RUMOR: Nintendo Developing Handheld-Only Switch Mini?

The Nintendo Switch is a hot commodity and has exceeded sales expectations across the board. Bloomberg has published speculation by analysts that a new variation of the home console could remove the docking feature and solely be a handheld gaming device.

Citigroup Inc. […] expect the Kyoto-based company to release a smaller version of the Switch in the fiscal year through March 2019, according to analysts including Minami Munakata, Kota Ezawa and Alicia Yap. — Via Bloomberg

Interesting speculation which may mean a lot for Pokémon fans if a main franchise title does indeed end up on the Nintendo Switch.

If there were a handheld-only version though, would it defeat the purpose of the “Switch”? Weigh in below!

  1. I want to hear your thoughts on this. So I just got very bored yesterday, therefore I decided to just start a Red/Blue story prologue (for whatever reason :p), but with a lot more comedy and humor going for it. It takes place the night before Red chooses his starter. It’s written in a format as if he was doing a journal about his excitement for the next day. I’m not too good as a writer, but I just thought it would be fun to start it up:

    11:39 PM, 7 hours and 21 minutes till my journey beginning.
    March 24, XXXX

    Well… after 14 years, its here. Tomorrow is when everything changes for my life. It’s a big step towards a truly new beginning. The day in which I can finally go out and explore this world. Plus, it’s the day in which I can pick a partner Pokemon.

    Wait, you haven’t heard of what a Pokemon is? Well, all right, I’ll explain. Pokemon, short for Pocket Monsters, are creatures that roam my world. They can change form and “evolve” into other stages of their families. For example, living eggs can turn into a deformed palm tree with coconuts as faces. Yeah, that’s Mother Nature at its finest.

    You confused on that last part? Look man, I’m a 15-year-old teen. I’m shit at descriptions and answers. I can’t even describe the science behind why a fish turns into an Octopus because it puts your head in a Bind. If you really wanted to, go talk to the old guy south of town with the tree name. He’s good at hour-long monologues that want you to go jump into Mt. Ember so bad. Also, he gets you confused as a boy or girl. So if you really want to go through all that, be my guest.

    Anyway, I think this will be refreshing for. I’ve been stuck in a town consisting of only 7 other people, so life’s pretty boring. Can you imagine what that would be like? Only chatting with them for 14 years, all the while that you’re only able to basically talk to anyone else through a computer. That’s the description of a very, forever-alone life right there ladies and gentlemen.

    Plus the guy next door has been a total scumbag to me his entire life, which gives me all the more reason to get the hell outta here.

    Well, should probably hit the sack, honestly I don’t want to oversleep in the morning. It’s this late because I’ve been playing some Cloverwatch before hand. That game is pretty addicting. I’ve stayed up nights playing it, getting some high rankings. I’ve been maining Slakston recently to see how that was like. Loved freaking people out by jumping over buildings and getting some pretty lit team kills. Those Greninji players never stood a chance.

    But I’m getting off-topic here. There’s not much else to say here… so night y’all.

    • I liked the jokes in the third paragraph. I don’t understand the Overwatch references, so I can’t really comment on that. Only thing wrong writing-wise is just some grammar stuff, but really it could just be me nitpicking.
      1. “till my journey beginning.” -> “until my journey begins”, or if you want to be more colloquial, “…’till my journey begins”.
      2. “…its here” -> “…it’s here”.
      3. “Tomorrow is when everything changes for my life” -> This just sounds clumsy. Maybe something like “Tomorrow is when my life completely changes.” Or even better, “My life will change tomorrow (forever?)”.
      4. “The day in which” -> “The day on which” (You would say “on this day…”, not “in this day…”, right?). Same thing for the following sentence.
      5. “I’m shit at descriptions and answers” -> “I’m shit at describing and answering”
      6. “an Octopus” why is octopus capitalized, but fish isn’t? Octopus isn’t a pronoun so it doesn’t need to be capitalized.
      7. “Also, he gets you confused as a boy or girl.” -> This just sounds awkward. Perhaps “He’ll usually never know your gender”, or something like that. You cannot really be “confused as”, but you can be “confused as to”. So you could say “…confused as to whether you are a boy or a girl”, but that’s worse b/c now the sentence is super long.
      8. “be refreshing for.” -> Refreshing for what? Just omit “for”.
      9. “town consisting of” -> I wouldn’t say a town “consists” of people, but rather is populated by people. I would use consist for nonliving objects (consists of 7 buildings, houses, etc.), or maybe just nonhuman.
      10. “Well, should” -> “Well, I should”
      11. “sack, honestly” -> sack; honestly” or “sack. Honestly”
      12. “It’s this late” -> “I’m up this late”. The fact that it’s 3:00 in the morning is because of how we keep track of time, not because you’ve been playing vidya games
      13. “Loved freaking” -> “I loved freaking…” I guess you could opt to not put “I” here, to make it more colloquial. It kind of works without it.

  2. I had a really cool thing happen yesterday where I had a 5-second cameo in a rally video, which is played in front of over 1,000 students. I guess you could say I have the right connections. One of the most interesting and exciting experiences of my life, to be honest. It definitely made me feel validated seeing and hearing people from each of the grades (close friends or not) recognize me 😛 Now I’m being called “America’s next top model”, since that’s what I was parodying. Hope you’re all doing well, things are a bit quiet on the Nintendo side of things. Not for long though…E3 quickly approaches…

      -3D Adventure Action Platformer staring a cast of teens with elemental powers
      – that game’s sequel but involving reconstructing a legendary time traveling sword
      – a tale of a Squire trying to become a great knight (the Red Knight his mentor is voiced by Patrick Warburton)
      – a Beetle Knight, Moth Priest and Bee Mechanic trying to save the world from space bugs
      – and lastly a Small girl is trapped in some kind of Druidic realm and gains Talismans that grant her powers

  10. I really want a region based on Australia. Its incredible how diverse their ecosystem is, it has so much potential to possibly become the best Pokemon region of all time

    Regional variants of Komala and the Geodude+Joltik lines

    Regional variant of Komala, based on a Drop Bear
    Dark-type
    Ability: Intimidate/Arena Trap
    Loses the log and gains a boost in Defence+Atk, but with the sacrifice of lesser speed

    Regional Joltik/Galvantula based on the Redback spiders and Black Widow
    Bug/Dark
    Ability: Tangling Hair/Confusing Poison – direct contact with the Pokemon will Poison and confuse the opponent

    Regional variant of Geodude line, it gains Psychic typing due to the huge amount of energized crystals in the region
    Rock/Psychic
    Ability: Levitate/Forewarn/Telepathy

    Fossils:

    Obdurock, based on a platypus
    Rock/Water
    Ability: Sticky Hold/Lightning Rod

    Other:

    Womborable – based on a wombat
    Normal/Ground

          Komola are literally free meals, they wouldn’t just decide to wake up on their own

            And also it could’ve been bred to wake up, or a change in diet increased energy that woke them up, a change in lifestyle due to habitat loss or change, or they started waking up in response to a change in predator/prey relations

          • It’s also a Pokemon, meaning GameFreak can play fast and loose with the rules just like they made rhinos made of stone and rats that shoot lightning

          • yeah but this case they made a narcoleptic koala that spends its entire life asleep
            so i doubt they’re gonna let this thing shine high

          • You don’t know that, if a change in diet can make Raichu surf and posses telekinetic properties it can sure as hell do something like wake a koala up

          • That is the worst possible argument, we all know A. Raichu was a clear indication of them not giving a fuck and just doing it for the sake of a flashy Hawaiian surfer gimmick

          • they’re should still be some effort, you have to be either stubborn or stupid to realize that not giving A. Raichu a proper reason for its type is sloppy and a complete disregard to the idea of regional variants

          • Get your head out your ass, as long as it’s a kids game and it’s fun for the target audience with a loose enough reason (it was a dietary change, just not specified what) then honestly, what kind of saddo cares so much?

          • really, that’s your response, they go through all this trouble to cook up the regional gimmick a actual thing that can work in the right conditions and you say as long as its a kids game they can do whatever, after the fact they make most of the pokemon logically sound (i say most, some are up for debate)

            They made the rules, they can change them, and they can have fun with them. Alolachu us a dietary change that hasn’t been explained, which makes sense in universe because they still don’t know everything about Pokemon, just like we don’t know everything about animals.

            Alochu doesn’t have an explanation, however, it stills plays within the known rules of the universe. Build a bridge and drag your muddy little ass over it

          • I can and i will i have been saying this for months
            since Pikachu is a popular Pokemon in Alola they imported Pikachu’s to the region in hopes of a population boom, as they bred throughout the region they developed differently, but when exposed to the Thunderstone they had a increased flow of electricity in their brain which unlocked heightened senses and psychic powers. (since the brain is nothing but electrical pulses and psychic complements this chemistry and selective breeding has been scientifically shown to alter the frontal cortex in the brains)

            (mind over matter, they think/believe their in a box)

      -should just make a fancy new spider instead of dragging others down or even just make the regional variant of Ariados i mean come on
      – already has a variant and its way too easy to just keep cramming minerals on it to change it
      – could be better (least it wasn’t poison)

      – i have a kangaroo m’self (Dojoey and Kickaroo and their ability is Lead Feet which grants kicking move bonuses)
      – why would a snake be a fairy? (and Fairy Aura is off limits)
      – where’s the steel coming from might i ask
      – like the name
      -The lyrebird sounds like a regular pokemon, not many legendary attributes
      – that works

  23. Switch Mini is quite interesting idea. Honestly why wouldn’t they just come with a whole new console. I don’t want a switch mini. The button already seem small as is. I don’t like this rumor
