised based on how much they are used..naturally the highest tier is where the Pokes are used the most because they are the better ones..
          I prefer OU which is the most common tier..the strongest tier and most competitive…
          Ubers..well that’s not too important..

          Another thing..being unique is nice but your first task should be to learn the basics and stick to the basics..
          In comp. battles you learn there are so much threats..therefore you need to have balance in your team typing wise..weather is VERY common such as Drizzle or Drought..so opponents frequently carry weather based teams designed to destroy the opponent and also out do other fellow weather teams..
          Hazards are important..Stealth rocks is the most important move in the game because every time the opponent switches a poke in it takes damage..it also breaks dragonites multiscale ability..as well as destroy powerhouses like Volcarona..
          Dragons are also over powered so naturally you need a steel type to absorb there attacks so Jirachi/Heatran/Ferro are some good options HOWEVER keep in mind that many dragons have fire attack or HP fire so Ferro can get destroyed if they predict you to switch in..or Earthquake your heatran/jirachi..
          Keldeo is a big threat too and usually you want something that can cover it like Celebi or Jellicent..
          Priority is important EG if your opponent uses a Dragonite and Dragon dances and you have nothing to takes hits from it and nothing that can outspeed it because it’s used dragon dance then you’re screwed..that’s why you have something that hit it for sure like an ice shar mamoswine or a choiced scarf Terrakion which by the way is one of the strongest Pokemon in the game..
          Also remember the opponent and yourself is in a mind game battle..where you’re both thinking what move each is going to make next and whether that move is too obvious so shall I make this move predicting my opponent to predict me etc..Prediction is key..always remember that luck is a huge factor too!

          Similarly you have so many other threats that in time you’ll learn but the most imporant thing is not just covering threats but also building a team that works together well which again with experience you’ll get better..
          There are also different play styles..Hyper offense is when the opponent uses a team of VERY offensive pokes designed to just attack and attack..
          Stall however is the opposite where you wither down your opponent through spikes/poison etc by using defensive Pokemon to stall and annoy your opponent..
          When making competitive teams and pokemon then giving them the right nature and EV’s is important..a good place to start is Smogon they’ll tell you what sets to use etc and after a good time you’ll be able to alter the sets based on your own preferences.

    • A new ability? Most of the old gen Pokémon have two abilities and a Dream World Ability, and we know almost of the new Pokémon’s abilities. I sense more Pokémon to be revealed here. Yeah there’s way more than 70 new ones.

          • Never cared for Haxorus, and while Hydreigon has a good design, it never really stood out to me like Tyranitar and Metagross did before them. I think you can figure out, i don’t care much for Dragons…they dont appeal to me much (except Dragonite, but that’s nostalgia talking…)

          • Well just stating an opinion so it’s all cool. In Kalos though I like all the starter designs, and Pokemon like Aegislash, Malamar, Goodra, stand out to me so far. Will need to use some of the others to get a feel for them. But i’m liking them better than i did Gen 4 and 5.

          • Gen. 4 had some pretty awesome designs and gimmicks IMO. Gen. 5 had some good gimmicks, but some just failed, like the Monkeys for example.

        • I profoundly disagree. I’ll tell you which Pokémon I didn’t like that much on the Unova dex:

          -Unfezant (it didn’t stand out like a Pidgeot or a Noctowl, it was just too bland and “little”, it needed to be bigger and more magestic)
          -Stoutland (its’ prevos deserved better, they were awesome)
          -Swoobat (too weird for me)
          -Whimsicott (also too weird for me and not a decent Lilligant counterpart)
          -Garbodor (although it’s actually grown on me and I don’t hate it anymore, I simply don’t like it either)
          -Gothitelle (also a little weird for me)
          -Vanillux (the same as Garbodor)
          -Stunfisk (also too weird for me)

          And that’s it! And even these ones I don’t see as “forgettable”, I can see how and why people would like them, it’s just me that finds them too weird, we all have our tastes. For example my brother actually likes Stoutland a lot and I know of people who love Swoobat, Whimsicott and Vanilluxe! We all have our opinions and tastes. I’m not criticizing yours, you’re entitled to it, but I have to disagree on the “forgettable” Pokémon, as Unova had an awesome and unforgettable pokédex even if vast…

  127. Though I originally wanted to stay away from spoilers, the fact that only 69 new pokemon appear completely removes aby guilt. Good thing I’m going blind plot-wise! So, the final number of pokemon is 69. Since the game is unhackeable, we can bet on having one or two event legendaries hidden in the game. And who knows , maybe there will be new pokemon as dlc? Even better, though this would be wishful thinking, what if there were 30-40 new pokemon hidden in the game, not avalaible until Z? That would be a great hype strategy because it would make the third version truly worthwhile! All that we can be sure of is due to the lack of possible hacking, we can expect loads of ” mew under the truck” rumours about secret megas and pokemon.

    • They should just list all their attacks, and base stats in the near future. That way we will see what GF has come up with. So far, each Pokemon this gen seems to focus on at least two main points in the skill section or are very balanced.

    Because two things are telling me that that might not be the case. One is the Ground/host and Ground/Fairy that we got from that reviewer. They may have thought that Golurk was new and meant Rock/Fairy, but personally I don’t think so.

    • As far as I know, it is. The only Florges I’ve seen grew up from a yellow flower Flabebe, so it may have different colors. Maybe someone will figure it out before release. If not, then we just have to wait. I believe Flabebe evolves at level 19, then with a Shiny Stone, so getting Florges should fairly simple.

  148. I think I’ve decided on my team!
    I’ve been #TEAM_FROAKIE from the start, so he’ll be my starter.
    The second I saw Pancham I fell instantly in love, he’s so great.
    I wanted a Fire type on my team, I always as a rule of thumb keep to a strict Water/Fighting/Fire/Electric (or Grass) core in my teams. But I have really, really struggled to find a Fire type I like. I like Fletchinder, but Talonflame is a little meh for me. Pyroar is also a little boring for my tastes. So I’ve turned to Mega evos, breaking my “No non Kalos Pokemon” rule. I figure a Mega evo is new enough to warrant it. And I’ve gone for Mega Blaziken. As a Mega Fan (haha see what I did there XD) of Combusken, it’s kinda my duty really!
    When I saw Helioptile, I liked him, but I didn’t love him. Now that feeling has grown and I really do like him. Seeing Heliolisk was what decided it for me. He went straight to my team.
    I want to try a Fairy type in XY. I knew that as soon as the type was revealed. They’re new, they’re powerful, and I’m definitely looking forward to it. But for some time, I had difficulty finding one liked. Once I saw Floette that spot was pretty much filled, I was just waiting for its evolution to cement it, and Florges has done that. Flabébé may be a little meh in my opinion, but its evos are great, so I don’t mind at all!
    My final slot is going to be filled by Noivern. At first I didn’t really like him, but over the past few months he has crept up on me. I didn’t even realise that I actually really like the design until looking at it today! I think it helps that I really like Noibat too, he’s so adorable. I think I remember reading that Noibat is catchable pretty late though, so I will probably use Fletchling to start with, replacing it with Tyrunt/Goomy when I find them, finally finishing with Noibat when I see it.

    So my team is: Greninja, Pangoro, (Mega) Blaziken, Heliolisk, Florges, Noivern

    • I weirdly see deoxys as living in bee-like space colonies (deoxys forms are like castes, the mutation just allows them to flip at will) with the mega-evolution resembling the queen of the colony.

  166. You know, when I heard there were going to be only 70 new Pokémon, I was really disappointed. But then, I started to look at each new poke individually and I changed my mind. They are so high quality!! Look at Avalugg, for instance, it is SUCH A BADASS. Of course, there are some really ugly ones, like Binacle. But hey, we all love Voltorb, don’t we? In the end, what really matters is quality, not quantity.

  167. There is something that concerns me with the leakers:

    1.) Have they even completed the pokedex yet?
    2.) It seems that they are only training Kalos pokemon.. How would we know weather or not an old pokemon evolves if they are not even trying?Maybe some old pokemon evolve with trade.
    3) They could have possibly missed some new pokemon in some routes. (remember, people! Sneasle was very rare and only available in KANTO and in Mt.Silver, which brings me to my last point)
    4.) What if there are some hidden routes no one has explored yet, and they find some trainer with a newly evolved pokemon of an oldie in it? Remember Oldie evolutions didn’t count in the D/P pokedex until platinum (still waiting for my shuckle and dunsparce to evolve…)

    P.S. Even if there is TRULY only 69 pokemon in the game, I’m sure it will seem like more once we start playing the game.

    • They have apparently seen the national dex is sorta what we are basing it on. So far it is adding up. However, I gotta say this gen is starting to feel a lot like Sinnoh. Not very many new pokemon, and we got Mega Evolutions for older ones instead of new baby/regular evo pokemon. Overall though I’m rather pleased. The new pokemon all seem memorable and cool, and Mega Evolutions are bring relevancy to old pokemon. Also, since this gen has a very large pokedex for the area, I think it won’t at all feel stale like Sinnoh did (until platinum). Still interested in seeing if there is a legendary trio though…Guess they werent part of the main story this time?

  168. Something to note about this Gen’s leaks:
    I think they were much for fun to follow and get hyped over because they were all about exploration. I’m very glad that 3DS hacking is not very advanced; the steady trickle is far more exciting than the ROM infodump. If it were that way, everything would be already discovered!
    But we still have moveset changes, new moves and items, trainer rosters etc all to find through exploration, and that’s exciting!

      • Pangoro and Chesnaught share the Fighting type. Same for Tyrantrum and Barbacle sharing Rock type.Diggersby is Normal, which is pretty much useless. (sorry, hate normal) Don’t forget you’ll need to fly! Hawlucha could replace Pangoro for Fighting and could Fly. Barbacle could be replaced by Clauncher/Skrelp (especially Skrelp, if you get Y, because he is a virtual 3 type. You can keep its water moves when it evolves)even though you have Avalugg, who will probably use water type moves.

    • I’ll just cycle through pokemon. Catch whatever I like use it for a while then box it until later.

    • People actually aren’t complaining that much. The only dissapointing things are the reduced number of pokemon and the short postgame, but people here are constantly praising the design of the new pokemon, and all evidence points to a huge pre-league adventure! People have now practically fully expected megas too!

Kind of off topic, but I’m playing Pokemon Diamond in preperation of Y, and it occurred to me I missed a bit of dialogue, because I completely forgot to go to the library after fighting Byron, and instead went straight to go fight Candice. I did beat her, but with an extremely under leveled team with no real type advantages, though I did make an extremely smart switch from Torterra to Sneasel, which kept me from getting swept. The lucky paralyze on the bulked up Medicham helped too. But it was kind of nice to do a little bit of stuff out of order.

    I hope that Pokémon Z will bring more new Pokémon and mega evolutions. I think that Game Freak hadn’t the time to make more new ones, because modeling all of +700 and their forms is a hard task and cartridge memory consuming. Or it’s just a marketing strategy that opens the door to DLC…

  294. Wow, so much that I’ve missed (Gone all day Friday and Saturday, but I still check up on it.
    The Pokemon I’ve seen are really cool. Noibat is cute. And Flabebe’s final evo I wish could have been part grass, but oh well.
    Zygarde looks really cool as well, but I hoped it would look more Zish (like the shape is more pronounced) but I still like it and its typing.
    The Gym Leader’s types I have no problem with (except Clemont should have been Steel, but oh well. Too many electric type gyms). I am most excited about the Psychic type gym because I have wanted another one since ever. But I am disappointed that Dark isn’t a gym, but I’m glad it’s not in the E4.
    Speaking of the E4, I love the types. Sure we have gotten Fire and Dragon before (but it’s not as common as Dark) but Steel and Water are new and I like it.
    Diantha being Champion shocked me, but I have wondered about her role. Mega Gardevoir looks majestic and I’m glad they didn’t butcher the Mega design :D.

  324. Everybody is talking about the pkmns they want to have in their team, but I can only think in which ones i do NOT want in it. Here’s my top-five of the worst (designed) pokemon in this generation. The list is based in personal tastes and their appearance (not their tactical value), so I hope nobody feels offended about it. Hope you to like my list and opine which are your worst pokemon of the generation:

    5 Slurpuff (Swirlix evo): I love its prevolution. That’s why I was so dissapinted when they revealed the evolution. Seriously, a pkmn based on a cupcake (or something like that) shouldn’t exists. It simply looks like the awful friend of Strawberry Shortcake.

    4. Aegislash (Honedge final evo): I loved Honedge when it was revealed, and now I think Game Freak has lost a very good chance of doing a pokemon based in an enchanted armor. I would be amazing. Instead of that we have a sword that evolves into two sword that evolve into another sword. (Am I the only one that thinks that there’s something wrong in that evolution chain?).

    3. Carbink: I don’t like this pokemon simply because I do not undestand it. Can anyone tell me in what is it based? I do not even see the shape of it. Is kind of rabbit hidden in a rock? Is it a floating diamond or something? Does it evolve? Please, not another Farfetch pokemon; please, not another that brings nothing to competitive gameplay.

    2. Dedenne: “Been there, done that” is what Game Freak should thought when designing this pokemon. If there is something worst that all what we have seen, is a pokemon that we have ALREADY seen. I will never undestand why Game Freak is sooooo obsesed with electric rodent-like pokemons. Every generation there is a crappy pokemon like that, very cute, with not very good stats and that really doesn’t bring anything new under the sun. I am so tired of Pikachu copies that I do not undestand why Game Freak tries to improve the electric rodent pokemons that we already have. Where are the evolutions of Pachirisu, Emolga, Plusle and Minum? Hey, this one, at least, is fairy-type. I guess that’s why it isn’t in the first place.

    1. Barbaracle: And here we are, with the worst pokemon designed in this generation. Seriously? I think it makes Stunfisk look like the pretty girl in the class. If they eanted to create a pokemon based in barnacles, I am sure there would be better options. The worst of all, is that we already know its type, which has been reused since firts generation Omastar and Kabutops. Instead of that, why didn’t they give a decent evolution to Corsola, who has been screaming for it for years? Sometimes, I just can’t understand what Game Freakers are thinking in. About Barbaracle, I only have one word: NEXT!

    • Probably because its an easy gym to prepare against. Bring a fire or rock type move(not even a pokemon) and you’re good. And who knows maybe so your dragon type doesn’t plow through everything lol

    • I think 1-3 are all confirmed to evolve level up. People seem to think that Sylveon evolves by maxing out Amie stats. We haven’t gotten any info about Espurr, but all other regional cats evolve via Level up. Furfrou doesn’t evolve and all fossil Pokemon so far evolve via Level up.

  386. So a thought on the current lack of legendaries/postgame content

    In the past, some of the methods for unlocking certain areas were either time consuming or just plain oblique. For a recent example, consider the Nature Preserve in B/W2, which required you to see every pokémon in the regional ‘dex. No leaker has managed that so far, so who knows what that might unlock.

    As far as actual pokémon are concerned, do you remember how insanely weird the conditions for unlocking the Regis in R/S were? Or finding Spiritomb? And until the code is hacked and we can see EVERYTHING hidden in there, we’ve got no idea how many secret or event Pokémon are in there that we don’t know about yet.

    There will be more to come. There’s a lot of pessimists out there right now, but there will be more. If nothing else, we’ve NEVER not had a region with a trio and a pixie.

      • No pics yet. Even if they are there, it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve had previous gen legendaries in the game. Latias/os have been catchable in a number of games, the legendary birds and Mewtwo were in HG/SS, as were the Hoenn box legendaries. And the Regis and Cresselia were in B/W2, IIRC.

        Plenty of precedent for older legendaries in newer games, no precedent for a lack of regional trio.

    • We might be able to catch just about everything based on what this weird Safari Zone mode is, it seems to randomly generate Pokemon to some extent, so it’s possible the Pokemon not in the Kalos dex will be catchable through it.

  434. Hey guys. I’m going to take time and adress the crying and “critisism” about the game.

    1. Story: People have been complaining about the story for being simple but 1. Simple =/= bad 2. Story really doesn’t matter when it comes to how great a game is(i’ll get in to that later) and 3. I’d rather have a simple story than a complexed story that’s badly written like most modern RPG games.

    2. Gamplay: Now criticism about gameplay IS the most just since gameplay matters the most in a video game but there really is nothing to complain about. Yes it’s the same but what did you expect from the Main games and from what I hear the games are much harder this time arround.

    3. Gymleaders and E4 members have low numbers of Pokemon: Can’t argue against it so THAT is just criticism.

    4. Low number of Pokemon: This is to be exspected since the even games ALWAYS have lower number of Pokemon compared to odd gens. Also one of the biggest things people hated about the 4th and 5th gen is that there were too many legendaries well you got your wish so deal with it.

    5. Aftergame: The main game is already long enough and there reall isn’t much in the aftergames to begin with this is nothing new.

    6. Design of new Pokemon: The most stupid criticism thust far. Just because a Pokemon has questionable looks doesn’t it’s terrible but if a Pokemon has bad stats, and moves THEN YES it’s a terrible Pokemon. Also Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

    Keep in mind Mind guys, Most of us HAVE NOT EVEN PLAYED THE GAME, get the game then judge it for yourselves. I’m looking foward to X and Y aswell as battling online with you guys.

    • I agree in that it’s dumb to judge a game based on leaks. Obviously leakers cannot explore everywhere. We don’t even know that 70 is the cap and how many more megas there are.

      There are now well over 700 Pokemon, and GF is probably paranoid about that. Keep in mind that with every gen jump, GF is responsible for devving those Pokemon. They cannot just rehash old Pokemon every gen. Over 700 models with attacks and strategies and other features…that’s a lot to develop. Sure, the game isn’t a huge amount of space (which is a good thing for everyone wanting to DD it). But space doesn’t determine how much work goes into a game.

      Gym leaders never have had full rosters and post games have always sucked, the story was always made simple as the market is still younger children (even as they try to appeal to older fanbases). What people like is a giant hit and miss. People should enjoy what they like and accept what they don’t care for because someone else might like it.

      Anyone who dislikes this game based on phone pictures are judgmental assholes.

    • I disagree with the story part. I enjoy games that tell a captivating story. Though I love Pokemon the story telling could be a lot better, its a shame GameFreak took a step backwards from B/W/B2/W2 because it was a step in the right direction.

    • They order the exact number of copies that have been preordered. So, if they have five preorders, they will order enough copies, then whatever is left over from shipment from GF can be put on the shelf. You are guaranteed a copy if you preorder. I would, however, call to make sure they hold it for you if you are going to be late. I waited too long and they once sold my preordered copy of a game to a buyer claiming they didn’t ‘realize’ it wasn’t a shelf item.

    • One of the reviewers said that they have yet to find any minigames outside of Pokemon training and battling… and then listed it as a good thing.

      He/she said that the past games have lost focus and didn’t put enough emphasis on the real focus of the game, battles, and then said that the lack of other side features helped the game focus on battling more.

      What? Who else ever felt that Contests made the game worse? Contests are merely a side-quest that you can choose to use or ignore and do not detract from the battling at all.

          • I usually ignored them completely and it didn’t really affect me, however, I would rather GF pumped a lot more of its resources into making better gameplay for the main sections of the game than put in time and space for stupid side games.

        • I wouldn’t even consider Medals a side quest stuff, they were straight up achievements, something that is pretty much in most games nowadays anyways. Now it might have you DO the side quest stuff to get all of them, but that’s what Achievements have you do anyways.

        The musicals were TERRIBLE. The 4th gen contests were ‘meh’ at best. However, Hoenn contests were extremely addictive and could be improved so much….I guess I’ll just have to wait a couple years for the remake.

            I loved Contests in the anime (I might want to Coordinate if Pokemon was real) and think that they desperately need to be brought back to make Serena strong. She can’t share the same goal as Ash (gym battles) or the series would get too repetitive with double gym battles. Contests gave Dawn and May purpose and they were great. Iris just felt like a tag-a-long and I don’t want Serena to receive the same treatment.

  506. It’s time to admit guys. There’s no reason it keeping it secret since it already has been discovered.

    Last year we, along with other major Pokémon sites like Serebii and Pokébeach were contacted by Nintendo. They wanted to trick the whole fanbase that they would bring out totally new games, while they actually were working on 3DS Hoenn sequel. We worked along to devise some Pokémon and settings. Gamefreak only made those into still screenshots and occasionally a video. But most of that was testing for the 3D engine for Hoenn. There was a lot of stuff that will get re-used though, and some of the pokemon you’ve seen are real but there are a lot as of yet unrevealed.

    Why do you think Pokébeach got those accurate leaks? It’s because this was a set up all along and they were our ideas that were eventually put in the game. Josh, zar, Kanpachi, all are Nintendo employees, playing the ‘leaks’. In reality, they just exist to build hype for the games. Coming October 12th, Nintendo will put out a Nintendo Direct saying that XY won’t launch that day but instead RS2 will release the week after. They used us to distract from those games so they could bring the biggest surprise ever to you.

    First theorie – Since AZ created Yveltal maybe he used many pokemon to give life to it!
    Second theorie – Maybe since Yveltal is Dark-type and weak to Fairy-type, he lost in a battle to Xerneas and Team Flare revived it using the lives of many pokemon.
    Third theorie – Xerneas is the Life Pokemon so it died once and to revive it they had to use the lives of many pokemon.
    But I believe more in the first one since theleaker is playing Pokemon Y

  562. Before Mega Evolution was revealed, I thought the new type of evolution GF would reveal would be “DNA evolution”. Take the host and take some DNA from another Pokémon and it’ll evolve. For example, take some DNA from Sableye, give it to Mawile, and it’ll evolve (Mawileye). Take some DNA from Mawile, give it to Sableye, and it’ll evolve (Sabwile). Oh well. This works too.

    I always like physical copies but I have heard they sometimes get corrupted thanks to a scratched cartridge or something. With physical copies I can play on any 3DS.

    Digital copies don’t get corrupted. Only playable on your 3DS. Take up space on a memory/SD card. Broken SD card = bye bye game (unless you have a Club Nintendo account associated with the e-Shop I believe.)

  741. So i don’t know if anyone has noticed this but I think that Zygarde in Pokemon Z, if we have one, will tie in greatly with the plot and Team Flare’s goal. I mean it can sense when people are destroying the environment!! Come on, who else is thinking that Team Flare would use this ability to their advantage? And they could use its aura breaker to stop Xerneas and Yveltal from trying to stop it! Let me know what you guys think of this idea!

        • My problem with Battle Subway was that it seemed to gimmicky (trains, really?) and that it copied Battle Tower for no reason at all.

          At least this new facility seems to have some new features and it gives you ranks depending on how well you do.

      • Ha ha, no, some reviewers have said that it’s on par with BW’s. Most reviewers have complained about the game not having a strong story, but that just means that it probably wasn’t hyper-dramatic like Final Fantasy. The story of X and Y is probably just the same as it has ever been with the Pokemon games- nice, to the point, but not heart-moving (with the exception being the tear-inducing Mystery Dungeon games).

          • It could be heart-warming, but it could also be played out as kind of goofy. Unless the player also reacts lovingly towards the rival, it’s kind of one-sided and not too moving. But it may be a nice touch.

        • As I said hours ago, I would rather have a simple story rather than an over complex story that’s poorly written. There’s handfull of tnose these days.

    • I think its the build up of things.

      The one that became mega had reached its peak. ANd it was a known peak for awhile. So it found the strength to mega evolve.

      As far as game freak is figuring that out.
      I think they are thinking “The Kalos exclusive pokemon need to grow up some before they can handle mega”

      This can be resolved with “Pokemon Z”

      PLUS. newer pokemon still need to find popularity in the pokemon fan community. And right now were are just meeting them.

    • Most definitely, I think. It probably isn’t too hard to edit two rocks into the game. If I was GF though, I wouldn’t have made such specific ways to make them evolve, because they’re stuck incorporating the rocks again into every other Pokemon game now.

        • The same goes for the ones that evolve in certain gaves, like Probopass and Magnezone. We’ve seen them retcon Feebas’ evolution, but I don’t want them doing that too often.

          Someone brought up that Amie needs to be in every game now that we have Sylveon evolve through it, so I guess by the same logic we’ll need the M/I Rocks in every game along with the magnetic cave.

  794. I’ve seen a bunch of teams being listed, but is anyone going to challenge themselves in any way? Monotype, no evolution, Nuzlocke sort of challenges?

    My X will have my preplanned team, but my Y will have some sort of challenge incorporated. I’m thinking of doing a semi-nuzocke thing where I can only catch the first Pokemon that I run into in each location, but I’ll ignore the permadeath rule. It might make the game interesting.

    • My friend is doing a sort of Nuzlocke, which is exactly like your semi-nuzlocke idea. He thinks that it will be more like an adventure that way.

    • I will probably do a challenge I made for my second run of X. It is like a nuzlocke but there is no death clause. I can only catch the first Pokemon on each route (dupes clause being active), I cannot use items I find on the ground aside from TM’s and I have to sell them immediately, and I am only allowed to buy 5 of each item at a Pokemart.

    • Maybe if it’s a better version of the small form and not just the same thing but bigger I would be okay with it. Not to sure about people who love to catch em’ all as that would mean they would have to wait until Halloween. Then again they could just change the date… I would like it.

      They already did this with Drifloon, I always seemed to miss them xD

    • I think it’s just like those fishing huts where they tell you how big your Magikarp is, and then after they tell you your Magikarp is too small and make you feel emasculated, you realize that there really is no difference in size and they’re making it all up. There is no real giant Magikarp.

    • I would love there to be more in game variables and strategies (or pure luck), involved with catching a larger Gourgiest. I hope it’s similar to a feebas hunt, and that there are other formes, small, medium, large, giant, ect. Each more rare as it become larger.

  803. Ok I need to ask this big question on my mind atm after seeing it in the Kalos dex: Say a trainer (1) has a Shelder, and another trainer (2) one has a Slopoke. Then the trainer (1) shelder bites the slopokes tail and evovles into a Slobro. So now who does the Slobro belong to now, Trainer (1) or Trainer (2)?

          • Honestly I’m getting tired of every ghost type Pokemon’s dex entry involving some sort of haunting children/guiding spirits bullshit. It’s a pumpkin. Make the dex pumpkin related.

          • Golett and Golurk’s entries aren’t tragic, it was kind of created to be a guardian/heroic Pokemon of sorts. Admittedly, that’s just one, and I can’t think of all of them off the type of my head.

          • Though it’s original dex made it seem like it’s gems might contain souls, but that was glossed over fairly quickly.

            Phantump first appeared when people began celebrating Halloween. This fun-loving Pokemon sought to frolic with the children so it disguised itself as a playful jack-o-lantern.

  815. Mega Gallade, Toxicroak, Typhlosion, Infernape, Bisharp, and definitely Sceptile. We need Mega Sceptile. Grass/Dragon, Grass/Fighting, Grass/Dark, Grass/Steel? Anything that emphasizes the blades, and maybe give Leaf Blade another buff (100 Power, 95 Accuracy?), and another ability like Tough Claws that boosts offensive moves.

    • Yeah, I ALWAYS do the Grass, Fire, Water trio….I am having to modify that.

      Grass = Florges
      Fire = Delphox
      Water = Dragalge

      They are close enough, and have an affinity for those elements anyway. So I am feeling good about it regardless.

    • That’s the problem with having only 35 fully evolved Pokémon. It’s almost impossible to create a balanced team of only Kalos Pokémon.

      • I always try to have:
        Fire
        Water
        Electric or grass (Preferably both)
        Flying
        Dark or ghost
        And ground (I guess rock will have to cut it this generation)
        I can’t for the life of me figure out how I’m going to do this! At least with a delphox as my starter. You are practically forced to have hawlucha and I’m not overly fond of pokemon that don’t evolve because their stats aren’t typically that great. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

        Delphox- fire/psychic
        Heliolisk- Electric/normal (Should be electric/ground…..)
        Aurorus- Rock/ice (Will serve as my earthquaker)
        Hawlucha- Fight/Flying
        Dragalagae- Poison/Dragon (Will serve as my water type)
        ??? I’d like to use gourgeist but I really want a fairy type. I could have both if I use dedenne as my electric and fairy but is there any confirmation as to if it is any good at all? Have we seen it’s stats? If it’s anything like the other pikachu’s cousins…(-Shudders-) But have we seen it’s stats at all? If it is decent it would really help me out.

        • I’m having the exact same problem! I guess I’ll have to use an old Water-type pokémon, since I’m choosing Chespin as my starter and I’m playing Y (so no Clawitzer)… As I don’t like Barbaracle at all, I literally have no choice…
          To make things easier, Dragalge should stay Poison/Water, Florges should be Grass/Fairy and Dedennne should evolve!

    Gen 1 – Red, Green, Blue (Charizard, Venusaur, Blastoise)
    Gen 3 – Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire (Groudon, Rayquaza, Kyogre)
    Gen 6 – ?

    Now, I don’t know if anyone’s pointed this out yet, but look at the legendaries. Xerneas is BLUE, Yveltal is RED, and Zygarde is GREEN.

    There is no way this pattern is a coincidence.

  839. Having issues posting pics, but Josh hasn’t stopped yet. He was in a battle with his Sylveon, and it got burned. Well, thanks to his Pokemon Amie Affection with Sylveon “Josh blew on the burn, Healing Sylveon” happened

    Also, Phantump has Natural Cure and a new grass move called Forest’s Curse, which turns the opponent into a grass type.

    Pumpkaboo has Pickup, no new moves.

    Moon blast has 95 base power i believe.
