Pokémon Gold & Silver Coming to the Virtual Console

Like Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow, the first Generation II games will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS’ Virtual Console! Pokémon Gold and Silver will be available to (re-)purchase on September 22nd! They will feature wireless trading and battling as well as Pokémon Bank support so that you can transfer Pokémon to the latest games!

  2. I think I’ve finally come to terms with USUM. I’m still not sure where I fully stand on it, but maybe there’s some good stuff that could come of it. I mean I played through both X and Y and can’t say I got anything good out of it other than getting to play with some different Pokemon I really like so being able to play through Alola again may have it’s joys. while I do wish it was it’s own completely different story I’ll at the very least give it a chance. We have 5ish months to learn about the games and see what they bring to the table. I think my not wanting it to be a reg 3rd version may have gotten in the way of things for me and clouded my judgement. even if it generally is the same game it could bring some new stuff………We just have to wait and see I guess lol

    • I’m personally a bit iffy on the fact that USUM borrow the whole fusion concept from B2W2 (even with similar coloring), but I have faith that they will differentiate this story element in some way. Other than that, I see no reason to believe that these games won’t be fantastic. There must be a reason why they chose this path after the success of Sun and Moon, I’m excited to see what comes from it.

      • I have a feeling ti’s not as cut and dry as them recycling the fusion concept. The new forms look more like solgaleo and Lunala are WEARING Necrozma rather than them becoming one. Obviously the end result may mechanically be the same, but I imagine it’ll be different lore wise. As for the games in general I have to say listening to other People talk about the games on YouTube made me feel better. The idea that while it may be the same general story, but with gyms rather than trials or having certain characters be villains rather than heroes and vice versa could be cool. I just hope there’s enough in these games that is different to make playing through the general story again worth while. Make me feel like I;m not spending more money on the same exact game at least lol

  5. I gotta say tho I really do hope they introduce more Alolan forms. It;s such a cool concept and while sure some of the backgrounds for a few of the new forms are suspect (here’s looking at you Raichu) It’s still really cool for them to bring older Pokemon back to life. I really hope they focus on gen 2 this time around. It seems only right given that GS are coming to VC just before.

  8. So to kick start my return to Pokemon, I’ve started Poke Blue. Altho it lacks some of the recent advancements it’s where it all begun. Really excited!
    Still not sure which starter to go for…
    What would you guys pick if you started RB today?
    I’m leaning towards Squirtle!

    • Tbh pages aren’t really a good way of counting paper length (b/c of font, size, spacing, etc.). But most of my essays (in hs/college) are 2000+ words all the time. I’ve had to do some 4000+ word research essays which are pretty much hell. But this semester I’m in an online psych course and I’m typing my notes (for the first time ever too, I’m pen and paper all the way). I’m at 29 pages and ~8900 words. And I’ve only just finished Chapter 3. Out of 16. Kill me pls 🙂

        • Oh yeah I feel that. I was in IB and for my EE (one of the 4000 word research essays), I had to bs so much from my sources. I ended up getting a D (on an A-E scale) from the IB graders. But I knew it was crap and didn’t bother fixing it because I knew I wouldn’t get an E (which would make me not get my diploma)

          This is my last non math/science class, so I never really have to write essays again! Yay for never having to go through this bs again!

  12. Random thought: I want every character to get a crazy redesign in USUM. I have a strong fear they’ll play it safe and make these games too similar to the originals, in more aspects than just the characters, but I hope they go all out.

    Worst case scenario, they just change up a few battles and add some different dialouge. Now I’m reaching, but what if they make an all new soundtrack?

    • Honestly I expect the opposite. I think they’ll change quite a lot in these games. Just as they’re not stupid to be repetitive and surprise us with games, they also know they have to make this game different as much as possible.
      I have high hopes!

        • I feel ya. It was a strange announcement and it left me disappointed too.
          But I’m optimistic that with more info that will change.
          Even Shofu who has some kind of inside info says there are some big surprises in these games!

          • I’m done putting stock in any rumors. I was always skeptical, but people were saying that 4+ sources confirmed stars, and we all know that didn’t happen.

          • These aren’t nust any old rumours. It’s shofu for crying out loud. He says he has inside info and it’s quite obviois where he’s getting it from *cough* someone who’s started workingat nintendo recently *cough*
            So do you think we’ll get any info at E3??

          • The spotlight itself is switch only so no. The treehouse is possible but unlikely

    • Oh there will be a lot more changed than that, this is going to be a Black and White 2 level of change to the game…. just not an actual time difference

      • I really want them to go all out. Maybe the bad story for SM was setting up for this? I want a crazy, involved, and well-written story. SM’s story felt like the cookie cutter with a new coat of paint, and maybe some glitter.

          • Well, I hope. GF doesn’t exactly have the greatest record when it comes to these things. I love GF and Pokemon games, but sometimes it seems like they don’t know exactly what they’re trying to do.

  13. Two more things: idk why, but it bothers me that the same prefix word is used for both games. I’m used to different words lol

    Second thing, it bothers me that the font for “ULTRA” is smaller
