Scans are surfacing of the latest CoroCoro issue and it’s a doozy! Mega Evolutions of Sceptile, Swampert, and Diancie have all been revealed along with other misc information 🙂
Details
Pokémon
- Mega Sceptile is Grass/Dragon with the ability Lightning Rod
- Mega Swampert’s ability is Swift Swim
- Mega Diancie’s ability has yet to be revealed
- Groudon and Kyogre’s new forms can be translated to either Primeval or Prehistoric. These forms appear to come from “nature’s energy”.
- The subtext for Groudon and Kyogre suggests new moves.
Characters
- New character art for Brendan and May
- Steven returns and is researching Mega Evolution
- Archie and Maxie are still leading Team Aqua and Team Magma respectively. Their Admins also return. All have received redesigned character art.
- Players will still have access to the Acro and Mach bikes (whoo! mach4life)
- Brendan and May will use the new ‘Mega Bangle‘ that will be used for Mega Evolutions in battle

Ah, so beautiful. Sceptile and Swampert’s Megas look very nicely designed. Good chance Sceptile gets a second typing based on how the design looks. Maybe Get TV will provide us with that. Swampert definitely getting some Def boosts 😀
As for the characters, Brendan and May have a nice light modernization, as well as Team Magma and Aqua. This is really looking like it’s going to be one amazing remake.

Kyogre and Groudon are Prehistoric regressions. Genshi means prehistoric and atom in japanese, in this case it’s clear that it means prehistoric, unless atom carries some prehistoric connotation, which I researched and found was minimum at best.
What could have caused this? Perhaps the orbs that were created for them in ANCIENT times? Detective Chico 1 – Life 0
the most i can relate atom to is Indivisible, Tiny, or (im doubtful about this…) Potential. Nothing relating to prehistoric, unless you want to count the fact that atoms are really really old…

Atomic Groudon and Kyogre may be a reference to the Atomic Age or Atomic Era. This age FOLLOWS the detonation of the first atomic bomb, Trinity during World War 2. Dramatic story for the game. 😀
And maybe Aqua and Magma use some kind of Atomic Powered devices strong enough to rattle the land and oceans and they inadvertently unlock some kind of primal energies within Groudon and Kyorge fusing the volatile energies thus resulting in these forms

Mega Sceptile’s design is soooo good. BUT WHY ;~; Pokemon like Aegislash and Whimiscott and more are gonna wall it so hard, Grass/Dragon gives it a 4x weakness to priority Ice Shard, Lightning Rod is useless in Singles, and it’s still Special based by the looks of it D:<

1. Add more type variety
2. At LEAST increase its physical attack and it’ll be a mixed sweeper. Leaf Blade, Drain Punch, Dragon Claw. Crunch. X-Scissor. Iron Tail are already some of the cool moves it can get.

Normal Groudon and Kyogre are “evolved” forms of Atom Groudon and Kyogre. As time went on, Groudon and Kyogre began to “evolve” to suit their new environment. However, Team Magma finds out that by exploiting this “Mega” energy, they can de-evolve Groudon and Kyogre to their Original Form. Team Aqua finds this absurd and wants to obtain Groudon and Kyogre for something else and not allow them to de-evolve. FUTURE VS PAST begins and it’s your job to see to it that neither team accomplish their mission.

Anyone else think that Swift Swim + the Bulk it’ll get from Mega evolving, M.Swampert is gonna be a real threat?
Absolutely, I was just about to comment on that. Assuming from artwork, it gains bulk but looses speed. Then swift swim kicks in on a rain team and you’re got a real problem on your hands.

It’ll be a terror. At worse, either Swampertite will be banned to uber, or Drizzleswim will be complex banned again. (From Smogon OU)
It has the potential to be an absolute monster. Already has base 100 HP, base 90 Def and SpDef. Assuming that it will lose some Speed from base 60 to either 40, 45, or 50, it’ll get massive Def and SpDef boosts and probably a small Atk boost. Couple that with Rain Dance to make Swift Swim… just my goodness.

I think all mega evos tend to be over designed. They literally just added new spikes to most of them- Aerodactyl, Lucario, Garchomp, etc. For Sceptile they just added sharper lines and more pods on his back. I just don’t like the direction mega evolution is taking the series in.

I just completely ignore mega evolution. I still hate all of the X/Y mega evos. It’s just such a cheap, tasteless gimmick.

I love what they have done with Team Aqua and Magma (Aqua a little bit more though)! They look soooo much more like pirates with these designs, Magma seem a lot more scientific which is interesting.
The megas are great!! Mega Sceptile is amazing and ohhh that Dragon Typing!. Mega Swampert is probably the worst design out of the 3 but nothing will stop me using my mudkip <3 and it still looks great in the grand scheme of things. Looks like it will have increased attack and bulk for sure.
A little confused as to why Mega Charizard X is being showcased as Steven's mega as i thought it would be at least Mega Aggron if not Mega Metagross (pending reveal if it exists)…. i suppose he could have access to more than one. His research could be to do with why you can only have one mega ina team and he may be able to bypass that restriction by the end of the game???
May and Brendan look great…interesting that they redesigns look similar to their emerald outfits rather than their RS outfits. Looks like they will be taking elements from Emerald so yay for Battle Frontier :DD (although i never doubted it).
I wonder if Mega Diancie will be in the new movie? It looks interesting but we don't know much about it yet so cant say much really.
I like the idea of this Reverse evolution for Kyogre and Groudon. The whole Primal/Ancient thing reminds me of Primal Dialga and that thing was BOSS so im psyched for these. It makes sense too since these would be the forms that would have originally crafted the sea and land so in order to alter land and sea they would need to revert to these forms.
Lastly, ACRO AND MACH BIKES!!! :DDDD I wonder if the rollerskates will return..I HOPE SO!

Same but base 60 speed with swift swim is very underwhelming and I doubt it’s gonna get a speed boost If it looks like that
480 top speed at lv100 is more than enough.
It’s faster than Mega Alakazam without losing bulk.
It’s also faster than Scarfdevoir (particularly good for Doubles matchups).
And besides, Rock Polish Aggron and Regirock are beasts in singles. I expect no less from Swampert..

Okay for some reason people seem to be having a bit of confusion as to what these are. They are REMAKES… NOT SEQUELS!!
1) They will follow the same storyline as R/S but will most likely have new storyline built in to the original storyline.
2) They feature the same characters but with updated designs.
3) They will include mostly all of the original features but they will be enhanced and new features will be included.
4) The story takes place in the Hoenn region and will have the same geographical layout but will most likely feature newly added in areas that were not in R/S- this does not make them sequels!! HGSS had new areas yet they were not sequels to G/S, same for FRLG (ahem the sevii islands) both were FULL REMAKES with ENHANCED FEATURED!
5) The Battle Frontier WILL be in the game!! To say otherwise is just silly! It was introduced in Emerald and has been used in Sinnoh and even added to HGSS DESPITE Johto previously only having a Battle Tower…. does that remind anyone of Ruby and Sapphire?? So yeah…the Battle Frontier will of course be in the game, why would it not?
I think people are getting confused about the term FULL REMAKE, this does not mean everything will be remade exactly the same…remake means to update and enhance… therefore a better term for these would be ENHANCED VERSIONS…which is how you would describe both FRLG and HGSS. They are both enhanced remakes of their original titles.

Until now Groudon and Kyogre were also on their forms, right? Who knows
I love both of the new Mega’s design-wise, their everything I wanted them to be. But I fear they did not get the abilities they required to outshine their standard counterparts. Swampert… maybe? Seeing that powerhouse with an immense amount of speed would be very satisfying. He still requires a rain based team, and his stat boosts would have to powerful enough to compensate for the loss of choice band, but still he could turn out fantastic. Sceptile… is screwed unless he gets an enormous boost to sp atk and a decent one to speed. Its truly a shame, my favorite starter ends up being the exact mega I wanted (even with Grass/Dragon’s six weaknesses and no priority moves) but gets burdened with Lightning Rod one of the most useless abilities any mega could ever have. D:

The Kyogre/Groudon forms are devolutions. As in, those were the forms back in prehistoric times and have obviously mutated after thousands/millions of years. When they mega evolve, they turn back into these new forms. From my understanding.

Megas can stay as long as they are not given to pokemon that still have the potential to evolve and are instead given real evos.
I do like how it gives pokemon with full evolution chains a chance, but pokemon like absol and mawile needed actual ones.
That’s my biggest problem with it – that GF might get lazy and just give Pokemon mega evos from now on, instead of creating actual evos.

Me, I despise them and I think they are a stupid idea, bai
I don’t like them in concept, but it’s the only way for Pokemon that have already reached their third stage to reach a “fourth stage”. Otherwise it’s a complete waste.
I hate megas. And I’m okay with formes because formes were (mostly) kept for legendaries, and never interfered with the creative process of actual evolutions for pokemon that needed it; I fear megas will do that.
But that doesn’t mean that a Pokemon can no longer actually evolve. There are pokemon that have megas that could possibly still evolve. There are also pokemon that are fully evolved with megas.
We might have to wait until the 7th gen to see whether old pokemon will actually get new evos anymore, or just megas. In the meantime watch GF spew megas all over Hoenn…

With base 60 speed under rain it’s pretty underwhelming and if it gets lowered to let’s say 50 speed, it’s even worse. It will always be a bulky attacker but giving him swift swim was a TERRIBLE mistake game freak could have made, I have no way of seeing getting ANY faster

I’m probably going to have the unpopular opnion but idgaf since I’m not a follower. Mega sceptile looks amazing but it’s ability is dumb and very random! IMO. It should had got tough claws. Mega swampert looks disproportional and way to muscular plus I think it ability isn’t good as well. Swampert is slow as dirt and I feel like when it mega evolves it loses speed and gains bulk. I think it should had got regenerator or sheer force. The new May looks more basic than the last one. Mega diancie is cool but random. The new forms for groundon and Kyogre look dope. Also what’s with the hate on blaziken? I never understand people who join the bash bandwagon just because a Pokemon is more popular the others. Seems like following crap to me. I’m just glad we got news this time and didn’t get tricked.

Man I was starting to think I was the only person who liked Mega Swampert.
While I completely agree with you, I still want my Mega Metagross, after that I honestly don’t care what else gets a mega. I’d be happy for more megas of course and there’s no doubt we’re getting more in the future, I just want my partner pokemon to mega evolve.
Now that I know Mega Sceptile will be a special attacker, I’m off to go breed a Shiny Timid one without Hidden Power Ice this time. Now it seems breeding those 4 naive ones was a waste of time xD

If you want the honest truth. I king of expected new abilities for Mega Swampert and Sceptile. Kind of like Blastoise with Mega Launcher.
I think this is on of the Pokemon games that I don’t really care for re-designing my trainer! I think Brendon looks cool! But, May is a bit to basic! Customization my come back! But if it doesn’t come back, I hope for other skin tones!
They can legit put effects like if i chose darker skin, the skin of the parents would also become darker or lighter depending on the skin tone i chose.

The only competitive viable grass type moves Sceptile could learn are Giga Drain and Solarbeam.. And without the Giga Drain TM, it couldn’t learn it at all as a Sceptile.. The Physical route is where they should’ve went with but eh, we’ll see in a few months

Great. Sceptile now has 6 weaknesses and can be one hit ko’d by anything with ice shard. Aswell as that, its ability boosts sp atk even though all of its best attacks are physical. My favourite pokemon ever will never be good competitively 🙁

This has been a VERY EARLY leak…there may be more, in the past when corocoro has leaked this early…more pages have leaked a day or two later. If not then E3 and GetTV will undoubtable have some footage. I think the leaked E3 game list the other day mentioned a trailer and gameplay footage for ORAS so i think there will be some more..and this is coming from someone who likes to be cautious with optimism 🙂

If you look closely, you can see an EXP bar. This basically confirms that the Mega does not belong to steven or that it’s a demonstration of Mega evolution.

I must confess i somehow hated Mega Evolutions when they were first announced. Now that I think about it seems a logical way to keep things fresh. We all know, they can’t or won’t announce new Pokemon unless new generation is announced. All we can get is new forms or whatever. Now that we have megaevoultions since there will be no distrubtion in the national pokedex, we expect “new evoultions” with this remakes.
I really want all the male feebas to be able to have an evolution + a mega evolution as in two seperate mega stones for female and male would be pretty good in my opinion

Take out Lucario and Dragalge and then add a fire type, an electric, and maybe a flying. Swellow, Manectric, and Blaziken, maybe? I’m assuming this would be your ORAS team?
So many ways to play around with a Substitute set on Mega Sceptile. Could run mixed, possibly Iron Tail to surprise Fairies, Hidden Power Ice or Fire (My Shiny one has Dark, so that’s not half bad either). Rock Slide is still an option especially if Attack gets buffed a bit too. Giga Drain of course to replenish Substitute health. There’s a lot to play around with. Threaten things out, Sub, and get some nice hits in xD
The only pokemon it has to watch out for are scizor and ESPICALLY Talonflame.
HP Fire or Rock Slide behind a Sub 😉 I’m definitely gonna be experimenting with different sets xD

No. There’s an EXP bar in the picture. You don’t see an opposing Pokemon’s EXP bar in any game. So it either belongs to the player or is involved in a demonstration.
Really? I only see the HP bar part, but not the EXP one. Usually it would be a line of blue.

Right next to the green bar looks like it says “EXP” I could be wrong.

It is his but there’s no reason to assume that it would be his main Pokemon. Especially considering, y’know, he’s a Steel specialist.
If he were to simulate a trainer battle with you, and teach you about Mega Evolution, why would he spoil his main Pokemon? It makes sense to use the Pokemon that’s essentially the Mega mascot now.

Brendan is damned awful. Easily the worst male trainer design. His original one/s was/were pretty damned good.

Little has changed in the design. The only way to fix what you have now specified as what makes it “easily the worst male trainer design” is time travel, meaning your expectation is unrealistic. Meaning the design was doomed to fail no matter what.

So Ancient Devolution is the new mechanic as opposed to Mega Evolution. I wonder if this was the new thing that was set to change the battle scene, and how many other Pokemon will get ancient devo’s? Dialga (primal form), maybe Bronzong? (According to its dex, In ancient times it uses to reflect like a mirror). I think the title “ancient” and going back further supports XY getting a prequel game. Ancient Devo for Zygarde? I think yes.
