Translations

  • New mysterious character shown with the moustache’s name is Shionira
  • The text interspersed throughout the trailer reads “There has been a sign of darkness. This is no longer the Alola you know”
  • 0:08 – Kukui: “Yeah! It’s said that long ago when Alola was covered in darkness the people and Pokémon of Alola vanquished the darkness with light.”
  • 0:15 – Burnet talking about how rare it is to see cracks open up in the sky (Ultra Wormholes). This scene was in Sun & Moon.
  • 0:22 – Shionira: “Necrozma, the Pokemon that controls light…does it plan to steal Alola’s light?”
  • 0:58 – Guzma: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend, huh?” (literal translation: “It’s ‘keep the enemy alive, so we stay alive too, huh?”)
  • 0:59 – Gladion: “If mom dies as well…!”
  • 1:00 – Lusamine: “Get out of here…He’s…He’s a monster!!”

Don’t know about you guys, but this trailer has convinced me: Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon is going to be epic!

  1. Ok cool new things. Something crazy happens at the Pokemon league. Lusamine clearly has a slightly different roll in these games, Nanu is on MeleMele island for some reason!! I love the new dark themes they’re using for these games. I think I’ll be more happy with them than I initially thought lol

  2. So i have an idea….what if these wackos in the suits actually live in Ultra Space and they want to use Necrozma to siphon all the power from the Cosmic Duo and open up a ultra wormhole to engulf the whole region/world

  3. Wow, looks like I came at the right time. New trailer is the most hype thing about USUM yet, without a doubt. Looks a lot more story oriented, so hopefully the trailers don’t deceive like with SM.
    T-minus 1.5 months, won’t be long now.

    So

    …

I’m nervous about the amount of unskippable cutscenes

I’m nervous they spoiled too much

    BUT

I am glad that these games will be different enough from Sun and Moon

    ONLY TOOK 4 MONTHS

    • 1.a. They might be skip-able, who knows?
      b. It won’t matter if they’re good, and SM’s never really bothered me.
      2. First it’s too little then it’s too much, but I get what you’re saying.

      3. Yep, and feels pretty good.

          • Lol, it absolutely is. Yes, it has the aspect of catching and battling Pokemon, but they are most certainly story driven.

          • Go play the first 4 gens. No it isn’t

The story does not drive the player

What drives the player is the desire to battle and catch more Pokémon to beat the E4

          • Lol, I have played literally every game since they came out when I was 6 in 1998, cool it with the assumptions. There was ALWAYS a story that explained things. Gen 1&2 weren’t *as* story driven as 3 and beyond, but the drive has ALWAYS been stop the enemy team from doing (insert diabolical scheme) and the story behind why you;re doing it.

          • The enemy team is just context to the battles. Pokemon is a game about battling and catching creatures with a story tacked on

Not a story with battling and catching creatures tacked on.

When people replay Pokémon games they tend to skip all of the dialogue because they don’t care. They want to play a game not watch a movie or read a book. If they did, they would do those instead

          • Yea, and Tomb Raider is just a game about climbing mountains and finding treasures with a story tacked on, when people replay it, they skip dialogue because they don’t care. They just want to find treasures.

Keep stretching, no matter what else is said, you will do so anyways.
            Have a good one.

          • It is though

I don’t think you understand what you are even talking about. A game with a story in it isn’t a story driven game.

You’re focusing on the story part of that and not the driven part

Because what drives the player is what keeps them going and not just doing something else. If it is a game like Life is Strange or Heavy Rain or To The Moon, the reason the player is playing is to experience the story

But in Zelda and Pokémon, there is a story there but the core gameplay is the reason they are playing. If you wanted an RPG with a story driving you, play final fantasy.

Why play final fantasy over pokemon? Because it has a story. Why play pokemon? Because you can catch and train pokemon. That is why you’re playing. And you keep playing to make Pokémon stronger so you can defeat trainers.

If people only cared about the story, why make new Pokémon or items or abilities or anything. Just make a new half baked story

        • Eh, I liked the cutscenes. To each their own.
That’s a very fine line to hit in fairness. Who knows, maybe they showed this instead of new Pokemon or a cool new facilty? No way to say for sure just yet.

    • I guess they did show quite abit but I don’t think they’ve spoiled it all.
You get the feeling that there is much more that they are hiding

  5. so it appears the new characters all have blue hair. I wonder why they chose to do that. Not a huge thing, but it’s just weird as their hair color isn’t exactly a natural one.

  6. I wonder what the blue and pink lights are flying over Hala. Maybe Lele and fini? Maybe the island guardians take on the UBs more in these games. Maybe they fight in their Z forms!!!!!!!!
