Showdown: Villainous Teams — Round II Grunts & Admin

Showdown is back and better than ever! For those that don’t know what our Showdown series is, or need a reminder: Showdown is where we hold a series of polls on our site and ask readers to vote for their top choice until we found our champion.

Voting periods will run for one week at a time and new rounds will begin on the following dates:

Round I: Leaders — December 2nd
Round II: Grunts & Admin — December 11th
Round III: Plans — December 16th
Round IV: Overall — December 23rd
Winner Announcements — December 30th

The results for Round I: Leaders are in! We’re happy to announce that the winner of the first round of our latest Showdown is… Cyrus, Leader of Team Galactic! Cyrus ended up with only a slight 2% lead over Giovanni of Team Rocket. Full results can be found below!

Note: Ghetsis and Colress have been combined into one percentage and will be counted as such for final vote counts.

In Round II everyone will be voting on their top Grunts and/or villains of teach team. Grunts are often some of the most commonly met trainer types in our Pokémon adventures. Admins provide support to Team Leaders and can prove quite a challenge in battle. Remember you’re voting for your favourite overall choice and a vote for Team Magma counts as a vote for both Third Generation and Sixth Generation iterations, for example.

Team Rocket

Admin members: Archer, Ariana, Petrel and Proton

Team Rocket’s admin staff are classified as Executive Trainers. These trainers all do their best to stop trainers in their attempts to foil the plans of Team Rocket, with challenging battle and no limit to the execution of their plans.

Grunts of Team Rocket are often considered fairly easy opponents, with a limited set of Pokémon used on their teams they rarely pose a true threat to trainers. Rocket Grunts seemed to have their appearance based on that of a typical cartoon criminal.

Team Magma

Admin members: Courtney and Tabitha

The two Admin members of Team Magma both play large roles in assisting Maxie to achieve his plans for Team Magma and the Pokémon world. Team Magma Grunts and Admin are mostly themed around the colour red, with no other obvious influences.

Team Aqua

Admin members: Matt and Shelly

Matt and Shelly play the same roles as Courtney and Tabitha: assisting their team leader in achieving their goals. The entirety of Team Aqua has their aesthetics themed around pirates, particularly their outfits.

Team Galactic

Admin members: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Charon

Admin members of Team Galactic fall under the Commander trainer class. Each Commander of Team Galactic is named after an object within our solar system. All members of Team Galactic wear outfits that are visually like spacesuits, this results in people who unaware of the team to refer to them as spacemen.

Team Plasma

Admin members: Seven Sages, Zinzolin, Shadow Triad

Team Plasma is the only villainous group to have two groups of individuals who act as the higher members of their team. Both groups are loyal to their leader. Plasma member are themed around two distinct themes: in Black and White they appear to have had their appearance influenced by Medieval Knights, whilst in Black 2 and White 2 they have strong classical pirate influences.

Team Flare

Admin members: Aliana, Bryony, Celosia, Mable, Xerosic, Team Flare Admins

Team Flare Admins are extremely relentless in their attempts to halt the player in foiling the plans of their leader Lysandre. Each of these members are likely named in reference to classification of solar flares. All members of Team Galactic are seen as highly fashionable and well dressed.

Team Skull

Admin members: Plumeria

Plumeria is the single admin member of Team Skull and the only character with the Team Skull Admin trainer class. Team Skull is formed of members who failed the Island Challenge in the Alola region. They are the only villainous team to now have a distinct goal other than causing trouble.

  1. I am going to go crazy hunting a grilling in us. Currently soft resetting for a modest, bold of calm nature with water absorb. Keep getting bad natures with water absorb or the natures I want with cursed body.

  3. So GF is looking for a graphical designer for a “big 2019 project” I guess that means no game next year……….*loud sigh*…..why would they even bother telling us it exists if it’s not coming out until then?!?!?!?!?

    Reply
    • Why are you upset? We just have to be patient. Plus, I’d rather they spend more time refining a game then giving us an unfinished mess.

      Reply
      • Still don’t like that “more time to work on it” thing…….If it was in fact meant for next year (which it appears it isn’t….) it wouldn’t would be because it was rushed. It would have been because that’s how they planned it. Either way I guess the whole thing is moot……..

        • I mean there have been games that have taken plenty of time to make, but eventually turned out great. I should also note that sometimes things inevitably do get delayed and that’s alright as long as the final product is good. Persona 5 was delayed as well as Cuphead and those games turned out to be fantastic. And while it’s not always the case, I just hope Gamefreak takes the time to put out a nice game.

I mean it’s not like other companies haven’t announced their games years before it comes out. I suspect Pokemon is no different.

          • Actually tbh, most companies reveal their game a year or two before. Modern GF is kinda unique in announcing them so close to release.

      • Yeah, but even if it was just part of the annual recruitment they still are saying it’s for a big 2019 project. It’s that part that makes it seem like the Switch game is not out next year. If it was just a hiring listing yeah sure it could be for anything and any reason. The “big project” part is what tells us what it’s prolly for tho….

        • I guess but it could them be starting development on the Gen after (released in like 2021 to 2023) as well. And tbh even if Gen VIII, I’m kinda excited because it means they’re putting as much effort into it as they can. Gen 8 was labeled with a ‘2018 or later tagline and they may of decided to delay it a bit in response to feedback or just want to make their own adjustments too it.

    • It may come early 2019 in all honesty. If this isxactualky talking about the big switch game then I expect a new mystery dungeon game next year for switch and 3ds similar to what they did with the first game. Time will tell I suppose. Either way I expect our first trailer for the switch game at e3 next year

      • They took they’re time with Dp and it was not a great set of games……… Platinum aside you can’t deny that Dp were. It good games on their own and that was a set of games where they took a long time to make.

        Reply
          • And they’re working on a new console now. A single year won’t make the game better if the over all story just isn’t good and the pacing is bad. Yes to some degree a year can be helpful, but of they’re over all vision misses the mark then a year won’t help that. Either way it’s looking like they’re gonna take the games release into 2019 So it’s all kind of moot anyway.

  6. What do you guys think of Ryan Reynolds apparently voicing detective Pikachu in the new movie XD I don’t know if I’ll be able to take it seriously with his voice; although would I be able to take the movie seriously anyway?

    Reply
    • I actually like Ryan Reynolds. He’s a decent actor despite being in some lame movies. He’s also quite likable in general so that’s a plus.

      Reply
    • Well it’s not going to be that serious anyway. He could be using a different voice than his usual too, so really until we hear him playing the part and see how it syncs with the animation I’ll reserve judgement.

  7. Ok so with the assumption that the Pokemon Switch game is coming in 2019, when do you think it’ll launch? Normally I’d say Fall, but given how much content they have to stretch between now and then I’m. It so sure. I could see them taking this opportunity to change up their release schedule and make a spring or summer launch. I’d be down for that actually as it’s been too long since a Pokemon game was released in a season that wasn’t immediately followed by cold weather. It’d be nice to play a brand new game outside when it’s nice out.

  9. I don’t see why people think the concept of a full gap year of Pokémon is so unbelievable? Not calling anyone out because I’ve seen multiple people with the same opinion. But we had a year between bOReASs and SuMo. USUM to Switch should hopefully be an even bigger jump thus a longer time between than usual. Like, I won’t be surprised if it comes out 2018 or 19 are kinda disappointed with a 2019 release date? Most game series aren’t annual, not even Mario and Zelda are if you ignore spin offs. And the ones that are get criticism for feeling too samey, like Pokémon.

      • Most Gens had an internal year gap, or at least 4 did as well. I’m speaking about.a year gap between Gens, which Gen 5 didn’t have on either end.

        Reply
    • Eh are people not believing that? Like These year gaps tend to happen, but maybe it’s because that rumour that said that Nintendo was pushing GF to release Pkm Switch in 2018 and the fact that “Big Project” is pretty vague

    • Honestly, BOTW took a fudgeload of time and it was worth it. I’m just wondering if the Poke Switch game had a 2021 release date like most console games of such scale as BOTW do, what wonders we’d see.

  11. Who cares that Pokemon Switch might release in 2019? Having a new game every year will eventually have a negative setback for the franchise, just look at Assassins Creed before they changed that formula too.

  13. The world of Chrona, a realm where man and ‘mon live together in peace. Nature is kept in order by the Crystals, eighteen legendary gemstones that are the elements incarnate. It is believed that as long as each crystal is kept in balance, the world would flourish evermore.

But everything changes. The six kingdoms are in disarray as odd occurrences come to light. Fingers are soon pointed, and tension rises dramatically. The crystals are growing reckless, and six individuals elected as guardians of peace and prosperity now find themselves forced to protect their world from threats both from the outside and within.

  14. Few ideas that I may or may not turn into Fakemon:
Poison/Fire or Poison/Ground Radiation Elephant with spikes of minerals and lava flowing through it. Based on the ”Elephant’s Foot”in Chernobyl. Name ideas: Corriuphant (Corrium + Elephant), Corrioot (Corrium + Foot + Toot)
Grass/Rock into Ground/Rock, an evo line based on Ambers. First stage is a cutesy hardrning sap monster hanging from a small tree. The evo is a Big Angry Amber monster sitting on a pile of sand. You can evolve the mon by leveling up once in a Cave and then once on a beach.

And I’ll probably write an entry for my reworked Regional Bug soon.
