How to change Zacian and Zamazenta’s forms in Pokémon GO

Although players have been able to catch the Legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta in Pokémon GO, only their “Hero of Many Battles” forms have been available in the game. Their more impressive forms, Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta, will finally debut with the Pokémon GO Fest 2025!

These two Pokémon will have the unique ability to join Max battles even though they cannot Dynamax or Gigantamax!

In-person Pokémon GO Fest events will kick off on May 29 in Osaka, Japan and the global event will take place on June 28 and 29.

How to transform Zacian and Zamazenta

There are two requirements to change your Zacian or Zamazenta’s form: the correct Charged Attack and sufficient special energy. It is similar to the mechanic used to change Kyurem’s form.

Once you change Zacian or Zamazenta’s form, that specific Pokémon will no longer need any energy to change between forms and can swap freely.

To change Hero of Many Battles Zacian into Crowned Sword Zacian, it requires:

  • Zacian having the Charged Attack Iron Head
  • 1,000 Crowned Sword Energy

The move Iron Head will become Behemoth Blade when Zacian is in its Crowned Sword form.

To change Hero of Many Battles Zamazenta into Crowned Shield Zamazenta, it requires:

  • Zamazenta having the Charged Attack Iron Head
  • 1,000 Crowned Shield Energy

The move Iron Head will become Behemoth Bash when Zamazenta is in its Crowned Shield form.

Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta cannot be be transferred to Pokémon HOME and must be reverted to their Hero of Many Battles form if you wish to transfer them.

How to get Crowned Sword Energy and Crowned Shield Energy

You may have noticed that new types of energy have been introduced: Crowned Sword Energy and Crowned Shield Energy. These can be gained by:

  • Defeating Crowned Sword Zacian to receive Crowned Sword Energy
  • Defeating Crowned Shield Zamazenta to receive Crowned Shield Energy
  • Through paid Special Research or Special Research gained through paid in-person events

The energy requirements for Kyurem’s form changing was criticized as being too high for free-to-play players, so we’ll have to see if it is similarly difficult to raid enough for Zacian and Zamazenta. This can especially impact rural players who may have to rely on remote raiding.

Let us know if you’re excited for Zacian and Zamazenta’s souped-up forms to be obtainable in GO! Personally, I love Shiny Crowned Shield Zamazenta, so I’m quite excited. Don’t forget to also join our Pokémon forums and Discord server!
