Walking Partner Pokémon DLC – Would You Pay?

Many Pokémon fans have loved the idea of their favorite partner following them, free from their Pokéball, while they explore the region of the game. In the latest games, Pokémon Sun and Moon, we got to explore one of the most unique environments in the entire series, but we did so without the aid of our Pokémon until it was time to call them for battle or we called a rental Uber-mon to carry us around.

It is definitely something that I’ve missed since the remakes of Gold and Silver; HeartGold and SoulSilver really forced you to bond with whatever Pokémon was training and you could feel free of the restrictions of almost all other games that didn’t let you keep your favorite monster right by your side.

Just so happens that walking and running animations for all Pokémon on the over-world are already contained in Pokémon Sun & Moon, but will we ever see them?

Hypothetically: If a DLC patch was announced to allow you to have a Pokémon follow you around while walking, would it be worth money? And if so, how much?

  1. While the animations for both running and walking are really cool, personally I can live without…So No I would not pay for DLC to enable this feature.

Also for the record personally I think the running and walking animations were intended for something other than the ‘walking’ with Pokemon feature.

        • I mean the general assumption is that Stars is more or less going to be a third game to Sun and Moon, which in of itself is a bit questionable. At the same time these animations could be used for almost anything pokemon related. Spinoff games, Pokemon Statium-esk games, future features for pokemon go.

Heck and that’s even assuming that these animation’s weren’t a feature cut like how Skin-ship in Fire Emblem Fates almost was. I’m just being my openly skeptical self as to what Stars might be, rather then assuming a rumor from a source with a good record is confirmed fact.

What would make a better Dousing Pokemon

A Claydol that floats above your head and has three speeds of spinning indicating a hidden item

  5. Who here’s name is GRIFFIN? I’d like a word with you about my Togekiss named Hershy with Future Sight, Air Slash, Aura Sphere, Extreme Speed, Serious, Hustle lvl 59.

        • Garchomp works pretty well as an offensive Fast Physical Sweeper, especially when you have Rough Skin and do what shofu did and added on a Firium Z with Fire Fang. It’s pretty unexpected and works. Just set up Swords Dance first and it’ll help you so much.
Or if you prefer to use a Gen 7 Mon, I’d recommend Alolan Sandslash with Focus Sash, Hail, Adamant, and Slush Rush. It’s very unexpected and throws off the opponent.

  6. I would honestly be kind of pissed if they offered this as DLC. They said they only release complete games and that DLC will never be in the picture. This is something that should be included in game.

      • It’s not that I’m against DLC…I’ve bought a good share of it, but they said they would never do it, so I expect them to be true to their word. I would probably buy it anyway though, although I definitely think they should avoid doing DLC at all costs. Pokemon games aren’t super huge on content, I think adding DLC would be bad for their brand. People might think they’re withholding content.

    • I don’t think I like this. It’s a little confusing. I’m not sure if it’s busy or if the screen is just oddly organized.

  7. Yeah sure whatever. I can’t imagine dlc from GameFreak would be all that expensive so it wouldn’t be much of a problem. I’d pay for dlc in general given the right game and content so sure. I already pay the $5 a year for Bank so another $5 more wouldn’t…..break the bank……Ugh…sorry….ANYWAY yeah sure dlc is fine. People like to complain about dlc, but if games didn’t have it people would complain just as much.Sometimes developers just don’t have the time or resources to do extra stuff. Sometimes even they have ideas after the games come out. So when people complain about dlc meaning they’re withholding stuff it’s kind of dumb. That may be the case sometimes, but not every time. lol

  8. After a pain staking 2 and a half hours, I finally have a Syncronzier for all 25 natures. Tbh I got a Timid Inner Focus Abra so stuck an Everstone on it and got my Timid Sync from that.
I had 3 eggs leftover from the Alakazam I had in there, the last of the three was Quirky, the actual last nature I needed (lucky I know)!

    Leads Pheromosa vs my Comfey
    Easy win
    First turn ice beam freeze
Does not thaw out and dies after multiple attacks

    • That sucks, I really don’t like it when people use Pheromosa, it’s very overused.
BRW, I do have a quick question about Comfey: what’s the set you usually use? I’ve been having a hard time making one for it.

  10. I would love to see this feature again.. but not as a DLC though. Game Freak hasn’t done a DLC in the past, so it’s not likely for it to happen. Yet I’m pretty adamant that this will be in Stars.

  11. Alolan Sandslash is literally my favorite Pokemon to use on Showdown. Use that Focus Sash to survive hits, set up hail, and then proceed to decimate half the opponent’s team. It’s pretty much the same as a regular Sandslash with Sand Rush, but I still love using it.

  14. I thought a little bit about this and I’m considering that it’s data to be used in the upcoming Diamond and Pearl remakes. They did introduce walking Pokemon in those games in Amity Square, after all. It wouldn’t surprise me if they took it a step further in the remakes. Consider how Mega Latios and Latias were in XY code.

  16. Hate to be that guy, but does anyone have a spare king’s rock? That’s all I need to finish my first team, and I really really suck at the battle tree. I can’t get past a streak of three.

  17. Hey Earthen, or anyone around. What items do you personally like to run on an Excadrill? Kinda working on a mono steel team for a doubles format, so generally I’m trying to avoid choice items.

    Reply
      • Mostly sweeper. Since it doubles in Mono steel, I can’t really run E-quake, so for a move pool I’m playing around with Drill run, Smart strike, Rockslide and protect.

        Reply
        • Hmmmm that honestly the only thing you truly can do but maybe replace Protect with Rapid Spin since Excadrill is a solid rapid spinner

          Reply
          • Well the do whatever
Because Excadrill is a extremely versatile Pokemon that can be a true nightmare with a Sandstorm at its back

  18. Does anyone have a Snow Warning Vulpix or a Regenerator Mareanie? I’m offering… an adamant Mimikyu, an Eevee that has Wish, and any Moon exclusives… I know, it’s looking rough but I’d really appreciate it ❤

  19. Sure i would pay for it, but not 5 DOLLARS (mostly because I’m 12 and money is tight right now)!! And if it was 5 dollars, would it be all Pokemon or some specific Pokemon such as only gen 4 Pokemon or just grass types per payment. I would pay if it made is so that all Pokemon could follow me.

  21. One thing I’ll never get… Why in the Hell is Sneasel always a late, super late, or Post Game but still very rare then too in every game I can understand it being Ice would be a late game but come on why is it so hard to get?!

    Reply
  22. Would I pay for this? Of course. But I really dont think this is walking with pokemon. It’s just the pokemon are all going at different speeds, so I dont know how the slow ones will follow you. Not only they why would they include mega evolutions too? You cant use megas outside of battle. I truly think it’s for something else

    • Rethinking about it. I dont think I would pay more than $2 dollars though. Maybe if I hadnt beat my game already, but since I have already beat it, there’s no point

  24. Im sure we all strugggled with Trial Lurantis and Mimikyu. Kahili and Acerola E4 were super hard, but was any Island Kahuna hard? If so which one and why?
Personally I thought Hapu was the hardest. Her ground types countered my pokemon, and her mudsdale was just so strong.
Nanu was also very hard, but more because his battle came out of no where, so I was not prepared in the slightest.

  26. Sad thought: we’re getting the last episode of Generations tomorrow 🙁 I hope these mini episodes were just test runs to see if a full series like this would do well enough. If so, longer episodes are bound to happen at some point! Maybe that’s just wishful thinking though.

  29. I’d rather wait for it to be in the rumored Switch version. It’d be meaningless to me now, story’s over. Not gonna pay money for an aesthetic when the majority of my time will be spent hatching eggs. Now more trainers in the Battle Tree, that’s something I’d consider paying for. The lack of returning trainers is a big disappointment. Even more ridiculous is the fact some are exclusive to Sun or Moon.

  33. Well even though I’d rather not have a DLC when it comes to Pokemon games myself I won’t be upset if they did either, it wouldn’t be the first and I doubt it’ll be the last time I buy a DLC for a game, so if it were to happen then yes I’d still buy it of course. I just think this would be a perfect feature to add for the next game or any future Pokemon game since a lot of people most likely already played through Sun&Moon it doesn’t really make sense to do it this late but if it ended up becoming a DLC instead then i’d still be happy because we would get to walk with Pokemon again and Id love to walk with my Pokemon again, walking with Pokemon has been one of my favorite things when it was introduced to the series so if they did decide to go this route then I won’t mind too much 🙂 when it comes to DLC I’m sure there would be a reason behind it but that’s me though, I can understand why people wouldn’t want it as well xD

  34. Did anyone just think that this is the first feature of Gen 4 remakes? If you think about it Gen 4 was the last time you could do it with a remake of its own. I think it will be in Diamond and Pearl remakes!!!
