Showdown: Villainous Teams — Round II Grunts & Admin

Showdown is back and better than ever! For those that don’t know what our Showdown series is, or need a reminder: Showdown is where we hold a series of polls on our site and ask readers to vote for their top choice until we found our champion.

Voting periods will run for one week at a time and new rounds will begin on the following dates:

Round I: Leaders — December 2nd
Round II: Grunts & Admin — December 11th
Round III: Plans — December 16th
Round IV: Overall — December 23rd
Winner Announcements — December 30th

The results for Round I: Leaders are in! We’re happy to announce that the winner of the first round of our latest Showdown is… Cyrus, Leader of Team Galactic! Cyrus ended up with only a slight 2% lead over Giovanni of Team Rocket. Full results can be found below!

Note: Ghetsis and Colress have been combined into one percentage and will be counted as such for final vote counts.

In Round II everyone will be voting on their top Grunts and/or villains of teach team. Grunts are often some of the most commonly met trainer types in our Pokémon adventures. Admins provide support to Team Leaders and can prove quite a challenge in battle. Remember you’re voting for your favourite overall choice and a vote for Team Magma counts as a vote for both Third Generation and Sixth Generation iterations, for example.

Team Rocket

Admin members: Archer, Ariana, Petrel and Proton

Team Rocket’s admin staff are classified as Executive Trainers. These trainers all do their best to stop trainers in their attempts to foil the plans of Team Rocket, with challenging battle and no limit to the execution of their plans.

Grunts of Team Rocket are often considered fairly easy opponents, with a limited set of Pokémon used on their teams they rarely pose a true threat to trainers. Rocket Grunts seemed to have their appearance based on that of a typical cartoon criminal.

Team Magma

Admin members: Courtney and Tabitha

The two Admin members of Team Magma both play large roles in assisting Maxie to achieve his plans for Team Magma and the Pokémon world. Team Magma Grunts and Admin are mostly themed around the colour red, with no other obvious influences.

Team Aqua

Admin members: Matt and Shelly

Matt and Shelly play the same roles as Courtney and Tabitha: assisting their team leader in achieving their goals. The entirety of Team Aqua has their aesthetics themed around pirates, particularly their outfits.

Team Galactic

Admin members: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Charon

Admin members of Team Galactic fall under the Commander trainer class. Each Commander of Team Galactic is named after an object within our solar system. All members of Team Galactic wear outfits that are visually like spacesuits, this results in people who unaware of the team to refer to them as spacemen.

Team Plasma

Admin members: Seven Sages, Zinzolin, Shadow Triad

Team Plasma is the only villainous group to have two groups of individuals who act as the higher members of their team. Both groups are loyal to their leader. Plasma member are themed around two distinct themes: in Black and White they appear to have had their appearance influenced by Medieval Knights, whilst in Black 2 and White 2 they have strong classical pirate influences.

Team Flare

Admin members: Aliana, Bryony, Celosia, Mable, Xerosic, Team Flare Admins

Team Flare Admins are extremely relentless in their attempts to halt the player in foiling the plans of their leader Lysandre. Each of these members are likely named in reference to classification of solar flares. All members of Team Galactic are seen as highly fashionable and well dressed.

Team Skull

Admin members: Plumeria

Plumeria is the single admin member of Team Skull and the only character with the Team Skull Admin trainer class. Team Skull is formed of members who failed the Island Challenge in the Alola region. They are the only villainous team to now have a distinct goal other than causing trouble.

  2. Can’t believe this year is almost over already. I have had a lot of ups and downs this year but to be quite honest I am ready to put this year behind me because so much crap has happened. That said my vote is for team skull. They may not be the strongest but I love their characters lol same with why I voted for Guzma. That said I can’t argue with Cyrus being the best villain

    • I divided up this year into different categories. I’ll give each of them a review out of 10.

Environmentally: 1/10 (back-to-back Cat5 hurricanes, lack of snow for where I live, floods, etc..)

Politically: 0/10 (exception of France or Netherlands)

      Game-wise: 10/10

      Movie-wise: 6/10

      Personal-wise: 7/10

      • You don’t even have to have grown up with Gen 4 to realize it’s one of Gamefreak’s strongest generations, and probably always will be.

          • Even if you think it’s lame, you’d have to be brain dead to put Team Galactic anything lower than third best evil team.

          • I grew up with both the games and the anime so that’s why I feel pretty connected to Gen 4, and it’ll always automatically be either 2nd, 1st or 3rd best.

          • Gen 3 is a good gen for sure, but FRLG are less memorable and objectively not as good as HGSS, so I rank it lower.

Gen 1 and 2 are not good. Gen 2 is actually pretty horrible. Hardly did anything to truly change the games. Woooo breeding, shinies, and day and night, what innovations. Not to mention the story is weak as hell. Like if we’re saying Gen 1 is good simply because it started everything, then sure, it’s good. Maybe it’s good for the time period. But it’s not good in hindsight.

          • gen 1 and 2 are good, they are limited by their time.

You have to put yourself in the mindset of that time a little bit when playing older games.

FRLG and HGSS are still better experiences

          • I’m just saying, at least as a sequel, they didn’t do much with Gen 2…Most of the things they changed were cosmetic. Sure, breeding is very important, but that’s it. Of course, they didn’t even plan on pokemon going past that I don’t think, so I think it’s alright. Like I do like Gen 2, I think Crystal is very fun, but it’s overrated for what it brought to the table

          • ???
Gen 2 was the gen that brought the most general changes that shaked up all the games after that. Gender and breeding has become very important, the clock has been used in very great ways, they added a female player character. They gave us Dark and Steel, two very popular types, they have us hold items, they split Special into two stats, they fixed the type chart and best of all, Youngster Joey and his top percent Ratatta.

Yeah, no suprise the games aren’t as good to play as they were back then, but it’s ridiculous to say they didn’t innovate on the formula.

          • I guess that’s true. There are some pretty important changes I forgot. I will say the story and the pokedex are weak, but it’s not like pokemon games are known for having amazing stories

          • So if we combine the great stuff of Gen II with all the good additions and great Pokédex that is Gen IV, we get the GOAT HGSS. I think what’s playing in Gen IV’s favor is that the graphical art style is pretty good. It’s clean and usable, has flashing colours, as oposed to BW which was also great but felt a lot more jagged, and the 3DS that suffered from poor colour saturation (but that’s a 3DS problem).

  3. BTW everyone I don’t think net neutrality is dumb I just found it a bit dumb of them to “advertise” that message for non-Americans. Don’t worry I definitely support NN and think it’s awful they’re taking it away and they’re not being smart with it, but yeah.

  5. I think the Mushroom Kingdomians like Mario, Peach, Luigi and so on are Neanderthals and died out because they were too short and fat.

      • I think it should also touch on human form of Ganon..Also something with the triforce and the goddesses since that was 99% absent from BoTW

        Reply
        • hmmmmmm actually that could be interesting

i mean the whole idea of Calamity Ganon is that he is not fully resurrected and hit darkness, evil and malice is stewing away and leaking into the world

but what about a scenario where Ganon finished cooking and assumed a mortal form

          • I really honestly just want to see what he would look like in this art style and then an amiibo of him as well haha

  6. Don’t know why I’m battling silver Lynels….I’m bad at battling and I waste a ton of my food. Meh, at least I’ve got this 101 power Lynel crusher.

    • i pick on lynels for fun, all you really need is

      a Savage Lynel Bow
      Stasis+
      assload of arrows
      and decent stamina

basically freeze them and nail them in the face repeatably, and if you’re good with aiming it should fall to the ground every consecutive hit, and if they do get up just rinse and repeat

  7. Climax cutscenes for USUM were a little underwhelming. The pacing just felt off…everything felt rushed. Also, Ultra Necrozma is absolutely disgusting
