Nintendo Announces the 2DS XL

A new variation of the 2DS console has been announced, this time sporting a bigger screen and similar clam-shell design to its 3DS siblings. While a black and turquoise version will be the only one launching in the US, an orange and white model will be released in Japan and possibly Europe as well.

Unlike the original 2DS it includes a c-stick which makes playing games such as Super Smash Bros. and Monster Hunter easier. It also includes the ability to utilize NFC technology to scan Amiibo figures placed on its lower screen. Its suggested retail price is $149.99 in the US and it will debut on July 28.

Does this tempt anyone? It still lacks 3D functionality, but it certainly looks slick! Such a small bezel almost makes the screens feel larger too.

  11. Seems unnecessary but since you can bleeping turn off the 3DS on them

    But….I would like a new 3DS Xl my trusty Xl is very old and extremely well used (also has tons of grime and dust in the nooks and crannies) but I have my great fear of the system transfer not working the right way

    So yeah I’m just gonna clean my 3DS and just use that until we get the new handheld sensation

  19. Pure self indulgence, but oh my God does this trailer have me so hyped for storm blood. The new c lasses and areas look great, scholar seems to have a beam heal now with its pet, dark knight can cast shields on to other players making it a better off tank, dragoon doesn’t seem to be using Blood of the dragon and has what looks like either an aoe of its final attack or an improved version and the armor looks sexy as hell(Dragoon’s looks almost like Phara’s Anubis skin.) And freaking yojimbo from FF 10 just shows up out of nowhere to help Susanoo. So much hype for the expansion.

    But to the device itself, I”m happy with it. Its good to see that Nintendo’s supporting the 3DS as they said they would, and I do think they should. I’m really hoping that this will be their resting ground with the 1.5 console idea and come E3 we see that a lot if not all 3DS titles coming fall 2017 and on just so happen to be new3DS exclusives, making it a great testing ground for the idea and giving a good cash injection.

          I ran an amazing Scolipede, Mega Metagross combo last gen (Speed Boost passing) and it was godly but not broken back then.

            It’s synergy that fucks everything up, it kills most the tapus, benefits from 3/4 terrains, and most of all, has easy counter teammates for most things that beat it

    Midnight Lycaroc: Works, potential bulky sweeper with sucker punch. Wants drain punch
    Pallosand: Works, anti meta, completely shuts down enemy sandstorm teams
    Incineroar- no success, attacker variant always seems to miss out on kills, is killed very easily by a myriad of threats

    • I’d say its to prevent the Splatoon ranking issue which is as soon as you hit the highest rank, you stop playing. People who are high ranked should be the active players who are fighting to keep it, not those who want to retire on top. My thoughts at least.

  48. Welp, as much as I was looking forward to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, gotta say I’m extremely disappointed so far. It’s all personal reasons though. I’m someone who enjoyed using motion controls. I was worried about the size of the switch controller, which was why I was looking forward to the wheel in hopes it would add some extra grip. It doesn’t. I hold it with a few fingers, very uncomfortable, and the trigger buttons are shit, so I find myself having to be boring and use a classic controller. Other than the method of playing, they nerfed my characters speed stats. I thought I was buying a Mario Kart 8 port that had cool additions like the 2 item slots, pink boosts, and an actual battle mode…there was no need to alter the character stats.

    • This would be my worry with Joy-cons. I have large hands and if they are like the Nunchuk for the Wii remote I’m gonna have a tough time using them. Character nerfs are never fun if you liked those character, they must’ve felt it necessary though.

          • Like I said, it’s all just personal for me and right now the Wii U version is the better version. This game has affected my personal favorite characters to use, along with my favorite kart setups. Not sure why they felt the need to change the stats. I can’t even do motion control play anymore because the controller is way too small, and now using the pro controller, my index finger is locking up constantly on the trigger button. But just because I’m personally not having fun, doesn’t mean others won’t enjoy it.

          • I’m gonna have to try the joy-con grip next, see if that’s easier on my fingers. I’ve enjoyed the pro controller a lot for Zelda, but because in Mario Kart I’m constantly pressing the trigger button, it’s just starting to hurt and really lock up my finger.

          • I don’t like how they did the trigger. Why would you make them actual buttons? With shooters for xbox and ps4, they have a spring so that your fingers feel comfortable and don’t hurt…all they had to do was copy that.

          • What WiiU Kart combinations do you like? I often use the Pirate ship one but that’s just ’cause I like it. The Gold stuff was all disappointing after taking so long to unlock.

          • My typical set up was Pipe Frame + Slick Wheels + Cloud Glider. I also used City Tripper + Slick Wheels + Cloud Glider.

          • Oh yeah cloud glider is my favourite along with the Bowser one. Wheels I tend to like larger ones like the quilted ones I can’t remember the name of or the white wagon wheel ones.

    So this is a bit off topic, but I kind of found it so funny and Tragic that its worth mentioning. A bunch of Japanese Zoo’s were partnering with the studio that Made Kimono Friends since it does promote educational facts about animals, which was to put cut-outs of the animal girls in the cages with the animals. The one though that caught the Internets heart was the penguin Grape-kun, who seemed to obsess over the 2D cutout almost like he was in love with it. Well as it turns out the poor little guy has been separated from it as it seems be become so obsessed with it that he wasn’t eating and spending most of his time with it. The Zoo’s answer to all of this was to simply say that he was spending to much time with his Waifu for his own good.

            The only thing that Pjab kills is Azumarill which is a pretty decent threat but I can tank a non banded Play Rough at full health

          • Poison Jab is personally more valuable cause it hits more stuff… like every Tapu… Hard

          • Well I haven’t done mono in a while because of the Tapu Threat
            But half of them will freaking outspeed or tank the Jab and kill me with Moonblast

    • They’re also suspect testing Monotype so that mean a clean slate, but honestly Ground Mono is dying, Pellipper is getting on my nerves and the ice cream is now a free hailstorm

    • Ehh, its the calm before the E3 storm. Nothing really big is releasing until June at earliest so we’re all in a sort of lul until then. Just spending time to catch up on other games. Like personally I’ve still got to finish persona 5, kingdom hearts 2.5 dragon ball xenoverse 2, and hopefully all of that before Final Fantasy 14’s expansion in June Where I have to hit max level before the two week mark or else I’ll be trapped in the 30+ minute DPS ques for months.

Everyone kinda reveals everything they have planned for the rest of the year around E3, whether their going to be at the event or doing their own thing.

        • To be fair E3 isn’t really the press conferences. It’s the expo that happens at the same time as said conferences. Technically E3 could happen without any of the conferences/press releases. It’s just a coincidence (or not so much) that they happens at the same time

So I’ve been thinking……I think I know what my favorite forms of the Alolan starters are.(known for a while really, but whatever lol) For the base stages I like Litten the most (twas my starter for Sun so duh lol), for secondary stage I like Brionne the most, and for final stage I like Decidueye the most. I find that this is the case for almost every set of starers. I like one of the base stages the most, then another’s mid stage, and finally the last one’s final stage. In this case the more I think about the more I REALLY like Decidueye’s design. I still like Incineroar, but Decidueye is so cool looking. I think I ran into this problem last gen too. I really liked Chespin more than Froakie, but Greninja is so cool lol I really like all three of the starters in all forms this gen, Decidueye just gets the boost for the cool factor lol

      • Incineroar really isn’t THAT bad. I’d say I don’t like Torracat more than Incineroar. I think if they fixed Torracat’s coloring then it would be better. Not a fan of the washed out orange colors they went with instead of sticking with the Litten/Incineroar deep reds and black.

          Dartrix has a different shade of brown comapred to the other 2
          Torracat has that orange you just said
          Brionne has a lighter shade of blue body than the other two.

    • I think I’d agree with your list mostly. I think the only two I’d switch are Sinnoh and Johto. GS/HGSS may have terrible level pacing, but Johto is one of the most beautiful and culturally impressive regions we’ve had.

    • Here’s mine (there really isn’t one I hate):
      1. Sinnoh – Ah the Golden Ages and when I started getting into Pokemon. Lots of battles I did, and it was the times.
      2. Johto – I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the games, as well as enjoyed looking at all the different but unique towns.
      3. Unova – The expansion of the region in B2W2 was great, I loved how there was a lot more to do there.
      4. Alola – It was an exotic region and felt like a fresh start, however it began to feel old after I beat the game.
      5. Kalos – Loved each town/city, but had a lack of story. Then again, I am thankful for it bringing me back into Pokemon.
      6. Hoenn – Good region with lots of Pokemon, but I despised the sea routes so much because of Pelipper and Tentacool.
      7. Kanto – Not a bad region by any means, it’s just it got old after the first 4 generations.

  110. Seriously super excited for Splatoon 2. I loved the first one so much but didn’t play it much after a while just because even starting up the Wii U felt like a chore. I’m for sure going to play a lot more on the Switch and maybe play it with the squad here on Pokejungle? :3 :3

    • I would argue the reason that Crystal was GBC only was because they weren’t sure how things were going to shake out in the future. GS were technically supposed to be the last games in the series so when they released Crystal they probably had no idea of what they wanted out of the series long term. Not saying it can’t happen, but in today’s Nintendo ecosystem I’d say it’s not in their best interest to exclude people unless they are making a full jump to a new system. People always complain about them jumping to the next new system, but that’s just the natural progression. If they make the game for the New 3DS, but exclude people that just have regular 3DS’ then that will alienate people more than just saying the new game(s) is for the Switch. IMO anyway lol
