Amazon TCG Listing Accidentally Leaks New Pokémon

Mere hours away from the Sun & Moon demo going live, a new Pokémon has leaked on Amazon!

Spotted on the side of box art for the upcoming Sun & Moon TCG, the image was uploaded for its listing on Amazon JP. No new Pokémon are featured on the Moon boxart showcasing Lunala.

As of now, absolutely nothing is known about the new Pokémon other than its appearance. Time to get those creative juices flowing – any guesses on its typing or name?

  1. I posted this in the other thread-what I think it’s pre-evo is-but I am going to post it here as well since there is now a thread devoted to this:

“In my opinion, the color scheme is more similar to Wimpod. It could be Pyukumuku but the color scheme change is quite radical. The picture of the Pokémon also has a demure or shy appearance which I think is more in line with Wimpod in terms of personality than Pyukumuku.”

    Reply
    • It’s neither Pyukumuku or Wimpod, and it’s not associated with either one in my opinion. The color scheme, the demure, the design, they’re all too different to be associated with any pre-existing new Pokemon or evolutionary chain.

  2. Hmm, the other two Pokemon on that side of the box are Alolan Meowth and Krokorok, both Dark Types. Maybe it’s Dark Type as well?

  3. Tbh there are so many types this thing could be, for example it could be water/poison, water/steel, water/dark, water/grass(doubtful) or even as random as poison/fairy (wouldn’t be the first pokemon to live in the sea thats not a water type)

      • Fair, btw whats your thoughts on this pokemon? if real which it seems it might be would you use it on your diva team? I feel like I will deff use it

        Reply
        • It’s definitely real, it’s on a certified product.

Seeing as I’m not too bothered with type overlap I might use it if it has good stats or a good evo, but I think it’ll probably be one of the rotating Pokémon not classified as a diva.

  5. I love the design for this Pokemon, its super cute! when seeing it it looked like it could be water/poison but could also see other possibilities for it like fairy/poison too, whatever its typing is I can’t wait to learn more about this one something about it draws me in xD

  6. This Pokémon is why I still have two empty slots in my first team-I am holding out for these gems that haven’t been revealed yet.

  7. Watch this be the next Trevenant/Ribombee with its name not being revealed until the games come out (barring possible data mining).

  8. – “In Hawaii it is known as “kaupali” which translates as “cliff-clinging”. It is found on wave-swept intertidal shores in the Indo-West Pacific, particularly on the shores of Hawaii.”
    – Also known as the, “Rock Urchin” or “Helmet Urchin”
    – Are venomous and a delicacy in Hawaii

I guess another Pokemon for Mallow to feed on… xD

  9. Probably water/emo. And stretching a bit(a lot) more, it could even be the evo of that black weird thing with red thorns. The design is great regardless.

  10. I’m exited to see more of this Pokémon! Im loving it’s color scheme. I agree with everyone who has said that it reminds them of Mawile.

  11. So i first saw it and thought it was a cactus so i was like “oh either grass/poison or grass/dark” but now i see it is underwater so i guess it is based on a sea urchin so probably wont be grass but based on design it seems to incorporate either dark or poison

  12. I like it, will need to see more of it before I make any decisions like if I’ll use it. Here’s hoping it’s not another Maractus…
Also I may leave for a day or so soon, I want to play the Demo in peace when it’s available.

  13. Off topic, but does anyone else wants foot prints to return as a pokedex feature? I actually liked looking at them and seeing how they matched up and whatnot.

    Reply
    • Eh, more data than they’re worth.
Assume they’re all 16×16 monochrome images and they’re stored as 1bpp bitmaps, that’s ~23072 bytes before Alolan pokemon, which is 22.5 KB. Ok, it’s not massive, but still, it’s a lot. You’d probably be better off looking at their feet.

      Reply
        • Tbh it’s more the time than the memory.
          They’d have to:
-make a spot in the pokedex
          -make all 720+ footprint images
          -write code to load/draw them
-test them to make sure they won’t break

And then they’d get forgotten about in the storm of all the other features.

Tbh I’d rather they get time localisation done right, fed up with getting confused by American date formats.

  14. Amazon “accidentally” leaks new Pokemon. I mean, they could’ve shown the side without the new Pokemon *assuming both sides are not the same* and gotten away. But they HAD to show us the box in that angle. I SEE YOU AMAZON, AND I LOVE YOU!

  15. I see a crown on its head – could it possibly also have the Queenly Majesty ability?
It would be interesting to see this pokemon and Tsareena having a rivalry – Tsareena and her Bounsweet – and this pokemon with its preevo (assuming it has one). If they had a rivalry tho, this pokemon would obviously have a disadvantage typewise (assuming it’s water type), meaning that this pokemon should have a dual typing – maybe water/poison bc it’s an urchin.

    Reply
    • That would be cool: Queen of the Land VS Queen of the Sea: one is seen as a majestic beauty another as the “Elphaba” or “Red Queen” equivalent, but deep inside all it wanted was love.

  16. The only way I can see this being related to Pyukumuku is if there’s a stage in between. It’s drastic, and all they really have in common is spikes, but I could see it if there’s a middle man, er… middle ‘mon.

    Reply
    • The feet like structure on it actually remind me of the Innards out animation Pyukumuku does when it faints. Similar in shape and size, just a different color. Maybe in an evolution the body grows and opens up?

      Reply
    • Pyukumuku has those white innards, which would probably be part of the evolution’s design if it does have one. The Pokémon depicted here doesn’t have a trace of white to it. So yeah, there’s either a middle form or this has no relation. This doesn’t even look like a third form.

  18. @Pharap Does the size of the demo mean anything to you in regards of data mining? In other words, do you think the demo may be too small to leak everything? I’m asking you because you seem to know a lot about this stuff.

    Reply
    • Not him , but the size really means nothing as far as info can go. Most of the info will likely be text and that takes up very little space. The only things that could take up a lot of space would be models and textures. So we could still get a ton of info. Just not full models and what not. there may be some, but will likely not be all of the Pokemon.

      Reply
      • That’s kinda what I figuered. I’m just reaching for some reassurance at this point. I just have to have a little faith in GF.

        Reply
    • It’s hard to tell, it depends on their data format and how much of the size of the actual game is the game engine.

After seeing gameplay from the demo I’m hoping most of the data is just textures and models because the world certainly is huge, but if they could fit the game engine and the pokedex into 250MB for ORAS, it’s completely plausible that the demo holds the full pokedex.

That said, it’s still possible that they zeroed out the pokedex entries and just kept the data in as zeroes to A) not draw suspicion and B) not have to worry about writing a compression thing just for the sake of a demo. (Side note: I’m also assming the 3DS file system doesn’t have a concept of sparse files.)

      So ultimately it’s anyone’s guess.
The fact it looks like they’ve got the whole of melemele in the demo (in code, if not accessible) looks promicing though.

      Reply
        • Promising as in it looks like most of the data is going to be map/world and engine code/event scripting. I could be wrong though, there are so many different techniques they could be using. If I had experience hacking ORAS or XY or I could find a datasheet detailing how the modern games store their data I could make a better guess.

Sadly Bulbapedia only says stuff about the structure of savegame data, it doesn’t say how the ROM data is structured.

          Reply
          • I might actually have a peek at the files myself once the demo has been downloaded.

I bet they’re still using some lame “xor with output from a linear congruential generator” method for encryption 😛
Maybe they’ve actually upgraded to a mersenne twister this time.

  19. I know its weird, but it could actually be an evo of pyukumuku. Look at the format of her purple thingy feet. It looks like pyukumuku innards. He could open and turn into this

  20. Yeah it’s cool. . But another Pokemom I won’t use. I like a lot of Pokemon just not much interest in using them :/ guess I’m a stats kind of guy this gen

  21. I posted this a few months back, but I want to get new opinions from people who may not have been around then. What do you think the starters’ final evolutions’ names are? I’ve come up with:
Rowlet 3 – Archoot (Archer + hoot. It also sounds like shoot)
Litten 3 – Litigre (Lit + libre + misspelling of tiger)
Popplio 3 – Marmeid (Mar, meaning ocean + misspelling of mermaid)

    Reply
    • Something entirely unexpected.
Everyone at this point says Robinhoot, Beltigre, and Sirene or something similar, but I’m predicting something clever and unexpected.

      Reply
    • I think it’s false for fact of Rowlet… It starts a proper little owl with a bow tie and is tan
Dartrix is dark brown with a wilted bowtie and love it’s hair
(What I say is False Evo) Retrogresses back to tan, loses his beloved hair for a good, and loses its bowtie

Now when I think about it that sounds to much erratic change between Evos to make any sense

      • Okay? Froakie looses its bubbles for a tounge scarf, quiladin goes from green and brown to primarily white, and dewott turns into samurott so enough said on that one

  22. I think stumbling upon a legendary on your own is such an amazing feeling. Finding Virizion in Black version was so amazing for me. When unspoiled, finding legendaries are really… well, legendary

    Reply
    • Lucky. I’ve never been unspoiled, and I’ve always wanted to. If things leak tomorrow, it’ll be exponentially difficult for me to stay unspoiled. If things miraculously don’t leak tomorrow, then I’m leaving 2 weeks in advance of the release, which will be much much more doable.

  23. Alright, it’s time to arrange this. Suppose things go south tomorrow and tons of stuff gets leaked. I want to know a few things, so I’ve prepared a few questions to PM somebody who’s going to look at the leaks on the forums. Is anybody active on the forums and planning on throughly looking at the leaks that wouldn’t mind me asking them a few questions? Thanks!

  27. I think I’ve decided that I’m going to view the leaks if they happen. I’ll look at the Pokemon, but I’ll be refraining from spoilers of any other variety.

        • As do I, my willpower is super low. I’m doing my best, but I’m feeling mental degeneration and no leaks have even happened yet!

          Reply
          • Hopefully not. I’m making a genuine effort, but we’ll see how things go. Definitely leaving if the game gets release early like XY did, and leaving 2 weeks early regardless. It’s so hard though, Pokemon is my hobby, and I have to nearly give it up for a month.

          • I managed to go blind for PSMD, and in retrospect I wish I hadn’t. It’s not main series, but still important in my eyes.

      • This is somewhat of an experiment for me, since I’ve never played any Pokemon game (or game for that matter) relatively blind before.

        Reply
          • I’ve went in completely blind with Diamond, and it’s an experience I at least recommend doing once.
I could never go completely blind, or even slightly blind, ever again, but I appreciated it when I did.

    6. Noctowl

    • Based on the established consensus amongst the people of our jurisdiction, we have finalized it to be too much of an outlier and drastic change for this yet to be revealed Pokemon to be apart of the Pyukumuku evolutionary chain. I thank you for your input.

  33. Pokémon Memories:

    Gen 1:

Got it for my birthday. So young that I don’t remember too much of it. Though I remember loving Bulbasaur. But eventually became a bigger fan of Charizard.

I remember a kid at school at caught Mewtwo and it blew my mind cause I didn’t even know that was possible.

I borrow my cousin’s Zapdos to beat the Elite 4 and my little brother started playing my game and reset my Red version with my cousin’s Zapdos on it still.

Replaying it in high school when I found out about the glitch to catch Mew and did it.

    Gen 2:

I remember my older cousins telling me new Pokémon games titled Gold and Silver were coming. I was so use to people lying about new Pokémon games at this point I didn’t even believe them.

I still remember when my Cyndaquil first evolved.

I beat Silver version with essentially nothing but my Typhlosion.

My cousin and I thought eggs hatched on a timer not by counting your in-game steps so we wasted a whole day leaving our GameBoys on without playing them.

    Gen 3:

I spent countless hours playing the third generation. I got so close to completing the PokéDex.

My cousin pre-ordered Pokémon Colosseum and got a disc that let us put a Jirachi on our GameBoy games. I played Emerald version without a starter Pokémon and replaced it with Jirachi.

Pokémon Fire Red was nostalgia fueled heaven.

    Gen 4:

Got back into Pokémon while playing my little brother’S Diamond version. I bought myself a DSi and Platinum version.

Continued to inch closer towards finishing the PokéDex.

I barely even remember playing Soul Silver, but I remember when the games were first announced and how insanely excited I was.

    Gen 5:

Convinced most of my friends to buy one of the new games.

Two of my best friends and I binge played them during the drive all the way down to Florida on spring break our junior year of high school.

This was by far my favorite generation. The Pokémon and Unova region felt like home. (Ironically enough, it’s based on home.)

Lost my White version with half of my Pokémon for my PokéDex on it…

    Gen 6:

I remember being at a weekend long YuGiOh tournament when X and Y came out. Everyone there was so hyped for the new games. I bought X version off of Derek Willis (of UK basketball fame) for $45, dropped out of the tournament, and played Pokémon the rest of the weekend.

Alpha Sapphire was a warm walk down memory lane. And being able to actually catch Deoxys was so exciting!

    FINALLY COMPLETED THE POKÉDEX!

There were times, sometimes years, that my infatuation for Pokémon dulled, but I the reality is there is no other video game (or anything else from any other media) that truly provides me with a sense of escapism. I love the world of Pokémon and will continue to come back to it for as long as they make new games.

    • Yes. It has battle bond in order to trigger its transformation. So the trade off is that it really doesn’t have an ability once it transforms in exchange for a boost in stats(assumed at this point. Battle bond’s effect’s are still being reported).

        • Probably. Given that, and I don’t really consider this much of a spoiler but will still state that it is one.

Spoiler: Water Shuriken is now a special move instead of physical, and Ash-greninja naturally boots its base power, meaning that its a stab, multi-hit priority attack. That is the thing of nightmares.

Also sorry taht I don’t quite know how to spoiler tag comments yet, though I figured a mechanical change isn’t much of a spoiler.
