9/13 Experto News (UPD4)

It is rather hard to keep Experto news updated properly since people don’t check for updates if it isn’t the first article on my front page ._.;  Since it is now Monday I get to start a new one anyways though :]

ps- Am I the only one confused as to whether the fish is in the lamprey line by the way he updated his twitter?  I would think a fish would NOT get a pure ‘Electric’ typing either…

  1. So I heard there was 4 completely unknown pokemon left. Are these three pokemon part of those 4? I haven’t heard of these at all yet…

  2. I feel like drawing my own fanart of the lamprey pokemon.
I’ll upload it tomorrow when i finish the drawing.

  3. It is confusing. Not sure if the fish is with the lamprey line but he clearly says they’re all electric.

But why Lamprey?! UGH! They make my skin crawl!

    Reply
  4. Man, you guys freaking out about them are ridiculous. They’re just cool little fish with really, really awesome mouths. I’ve always wanted a lamprey-like poke, and making it electric is a cool idea – I figure it might suck electricity instead of blood, and live on land since it isn’t water type.

  5. These are fake..I think. I said the starter evos were fake but now look! Lamprey eeeewwww………………..
    How do u like these?

  6. why is it that water electric tend to be fish that are either from deep or vampiric, hm, but i bet that the lamprey will learn absorb, mega drain and giga drain like the kabuto line, please not let the art be X RATED like the admins have suggesting *looks at ozy and pj, give them da julia bishop DEATH STARE and tells them that japanese yugioh cards have more suggestive card art*
ps. julia bishop is the shadow vice leader of the aussie party, known for her death stare.
pps. lampreys are also a delicacy

  7. Pokexperto said there was a Pure Electric line of 3 stages, and this is it.

So the fish belong to that line.

I supose both the fish and the ghost jellyfish are kind of jokes for the people that supose they are water.

  8. everyone is like “pure electric fish what the fck?”, even though a nonwater pokemon living in water is a realistic possibility and could have already came true with hoenn fossils.
yet when it said we get a pure flying legendary everyone went “yes a pure flying :DD” even though that would be impossible according to how they type was used in the past 4 generations.
    Twisted logic LOL

    Reply
    • Actually, it would only be impossible the way it was used LAST generation, what with Roost and all. Apparantly though some people have hacked the game to give Arceus (flying form of course) Roost and it supposedly doesn’t mess anything up…just saying.

I dont really get the appeal; The normal type made fighting neutral but granted an immunity to ghost. A pretty good trade off if you ask me.

      Reply
      • I didn’t mean technically impossible, of course that’s doable, since Conversion and Color change already.

What I mean is how it was treated when given to pokemon as a type.

I’ll try describing a bit longer about how I understand it in case anyone is interested:
-The idea behind the normal type is that the pokemon being of that type is a pokemon which doesn’t have any attributes that would make if of another type. It describes the absence of elemental features.

-A pokemon has a main type and a secodnary type (compare rhyhorns and geodudes types if you didn’t know the order has a role. While Geodudes line is Rock/Ground, Rhyhorns is the reverse, being a Ground type with Rock as the secondary type. You can look for other examples in pokedexes anywhere).

-It could be that a pokemon had a slight bit of relation to a single type but not enough to make it a full “elemental” pokemon. For example Bibarel who is not a full water pokemon but Normal/Water. They could have made it become a full Water pokemon upon evolution, since we saw that happening before, but they purposely kept it’s main type Normal.

-On the other hand, by this logic, the reverse is not possible (ie Water/Normal), since if a pokemon is mainly elemental its the contrary to what the Normal type is supposed to be, therefore it can’t be slightly Normal typed next to being a full other type already.

-As we know, the Flying type has never been used on it’s own. But if you understand what I said till now, you can see another fact about it. It’s also never been used as the main type of a Pokemon.

The closest to a pure flying would be Normal/Flying, which there has already been plenty of Pokemon of. But if all those were basically not of any elemental type and just slightly Flying, this implies to me that Flying is an exclusively secondary type. Some of the existing Flying Pokemon are also airborne the whole time, or for example Swablu whos wings are clouds, then how is a pure flying pokemon going to be a better candidate for it, if all those past ones were intentionally created as mainly not being associated with any elemental type (Normal) and just secondary Flying. If the creators didn’t decide it to be unable to describe a pokemon on it’s own, they would have made lots of pure flying pokemon till now.

I don’t know how to explain it clearer than that if it doesn’t make sense to someone.

        Reply
          • that’s why I’m wondering if the pure flying legendary is misinformation.

There was also mention of a djinn on clouds trio, which would be
            electric/flying, flying, ground/flying

Though I don’t know if this came from the same person that gave us the info about the flying legendary. If it did, then I’m sure something is wrong there, because that’s clearly not a trio just from the types already totally wrong.

          • It possible. When D/P was coming out, we were told that Chatot was “the first pure flying type” ever. Well, eventually we found out that it wasn’t. >.<

Honestly, I could see Water/Flying to complete the trio. Water/Electric/Ground make an almost perfect circle.

        • Oh, you were talking more conceptual than technical? That’ll make this more interesting!

The normal/flying has merely been a convention that has stuck around, but not necessarily the only option for an nonnelemental bird. A hummingbird, for instance, would make sense as a pure flying; it rarely stops flying at all. For this type of ‘mon, flying wouldn’t be a secondary attribute but a primary one. A cloud pokemon, more air than water, could also be Flying/Water type. Just because it HASN’T been done doesn’t mean it CAN’T. There are some concepts that may make heavier use of Flying than any other type

          Reply
          • And in regards to the Trio’s typings, I don’t know. I mean, Pokexperto has been off on typings before (and if I recall correctly, has been off already this gen) but Serebii also confirmed it as pure flying.

          • Flying type is the most odd concept of all of them, and hard to compare.
A hummingbird or a djinn on a cloud don’t feel like pure flying to me x_x

Is it really the amount of time that it “utilises the type” that matters?
They could have no problem made Drifloon primary Flying, yet again they didn’t.

Legendary types; there’s another thing that bugs me there and which I find hard to believe. The fighting trio types. Following the pattern, one of them should be Rock and the other two of any types that have not been used twice (electric, fire, ice, water, steel) or the ones that have been used as secondary types or are definitely candidates for those roles (flying, dragon, bug, and fighting it seems) and of course the normal type.
Accoring to the list they’re Rock, Steel and Grass. Replace the Steel type with either Dark, Ground or Poison and it’s perfect. XD

            Well we will see soon.

          • I am simply applying your logic to the situation. Obviously a hummingbird which cannot just stop flying has a big, direct, necessary connection to flying. And I always found Drifloon’s typing odd..

As far as the trio goes, I must admit you’ve lost me. Care to elaborate your reasoning? I guess I just havent seen a real pattern in these legendaries (besides the obvious ‘beast trio’ all being fighting and ‘djinn trio’ all being flying 0.0′)

          • Whoops! Not it’s flying type, it’s ghost type. I mean, people can grab hold of it and such. I’m just used to ghost types being intangible I guess.

All will be forgiven if they are Zombie Pokemon though, I hope it’s not something silly like a Sandstorm spirit or something. :/

  10. Hiro also gave us a very detailed definition of the stage between Kibago and Ononokusu.

As far as I remember, he said it has the biggest fangs of the three of them (it looks like he could glide with it), smaller horn and longer tail than Kibago. Reddish spots of skin.

  11. why do nearly all commentators think that lampreys are CUTE, man, this site is neary as wierd as beach, who have their own GOD, plus serebii’s forums go beyond pokemon, with multiple categories and threads for stuff non pokemon such as yugioh and other manga.
here is a list of 5 wierd things i have found in pj, serebii and beach
pj: funny tags, YOU TELL EVERYONE WHAT YOU ARE DOING, no filter for comments, too much rumors and lots of links in comments.
serebii: they covered smash bros, serebii wrote in the hg/ss discovery tread he puked, lots of threads covering non pokemon, serebii got pokefactory to give him fake pokemon, the xmas tradition of having games on their site
beach: STALKERS CAN GO TO THE PICTURE THREAD, they list their favourite threads on a now defunct thread (most of them are funny), the ban game, wpm’s comments in his posts (he said that bug/steel robot was borg), they FAKED A HACKING AND GAVE CONTROL OF THE SITE TO HOLYSTAR AS PART OF APRIL FOOLS DAY

  12. Now i think they’re going on some concept:

Anteater is fire-type, ant is steel/bug *x4 weakness to fire*

Chestnut is steel/grass and x4 weakness to fire *roasted chestnuts*

This Lamprey is electric type, and most of fish is water type *lampreys bore into the flesh of other fish to suck their blood*

    Reply
    • A lamprey (sometimes also called lamprey eel) is a parasitic marine/aquatic animal with a toothed, funnel-like sucking mouth. Translated from Latin, lamprey means stone lickers (lambere: to lick, and petra: stone). While lampreys are well known for those species which bore into the flesh of other fish to suck their blood, these species make up the minority. In zoology, lampreys are often not considered to be true fish because of their distinctive morphology and physiology.

So they aren’t considered fish, which makes them not water type. They are called eels so they would most likely be electric type because of that.

  13. ..They should be water type. I mean, I love the niche my Lanturn has by being Water/Electric, and don’t want him to get replaced, but..it just makes sense! Especially in a gen that seems so lacking in water types.. I might use Miju just to get a good water type. Or the bullfrog..but I don’t like its first form; it’s like a decapitated baby’s head with a tail. I’m probably just bias towards my lovely poliwag family

One thing I noticed was..there are very few single stage pokemon, according to pokexperto. Especially when you compare it to say Kanto or Hoenn which had plenty of them

    Reply
    • yep i agree, we need some more appealing water types. atm i’m only liking the possible turtle fossil, and *maybe* hiyappu. Or if that fails, mijumaru’s looking pretty good…but there’s still a few to be released yet 🙂 have to wait and see

    • Just because the lamprey’s not a water type doesn’t mean it can’t be found in the ocean. Maybe we’ll also find flying types, flying over the water like Wingull in the 3rd gen.

      Reply
      • I could care less about the ocean pokemon. I just don’t see the rationale behind making a fish pokemon a pure-nonwater, you know?

  14. Wow! I’m really liking this! A fish pokemon that ISN’T a water type! FINALLY! I never knew why there weren’t a few fish like this before. I mean, just cause it lives in the water doesn’t mean it has to be water type. Good Gamefreak finally realize that with this and that rumored ground/electric sole I keep hearing about.

    • Well, we did find out from last Corocoro that Ononokusu was also a Dragon*as PxP said it would be previously* and with the same abilities, so yeah, if it wasn’t related at that point…

On another note, Ononokusu’s position in the dex is rather similar to Garchomp’s in DP. Not that important, but something I noticed.

It seems it’s only possible to get one of the monkeys ingame. The others must be traded.
They are a present that depends on your starter. You’ll fight one monkey and receive another. These are the combinations:

    * Choose Tsutarja -> Fight Fire Monkey -> Receive Water Monkey
    * Choose Pokabu -> Fight Water Monkey -> Receive Yannapu
    * Choose Mijumaru -> Fight Yannapu -> Receive Fire Monkey
