Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have become the first follow-up titles in the Pokémon series to introduce entirely new creatures mid-generation with the reveal of two Ultra Beasts during the recent Nintendo Direct. The official Nintendo coverage of the event hints that those might not be the only new Pokémon we’ll be getting though.

The above translates to “Look forward to hearing about new Ultra Beasts soon!” and could mean that we’ll be getting other new Ultra Beasts this November.
I’ll add a cautionary note that a very conservative translation would pin the new ultra beasts as referring to only Assembly and Burst, but let’s let our minds run wild for a bit. I did consider removing this article due to the big potential of there being no new reveals, but ultimately I think for the health of the fandom it may be nice to have something to possibly look forward to. Just don’t hope too hard.

I really hope they reveal new Alolan forms too, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up for brand new regular Pokemon. This kind of treatment will likely be reserved for special Pokemon and legendaries. The UBs are basically legendaries so it makes sense for them to add more. Especially when we only have 2 mythicals and both are already released (more or less)
Oh I don’t plan to get my hopes up. Would just be nice to get some new regular Pokémon. If anything the new UBS gave me some slight hope for new alolan forms

I mean I wouldn’t be surprised if they added more. It’d be weird to only add two and have THESE be those two. It seems unlikely that they’d reveal these two more than a month in advance of the games coming out unless there were more. If Burst and Assembly were the only two to be revealed then I’d imagine they’d want to treat them special and not reveal them so soon.

I mean in this prerelease we need SOMETHING to get excited about. Regardless of what kind of games USUM are I’d say TPC has done a very bad job in advertising it. It’s not even a lack of info they’re doing wrong. Every time they bring it up it’s more or less luke warm info and then they act like it doesn’t exist. You can be aloof when it comes to the run up to a game (it makes the game more enjoyable most of the time not to know very much) but they’re not doing enough when they DO put out info to give people a reason to buy the games. It just comes off like they themselves think of USUM as a blow off game. It’s not a good look. If you’re going to sell something you gotta put your all into it.

I feel like it means learn more about the ones we have just seen and not knew ones. It’s 50/50 on them adding more IMO. i can picture it, but it doesnt seem very likely. I rather see more alola forms, or something in game that wasnt in SM.
More Ultra Beasts are fine, I would much prefer more new regular Pokemon and Alolan variants if we are getting new stuff though.
Most of us predicted new Pokémon since these games are called Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Their names is a reference to Ultra Beasts and since the Ultra Space has a bigger part in the story this time around, it would makes sense for there to be new Pokémon. Another thing is the title of the games suggest that these are improved versions of the original, so things like more Alolan forms seen likely.
No new Pokémon in mid-gen has ever been introduced, until now.
Because of this, it is now a high possibility of more UBs and Alolan forms. Only introducing two new UBs is cool but also pathetic when compared to ORAS that introduced about 20 new megas, 2 primals, and cosplay Pikachu (who is unfortunately is dead)

Call me delusional, but I’m 100% on the hype train for new Alolan forms.
My bets are Arbok, Kingler and Rapidash, all Kanto Pokémon not yet available in Alola.
I can definitely see Ground-type Arbok in Haina Desert (based off desert serpents), Fighting-type Kingler as a rival to Crabominable (as in a Yeti vs Bigfoot showdown), and Water-type Rapidash (based off the kelpie from mythology) as one of the new rideable Pokémon.
Kelpie rapidash is actually a good idea for an alolan.

Honestly, I have some odd dreams for what this game would bring.
Snowflake fractal UB, amorphous liquid metal UB, and a UB that looks like a normal pokemon but becomes more horrifying when it attacks (like those old cartoons where a monster would roar at a kitten then the kitten would roar louder with a giant mouth)
Evolution for Komala to make it awake, and definitely some buffs to pokemon like Bruxish, Togedemaru, Salazzle, and Ribombee.

About the introduction of the new UBs in the total dex (802 for now), I don’t think they will change that. Imo all the new staff goes after Marshadow with a new Myhical being introduced (maybe the star shaped ‘mon on the boxarts?) at the end of the pokedex.
This makes me believe that no new regular pokemon will be introduced (sad), while there’s still a chance for new Alola Forms- I’m quite positive however about at least 2 new UBs coming to the bunch.

I was curious about the science of differences between gen 6 and 7 graphically…
at a glance, taking away from the trainers and obvious background choices, the games look very close to the same…
But i am starting to realize some cool things about the games Graphics for the pokemon and world.
Here are my findings:
The reason of limitations such as no triple battles and no real 3d is actually related to lag and graphics. you see, we have trainers, so fitting 3 into battle on both sides would create chaos, 3 + 3 + 2 trainers = 8 3d graphics, plus the lightning, camera, and the background enhancements to boot, sure there’s no ground pads anymore, but the game got very complicated very quickly on the 3ds, even with the cache/memory clears on the regular 3ds/2ds and the new 3ds/2ds acceleration power. Plus 3 on 3 triple battles were rarely used in regular instances, so cutting them for this gen was a good call for the majority… That’s not to say 3 on 3 is gone, but they need more power (Switch?) to run it, for sure.
The reason for no 3d in game is both S.O.S. Battles and the use of a new feature for handhelds that can only be used without 3d… AA, or Anti-aliasing. This effect makes the lines blend more into the model and BG to create a smoother, cleaner look. The 3ds isn’t designed to handle AA and 3d together in most cases because the results can get ugly real fast or bog down memory, which is why Gen 6, despite having 3d, did without.
The models other than the AA, didn’t change too much, but they added better lighting to them to make them more shiny and appealing to the eyes, they might have even bumped up the resolution of the models just a bit, they do look smoother as well. Take note that prior to this gen, doing transparent parts on pokemon or reflective parts was not very bedazzling, in this gen, it looks so much prettier, and we got a new element they are playing with, glowing, like you can see on Xurkitree, this is extremely different because it’s still part of the pokemon, but also the lighting itself, this is very unique to these pokemon, and especially during the night when it’s dark, because they stay well lit.
The shading also got a boost with a few extra hues and colors that differ from gen 6, much like OR/AS, which actually edited the colors to look more like R/S (Pretty sneaky, but cool~) As a matter of fact, try playing with the same pokemon in X/Y, OR/AS, and Sun/Moon you will be amazed how much the color changes between them, especially in battle. (Try different times, too!)
So in conclusion, the games look very much the same, but the creators of the games are very careful with colors, lightning and shading to give each a unique feel. You may not notice the differences yet, but if you read this and look real closely… You might be surprised the thoughtfulness of each one~
An important thing to mention is that they prepared the models to last after the 3DS’s lifetime so they didn’t have to redo them all. Therefore they are WAY over detailed. Even though the 3DS compresses them it is still a lot so the 3DS games run like garbage

So someone already shared this video in the comments section, but I would like to point out what I believe are some very reliable leaks that were actually released on March 28th. In the video they mention how they already got 6 things right and one of them being the names of the game (you have to admit that no one could have guessed the names of these games to be USUM and that the general consensus was that it would be Eclipse or Stars) so that and the timing of these leaks is part of the reason why I find it to be quite credible. Basically just skip to 12:05 if you are interested in only the leaks. I am now quite hopeful that these are going to be exciting games with significant changes in the plot.

I’d like the rumours about there being new Pokemon to be true, and it could turn out to be a credible source.
I am not sure how I would interpret that one. The new UBs have already been confirmed, the new Alola forms will coincide with the upcoming VC, however I think the new Pokes mentioned will only apply to stuff like Lycanroc’s new form since that is not an Alola form. As Joe Serebii mentions, it is hard to add Pokémon to the National Pokedex midgen. However, that may be why we didn’t have a National Pokedex in SM.
Other than getting the names for the games correctly…all of these things are extremely easy to guess.
The fact is that he or she wasn’t even guessing that the names of the games were USUM, it wasn’t one of the bullet points. They just put it as his or her name on the thread-as mentioned in the video. The fact that they didn’t even point it out as the title of the games well in a thread that was more than 2 months in advance of the announcement of these games adds to the veracity of these rumors much more than him or her saying that the title of these games are USUM, 2 months in advance (even in this case it is hard to guess that). The subtelty of that one aspect of his or her rumors is what tilted me over to presenting this on the comments section as something that-in my opinion-is 95% credible.
I suppose it’s possible, but what else do they really have to tell us at this point? Most of their hints have come true. I couldn’t make out what else the poster had said.
That is definitely something to consider. But I am being optomistic-in part due to us not knowing how he or she obtain this set of info-and believe that if these rumors are true, it does not also mean that these rumors are all of the novel features that will be in USUM. I mean he or she hadn’t mentioned either of the new areas that we have been shown so far. What I find most appealing about this list is that it promises more in terms of Pokémon-especially Alola forms. So really, this is something that really served to hype me up for these games even more. For the UBs, it’s because that, from what most of us believe, the games are going to focus heavily on Necrozma and the UBs, so having new beasts in the game seems fitting as they are expanding on the mythology of the UBs.
For the other stuff you said, there can exist a possibility for that to happen, though I’m not too certain due to how GF will approach the mid-gen new Pokemon.

There’s a clear drop in quality during gen 5. also I HATE the intros that talk about being heroes and saving the world. Either Ash saves the day or he doesn’t. the intros should always be about striving to beat all opponents and be at the top!

Ok so seriously XY are underrated.
Currently in Ambrette Town (2nd play through) and I’m loving it.
What I like most is the beauty theme which is reflected in the beautiful Kalos region, the Kalos mons are great + the overall dex.
The game has great pacing and the mystical feel of the adventure just wins my heart.
Forget about 3d graphic issues whatever else, these are great games.
You can tell GF put a lot of effort in designing.
And yes they should have made a sequel.
One thing I love about the game is the replayablility. Sure, the story is pretty meh, but there’s a huge amount of Pokemon in the Dex. Really I found myself often replaying it (about 4 times actually) because of how fun it was to go through and play with a completely new team (also the pacing for having these teams are pretty nice, even if the game goes by fast).

Yes it doesn’t drag on like past titles, the pacing is fast. Also you get quick access to a variety of Pokemon and the region is not overly complicated, creative yet simplistic like art.

I don’t think we did because the game I played dragged on forever with pointless characters, odd character building moments that didn’t build character, slow pokemon riding, and huge gaps between badges.

Uhh there are pointless characters in every game star.
The pacing was fast focusing more on the core aspects of the series e.g catching, evolving and battling with Pokemon.
The adventure starts quickly, before you know it you have 2 diff’ starters.
There’s no pokemon contests, pokeathlon or much distraction.
You feel like you’re making progress all the time. It’s fun.
I’m talking about the rivals. No other game had this many rivals with such little purpose for existing. They slow down the game and make you stop repeatedly
It also takes over an hour of gameplay before you get that second starter and ~15 minutes for to get your Kalos starter.
Also not having those things isn’t a plus? Pokemon is really repetitive and those mini games are important to divert your focus for a bit while getting rewards for the main game.
I still like Trevor (who had a reasonable goal. Yes completing the Pokedex is a good goal)
Only if you care about what your rivals say, if you just rapid fire A-button takes only a few mins.
Some of those rewards I don’t think are worth it. Like the Pokeathilon you need to win like 10 consecutive times just to buy one little stone (that you might need to wait a week to get)
Unlike Silver, Gary, Lillie or Bianca though, nin of them are characters. They don’t have interesting personalities. Completing the pokedex isn’t interesting because it’s not like he’s competing with us anyways.
Tireno’s dancing doesn’t even make sense. There is nothing about dancing that is related to Pokémon. He does nothing to help the plot
Shauna is a disaster. She has a horrible design and she only exists to be a love interest. But only for boys because game Freak is scared of the gaysss
Serena/Callum has no room to be an interesting character because they are one of those opposite sex rivals that exist only because they didn’t want to design another character. Since they are basically just the player they can’t be allowed to have any interesting conflicts

I like side games but I appreciate them making the games less cluttery and more about the adventure/core aspects. Sometimes less is more.
And of course they serve a purpose they are your damn friends who are on a journey with you. Friendship plays a big role in these games and I loved the contrasting characters.
And no it doesnt take 15 mins and an hour to get both starters. You must be very slow in that case.
They are completely optional though? Side games is what keep replay ability uo and give a break because pokemon is boring and repetitive on its own. That’s why they have overworld exploration, side quests, and MINI GAMES to break it up so it stays fun an enjoyable. X and Y doesn’t have anything like that other than amie which has little to no depth. Therefor it’s dreadfully boring especially between gyms 1 and 2.
Also yeah the concept is fine but the execution is awful. Why should I care about the characters? I have no connection to them. Hell its not like Hugh where at least the player haracter was child hood friends with these kids, you just met them as soon as you moved in and they dragged you along on their adventure.

Ehh I agree mostly except the great pacing part. The gap between the 1st and 2nd gym was atrocious. Post game was non existent. Most of all, how they completely messed up the story. The story with looker, AZ,floette, team flare,zygarde,the characters. It could have been soo much better with a platinum style game. Kalos was robbed.

For me at least grant easy unless you didn’t have a fighting type.
He was way too easy and here’s my theory why he was difficult
-Most people used Fletchling, Charmander and/or Torchic, all terrible to fight Rock
-Froakie and Frogadeir are too frail to rack up damage
-Ivysaur wasn’t a strong suiter for it either
Why I had it easy
-The defensive and still powerful enough Quiladin and Wartortal are beasts in the gym
-Draining Kiss with Vivillon helps
-Skiddo is a good choice as well
-Flabébé has a lot of use too
-Eevee was just more their for level ups
I had a solid team to crack down on all three types repeatedly
I had a riolu in my first run so that’s probably why I had an easy time
I found Viola slightly challenging.
I should be battling Grant real soon as I’ll be going to Cyllage City later.

Underrated? Lol sorry but I thought those games were awful. Easy, boring story and evil team, annoying “rivals”, forgettable gym leaders. Only good thing to me was the pokemon it introduced (Talonflame, Aegislash, etc.)

The games aren’t up to standard and are probably the worst main series Pokémon games. If you like it, that’s fine. Some people like cheap fast food. You’re allowed to like but you just have to understand that you probably have poor taste

I kind of prefer Aqua as the kinda good team since they seem a bit friendlier and ‘warmer’, though I don’t think either’s plans are good Magmas might be more liveable unless humans can adapt better to life permanently on the sea. I think Magma seem more villainous, cold and more ‘closed off’. Maybe it’s because Maxie seems more like some kind of egotistical Scientist, Tabitha somewhat weird and unnerving, and Courtney, a robotic sociopath. I prefer their outfits though, especially the hood.

Both of their plans plans make no sense but I do like Magma. In the Jirachi movie especially they look like this creepy cult. Maxie is a lovable dork though and Courtney is just adorable and I wish she had a character half as good as her design

Sooooooo frustrated right now. So I’m trying to beat the final boss in KH D3 and every time I get to a point where you have to do a special event thingy and every time I fail it. The boss then regenerates a few bars of health and there I am having to battle him back to that point again………I have the power to beat him, but this event is SOOOOOOO ANNOYING!!! You have to break these chains by tapping on a specific part, but I can never get more than a couple before the event ends and he regenerates………GRRRRRRR I’ve been stuck at this part for the better part of 5 years now. I always do this. I get to the end of whatever KH game I’m playing and then year later I finally beat it. this time however I’m being stopped by a stupid 3ds gimmick they’re forcing on me…….
Reality Shift is an awful mechanic
I hate this so much. It’s a fine mechanic when it’s optional to use in regulars battles, but being forced to use this particular reality shift is mind numbing…….I guess I’ll just have to keep trying and hopefully I can lucky and hit all the chain links within the time limit……
You have to be quick and have good timing for that particular fight. I never struggled with it myself, but maybe because im a KH fanatic and know all games like the back of my hand
It’s just so annoying as I’m powerful enough to be able to get through the main battling part without much trouble. Once I get to that point I just can’t seem to hit the marks. I love KH so much, but this game was frustrating hahaha

I feel they could’ve done more with shiny Mantine, I know why they couldn’t in gen 2 but they could’ve reworked it later. Still it’s not the worst.

I’ve mentioned before that I think the reason they’re rushing Ash through the trials is because there’s still something for him to do in Alola AFTER the trials. Something that we may end up having in USUM. similar to how in BW they had him take on Plasma later on in the season. Only you know…..better

Yeah, I thought about it, but I’m more into figures since they are nicer to look at for me. I think they would fit in the new one, though it depends how they clip in, but it’s not like they are changing all Z-crystals in game to the new shape so it should be fine.
Yay! I love the figures, but they are so expensive here its $15.00 for a Togedemaru figure and I payed $13 for my Mimikyu figure
But I am happy for those Z crystals I also plan on getting Icium Z, Flynium Z and Fairium Z pack before long
Yeah they are quite alot here too, though we only have 3 SuMo packs, one is £12 Rockruff with an Ultra Ball, another is something like £9 for a Rowlet. Oh and there is a big box of like 12 figures for £40-ish. That’s why I’ll only buy if I really want them. The only SuMo figures I have right now are Solgaleo and Lunala because they were pre-order bonuses.

It’s so annoying, we get so little here and what we do get costs ridiculous amounts. The ones I’d want most are probably Lure, Fast and Moon, but Ideally I’d get all. We got some cheaper ones (like £2 each and contained a figure) that had sweets in like 12 years ago I think, they weren’t hinged and were printed patterns but still nice. I have Friend and Heavy in those. I think I got my Magcargo figure in the Friend one.
I think the ones I’d want the most are the Lure, Heavy, and GS. Those are the coolest imo. But yeah it’s a shame they aren’t currently being sold outside of Japan. Maybe one day they’ll come to the Pokemon center website……Well that would fix things for me seeing as I live in the US, but I guess that wouldn’t fix things for the rest of the world…..

Gyarados is hard wired for rage and destruction, it destroys things until it is calmed down, I think it is very fitting then the played out dragon

UB Burst is so cute! I want one!
Hey all, long time no see! I don’t know why, but I feel that UB Burst will be Fire-type, or part Fire. Maybe either Fire/Ice or Fire/Electirc, only because F/E are the two most energetic types I know, or the alternating colors on its head may allude to a duality of sorts (pink and blue).
