Happy International Women’s Day

Women and girls are an important part of the Pokémon world. After all, they protect us (Officer Jennys) and care for us (Nurse Joys) and also train alongside men. Let’s not forget that professors didn’t even ask for a gender when starting the game until 3 years after the series debuted.

I won’t get too sentimental, but here’s to all the females that help make Pokémon great!

  1. On behalf of all men on earth I apologize to all women for every terrible thing Donald Trump has said……..Keep on keeping on girls!. Haha Really now tho it’s cool PJ is showing appreciation for not only the girls on this site, but the many girl gamers out there that love Pokemon.

  2. A glitch in Sun and Moon allows you to finish Poke Pelago activities in 60 seconds, seriously hope GF doesn’t fix this because it makes things a lot easier

It’s cool to see that PJ is commemorating festivals days that don’t have an event in GO 🙂

    • Would be interesting if they did. Maybe all Pikachu caught today could be female (balancing out all old Pikachu becoming male while they’re at it).

      • Or if the all female pokemon had a better chance of being found?

        • Well yeah as a whole. Not counting race and other problems throughout history. Men as a whole (specifically white men) don’t have the problems that the minorities have

          • I feel like looking at things in such a generalised way isn’t necessarily helpful. I have personally struggled for much of my life and frankly still am, perhaps more than ever. Being expected to be OK because of Gender or Race is actually a problem and why many men don’t speak out when they are struggling.
Also I don’t want to talk about race but it is much more of an issue in America than it is here.

          • I don’t think that’s really the point though? Like of course people are going to struggle and have problems in their life regardless of gender or race or anything else but men haven’t really had to fight for the right to vote or to be treated equally to men. Women still have to fight for their reproductive rights.

Men have had it pretty easy all through out history. Of course they have had hardships, I mean they’re human, but they have always had the rights that women had to fight for

          • Then what should have been said is “No because men as a whole have never had to struggle for rights or equality in a world where men are in control.”, it’s still somewhat inaccurate but as a generalised statement it works better.
Otherwise I agree. Everyone is becoming more equal, not fast enough but it’s alot better than some countries even now.

          • I’ll agree that maybe generalizing it may not be the best as not everyone experiences the same things and has the same privileges regardless of gender/race/etc, but I honestly don’t think men deserve a day of recognition. If you want to give those who have struggled a day that’s coo, but giving a day for all men is also generalizing and there are certainly many men that don’t deserve that kind of praise. As a white male in middle class (America) I can tell you that I’ve never once had to deal with being stereotyped and I appreciate that immensely. I can’t begin to comprehend how it feels for people of minorities of all kinds to be given problems for simply being “different” I know this makes me sound like an asshole (and it certainly does), but it’s hard for some to really understand how another feels without having gone through the same treatment. For that reason it is kind of hard for me to describe my own standing without making me sound like an asshat. Either way my point is that men over all have had it pretty good and when people try to act like they haven’t it’s incredibly disrespectful to those who have. *sigh*…..I never meant to get into something like this….hahaha

          • I don’t think we should have a day for it either. I would also suggest there are many women that don’t deserve that kind of praise. Not treating people as individuals leads to arguments. Simple qualifiers like ‘most’ or ‘many’ would often help to avoid arguments I feel. I also didn’t really want to get into this but nobody is without flaw.

          • *sigh* fair enough……Lets just agree everyone should have equal rights and move on hahaha

      • okay….huh i would’ve thought that was a thing somewhere but whatever i guess women and girls need the appreciation more then men and boys.

  4. Really though, Pokémon has always had such good female characters. Kinda amazing how other game devs struggle with writing a girl but Game Freak does it right. Writing them as characters lol

But yeah I love GF. They do some dumb stuff sometimes but they make good games

  5. What’s everyone’s favourite female NPC’s from Pokemon (not counting proper characters like Gym Leaders etc)?

I like the Battle Girls from ORAS, most of the Ace Trainers, Rangers, the Furisode girls, Hex Maniac and probably others.

  6. What do you think is the best Zelda design?

The Hyrule Warriors one is pretty ace, they really did a great job by taking the best thing out of all the Zelda designs. Screenie here: http://womenwriteaboutcomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Hyrule_Warriors_-_Zelda_Artwork.png

I really like BotW’s design, especially the hair design. In some shots the face looks too round but overall it’s a very nice design, I like her dress too.

Many people will probably say TP, I can agree with that, she really looks like a princess (maybe even queen) but her face looks too serious and I dislike the brown hair.

SS one is nice too, reminds me a bit of a past girlfriend :P.

Toon Zelda is cute, like the Nendoroid they made out of here.

OoT is one of the worst designs, she really looks like a nun.

  8. In honor of women’s day, I’d like to share my favorite female pokemon characters:
    1) Misty. Where to start? She was always so tough in the anime and put stupid Ash in his place.
She was fiery, but compassionate when she wanted to be.

    2) Cynthia. She’s so strong and cool! Her theme is awesome and her team is incredible.

    3) Lillie. I was not expecting her to come along and steal the show in SM. Her arc was really awesome and I love how she stood up to her mom, but still wanted to save her. I hope she comes back in future titles

    4) Karen. Our first dark type trainer. She has a cool design and some sage advice. *cough* I ship her and Nanu *cough*

    5) Elesa. Her design and character are super cool. She has a nice little role in the story. She’s definitely a standout of the gym leaders in BW.
    http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/4/40/Black_2_White_2_Elesa.png/240px-Black_2_White_2_Elesa.png

    6) Green. It’s really cool they decided to include her in the manga, and she was a fun antagonist for a while. She’s also really clever in a way that makes her battles way more interesting than most.

    7) Yellow. I’m gonna be honest, I was shook when it was revealed that she was a girl! I had no idea. She’s really caring toward pokemon and her team up with Green to find Red made for a cool story. She’s also got magic powerssss!

  9. Zelda BotW arrived yesterday! I’ve been playing it so much and I love it. It’s also been challenging, which is simultaneously refreshing and frustrating.

    • Difficulty drops off after a while though. There are still some difficulty spikes, but I haven’t died in the last five hours I played. Feels good to get revenge on enemies that kicked your ass in the first hours of the game.

      • Aww I kind of wanted it to stay hard. I suppose since there’s no set path, everything has to be more or less the same difficulty.
I just got done beating the Divine Beast Vah Ruta. Nearly kicked my butt b/c I didn’t have nearly enough arrows, food, and only had 4 hearts

        • Don’t worry, there are still tough fights if you want to go in head first. Some enemies will still outclass you and the best weapons in the game are not much more powerful than what you can find in the midgame. You just get better at avoiding fights, finding alternate paths, using your wit to tackle a group of enemies… The skills you pick up from defeating beasts also help, Mipha’s Grace is one of the main reasons I hardly die anymore. That and because I pick up like 10 fairies each time I go to the Fairy Fountain. Only annoying enemies are the guardians, it is hard to run away from them if you are in no need for a fight.

    • Man, I play so much everyday and I still feel like you are way ahead of me. How many shrines have you done already? I’m now on my way to Goron City, just got the Master Sword so I can take on the dungeon bosses and going to beat all four dungeon bosses before I go retrieve all my memories . After that it’s big boss time I guess :D!
