Japanese Toy Hints Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Pokédex Includes 400 Species

Alongside the release of a Pokémon Sun & Moon, a toy-version of the Rotom Dex which allowed players to view 100 new Pokémon that were added in Generation VII was also sold in Japan.

Now, to correspond with the release of Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, an upgraded version is being advertised with a bigger screen and “complete records of Alola’s 400 Pokémon”! That’s an interesting number, considering the original Alola Pokédex capped out at 302 (the last Pokémon being Marshadow). Considering it is able to communicate with USUM, that selection of 400 Pokémon seems like a deliberate choice to correspond with the games. It also clearly shows Necrozma being #400 on the Rotom Dex’s screen.

This suggests that 100 new Pokémon which were not able to be found in Alola the first time around will now be able to be captured in the region!

If so, this makes it quite a large addition compared to past same generation follow-ups. Platinum expanded Diamond & Pearl‘s Pokédex by about 60, while Black 2 & White 2 added around 150 to their predecessor’s (although in the original Black & White featured solely new Pokémon, unlike other games, which makes BW2 seem like a bigger jump).

What do you think?!

  1. Crisis averted from the last article. I just needed to physically switch the microSD cards after removing the backplates (which I still have to put back on). Literally the most terrifying moment of the month so far.

  2. My bet is that a little over half of those new 100 will be old Pokémon that simply weren’t in Alola before (possibly with a few new Alolan Forms thrown in) and the other half are… completely new? Geez, it feels so weird to actually be speculating about genuine new Pokémon midway through a generation of games

    • God, do you really expect 50 new pokemon? Imo if we arrive to 10 it will be a miracle. Despite the fact that I believe that they will introduce only new UBs and maybe some Alola forms if we are lucky…

  3. I wonder how many of these are new alolan forms, and how many are just standard additions to the regional dex (like maybe actually having Lunatone and Solrock?)

  4. Pretty excited for this Dex number. I loved the vast size of X and Y’s dex, so to see a Dex consisting of 400 mons is really getting my attention. My hopes are for Noivern and Crawdaunt to appear in these games.

  7. Does anybody else really dislike the rotom Dex? I find it extremely annoying in both the anime and the games. I wish they just went with a regular stylized Dex or a Rotom that didn’t talk at least in such an annoying way.

    • I don’t really have strong feelings either way. But I think it’s a major step down from the pokedex we had in ORAS. I feel like they could do way more now that a pokemon is living inside of it. Introduce some cool new and *helpful* features, not the ability to take pictures.

  8. So I actually didn’t like today’s episode… I feel the battles just didn’t have that oomph or pow…

Brock did very little just basically a Gyro Ball counter and stopped right there only for it to exchange light blows, tank a Z-Move and retaliate

And Misty was pretty good but just didn’t get my blood pumping the way battles used to

But back to more important matters, I had a gut feeling after this nostalgia trip we would tackle more plot related elements, I just didn’t think they would dish out Cosmog this early but these are good because clearly the class adopted the infantile nebula and even more shocking the introduction of the Aether foundation and Lusamine, (who I theorized that she caused something traumatic that made Lillie so afraid of Pokemon)
Hopefully this also means that Team Skull will be a more threat and the introduction of Guzma (and Guzma equals Golisopod)

And finally we may see a Litten focused story to push its evolution

        • I said they were the easiest things to guess, not the likeliest to occur. By that I mean it doesn’t require much creative insight to think they can do new Pokémon, it’s a very broad guess.

          • You didn’t read my post, did you? Saying new Pokémon are included, is a lot easier to guess then for example saying Lusamine will marry professor Kukui, solely due to the complexity of the guess. I didn’t say it was likely that new Pokémon will occur, and guessing something isn’t the same as being right. Hundreds of people guess that new Pokémon will be included in new games all the time, it was bound to happen that one would be right by accident.

          • These rumours are almost always a form of survivorship bias ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivorship_bias ) where just because of the sheer amount of rumours, there will be always some that get some things right.
The only credible rumours are those with very specific guesses that get redeemed in a relatively short time frame, like the leaked Pokédex in BW.

          • Johto stuff please. Different Sunkern, Dunsparce, Teddiursa, Shuckle, Phanpy would be ok for me, but I don’t care a lot about Alolan formes to be honest, because I fear they will be forgotten towards the next generations.
