Two new events have been announced for Pokémon GO in May, including one which will include the debut of Generation IX Pokémon Kingambit! Read the details for the Growing Up and Crown Clash events below.
Growing Up event details
The Growing Up event will be taking place in GO from Friday, May 2, at 10 a.m. until Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 8 p.m. local time. During this time, the following event bonuses will be active:
- 2× XP for evolving Pokémon.
- 2× Candy from hatching Eggs.
- Increased chance to hatch Shiny Wimpod.
- Increased chance to encounter Shiny Magikarp, Shiny Swablu, and Shiny Wimpod.
- Increased chance to encounter XXS and XXL Pokémon in the wild.
There will also be:
- Chance of getting event-themed Field Research tasks available from spinning PokéStops
- An event-themed Collection Challenge
- Event-themed PokéStop Showcases
- Optional Paid Timed research
Wild Pokémon spawns
While the event is active, the following Pokémon will be spawning more frequently:
- Magikarp*
- Wailmer*
- Swablu*
- Foongus*
- Dedenne*
- Cutiefly*
- Wimpod*
- Rookidee
- Nymble*

Pokémon Eggs
During the Growing Up event, the Pokémon below can be found in the specified Egg type. Of note is the chance to hatch Mime Jr. from 5 km Eggs or Toxel from 10 km Eggs.

Crown Clash event details
The Crown Clash event will take place in GO from Saturday, May 10, at 10 a.m. until Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 8 p.m. local time. While the event is active, players can take advantage of the following bonuses:
- 2× XP for evolving Pokémon.
- Increased chance to encounter Shiny Nidoqueen wearing a crown, Shiny Nidoking wearing a crown, Shiny Slowpoke, Shiny Combee, and Shiny Litleo.
- Catching Slowpoke may award a King’s Rock.
In addition, players can participate in the following:
- Chance of getting event-themed Field Research tasks from spinning PokéStops
- An event-themed Collection Challenge
- Event-themed PokéStop Showcases

During the event, the following Pokémon will appear more frequently:
- Slowpoke*
- Slakoth*

How to evolve Bisharp into Kingambit in Pokémon GO
Evolving Bisharp into Kingambit in Pokémon GO is different than the method used in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Players must defeat 15 Dark-type or Steel-type Pokémon in Raid Battles with Bisharp as your buddy. Luckily you don’t have to defeat these Pokémon with Bisharp.
