[RECAP] October Corocoro, Official Site Update & More

Recap of the week

After almost a week of server issues, we’re back! And hopefully better than ever. As you were all hopefully aware we were using a specially created PokéJungle tumblr in order to deliver you news as quick as possible, and despite having to use a different platform we still got you news faster than other sites! Now that we’re back at our usual home we thought we’d give our readers a recap of what’s happened in the Pokémon World of the last week…

Special Broadcasts & Announcements

  • The Pokémon Company announced that on Monday 16 September they have a surprise announcement for Pokémon fans. It seems as though it’s related to the accidental trailer uploaded to the Official Pokémon YouTube channel earlier this week, advertising the website GottaCatchEmAll.com
  • Pokémon Smash will finish at the end of September. The show will resume airing again under the new name of Pokémon Get☆TV on October 6, and will feature the return of some fan favourite hosts, as well as some new but familiar faces!
  • Pokémon: The Origin will broadcast in Japan on October 2 at 7pm and will run for approximately an hour and 50 minutes, if possible we will provide a live stream of the special broadcast, stay tuned!
  • On September 23 a special broadcast will be made in Japan focusing on the Pokémon X & Y games, XY anime and Pokémon: The Origin. Stay tuned for more details on our coverage of this!

Pokémon Smash X & Y Special

Yesterday we covered the Special XY Episode of Pokémon Smash, for our brief write-up, please click HERE!

Official Pokémon Site Update

The official update with new information about some of the Pokémon revealed in the recent CoroCoro leak! First, the starter evolutions:

  • Quilladin is the evolution of Chespin “When Chespin evolves into Quilladin, the hard spikes on its body grow even sturdier. Despite its prickly appearance, Quilladin is considered a gentle Pokémon that avoids battle.”
  • Braixen is the evolution of Fennekin “Once Fennekin evolves into Braixen, it no longer eats branches. But it still keeps a tree branch in its tail, which seems to calm the Pokémon.”
  • Frogadier is the evolution of Froakie “Frogadier evolves from Froakie, and when it does, its jumping skill improves. During battle, Frogadier confounds its opponents by leaping about the ceiling or into trees.”

Next, some of the others who were revealed!

  • Furfrou is the mysterious white dog from earlier this month. Its hair can be styled
  • Meowstic, just as Beach’s leaker said
  • Tyrunt is the mini t-rex. It has the Strong Jaw ability
  • Amaura is the Rock/Ice fossil Pokémon. It has the Refridgerate ability
  • Pyroar has distinct gender differences

In addition, a NEW feature has been revealed!

  • Trainer PR Videos allow you to make 10-second clips of you and your Pokémon!

Pyroar Reveal

IGN.com exclusively revealed the Royal Pokémon Pyroar earlier this week, after a few issues with the Pokémon being leaked early that is!

    • So some of the stuff I’m about to post may be old hat, but here goes…

1.Mewtwo X using what appears to be high jump kick

2.either Bonnie or clemont has a dedenne

      3. Probably Clemont, could Bonnie be the new Max?

      4. Look at the third pic and u can see flabbergasted multicolored

          • Nerd! just kidding binary is so strange though, about as strange as braille in the Pokemon world. Still never knew why exactly braille was used in RSE.

      • I think the Mega Mewtwo-X was using was giga impact. I think a user called “Number” said the text was Japanese for giga impact when it was shown on smash.

        Reply
      • I think you are right. Must be Bonnie with Dedenne. In the anime poster it looked like there was something on her head but I couldn’t work it out. Maybe it’s a Dedenne?
I can’t wait for the new games, will help us get through another miserable winter!

        Reply
      • Him/his sister having a Dedenne would mean he’s an electric type leader… I would be disappointed to find Clemont to be another one, since apart from generation 2, we’ve gotten one in every region. His name suggests having to do with “lemon” but that doesn’t tell us much about his pokemon preference, probably just his hair. I’m hoping his love for technology might mean steel type instead.

  3. Thanks so much – you guys are my no.1 for pokemon news!! Question – is this ‘announcement’ tomorrow going to be a Direct? Or just a statement via the website or twitter? Because I’m out all day but if it’s a video announcement I’mma find a Mcdonalds and leech off their wifi to watch xD honestly I’m not sure what other ‘big’ reveals they could have left after this last amazing week…

  4. “Mewtwo Y learns Hypnosis”
Why not write Mewtwo learns Hypnosis?

I mean its not like there can be varying learnsets for temporary in-battle formes. Its a Mewtwo outside of battle.

  7. Thanks for making the temporary blog , guys. Good to know that the site is back.
I have a question though. What’s gonna happen to Gen 1 week?

    Reply
    • Gen I week will sadly be cut short, I think there are two more articles to go our. But then we will move straight on to Gen II.

We want to have the dates to line up to XY release date, and we’re already behind 🙁

      Reply
        • Well they weren’t actually recently created. Remember that dream Pokemon someone talked about in Generation 1? 4 Generations later came Munna! These designs could date back to first/second generation but were never used or saved for a later time! By now they could have half of the next generation (Gen 7) Pokemon! The starters and their evolutions were made even before the announcement of X & Y.

          Reply
      • To be fair, some of these pokemon we depicted in unflattering angles…okay, maybe just one…Quilladin. It looked much better from a hovering view of the 3D model. Maybe he’ll have better luck if their is something similar to dreamworld art.

        Reply
    • On paper? definetely…In 3D? Hell no, Quilladin is actually improved in 3D (I like the frowny expression when it goes to attack), Frogadier has some badass ninja pose….and Braxien, the way it pulls out the stick, it lights on fire and then it uses it as a wand…Let’s just say I’m leaving attack animations on!

  12. I have a feeling the final evolutions for the starters are going to be Grass/Steel, Fire/Fairy, and Water/Fighting. Now looking at the type chart this does in fact make two triangles. The Grass/Fire/Water one we’ve always known but it makes the triangle Steel/Fairy/Fighting too. This isn’t the one we’re hoping for, but it seems to be the most likely.

    Reply
    • The problem being it wouldn’t actually make a trio with the starters though. The Dark/Psychic/Fighting works because they are able to hit each other with super effective damage uninfluenced by the Grass/Fire/Water triangle. In terms of the starter matchups, Chespin would be at a disadvantage because Steel would only do normal damage on Fennekin, and he’d otherwise be weak to both Froakie and now 4x weak to Fennekin. No matter how to break up the other triangle, something will only do normal damage. If Grass/Fighting, Fire/Steel and Water/Fairy, which the latter two have no chance of happening anyways, the Water will cancel out the Fairy, so steel does normal damage, though no one is put at a major disadvantage. If Grass/Fairy, Fire/Fighting*which also is NOT happening*, and Water/Steel, the fire will cancel out the fairy so it will only do normal damage, and also make Chespin lose it’s weakness to Fire, and Froakie it’s weakness to Grass. I do know that something kind similar happened in Gen IV, but either way, Dark/Psychic/Fighting, can mesh with the starter types, and allow super effective damage any which way it would want. Besides, the Pokebeach Leaks do say Fire/Psychic and that one never changed, and Fennekin is learning a crap ton of Psychic moves, so that one seems to be just about a lock at this point.

      Reply
      • Yeah, I was thinking about Fennekin bceoming part Fairy and having the Fairy-Fighting-Steel combo then i thought ‘They’d never had a x4 weakness for a starter’
But then I also thought, they’d never have a starter resisting another starter (only with Dark/Psychic) but it’s more plausible than Grass/Steel

        Reply
        • Swampert? Charizard? They have 4x weaknesses. And Quilladin is most likely a combo of quill and paladin, a heavily armored knight, which is where I get Grass/Steel.

          Reply
          • Charizard did pop into my head but I completely dismissed it!
Whoops, but I dunno, either way, it won’t matter to me, having all 3, and if Fennekin becomes part Fairy it’s good cause I want one on my team this gen

          • Mudkip then turtwig then charmander but personally they would be the 3 i would pick as a trio out of all starters lol

          • Did we all forget that Pupitar, a heavy shell, evolves into the cool and dark type Tyranitar. And how Bagon evolves into a big shell (shellgon) before becoming the voluptuous Salamence?

Quilladin will break out of his shell and evolve into a dark type bigger chespin, I can see it.

      • There are a few issues with your assessment.
        – Fairy does NOT resist Fire. Fire actually resists Fairy. If Chespin’s final evolution were a Grass/Fairy type, it would take super effective damage from Steel AND Fire. Neither of Chespin’s final evolution’s STABS would deal super effective damage on Fennekin’s final OR Froakie’s final.

        Reply
        • Or, that wasn’t what I said. I wasn’t talking about Fire vs Fairy. I was talking about Fairy vs Fighting, because my entire point was talking about this reverse triangle. And Fighting is weak to Fairy. But Fire DOES resist fairy, which was my main point, so a grass/fairy vs fire fighting vs water steel still wasn’t a triangle. Which in the end, still proves my point.

          Reply
        • It would be super effective on Fire then, yes, but it wouldn’t be a real trio, because Rock isn’t super effective on Psychic or Fairy. Plus, it would get rid of Chespin’s weakness to fire, and then Fennekin no longer has STAB super effective damage on Chespin at all. Thus, breaking the trinity.

          Reply
    • I agree, I mean after all in CoroCoro it said Quilladin learns Mud Shot to deal with Fire weakness, Frogadier learns Bounce to deal with Grass weakness, but Braixen doesn’t learn any moves that help her weaknesses. Perhaps her Psychic moves help her future Fairy weakness to Poison? Also Braixen uses a wand, just like a Fairy.

      Reply
    • I don’t see fennekin becoming fairy type. The wand/broomstick, learning psyshock, and simply the assumption that if one of the starters was a new type almost everyone would pick it over the others, are the reasons why i think it won’t be fairy.

      Reply
          • true but keep in mind that vulpix didn’t learn a legit psychic type attack until 4 gen (and it was extrasensory which a number of non psychic types learn ex: shiftry)

          • yeah me and you are in the same boat here. I always wanted ninetails to become a psychic type but it couldn’t even be taught psychic or even shadow ball

          • I agree.

            Although:

Fennekin’s line, Ninetails, and Zoroark, are all 3 based on the “Kitsune”. A japanese mythical fox that was depicted in different ways.

Fennekin was made Fire/Psychic cause although its a Kitsune, it gets more inspiration from a Wizard. Thats where its psychic abilities come in.

If anything Ninetails/Zoroark are candidates to be retconned to Fire/Fairy and Dark/Fairy. Both of them have huge mythical stories/pokedex entries behind them, one even has powers of summoning a drought and one has the powers of illusion. Perfect traits of a fairy.

    • What if the starters do get the leaked secondary types, but in a different order?

      Chespin: Grass/Fighting
      Fennekin: Fire/Dark
      Froakie: Water/Psychic

      The second triangle still works.

  13. Hrm. I hope there is something unexpected tomorrow. Yes, I know we are getting the kind of stupid Pokerap thing, but it also is coming along with a website. I just hope the WEBSITE has something interesting. My fantasy right now is that it’ll be dedicated to X and Y Pokemon, and will have a rough Pokedex area, where we basically see how everything is laid out numerically, and maybe even see what the number of Pokemon we will be getting. Extremely unlikely though.

Braixen with a witch’s hat, longer legs, and a true magical wand, and an orange color scheme.

Quilladin with a slim body and a broken shell, using one of its pieces as a sword. It could look like a tall and skinny Excadrill.

    • Chespin: knight
      Fennekin: witch/wizard
      Froakie: ninja/theif/rogue/fighter
They are all based off classic rpg classes. Cheap in is a knight/paladin (grass/steel probably, or maybe a grass/dark dark knight), fennekin is a Mage (obviously fire/psychic) and froakie is like a theif/rogue/fighter class (water/fighting or water/dark)

  18. So Im not sure if anyone else realized this or not, but Mega Pokemon are gonna be Kalos exclusives. While the mega stones are regular items that will be transferable, the key stone and that wristband thing are def gonna be key items. So unless they change the me mechanic in future gens, mega evolution will be a Kalos-only mechanic

    Reply
    • … So? Fossils used to be Key Items, but they changed that. Are they going to prevent us from having Black and White Kyurem now, because that was a Key Item in BW2. Also Deoxys only changed forms based on it’s region in the past, but they added in the meteors so you could change it. Plus, if they do a RS Remake/Sequel this generation, are Mega Evolutions not going to be compatible with it? Despite being in the same generation, and AFTER the introduction of Mega Evolutions? If they want to keep them, they’ll keep them, just give us the key items in the LATER games too.

I am loving every new Pokemon confirmed for this so far, and nothing is going to stop me to love anymore of them on the way! I love Pokemon since 1999 or 2000, and Pokemon Gold was the first game I played. So many memories :’) And of course, I truly love every single Pokemon and every single generation.

    Reply
      • Thanks guys! I am new here so it took me a bit of time to view those replies lol 🙂 I will never stop loving Pokemon, and I strongly believe that the franchise will carry on until the end of time 😀 And I just don’t see Pokemon as competition and battling, but also as developing an undying friendship between you and your creature, and the growing bond inbetween when the journey advances! This is why Pokemon is one of my most favourite game franchises of all time :’)

        Reply
      • Thank you all so much! I truly appreciate all the kindness so far :’) And you guys are all true fans too, it is you guys that keep the franchise alive 🙂

    • 😀 Heya! And I’m getting both too! Get both doses of adventure (plus, I can’t decide between legnedaries, want both fossils, Spritzee, and so much more). I also happen to like most of the designs (some more than others….) and I know I will love the ones I will find in these games. I played Yellow around 3rd gen (my bro had them, but lost R and S…he sucks) and I’ve played ever since. And you seem like a true fan to me! 😀 I may not care for some Pokemon, but I don’t blindly hate them. I just don’t like them as much and I avoid using them (and some I used and turned out to really good and become one of my favs 😀 Like the Zubat line) And every single generation brought something that I can’t bear to hate any.

  28. You know how Geomancy and Oblivion Wing were announced as Fairy and Dark-type respectfully, now classified as ???-type moves, do you think that dual-type moves are a thing now? Just look at Geomancy, it’s sparkly and erupting from the ground around Xerneas. Oblivion Wing looks sinister as Yveltal shoots it after flying to the skies.

Could they be typed for STAB, but actually do Ground-type (Geomancy) and Flying-Type (Oblivion Wing) damage? I have a strong Feelinara about this, and it ain’t no joke, I think this is going to happen.

  29. Worst moment when playing pokemon mine was when I finally beat Whitney in SS but I didn’t save and I had to start the whole gym over again ( this is the reason why I save after every gym battle )

    Reply
        • Well I’ve been thinking that Oblivion Wing, the signature move for Yveltal, could be Dark or Flying. It may change based on what it’s fighting, maybe dealing Dark damage on what it is super effective on, or dealing flying damage what it is super effective on, not factoring in the other damage type. This would maybe mean that a Fairy/Ground Geomancy might ignore the Flying Immunity against Yveltal and strike it’s Dark type with the fairy aspect instead. Or, I could be COMPLETELY off.

          Reply
    • Whatever they do they better not make it possible to have dual STAB 8x super effective.

Edit: for example ludicolo uses grass water move on golem.

Fennekin used to be my favorite, but I didn’t expect it to turn out the way it did when it evolved. It’s good GF threw us a curve-ball, but I was kinda hoping for a fast, four-legged magical fox. Froakie was actually my least favorite at the beginning, but after awhile I started realizing how cool he is. It makes sense that I like him because I really like fast, acrobatic pokemon. But I still like all the Kalos starters, even if in a weird way, I hope GF/Nintendo don’t reveal the final stage evolutions so we can discover them for ourselves…
