English Rockruff Download Event Announced for Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

A special Rockruff that evolves into Lycanroc’s Dusk Form has been confirmed for distribution outside of Japan for Western gamers who purchase Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. It also confirms that the form will not be able to be obtained through normal gameplay by evolving a wild Rockruff.

Dusk Form Lycanroc shares some of the aspects of Midday Form, such as a four-legged stance and obedience toward its trusted Trainer. But it’s also like Midnight Form—at the moment it attacks, its eyes turn red! Around its neck are four rocks like those of Midday Form, while the mane on its head matches that of Midnight Form.

It has also come with a new trailer starring Lycanroc’s new form which you can watch below.

  1. I will say I do love the new Wild battle theme. Still kind of annoyed that dusk lycanroc is event only but what can you do. Hopefully we get more news soon. I just want to know if we are getting new alolan forms at this point

  5. So both Marshadow and Lycanroc Dusk Form have been confirmed to “unleash their fighting spirit” when they use certain moves, during which they slightly change in appearance (Marshadow turns greener with fiery eyes, Lycanroc’s eyes turn red like Lycanroc Midnight Form.) Maybe this “fighting spirit” plays into some Alola Pokémon getting a form change.

  6. I know it’s getting a lot of hate, but I actually really do like Lycanroc Dusk. It’s really not hat bad. Sure it’s model is essentially midday, but the overall design isn’t bad. The jury is still out, but maybe I’ll use it maybe I won’t. We shall see. It’s weird that it’s an event only form tho. Very odd. All this said I really do hope we can get some actual info soon. Forms are good filler, but there need wot be actual info in between for there to actually be something to get excited about.

  7. Thinking it might have Accelerock and Counter before it evolves, that’s why it’s the only one that can become Dusk. That or some other move, maybe a new one, the howling move we see here?

  9. Thinking about the GSC virtual console, it could have a way to transfer apricorn balls to new games, hopefully in large quantities. That or just put Kurts now grown up Grandaughter/protege in USUM.

GameFreak recently talked about story progression and an open-world Pokemon title in their recent GameInformer interview. Ultimately, Masuda said an open-world structure wouldn’t work well for Pokemon. Yet, options are still always open for such changes.

Personally, I agree! An open-world Pokemon game would not work with the current mechanics of the series. I think Monolith Soft or an internal team at Nintendo could handle an open-world Pokemon title with GameFreak assisting. I would love for Pokemon to shift to the past, which would make it easier to craft a massive world! Honestly, it could be done for the series!

Also, I doubt the Switch title would be a massive “open-world” people want. The world will be bigger, but still contain linear elements. This is completely fine by me though, I just want to see what GameFreak could do with some powerful hardware. Still, it would contain elements from open-world titles to enhance the gameplay.

    • Yeah, I think the region will work like the others regions but with bigger cities and routes and more branching paths instead of it being full open world

      Reply
    • I can’t watch it right now but I’m calling bs. Pokemon was one of the first “open world games” and on the GB of all systems.

Let pokemon evolve. Throw away the mechanics holding pokemon back. Let us explore a world. Fill it with Pokémon. Change the battle system if you need to.

Pokemon is too scared to change. If I had more time (I’m in school) I could go more into this and maybe I will when I’m home but an open world pokemon game would work and would work amazingly.

A Pokémon BotW would be amazing

      • lol. You act like it’s a simple task to accomplish. Look at how long it took to put Breath of the Wild together. I’m honestly sick of the “open-world” trend in gaming. It’s like everyone feels that every series must be obligated to have an open-world title. I’m not saying an open-world Pokemon game couldn’t work. I think it could with the right team and people. I think Pokemon along with Shin Megami Tensei and Dragon Quest are some series where traditionalism stands true. I would like to see your ultimate thoughts on an open-world Pokemon game.

    • Pretty much same. There are so many open world titles, pokemon could be called a break in between Botws and other oddyseys!

Look, here’s the thing… I think TTG is over hated… Like, It’s mostly terrible, but people seem to never see the good parts. It’s 70% garbage, 20% not bad and 10% percent good, which is not terrible looking at how many episodes the creators have to make as quickly as possible. I m not saying it doesn’t deserve any hate, god I wanna hate it when I see they make a sh*tty 5 parter about the one episode that got great reviews… But it makes me laugh once in a while, some songs are OK, it has cool references to comics and its absurd creativity is neat sometimes. With that being said: IN NOOOO F*CKING WAY DOES IT DESERVE AN EMMY MORE THAN ANY OF THE SHOWS WRITTEN ABOVE, INCLUDING MY FAVOURITE ANIMATED SHOW OF ALL TIME, IN NO WAY DOES IT DESERVE SO MUCH F*CKING SCREEN TIME ON CN AND I’M REALLLY HAPPY THAT IT WILL BE REPLACED WITH A LIVE ACTION ARROWVERSE SERIES! EVEN A THOUGHT OF TEEN F*CKING TITANS F*CKING GO GETTING AN EMMY IS A NIGHTMARE!

  12. As the discussion grows ever stronger, how do people believe an open-world Pokemon game could work? Honestly, I’m personally fatigued of the rampant “open-world” trend in gaming. I stated this in my previous comments that I believe Pokemon, Shin Megami Tensei, and Dragon Quest are series where traditionalism works wonderfully. Still, I’m open to viewing how others believe such a concept would work. I would pose some challenges to an open-world title, such as; lack of focus, lack of narrative importance (this plagued games like BotW and FF15 to a degree), apparent repetitiveness, and the fear of boredom.

I personally do think that Pokemon could venture into an open-world eventually. I believe a wonderful team combination between Monolith Soft and GameFreak could make such a title work. Gameplay would obviously have to be changed drastically. I would love to see a shift to maybe an action battle system for the series! They could honestly craft ideas from Xenoblade and BotW to provide inspiration for the Pokemon title.

My thoughts aren’t fully detailed, but I do believe the next Pokemon title will retain the traditional nature but obviously bring a lot of modernism and open-world concepts to the game. Still, do provide your opinions and thoughts! I’m seriously interested to know how the community feels.

    • Oh, I think Pokemon could be more open world but not entirely open world, OW games are hard to make, I mean, both the examples you presented got delayed atleast once.

But the issues you presented, the lack of narrative importance and lack of focus are sometimes present in Pokemon games, because they’re already a little bit open world but more linear.

So I just want for Pokemon to be less linear and a little more open

      Reply
    • A fully Botw like open world pokemon game would not work.
What’s best is a Pokemon game but with larger routes, towns, cities and multiple optional you can go to and explore.

      Reply
      • In Johto we could choose some of the order we did things in, it could be like that in some areas, a sort of in between of linear and open if that makes sense. Really areas just need to be bigger with more events and more to explore imo.

When you play a new Pokemon, what are you mostly interested in: the Story, Gameplay, the Pokemon, or perhaps the Setting?

  14. Hmmmmmm….I already repeated this on a different forum, but I’m not a huge fan of the new form. It looks like they took Lycanroc-Midday and just made it orange, and THEN they put the mane of Midnight on it. The thing is that I’m usually not harsh when it comes to Pokemon like this but it feels like there was very little effort put into making it. I feel that the transitioning between both forms is kinda stilted and could’ve been A LOT smoother in the final design.
The problem for me is that it’s really not different enough. Like—I get it’s an in between form but much more could’ve been done to make it stand out a bit. I suppose it’s fine, but I would like to see some more news on other aspects of USUM

As for other things I’m loving the battle music. Glad they took the BW2 route and decided to revamp all of it. The trainer design is also growing on me as well and I’m starting to like it. As for the battle screen I like that they changed it. I was starting to get sick of the sketch mark so it’s refreshing to not see it anymore.

      • Agreed the entire concept needs a bit more a jolt to be better in my eyes. By adding some extra teeth or even more stones, I can see it going overall much better than what we got.

        • The legs look terrible imo being all one colour, especially since both other Lycanroc forms have that pattern and colouring on their legs that the actual Dusk has. The glowing yellow/green eyes don’t work for me tbh, the current eyes work well and has the whole ‘glows like midnight’ thing which fits it fine. Only thing I like is the extra tooth but even then, Midnight Lycanroc’s teeth stay within its mouth if that’s what it’s trying to emulate.

          Reply
          • The colour just doesn’t work together, the legs being white ties the white fur together with the design

          • I don’t agree with that it will look be cool as i said if the claws r black and that make ppl not whining cuz he looks similar like day form.

          • How would just changing its colour make people stop complaining about if being al midday Lycanroc colour swap?

          • But the thing is, the patterning and coloring of the legs isn’t different between Midday and Midnight. They both have the exact same white shape and pattern on their legs. It’s mean to be the same between all the forms.

And imo, there would be people annoyed at the random black-brown legs because it just doesn’t balance the design well. That colour on Lycanroc is a detail, not a main colour.

          • Right the color is not different but the shape is but midday and dusk have the shape issue so they need to change more about it and this color work well with rock type …..I didn’t say it’s the better design though but it will serve the concept better.

          • Colour doesn’t just work because of a Pokemon’s type. Adding an overwhelming amount of blue to say, an orange water type, isn’t justified because it’s a water type, because it’s probably gonna be pretty ugly.

Most people aren’t that bothered by the fact it’s similar in shape to midday Lycanroc, because with going to look like midday just by being bipedal and sharing the trains the other two Lycanroc both have. It’s the fact that they didn’t add enough detail to it to make it look like an in between. There’s multiple traits from Midnight it could’ve inherited, but it just got hair and eyes.

          • Lol no, people aren’t mad because it’s bipedal, people are mad because it’s not a good fusion and the fact that it’s a midday recolour. Just changing the legs isn’t going to do anything, because the entire top just still looks like Lycanday. Adding more features of midnight rather than just recolouring it is how to fix that.

    • Eh, but honestly, because we are probably not getting dawn, the Dusk form should have more elements from Midnight because it feels like a Midday color

The legend says, a group of magic spirits possesed some furniture and became trapped in these bodies. They don’t do much harm to anyone unless they feel in danger. If their trainers tell them to detroy something, they will. Childern are often scared of them.

They have few forms representing diffrent styles/eras of furniture

  20. I love the new hp bars- reminds me of the black and white hp bars.
But I feel like the hp bars are making a statement to the game – the original SM had bright paint swath as the hp bar, and granted the game itself was bright and bubbly – this new one seems to be more digital and “advanced”, and seeing how it fits well with the new forms of Solgaleo and Lunala, there might be more of an emphasis on this in the new USUM games

    • Depends on how you want to play that weapon! You want to be speedy and hit and run. Speed and power. It sometimes depends on the weapon too. Like I will try a splat one, but you want to have a lot of power and use kraken when ever your stuck andto run away, you get special Up. and Power

      Reply
        • I dont know how the weapons are played. But I think you want to choose two different sets for each.
I know in Splat 1 Run Speed didnt affect the brush speed. But for brush I think some power, and maybe swim speed up would help. And maybe depending on how often you use sub that would help too

  22. What if events could be obtained in an Event Area/Zone, one at a time, somewhat reminiscent of this https://68.media.tumblr.com/1d936fe52b090c76bbc9bfd73d6f6168/tumblr_okuvc52UbW1rv6iido1_500.gif

they could give us the option of guaranteed capture with Cherish Ball upon entering the area (given by a gatekeeper, taken away upon exit if you don’t use it), or battling and using a different ball if we want with the capture rates already coded for them. It would imo make it feel a bit more significant.

  23. Am I the only one that’s gonna miss the water color scribbles from SM in USUM for the HP bar? I found them delightful and very creative. I feel like they really capture how SM are very much in tune with nature. They flow on like water. While the new HP bar and other UI features look great I feel like they look too mechanical for Alola.
