Pokémon Main Series Confirmed for Nintendo Switch

One of the more interesting tidbits to come from Nintendo’s E3 showing was this tidbit:

While many have speculated that the main Pokémon series would be making the jump from the Nintendo 3DS to the Switch, it has now been confirmed that we will be seeing games on the latter. It was later added that it could be “well over a year” until we see a title on Nintendo’s latest console however, hinting that it could be Gen VIII.

Are you HYPED to see a Switch Pokémon RPG?? I am! You may have seen on Twitter last night that I have one in my apartment now… although it is my roommate’s. Sewaddle salaries don’t cover such luxuries :'(

  1. Hmm. That wording has been erking me now for awhile. I don’t mean to damper anyone’s hope, but I wanted to ask does Japan usually call main series games “core”. I don’t recall them doing so, and it kinda strikes me odd that they would NOA would also call it core. Like when I hear “Core” I think more in terms of gameplay then saying its a main series game. Like it could be a coliseum or XD sort of game. But I suppose let’s just leave that up to GF’s bad communication skills as of late.

    Reply
    • I wouldn’t call Coliseum or XD “core” games. They were side games indefinitely. In addition to that Ishihara specifically stated it was GameFreak that was making the Switch title and that can only mean main series. GF ONLY makes the main series games so if it’s involving them then there’s really no doubt about it. I think them using the word “core” is just their way of saying mainline games. You can really call them whatever you want, but at the end of the day it all means the same thing lol

      Reply
      • Ehh, I’m not so convinced. I would call them core games in the sense of gameplay. Coliseum and XD were nearly identical to the main series games, say for one small mechanic to make them different. As well, never say that never doing something before means that it can never happen. As it stands right now we have just as much evidence of them making a new separate series of pokemon as it being a main series game, which is to say we have nothing but a vague word saying their working on a game. Also I again disagree with that being their word for the main series games, given that they do tend to call them main series game. The Pokemon direct did use the word main, not core.

That said though I’m not doubting that its a main series game, merely saying that we should be careful of assuming that a vague statement means what ever we wish it to be, when it might not.

        • While I’ll agree the idea of something not happening before is not a good reason for something never happening I have to disagree as far as GF making a side game. Precedent is one thing, but GF’s main and only task is making the main games. The only things they make that aren’t the main Pokemon games are their own side projects. TPC have other companies handle the side games. Sure GF COULD make side games, but after 20 years I think they’re perfectly happy with making the core series games. It’s not their responsibility to make side games nor should it be. Their main responsibility should be creating the main series. Plus when would they have time for a side game? GF as a company isn’t huge so they’d need a considerable amount of people for the side game. That’d take away fro main series projects.

          • At the same time though I’m not saying that their making a full on spin-off game, but more of a sub series to it. Like a Pokemon game better structured for a console style of play, having more of a focus on story with maybe a smaller number of pokemon obtainable and making the game over all longer, while continuing on what we would call the main series with the 3DS for now and if Nintendo has anything planned as a proper successor for it, which we really don’t know right now. I agree I don’t expect them to make pokemon ranger or mystery dungeon, but a pokemon console RPG that is made in mind to be played on a home console isn’t that much of a stretch, which is why I say core might not equal main series.

          • I honestly think you’re looking too far into the exact wording. We’ll have to wait and see, but I can’t see GF deviating far from the regular main series formula. I doubt they’d multitask to make games for both the Switch AND the 3DS. The Switch is basically a handheld in it’s own right already. Sure they’r billing it as a home console that you can take on the go, but if you talk to anyone that owns a Switch (including myself lol) You’ll hear that the handheld mode is actually much better than the tv mode. The TV mode is good, but being able to take stuff on the go has a better feel to it. The Switch is perfect for the main series Pokemon games.

  2. This means usum are going to be the last pokemon games on 3ds, which means the games on switch will be gen 8 since a new console will mean a complete overhaul and stuff.. this means gen 7 will be very short and it also means that we’ll have to wait even longer for sinnoh remakes

    Reply
    • why does everyone sound so convinced that Sinnoh remakes are gonna be next?
Seriously there has been literally nothing pointing them towards this possibility

      Reply
      • Other then the sudden increase in Sinnoh pokemon being marketed front and center, and t he latest direct purposely leaving out the Sinnoh games from their shrine of games?

        Reply
        • that first one is a bunch of malarky what have they been marketing
And that cannot be anything other than just a weird little thing

          Reply
          • The biggest increase in marketing has been having Piplup and Lucario appearing in the upcoming movie. The thing is though, why them? Like really? Why them? Certainly their liked pokemon, but so are plenty of pokemon. If we’re seeing this movie reference back to Kanto, why not Kanto starters, or why not Alola pokemon. Why two of the most popular pokemon that were introduced in Sinnoh, one of which can’t even be obtained in the games currently. That’s what get’s people questioning.

As for the games; there is no such thing as a weird little thing. Those sets are made very specifically by people to feature certain products. IN this case it oddly left out the sinnoh games, which did catch peoples eyes for being missing. It gets people talking about the missing games and gets people thinking about Sinnoh, which in of itself is some of the best free advertising you could have out of an announcement for a completely different game.

          • Lucario is always the it pokemon and this whole movie is a gigantic mess trying to work off the 20th
i just think y’all are unhinged with your Sinnoh lust

          • Yes and no with Lucario, but again you can’t really deny the other odd choice of pokemon. And even if you want to call the movie a mess, it doesn’t dispute that picking something newer or classic would make more sense from a marketing perspective.

And again I think your just willfully denying signs that are in front of you because you either don’t want to set yourself up for disappointment or truly don’t think that GF might be kinda cleaver when it comes to marketing.

          • nope i’m already in a constant sense of disappointment and you think signs there when its truly nothing more then coincidences

  3. I’m excited, but I also think them telling us this NOW was a bit useless. They already have a set of games coming out later this year and they themselves were only announced last week. Why say anything right now when the games will likely not be coming out until at least 2019? Seems like a weird move………For people that were already not huge fans of the idea of USUM (for what little we know about them at least) this makes them seem even more like filler that is almost useless. At this point I don’t think they really needed to say anything about a Switch game until the time it’s release was a little closer. I mean of course there was gonna be a Switch game. People who were against the idea for whatever reason were out of their minds. It was gonna happen eventually no matter what. Thus why I think them telling us so far in advance is kind of both useless and a bit redundant. That all said I’m SUPER excited to see a main series Pokemon game in HD. I’ve wanted this forever!!!! I really hope I’m wrong about it coming in 2019 and it actually comes next year!!! hahahaha

    Reply
    • It almost feels like they saw all the people crying about the Direct announcement and decided last minute that they would tell people that there actually is a Switch game coming… Because yeah I agree it was unnecessary, and that we probably won’t get it until 2019. I would much rather just see some more US/UM stuff now.

      Reply
      • I honestly doubt they would cave for the masses like that hahaha I’ve seen people saying that, but if they were that susceptible to that kind of pressure they’d acknowledge leaks more often. They don’t do that so why would they acknowledge people complaining? lol

        Reply
        • Maybe they didn’t realise just how many people were expecting that to be part of the Direct announcement? Acknowledging leaks is different than acknowledging the expectations of your fanbase and deciding to announce something. I dunno you’re probably right that it has nothing to do with it, but it definitely felt unnecessary to me.

          Reply
    • They had more than enough other Switch stuff that they were actually showing. Should’ve put USUM in there if anything.

      Reply
      • Yeah. Or maybe even just left it at them talking about Pokken. I really couldn’t care less about Pokken at this point (which I’m saddened about…..), but it would have made more sense than them dropping the news and then saying nothing more.

  4. I now think that next year will almost be a clone of 2015. They’ll probably announce a Mystery Dungeon game for the Switch, hint at Gen 9 in the fall, and then fully announce it in 2019.

    Reply
    • Yeah I think next year will likely be a skip year with hopefully some real side games. I’m enjoying the mobile games, but for a skip year they need a real game out. Hopefully not a MD game because those are awful……….lol Hopefully we can get another conquest game. that’d be great lol

      Reply
    • About a year would lead to E3 2018. I think we’ll hear something or see something about the new title there. Still, a skip wouldn’t be unexpected. Atlus’ upcoming Shin Megami Tensei for Switch should hold me over before then… if I find a Switch… lol.

  5. I hope this time around Gamefreak does things right with Gen 8
I was extremely unsatisfied with pretty much all of Sun and Moon

this would be Earthen’s perfect game/list of demands
-LARGE DEX: Lots and lots of new pokemon of amazing and unexpected type combinations and evenly distributed, i keep hearing this whole bullcrap of quality over quantity and i think its stupid, who doesn’t want a large variety of different pokemon
-less pussyfooting: i’m just so done with how much they water down the pokemon games and spoonfeeding us with the story and the battles, its just way too easy, don’t be afraid to crank up the difficulty, or at the very least use the switch’s power to make a challenge mode
-less gimmick coasting, lets face it they are too much prioritized with gimmicks driving the game and i’m kinda getting old of it, Megas were cool and i hate Z-Moves, the Gimmick should just be a solid game with tons of tons pokemon to use
-a jerk of a rival: i’m so annoyed how supported and caring the sad excuses of rivals we have, the last decent one was Hue at least he fought tooth and nail for his goal, but i want one that makes your blood curl because only through anger and frustration brings out your true strength
-a decent story: Sun and Moon’s story was a flop because they coasted WAY too much on Lillie’s mommy issues, i mean they didn’t really do anything aside from going to Ultra Space and a short battle, and nothing more, they barely used the Ultra Beasts. i want a really shocking and enticing story
-a really solid Online system, last good one was the PSS
-Stats and Moveset: i hate how some pokemon get better deals while others get nothing good, and usually its the popular types that get extra treatment

    Reply
    • I agree completely with the rivals. Hau was never intimidating or make you a little nervous to fight him (like a rival should be) and he was really annoying. My biggest complaint with S/M was I didn’t feel like I was on a journey, it felt like a field trip as Lillie and Hau were pretty much always with us, and Kukui was our chaperone.

  6. This news is very interesting to say the least, and is reminiscent of the time GF announced they would be developing a game for the DS system. It acted as a sign of reassurance that yes, they would indeed be making the jump to that console just as they are now with the switch. Kinda makes you wonder if this was also a subtle hint at generation four remakes….

No but seriously, Im happy they are making the switch (no pun intended), it just means the games will be able to hold more, therefore more content, less lag. and Just better all around!

I want to play my Switch, but other than Shovel Knight which I’m not in the mood currently for I have nothing. I suppose I have Mario Kart, but I’m not sure I want that right now either. I kind of want something new, but nothing too commitment heavy.

  12. I said it on the last thread, it’s about time Pokemon is in glorious HD. I just need to find a Switch somewhere. Almost every store in my area is sold out of the console. It already has a ton of games I’m interested in. To restate my last point, I’m feeling Generation 8 for the Switch. Basically, starting on a clean slate for the Nintendo Switch.

    • I’m sure by the time the Switch Pokemon game comes out Switch’s will be more more in stock. In some areas they’re already starting to fill stores again. Plus by that point they may reveal something along the lines of a PS4 slim or something to give more options for people.

Never knew Petilil could learn such good moves so I’ve decided to Evolve it at Lvl.46 so it will learn Leaf Storm and Petal Dance

Would a good set be on one
    Energy Ball
    Giga Drain
    Leaf Storm
    Petal Dance

    • Those are all attacks. What ability does it have? If Own Tempo then Petal Dance, Quiver Dance, Synthesis and ideally Hidden Power Fire, but I’ll assume it doesn’t have that so Sleep Powder and Aromatherapy are options. Go for Giga Drain if not Own Tempo over Petal Dance. You can use Leaf Storm but be careful of the Special Attack Drop. Teeter Dance can be used but only in singles unless you have a partner that can avoid the confusion.

        • Every time pokemon takes a console jump, people are constantly begging for the games to be made available on the previous one. I remember being disappointed when X/Y was announced for 3DS since DSLite was the only console I’d ever owned in my life and I didn’t expect to be getting a 3DS anytime soon… But then I eventually managed to get one and for cheap, though much after XY’s release. Since then I’ve realised that we can’t expect TPC and GameFreak and Nintendo to stagnate for our sake if we want them to make bigger, better and more expansive games than ever before… Perhaps by the time this game is announced or released they’ll have announced a budget switch version like Switch-mini or something that’s only portabe and not home console or something like that… Don’t lose hope! 🙂

          Reply
          • Yeah I got a bit mad when XY was announced for the 3DS because I too have a DS Lite. But I decided that it was time to get a 3DS so I bought it with my Christmas money, along with Animal Crossing New Leaf. I’m just afraid that pokemon may not be as portable as it should be on a home console. I always loved taking my pokemon games wherever I go, I just don’t want to be limited by the Switch’s battery life

          • The Switch’s charger is a USB port, meaning it can basically be plugged anywhere, so the battery isn’t as much of an issue. And tbh, the Switch’s battery isn’t even that bad compared to the 3DS’s. The 3DS lasts almost as long as the Switch does, if only a bit longer by a margin.

        • Apologies, but it happens when new hardware arrives. You eventually have to halt making games for older platforms. The Switch acts as a handheld and by the time this new Pokemon game releases either Late 2018 or 2019, the Switch would have a larger user base. It would be pointless to put the game on the 3DS, as your not providing an incentive for people to move to the Nintendo Switch.

          Reply
        • Yeah cause I probably won’t be getting one until about Christmas at earliest and most likely not than due to my parents not having much money and with 2 games coming this year ($80 in the hole) so I may not be getting one soon

    • Yeah I mean I’m happy for just getting a game… Why all the haters of USUM I’d like to point out that we are getting a main game this year who cares if its not exactly what was wanted we didn’t have to get a game at all, but GF realizes that we want something and they delivered

  19. I will not believe in a main series title for Switch until i see it myself. I just don’t think it’s practicable for a more family-console like thing, which the Switch is in my eyes – i doubt that there’s gonna be more than one Switch per household, which is essential for a main series game imo.
I expect something like PMD vor maybe Colosseum/XD, or something completely new, but i don’t believe in main series.

    Reply
        • Nope, they said “core series” also. They couldn’t have made it any clearer… I think they know what our concerns were after USUM were announced and they’ve directly answered them without so much as giving a title or anything.

          Reply
    • You really think they would troll us all by saying “core RPG” and then put out something not for the main series? That would be pretty cruel. I’m certain they used those terms purposefully so that we knew it would be part of the main series.

I can see what you’re seeing with the one console per household thing, but it’s probably not a huuuuge issue. They should allow for battles between user profiles on the same Switch console though, so that siblings & people who share a console can battle each other.

      Reply
      • Do you have siblings? Because in my experience they do not like to share time on anything. I think it could be a pretty major problem for some families.

        Reply
        • Yeah, but not Nintendo’s problem. They’ll just hope the families will get sick of the arguing and buy another Switch. 😛

          Reply
          • I’d assume they would think more realistically than that, unless they significantly lower the price they aren’t going to sell many more like that and they are probably smart enough to know that. I’m not saying the game won’t be on the switch, just agreeing it is an issue.

    • This is clearly a main series game, they said “Core RPG”, Gamefreak is making it and Colosseum/XD/PMD are NOT main or “core” series games.

  20. I couldn’t be happier after today’s Nintendo E3 conference and a look at what’s to come for the Switch. For the past few years, Microsoft and Sony have been going head-to-head, bringing out the best of their companies, but Nintendo has taken the cake this year. After an underwhelming E3, I’m happy that it was wrapped up today on a high note with some stellar titles being shown off. If anything, I’m looking back wondering what the progress is on Virtual Console, but I have no doubt fans won’t be let down in that regard. Whether or not you guys agree is perfectly okay, but I thought it would be nice to end the day with some positivity and give Nintendo the props they deserve–well-earned at that. 🙂

  22. Guys this is slightly off topic speculation, but has anyone sensed a pattern with the mystery dungeon games? every alternate game always seem to jump a console within its generation… for example, the first mystery dungeon blue rescue team was made for the DS in spite of being a generation behind Diamond and Pearl and in the same generation as RSE… The next game Explorers of Time was also made for the DS. The third series AGAIN jumped a console with Gates to Infinity made the 3DS while still in gen 5 and a generation behind X/Y. PSMD was then developed for the 3DS. Now we have information of a new core series RPG for the switch. I’m pretty sure we’ll only see that in 2019, and that’ll be about time for Generation 8. Also the main series games don’t jump a console within a generation because they always use the same graphics engine (which is why I think we’ll see D/P remakes in 2020 but on the bright side they’ll be with HD gen 8 graphics). Then, considering the pattern, I think it’s very likely that we’ll be seeing a PMD with HD graphics being developed for the Switch by 2018, with Gen 7 pokemon. Also there’s the matter of this quote from way back in February that I had been holding onto up until yesterday’s confirmation of Switch support from Game Freak:

“Pokemon has been about being portable, but now there is the Switch, which is a portable home console, so it has a bigger screen and higher specs than we’re used to,” Ishihara said, as translated by NeoGAF user StreetsAhead. “Apart from main games, we make stuff like Pokkén [Tournament] and [Pokémon Mystery] Dungeon, so I am thinking we should make games that suit the Switch, but at this time I cannot confirm any projects.”

TLDR: I think we can expect a new PMD game for the Switch in 2018 😀

    • That makes sense. Personally, I don’t find the Mystery Dungeon games as fun. It’s kinda boring after playing it extensively, but the stories they tell are interesting. I seriously want to see a new Pokemon Conquest or Pokemon Ranger, but I know that Mystery Dungeon fans would appreciate a title on the Switch.

    • Miltank. We need a reminder of how dangerous that Cow is. I would say that it either gains a fighting type in addition to normal or replaces it. Alola Miltanks are forced to drink more of their own milk due to the hot climate in Alola. The over abundance of the nutrients cause them to become more strong as their milk is known to do. Thus they gain a fighting type. For ability I would say to replace thick fat (that would only make them more warm) with a fighting-type Pixilate.

Sentret could become a Flying or Fire type. Maybe even ground

Bellosom would be a good shot too as a Fire Grass type

and I could see Noctowl getting someting.

      Reply
    • None I hate what Alolan forms done, now everyone everywhere thinks regional variants will happen anywhere for any reason
Usually devoid of sensible reason and not backed up by logic

They’ll say Ponyta becomes a rock type just for living in the mountains or Yanmega turning into a Dragon just because it ate a dragonfruit macaron

My one and only Regional Variant was a Grass/Flying Vileplume because the intense tropical climate increased the size of its petals making them longer and thinner, and they can easily get caught in updrafts, after years of spending time in the air they were more used to being skyward then on the ground (also closer to the sun and could easily spread its pollen) resulting in this change

          • Yet those are fan ideas, a lot of them don’t make sense cause they weren’t meant to be logical

And your idea about already existing one’s how does Sandshrew of all of them make no sense?! Due to its environment being unstable they moved to the closest environment possible being Mt.Lanikila and over the years their body chemistry evolved to help them survive in the new harsh environment’s that were forced upon them due to the inability to migrate long distances to another area of the island

  24. For any Monster Hunter fans out here, I hope you followed that rumour that leaked Monster Hunter XX, Monster Hunter World, and a traditional Switch title. Anyways, Sony bought out Monster Hunter World in Japan, so the game wouldn’t appear on the Nintendo Switch. It’s exclusive to the PS4 in Japan. The decision (likely Capcom made the deal) caused internal strife in the Monster Hunter team. They are developing a traditional Monster Hunter (likely Monster Hunter 5) for the Nintendo Switch, as Monster Hunter World is supposed to appeal to a western audience. I know it’s not Pokemon related, but I thought that I should mention this!

    Reply
    • Its good to follow these things, but its also important to stress that these are still just rumors. We no nothing about a third game, and we shouldn’t assume that their is one until we do know. The last thing we need is Monster Hunter having their own Pokemon Stars issue.

      • I fully understand that. Yet, majority of this rumour has turned out to be true so far. The guy leaked Monster Hunter XX before it was announced. He also predicted Monster Hunter World for the PS4 (being an exclusive to the system, in Japan at least). So, a Switch title should be expected. With any rumour, I do take caution, but a lot of facts have come to light, which follows his post.

        • And your right that it is accurate, but two things to always consider. The first is that its always possible that they had some good information and some less then good information and simply combined the two in the hopes that it would turn out well. The other thing is to take a page from history where the British government arrested and interrogated a teacher who made crosswords for a local paper during world war 2 due to the fact that week after week the crossword answers had everything from key beaches that they were landing on for D-Day, to specific code words that they were using, and they were convinced that this man must be a spy. In reality he was literally had the worst luck in the U.K. and had absolutely no idea what was going on. Don’t get me wrong, the rumors do sound accurate and should be considered as something to watch out for, but you should never assume that its 100% confirmed until you see it announced.

  25. Um… So.

Here are my thoughts about the Pokemon switch future game.

First of all, I can’t wait to find out what the region is based on. That’s always so much fun to find out. Also the fact that it’s all in HD and the world will most likely be absolutely gorgeous is so exciting.

I don’t know if GF will go all open world on us, but I think they will switch up the linear play-through when transferring to the switch.

I am so so so excited to see what kind of art style we will get. I loved the 3ds art style, as it was true to the series.

I’m very intrigued on what GF is gonna do about save files. I wonder if there will be multiple since not many people can own a switch in one house… And I do wonder how they will deal with one screen.

Either way, I know it’s gonna be awesome and I can’t wait for USUM as well. Let’s hope we hear more about the Switch game next year :DD

This is why Hoenn’s Weather Trio are the most terrifying legendary Pokemon ever. They don’t exist in a different dimension like Palkia, Dialga or Giratina, they weren’t allies to humans thousands of years ago like Reshiram and Zekrom, and their existence isn’t kept a secret until the end of the game like Xerneas or Yveltal.

The fact that these things exist on the same earth as people do in the Pokemon universe and that they could wipe out everything without any effort is really terrifying. Hats off to GameFreak for making my favorite legendaries truly the terrifying creatures they deserved to be.

Odyssey is amazing but that’s where it ends. Time to go back to a boring existence until the fall

  32. Guys I finally think I understand Regional Variants of all Alola and now my evidence is revealed

Sandshrew/Sandslash- This one is actually is easy to explain since most likely Sandshrew already lived in Alola, but some type of reaction happened in the desert causing it to be an unsuitable environment for them they moved from the Haina Desert (Where they lived) to Mt.Lanakila and with their environment being altered over generations of time they adapted to harsh Winter/Mountain Climates and took on a much more useful type. As for Steel think about another Ice type that lives up their… Sneasel so I believe this was defense against them to protect from Sneasel’s powerful claws from becoming extinct due to predation by them.

Vulpix/Ninetales- This one has a very similar one to Sandshrew except this time it was due to no room do to its native competition so it moved north to have fewer competition in its area and it could find food up in this environment, but changed to adapt to the cold.

Grimer/Muk- I read into this so apparently Grimer were not introduced they were naturally formed here, but due to not being able to live amongst filth and stench of their usual habitats they instead were born to feed on the garbage around them and to keep them from being to Toxic from its diet they formed crystals for defense against predators that may attack almost as if they grew venomous fangs to protect them selves.

Raichu- Ok many of us thought at first it was just a cheap way to hand out forms, but I now see a logical way of how it happened… So first what is one of Alola’s main qualities… being different! and I believe that maybe they have a more traditional style for making Pancakes and maybe have some more unusal ingredients hidden within them and during evolution Pokemon change, body chemistries, height, sometimes type too, but maybe something in Thunder Stones and about a Raichu’s chemistry have unique qualities that react with the Pancakes in Alola so when a Raichu in Alola eats said Pancakes they react and change them to new Form. But in the games that would be a very hard thing to try and make such stuff so instead they just left the more sciency stuff out and made it just evolve the same to save time and confusion.

Exeggutor- Well its already known, but due to Exeggutor living in the Harshest Sunlight of a region they changed to evolution in its neck.

Marowak- Alright this one has a noice story I believe it was that Marowak’s were already changing in Alola to protect their defenseless baby Cubone’s, but once they discovered the Fire Dance (A tradition in Hawaii and Alola) that they then realized that birds stray far from fire so they developed an ability to create fire themselves to then scare off the enemy Mandibuzz. Which also explains why Cubone didn’t get one due to them being helpless to Mandibuzz and had not developed a way to create fire, yet.

Rattata/Raticate- Were introduced (As tons of islands globally were introduced to Rats and Cats back in the 1800’s) and they took over the cropping fields of Alola (Why Yungoos were introduced to stop them) and Rattata was given Dark due to the trouble or evil they brought with them for stealing the food. And Raticate is based for being obese version of rattata as it caused even more trouble than the smaller Rattata

Geodude Chain- This is obvious I believe that something about the area in which they live was surrounded by a Magnetic field and after being near one for such a long time over the years they grew a magnetic presence in their bodies creating the electric typing, Same for for Gravler and why Golem has a Beard I believe same reason Probopas does it’s made of a Magnetic substance.

Meowth Chain- Well I believe this doesn’t need much explanation another region offered them as gifts to the kings of Alola which pampered them to the breaking point that they became pompous and self important then when the royalty fell the few existent fled to the wild and bred with each other and eventually became widespread. And Persian is based around mutations from inbreeding as some mutations don’t appear till much later on so that is the factor to this Pampered duo.

Diglett/Dugtrio- These are based on Cultivating Gods (almost like the child of the Land Spirits) so they go around and cultivate fields for them which eventually gave Diglett and Duggtrio the god status in alola as for the hair idk, but it may be due to gods did have flowing hair normally so it may be based on that logic.

    So y’all think I’m right?

    Reply
    • Mostly these are explained on the website when they were revealed, but I like most of yours too. Marowak was largely to fight off Grass types in Alola as well. I would add that Rattata is partly due to it becoming nocturnal to avoid Yungoos.
Meowth I would suggest inbreeding is not an explanation GF would like put in but there’s nothing preventing it in-game so…
Diglett is due to volcanic glass and it’s still stupid to me so bleh.

      Reply
    • In order
Sandshrew fled to the north due to volcanic activity, still doesn’t explain how they gained a steel shell and why didn’t it just go to the deserts or the plains

Vulpix came here with humans and moved up north to avoid other Pokemon and changed to this form

Muk and Grimer you half right, yes they were imported to eat waste products but due to this diet this caused the production of a special enzyme in its body which screwed up its metabolism, thus causing unending hunger causing a much more aggressive nature, and those fangs aren’t for defense but just calcified toxins

The whole Raichu is a ginormous crock of crap, only because how could they obtain an abundant source of human made foods that it would permanently alter its genetic code is beyond stupid and even that is stupid because unless common flour eggs sugar and milk unlocks dormant psychic powers is just incredibly stupid

      Exeggutor is correct

This is laughable, they changed because the constant threat of native grass types, moving to volcanic regions, in close union with its friends, this close bond unlocked a sixth sense and resulted in this form

“They’re dark because of the trouble and evil they brought” uhhhh no, they shifted to dark to compensate with Yungoos and Gumshoos diurnal nature, thus thriving at night time and acting much much more aggressive

There is zero information currently recorded on the origin of Alolan Geodude anywhere, I do not support fan interpretations, yes they have magnetic properties but nowhere states how and why they changed or they were just simply born like this but that would be dumb to have multiple forms of the same Pokemon

Mostly right with Meowth and Persian raised by royalty causing this spoiled and rotten behavior, but now plenty of Meowth of this form run around Alola

All kinds of wrong those metallic whiskers are the result of needing a way to scan areas to make sure the place was safe

      Reply
      • I just freakin’ explained the shell! Literally the entire last piece and it made sense grew hard to be more protected from Sneasel

Hey there are other ingredients that can be added to a pancake you know they never state they are normal pancakes, and uhh a lot of amazing stuff can happen in Pokemon so an altered genetic code is not out of the question at all (Remember not a Earth logic works in a world like this)

But the Geodude makes sense actually and if no info is recorded then technically I’m not right or wrong

I did the reasearch on Yungoos the indian Mongoos was brought in to take care of Rats that ate Sugar Cane fields (Literally look up Indian Mongoos and thats 100% Fact) So my logic of type is wrong but story of how it became Yungoos with Rattata is correct

        Reply
        • Where are you possibly getting Sneasle from
And it’s stupid why would they go to the mountains when they have perfectly good habit,

          That’s just so unbelievably stupid

Not the way u worded it, I mean I would’ve believed if you said their mineral diets contained traces amounts of magnetic ore causing their body to develop these properties, but like I said it states this nowhere in any recorded Pokemon lore

I was not discouraging the why, that is 100% correct, but just your comment on their trouble bringing caused the dark type

          Reply
          • Think What is a hunting Pokemon, Sneasel where is the only place in alola they they live Mt.Lanakila! Whats something it can hunt that without a hard enough shell would perish under them? Sandshrew! Also Sandshrew were forced to move and choose this due the most likely reason of inability to migrate to a more stable environment than the one they had to leave behind

and hey they can clone and add DNA strands to create Mewtwo and have Herbs that can heal any and every wound, Then Alola can have a secret ingredient to pancakes that affected Raichu

    • Meh don’t have switch, and I refuse to buy Wii U (Its a pretentious waste of money and I despise them) But I’m sorta hyped cause its Pokemon and if I get Switch Pokken is one of the games I will get

  35. If you could make an open-world Pokemon game, structurally how would you do it? I’ve constantly seen people make the notion of wanting an open-world Pokemon game without fully understand the pros and cons with going open-world. I would love to see some ideas to balance and create uniform gameplay. Personally, I feel that Pokemon is better semi-linear instead of open-world; not all series work well in that front.

    Reply
    • Tbh I think it wouldn’t be true open world until you beat the game, either you’d have barriers or areas to strong for you to proceed

Tbh I think it could work but not without changing the formula a lot

      Reply
    • The barriers (trees, boulders, etc.) could be used strategically to allow for a lot of different ways to travel but certain areas are off limits until you are a certain level. IDK not entirely open then, but maybe when you get the ability to smash boulders, you can choose to go to one of many different routes.

          • What’s honestly therapy gonna do for me, nothing, unless the person fully understands my blight, understands what i do, and how it feels to fight then its a gigantic waste of time energy and money.

          • Their fucking job is to understand. You just have to let them listen to you and ask questions. And if you’re unhappy and angry all the time, why not at least try? If you stick with it then you will be miles better than you are now. The last thing you need is to hurt yourself or others

          • THEY CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW IT IS TO BE ME, THEY DON’T HAVE BILLIONS OF MENTAL AND HEALTH PROBLEMS AND A CONSTANT BAD LUCK STREAK
THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS BEING FUCKING SUCCESSFUL AND SKILLED OTHERWISE ITS JUST A CONSTANT WASTE
I WORK HARD, TRY MY HARDEST AND I STILL LOSE DO YOU KNOW HOW IT FEELS

          • Earthen is always like this. It’s frustrating, but someone needs to tell him to get help. He’s been like this since I met him when X/Y news began. Not getting proper treatment for almost four years is troubling.

          • like it fucking matter i’ll be dead from the massive heart attack i’ll have before i’m thirty

          • I’m quite sure numerous people in life have felt that way. The best form of therapy is talking to someone to illustrate your problems. Bottling up your emotions like this is seriously negative and could quickly affect your health. Take a step away from Splatoon and breath in; for the meanwhile, play something else to calm yourself.

          • I truly can’t I need to get my rank back
I already smashed the door on my head I’m not gonna let that go to waste

          • My therapist isn’t transgender but he still helps me.

You aren’t the only person in the world who has lots of mental and health issues. Therapists talk to these people every day. That is their job. They talk to people in the same place as you. Look at yourself. You are biting yourself. You just need to talk to someone professional. Games are amazing, but they are not going to stop the way you feel. You DESERVE help. Everyone does

          • Cut the woe is me crap. There’s plenty of things you’re good at, and if you do indeed work hard, you can rise up to higher positions in whatever you do with that kind of work ethic. Winning and losing at video games is so miniscule, especially considering you’re not even in tournaments, it’s just for fun with strangers online.

          • I’ve had people I’ve known and bonded with for years suddenly turn on me and all try to convince me to kill myself, there’s a lot worse in life than losing points

          • You need counseling Earthen, even if you say it won’t help there is zero negative outcomes that come out of trying

          • what about the time and money its not like i make alot since my workplace screws me out of a fucking decent wage
they only give me 10 butt fucking hours a week and i work insanely hard in my department

          • It’s not a waste. You are so good at art and writing. If you spent your day improving that instead of playing games, you could make some amazing stuff. I was a fantasy novel from you so fucking bad. I want you to get therapy for you. So you can calm down, love yourself, and make the cool stuff i know you can.

          • What do the points show? Are they bringing you accolades and prize money? Or is it just a number in a video game.

          • THEY SHOW HOW MUCH YOU DONE AND HOW GOOD YOU ARE I WANT PEOPLE TO LOOK AT ME AND SEE I’M AN ACCOMPLISHED GAMER BUT FAT CHANCE NOW

          • You care that much about what strangers you will never meet in a video game think of you? You’re an accomplished gamer regardless of what points may or may not say.

          • HOW IS THAT WHEN IM CONSTANTLY LOSING EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW THAT MAKES ME FEEL

          • Because I’ve raced you in Mario Kart, played you in Smash, and battled you in Pokémon. And in my opinion you are good in all 3 games.

          • I’m just better. There are people better than me too. There will always be people better than you in different aspects of life, but that doesn’t diminish anything about you.

          • It very much does,
The only thing I hate more than losing is knowing somebody is better than me
Because it always sets the bar, and it’s always somebody higher and pathetic shits lower, and I need to be as high as I physically can

          • Well then that’s a personal problem you need to overcome, because it’s illogical. I know there are lots of people better than me in the games I play, but that doesn’t detract from the enjoyment I get out of playing those games.

          • how is it illogical
Winning boosts confidence and promotes a healthy attitude and I’ve been losing for a extremely long time

          • Well I’m always unhealthy I’ve honestly given up on my life at this point
I’m this close to a stroke and or a heart attack
I don’t care if I die or not

I already wrote off playing BOTW and Yooka-Laylee on my things to play before I died

          • What about winning in more important aspects of life instead of focusing so heavily on video games that in the end mean nothing.

          • Because there are no other aspects
You can’t win in drawing or writing and if there was I’d most likely lose

Winning is one of the extremely few things that make me feel better
The other is indulging in my gluttony and one that can’t be said in polite company and I don’t even feel better after that anymore

          • You can aim to be a really good artist, become a great author, or you can succeed at your job and move up, make more money. Winning isn’t as simple as winning or losing a video game.

          • HAVE YOU HAVE THEM LAST WEEKS TO MONTHS?
IDON’T HAVE A FREAKING HAPPY FULFILLED LIFE TO CUSHION THE BLOWS

          • wow. I left PokeJungle for months and I’m surprised your still like this. Not being rude, you need to seek some help. This behavior for a video game is abnormal.

Charizard X does NOT need Flamethrower and Blast Burn, you never have the same type of damaging moves unless it offers priority
Adamant or Jolly with Flare Blitz, Dragon Claw/Outrage, Earthquake Roost/Dragon Dance

Greninja are pretty much always Timd or Modest, Water Shuriken only if the ability is Battle Bond otherwise Scald, Dark Pulse, Extrasensory, Ice Beam

And Decidueye should be Jolly and with Leaf Blade, Spirit Shackle, U-Turn, Sucker Punch/low Sweep

        • I didn’t say it did. I simply mean that having Nintendo give anything that doesn’t require the most minimal effort is better then nothing. It shows that they want to do more with the series, but just need time to think of new ideas for it. Metroid’s not stuck in the constant limbo like F-zero where nobody wants to make games for it simply because its reached a creative dead end where nothing new can be done for the series other then make the same game with shiny graphics, which Indies love to do anyways.

    • Personally I have three guesses in no particular order:
      1. Sinnoh remakes.
      2. Gen 8 games
      3. A Console RPG paced game. By this I simply mean something that’s more fitting to be played on a big tv then on the go. Things like having save points, dungeons that can last an hour+, a game aimed at lasting 40-60 hours. That sort of thing. Maybe treating it as a sort of experiment to see how much people would actually buy the game and enjoy it since really it seems people want pokemon on the switch for better graphics and not much else. It could just be a test to see if people are willing to put their money where their mouth is.

Known as the Gloomdweller Pokémon, the Mythical Pokémon Marshadow conceals itself in the shadows. It never appears before humans, so its very existence is the stuff of myth. Marshadow sinks into the shadows of others, and is able to copy their movements and power.

Marshadow is a very cautious Pokémon. It sinks into shadows and observes what is going on around it in such a way that no one else will notice it. This may be the reason why is so rarely seen.

Among the numerous Pokémon discovered to date, Marshadow is remarkably the first to combine Fighting type and Ghost type. Even regarding its types, Marshadow is an extremely rare Pokémon. Fighting-type Pokémon are usually ill-suited in battle against Psychic-type Pokémon, but now you’ll be able to take advantage of Marshadow’s Ghost type to battle effectively!

          • Think of it this way. Since TPC revealed on E3 that a Pokémon game was in works for the switch would it be more wise for them to announce USUM before E3 and wait a bit before distributing news because they have 150+ days to do so (that is a long time for the third game/sequel). Or should they have revealed after E3 when everyone would have heard of the Pokémon Switch game first. I feel that a change in the order of announcements would affect the consumers perception on USUM.

      • Basically, there’s a Pikachu cap for each generation of the anime

There’s one exclusive to USUM who is based off of Ash’s hat in the newest movie, which is a variation of his old hat

I was unable to watch the trailer until now. After watching it I found it peculiar how they showed Olivia, Wishiwashi, Lurantis, and Alola Marowak (w/ a crown possibly) in succesion. We already know that Olivia is the Kahuna of Akala island, and the way they showed the three Pokémon after would make me think they are the Totem Pokemon we are familiar with. However Salazzle is the Totem Pokemon for the fire trial and not Alola Marowak. If my assumption is true and Alola Marowak is the Totem Pokemon, maybe they are saving Salazzle for someone else. Maybe Ash will catch one. What is everyone’s thoughts on the new opening?

Please stop recommending me this youtube

    Reply
    • It was more about the Youtube ‘algorithim’ and how it leads to what you see on recommended and suggested, and he just used the fidget spinner videos as an example.
He even admitted it was too late to talk about them.
I found it very interesting and informative, especially if you’re looking to build a channel on YouTube.
But that’s just me, I’ve always found some enjoyment in his videos regardless, because of the science/culture/how he got his conclusion than the actual theories themselves. Tangential learning is fun 🙂

      Reply
      • True true but I can’t help but be a little disheartened by it
Plus, it’s game theory, can’t he just make a new channel, culture theory or something? He’s made enough videos for it to qualify

        Reply
        • I will agree that it’s not so much game theory, but it’s his biggest channel so it’ll be easier to reach as much people as possible since he thought everyone should knows this. It’s smart business.
And it’s not so much culture more like youtube (then again you can argue memes and trends and whatnot are product of culture but whatever) and he doesn’t make culture videos besides youtube (that’s gaijin’s job 😉 )

So its more Snakes then Coral Snakes, but the Legendary will be based on one

  106. Apparently Nintendo said they’re going to keep supporting the 3DS beyond 2018. I guess just not with Pokemon? I can’t see them putting out one on the Switch and then downgrading to the 3DS. But, if I’m going to be honest, if you take away Pokemon from the 3DS, that takes away almost all of the appeal of a Nintendo handheld. Pokemon pushes systems.

    Reply
    • I think the 3DS will definitely take the back seat after 2018. The Switch is clearly the next thing for them and since it basically does both home and on the go gaming it’s a no brainer that they’ll move forward with it more so than sticking with the 3DS on the forefront. Pokemon moving to the Switch is proof of that. I imagine they’ll support it much in the way they supported the GBA in that they came out with the GBA mini. Not saying there will be a mini version of the 3DS, but it’ll be that kind of support where it slowly fades into the background while they focus more and more on the Switch. I imagine by 2019/2020 there will be a newer version of the Switch that will be better optimized for what it’s purpose really is. It’ll likely be slighty cheaper and have a better battery. By then the 3DS will have faded into obscurity and everyone will have a Switch of some kind. It’s basically a soft drop to the 3DS if you will.

      Reply
      • It’s nice that they’re not just completely dropping it off like the Wii U, but the move of pokemon to the switch is a clear indication of their plans for both systems. And I honestly completely forgot about the GBA mini lol

        Reply
        • Obviously the reason they dropped the Wii U was because it was such a failure of a system Sure it had some decent games, but at the end of the day the actual system was sub par to say the least. With the 3DS they have tried and true success so it’s not too unexpected for them to want to milk all they can out of it. At this point tho it’s best if they let it fall back and have the Switch be the main focus. Like we both said having Pokemon be moved to the Switch is a huge indicator of what they plan to do in the relative near future. The dropping of the 3DS just won’t happen over night is all. It WILL happen sooner versus later tho lol

          Reply
          • It makes me wonder what they’ll plan on doing beyond the switch..because if they do drop the 3DS eventually, their consoles will probably always have to be handheld hybrids

          • I imagine they’ll go harder into the hybrid thing for a while. For a while I can see them focusing on a single system and refining the features. After that I have no idea lol

    • Ehh, that seems a little short sighted. I mean Their are plenty of high profile games like Ace Attorney, Yoaki Watch, Prof. Layton. and SE RPG’s, anything form Atlus, and even Pokemon Spinoff games. Heck we don’t even have hard confirmation that their making the new switch game a main series game yet, as I’m still willing to bet that it’ll be more paced as a home console rpg then the usual handheld ones that we’ve had. And even then if the switch game doesn’t sell or review well, they might fall back to the 3DS. And by sell not well I mean selling below ten million. Heck they might already be planning for a proper handheld successor for the 3DS to be released in 2018-2019 for all we know.

      Reply
      • Yeah, I mean there’s other stuff, but Pokemon is their best selling titles on the handhelds. Remove those, and they’re going to have to up their marketing to keep it worth keeping it alive. And of course the Switch pokemon game will sell well unless they somehow fuck it up in the design stage

        Reply
        • Oh yeah switch games will always sell, but the question will always be how well. I mean they are going to be priced as home console games, so that already is going to cut out people with a lower budget, and we might find that the games have the same issues back with the previous console games feeling that battles last far too long due to the longer animations, and of course the “better graphics” card can only be played one time with this first game. After that they need to try really hard to convince people that the games worth the money. But we’ll see with time.

          Reply
        • Oh that’s simple. While its not huge in the wast, it is a system seller to a cult following in the west, and its still pretty big in Japan, even if the last game kinda underperformed. Though that game might actually do well-ish in the west for the same reasons. Hack they might be rebooting the series with the upcoming movie, going for a darker take on the story and giving all existing Yokai new forms. That’s generally why. Heck I also realized I didn’t even list fire emblem which depending on how the Switch does could easily make a jump back to the 3DS due to how cheap it is to develop on.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and don’t get upset with me posting youtube videos of dungeon runs and things like that to help relieve my hype. With that I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and leave you with this. Effectively the final part of a documentary about the game, talking about its relaunch and containing a tearful speech from the director/producer saying that he’s sorry that the early access wasn’t working as planned and showing how much he poured his heart into the game. Bless this man who led the charge to save Square Enix. Again though, have a wonderful weekend and enjoy all the post E3 discussion.

Just my 2 cents into the whole Ultra Sun and Ultra moon, and I don’t know if anyone has pointed this out or not yet but I don’t now, nor did I ever think that the box legends are actually solgaleo and Lunala. They are very clearly just new forms created by Necrozma made to look like the old legends made of light. It is after all a pokemon based on light. they’re not fusions, they’re not solgaleo or Lunala, its just necrozma making itself look like them. The real question is why.

EDIT: ok apparently this is common knowledge since its one serebii…. “This Pokémon form has the appearance of a Lunala that has been amalgamed by elements from Necrozma. Its true nature is currently unknown.”

I don’t know why people kept referring to them as new forms for solgaleo and lunala then…

Note 2: Make sure your arms have variety. This allows you to prepare for a broader range of situations. Two guardians or two megatons do not work as well as having a megaton and a guardian
Note 3: if you have mobility, feel free to start defensively in order to scout the for

They’re showing up more and more in stores and you’re bound to find one eventually. If it’s a money thing then just start saving. Do some odd jobs over the summer or find a real job or something. That is assuming you don’t already have a job and just don’t have the money due to bills and other expenses lol

  123. So we’ve sprinkled here and there what we like, but what are everyones top 10 (or less) hopes for Pokemon USUM.
    10. Early accessible Challenge Mode- The games are already pretty challengeing so its at the bottom. But extra challenge wouldnt be too bad.

    9. MEdal System- as a completionist the BW2 Medal system was amazing! I loved it. The challenges in SM werent that cool, so a medal system like BW2 would be great

    8. More Interesting Characters- Most 3rd versions have interesting characters involved that werent in previous, so I hope SM add a lot.

    7. Change in the league- I dont want to have the same order, and the same totems and trainers.Unlike The other third versions theres no year break, so we are pretty familiar with everything.

    6. A bunch of new areas- ike the last point we need to see some new areas, more color, and updated areas.

    5. Improving the story- Done get me wrong, Lillie’s story was awesome, but playing moon made me realize how annoying Lillie is. I like Lillie, but seeing that whole development AGAIN. Cmon something else/new please.

    4. Improve Festival Plaza- This thing is the most Clunky/ Weird/ Confusing thing in all of SM. Not only is it just hard to figure everything out, the Online function SUCKS. They need to add a PC in Plaza, Improve connecting with friends, and just make the facilities in the plaza just a set 10, and you can just update the 10. Rather than finding people, buying it off them, and just all that extra stuff.

    3. More Nonbattling Content- Pokemon SM had Absolutely nothing to do except Battling. I love the non-battling mini games (Poke athelon, Pokemon amie mini games) They just add something other than just battling.

    2. More Alola Forms/ Megas/ New Pokemon- Personally I hope we have new Alola forms. If its an updated region in a parallel universe, then maybe some pokemon ‘adapted’ different causing more alola forms

    1. Batlle Frontier/ Post game content- What did you expect? This is a 3rd version. 3rd versions have better post game content. Especially with Frontier. We NEED it.

      Grown up characters from Sun/Moon
Lillie as the Champion, specializing in Ice types
Hau as a Psychic type gym leader

Basically instead of the trials you beat gyms and after that you just battle Totem pokemon.

        • For Gym and Totems

It would be like Totems are preliminary battle before the gym almost to prove if you can handle them or not (kind of like a Sprout Tower in HGSS deal) then you can battle the gyms

          • We don’t know that. Guzma could be an 18-year old and Plumeria could be 25 (I think she’s 25 and guzma’s 27). Grunts are teens, that’s for sure.

          • No because Guzma and Lusamine were a thing. They are probably close in age. Plus Kukui is probably 30 and he grew up with Guzma. He’s probably in his mid thirties. But Plumeria doesn’t look older than 19

          • Lusamine looks young, Guzma probably didn’t know her real age. Hau thought she’s not much older than he is, Guzma isn’t much smarter than Hau. Kukui could be 30, Guzma could be 27. And Plumeria looks like she’s 25.

          • Where did it say they knew eachother well? They worked together for few scenes, Guzma probably just thought she’s pretty, they didn’t have a serious relationship on screen. Luamine probably lured Guzma with her beauty and got him to help her.

          • Yeah but that was what he though, what she wanted him to think. Really it was just manipulation.

          • Lusamine is said to have been the only one to pay attention to Guzma. I imagine, even if she was purely manipulating him, they got pretty close. They were partners in crime in the story too

    • I believe that 7 and 2 will definitely occur. Five is a little bit more subjective but if they are expecting a good rating for these games that are released only a year after their original takes I think they will try to make 5 happen as well. 1 will occur to some degree. The rest I think are hopeful reaches for me. Especially 10, 8, and 6.

      8. New Islands?
      9. New evil team, Skull was not a threat (and they weren’t really supposed to be) and Aether was almost as bad as Flare

      7. New area’s to explore
      6. Easier Captures, like seriously 90% of Alolan’s new Pokemon had about an average of 10% encounter rates except like 10 of them
      5. A better variety of old Pokemon that actually fit the region (like how Omanyte and Kabuto their fossils they are based on can actually be found in Hawaii, yet they put Sinnoh fossils their, and give us Solrock and Lunatone)
      4. Some more Post game stuff

The only e4 member I didn’t like being there was Olivia. I feel like Hala deserved another chance to battle you and the other 2 hadn’t battled you at all. I think Kiawe should have been there instead tbh.

        Reply
          • I mostly meant from a challengers perspective. We fought Olivia with a much more evolved team, Hala had Crabrawler, Mankey and Makuhita, none of which were that strong. Also Olivia didn’t use Gigalith even though she had a Boldore, Hala had all 3 of his evolved for the E4, so that irked me. Acerola is there because of Royal links I think. Kahili was pretty much a nothing, mentioned by a few people but no impact whatsoever.
