Pokémon Smash! — August 25, FINISHED! [UPD]

Pokémon Smash!

Pokémon Smash will be airing soon in Japan. This week we’re not expecting a huge amount of information, despite the episode being a WCS and Mega Evolutions special. As such, this episode will not be covered live. Instead we will provide an episode write-up after the episode has finished airing.

Our stream can be found below, as well as the PokéJungle Chat. Please remember to Like us on Facebook and Follow us on Twitter, and for even more Pokémon related goodness don’t forget about our very own forums too!

Please note: if you can hear a constant popping/clicking noise, please open the Chat spoiler and click the small speaker in the bottom left.

Episode Write-Up

  • The episode begun with it’s usual anime episode re-airing
  • Smash crew ran a section focusing on the WCS in Vancouver. Some of the crew got to visit the championships and talk to some of the fans attending, and even challenge them!
  • Next the hosts moved on to an X & Y section, including a game which required them to guess what was in a selection of boxes, without being able to see what they were feeling
  • As expected Mega Evolutions were shown, with a little new footage showcased feature Mega Ampharos
  • Back to the WCS, this time with a focus on the video game champion contenders
  • A quick look at Sylveon (they even talk about the Pokémon in English!)
  • The credits run with footage from the Pokémon Game Show running, featuring hosts taking part in various battles using X & Y

The preview for next weeks episode didn’t preview anything of interest, as such we will only provide a stream again next week.

    • Well think about Wally from RSE. He borrowed Norman’s Zigzagoon so he could catch his own pokemon. There are also trainers who are given pokemon by siblings or parents. And then there are the trainers who inherit their parents’ pokemon.

    • I missed it as well. From the video, it seems Noivern is fast. Pangoro is slow. and idk but Topsy-Turvy seems like a really overpowered move…

      • Topsy-Turvy does seem incredibly useful and powerful, but I think it will be a good way to balance intimidate and sweepers setting up.

It seems like we are getting a couple stat changing moves, like Pancham’s Parting Remark, and Topsy-Turvy, so maybe they will be adding enough additions to keep it balanced.

      • To be fair, the word “gorogoro” associated with Pandas in Japan pretty much either translates as “rolling around” or “being lazy”. I guess I’ve heard it a fair few times on Shirokuma Cafe to think of it as anything but laziness.

  1. I’m kinda hoping for a reveal of Pokemon #666… I hope it’s a Fairy/Dark or Fairy/Ghost type. Like a deceptive personality, but a cute pokemon (I know Mawile is the Deceiver Pokemon, don’t start. That’s not what I mean.)

    • Considering Froakie’s final evo will probably be #658 I would presume it will end up being one of the early pokemon, maybe even Fletchling, Bunnelby or the Scatterbug lines.

    • It’s not going to be anything interesting. 666 has NO meaning to the Japanese, and something like 444 would have much more significant. (It’s Gabite). Basically, it’s unlikely that something that means nothing to Japanese people is going to play any role in numbering pokemon.

  2. I’m really sorry if this is spam, but it is also really important-
S.O.P.A. is back! It would be a felon to stream copywritten material and you could go to jail! Sites like YouTube would be one of the most affected. Your favorite Lets Player/walkthrougher or even you could be imprisoned (if you make reviews, unboxings, walkthroughs, LP’s, covers of songs, etc.) If you don’t, you could still be considered an accomplice! I believe even PokeJungle could be affected! Please spread the word on Facebook, Twitter, etc.
And most importantly sign this petition (if you can)!

  3. ok so while we wait for this weekend in Washington for “news” ill ask this question…….what kind of pokemon(animal and type or pokemon and type)would you like to see in X and Y……for me its a Dolphin Water

    Reply
    • Dolphin water and wolf or werewolf (either dark or ice/dark, I didn’t forget about mightyena, I just don’t like its move set) and a vampire (dark/something else)

      Reply
        • Something like a Redcap may work better for a dark/fairy, seeing as it’s a proper mythological fairy (That murders passers-by), and some kind of black dog myth (cu sith, barghest, black shuck, whatever) would also be a good dark/fairy.

A vampire would probably be straight-up dark or dark/flying.

          Reply
      • I think the Werewolf and and more so the vampire should be Ghost instead of dark because they’re undead creatures well the vampire is.

        Reply
      • I think the chances of a vampire pokemon are slim. If anything it would be a bat pokemon, but they likely won’t add another one this generation. Though, I would be up for a vampire squid, but then we have Malimar. The werewolf motif seems like it has been covered by Zoroark. We can still hold out for an ice wolf though!

    • For me:

      Water/Psychic Dolphin

      Ghost/Flying Vampire/bat

      Ice Wolf

      Fairy/Flying Pegasus

      Fairy/Flying Griffin

      Fairy/Dragon

      Water/Dark that’s either a Craken or Leviathan

      • You mean like Moltres and Ho-Oh? One is a western phoenix, one is an eastern phoenix (Chinese Fenghuang, pronounced “Ho-o” in Japan).

  4. Do you guys think the new way of transferring your Pokémon could help get all starters easier. Meaning you can start the game with on starter, play with it for a while until you get to where you can transfer, then restart your game until you have all starters?

  5. Moving, is there gonna be a post talking fully about Pokemon :The Origins Anime and what you or everyone else on Pokejungle think about and what you hope to see?

  6. I really don’t why, but I really want a Mega Arbok and Mega Weezing. Imagine, if Arbok and Weezing returned in the anime and got Mega forms. They would finally be able to kick the crap out of Ash and his friends!

  7. Who else almost fell over when they heard the old R/B sound effect of Psybeam in that demo video when Fennekin used it? Game Freak, you’re awesome for that throwback!

  8. Watch Helioptile from 6 Min:

It seems that just as we have critical hits in the game to increase offense, we now have a chance to survive a hit with 1 HP, to increase stall. That seems so logical. I just hope the chances are the same as critical hits. I really like the idea. It is definitely connected to pokemon amie just like critical hits.

    Reply
    • i kind of dont like that ideo because we already have focus band/sash and sturdy for that. Although if its only through amie and dosent work in wifi battles ill be ok with it.

      Reply
      • I like stall but if someone lucks out and crits…its over. But those that go offense have no draw backs. +6 dragon dance…then its game over. I find it unfair that offense has no drawbacks, and they have a chance at critical hit. Honesty I would rather have neither crit nor surviving with one hp, but gamefreak has never removed crits since gen 1, it only seems fair to add a chance to survive.

    • It appears it’s something related to friendship and Pokémon-Amie and stuff. The more you battle together, the stronger your bond will become, AND THEN YOUR POKÉMON CAN SURVIVE HITS WITHOUT STURDY OR A FOCUS SASH/BAND!
      (I like it)
