    • It will. It’s been confirmed by Tsunekazu Ishihara, the CEO of TPC, that there will be Pokemon games for the switch. And apparently within six months it will get a game made BY GAME FREAK (I.e. Main series Pokemon). I can’t confirm the latter though.

  1. I was never excited for this, never really cared, thought people were greatly exaggerating what this new console represented… But after this, I am happy to say I was wrong. This isn’t just setting a new standard for gaming, but for tech in general!

  2. So we have a new Mario and Mario Kart, Splatoon 2, Breath of the Wild (obviously), Skyrim, and NBA. I’m ready to make the Switch.

  3. Everyone’s excited for Nintendo Switch and I’m just sitting here thinking f**k…Pokémon on 1 screen again…

Truthfully tho I am excited and can’t wait to buy it. It really is just take your console out with you.

    • Skyrim already steals people’s lives, but taking it on the go? Man, now they just need to put it on VR to complete Bethesda’s evil scheme

  4. The question is, when can I preorder and start making payments? That way I won’t have to shell out $400 or whatever all at once. (Note how the question is NOT if I’ll be getting this. Of course I’ll be getting this!)

  5. People shit on the N Switch because the tablet design failed in the WiiU, but lets be real. Which is superior? I feel like Nintendo released the WiiU as a beta to fix everything wrong with it. Just like X an Y. Personally, I’m super excited for that new Mario. Imagine a Pokemon or Pikmin game on that OWO.

    • The problem is the GamePad feels like an afterthought and served so much less than it could’ve

The two screens here are actually being implemented and used it seems

      • True. Coming from the owner of a WiiU, I was impressed by the idea, but felt it could go further. Is this the future of handheld gaming? Because with this, the console market just got rocked. Imagine GTA IV on this… The possibilities are endless ^^

    • People shit on the N Switch? Have you looked at the comment section of their Facebook posts?? People are really pumped for it! And believe me – their comment sections are usually very negative.

  6. I really hope this is as great as they say it is. The over all design seems pretty good, but as far as what’s under the hood is concerned I hope its decently powerful……We can’t have another Wii U……I know it won’t be as strong as the PS4 and Xbone, but close will do it for me lol

  7. if this system can handle 2k17 on a handheld screen. honestly i can see amazing graphics coming from this system alone

  8. Alright I got to start working
This time I’m going to be a savvy gamer and find out as soon as possible to purchase and reserve one because it looks freaking amazing

  9. Seems as though we might not get a handheld from Nintendo for a long time. This is the best of both worlds. It’s up for debate whether Pokémon would come to the Switch.

    Reply
        • Yeah why wouldn’t they? I honestly see Sun and Moon being the last handheld games tbh. The whole game seems to be a celebration of 20 years of Pokemon. Perhaps the gen 4 remakes might be on 3DS, but I see gen 8 and onward on Switch.

        • Tsunekazu Ishihara has said they’re making a game for the Switch, and there was a rumour that Game Freak was making a game to be released within six months of the Switch being released

          Reply
          • Closer. Six months from March is September… I can’t confirm the part about that though, but there are definitely Pokemon games coming for it.

          • Even better, But my reply contradicts my below comment. I could see the gen 4 remakes being on 3DS and the next mainline (presumably gen 8) game on Switch.

  10. Seeing Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon, I wonder if Sun and Moon would get Switch ports. I’d prefer not, because then features will possibly be witheld from the 3DS versions.

  11. My wish would be that you could play 3DS games on it… I’d pre order it today.. Pokemon Sun and Moon on he big screen? yes, please.

  12. Some questions I have are how do they keep the cost down of games when using discs would probably be a better way for space than carts are and how they plan to do the switching from tv to handheld. Will the cartridge always go into the pad or will there be a need to stop the games and put it in the pad? they make it seem like you won’t need to stop the game, but who knows.

  13. I’ll wait to see new games that’ll come out on this. I don’t want to get it if there are no new interesting games (which is a low possibility)

  14. Also Game cards confirmed
My only problem is the durability because that screen looks very frail and bendable with my big fat strong bear paws
Also if people do take it on the go they MUST invent a savvy carrying case

  15. Just the thought of a main series Pokémon game on the big screen fills me with glee 🙂 Or even a Mystery Dungeon title would be pretty cool.

  16. Shit son. I wonder what GameFreak will do. I could see any game even Sinnoh remakes being on Switch but keeping SuMo’s style until Gen 8

  17. AHHH I CANT TAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is more thank I can take. This is better than what I imagined. Like, OMG. And all the 3rd part support. This is literally everything the Wii U failed at and SWITCHed it around and is now its strong points. Like, just imagine all of the possibilities with this. AND AGAIN UNITY IS SUPPORTING IT!!!!! If they can make the process of putting games on the eShop as easy as Steam this is going to be absolutely perfect. Like as a hobbyist developer, I could get a freaking game on a Nintendo system. That idea is too much

  19. I like it so far! It’s using Nvidia tech based on GeForce. I love the idea of console and handheld gaming. Nintendo has already listed a lot of support. I hope the dock boosts the power. The name, design, and slogan I totally love!

    • If there’s a slot for CD’s on the dock for the Switch then it might but i am not sure. Nintendo has said that they don’t want the Switch to replace the Wii U or their Mobile Consoles. But it does look like the switch could play 3/DS games.

      • Yeah, especially in the moment where the guy inserts something into the handheld part. It looked to be a 3DS sized cartridge. But it didn’t look white so *Shrugs*

I wonder if it will only play Switch games, or be able to play both Wii U and 3DS titles.
If not, that's totally fine, but I'm definitely interested in getting one, especially as it's both console and handheld, and definitely if the potential for future Pokemon titles go towards the Switch 😀

  25. rn im seeing alot of positive reception of the switch, but u still have those negativity people who think it will end up like the wii u

        • Certainly did when it came to the DS/3DS/2DS/N3DS.
Too many times I’ve heard people saying a 2DS is just a DS and that a DS can play 3DS games.

          Reply
          • Yeah so many people can’t tell the difference

It’s kinda sad, I’ve heard more people understand the 3DS is a separate console due to having a number but most people around here think the Wii U is just an upgrade

          • That logic makes no sense. So a less powerful system can play games that require more powerful hardware that also needs more buttons. O. That actually kind of amazes me that people thought that a DS could play 3DS games

          • You hear a lot, one lady bought a Mario Amiibo for skylanders, it’s a mix of idiots and misunderstandings
            “Mum can I have a New 3DS”
So she buys him a New 3DS, but not a NEW 3DS, just a brand new original one.

    • Ok ok the Wii U already had warning signs
      -No 3rd party support
      -Terrible launch line up
-No one knew what the thing was on announcement
      -Weak advertising
      – Not powerful enough for most AAA games

      Reply
      • For fun:
-Already has great 3rd party support
-Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Assassin’s Creed, Just Dance 4, Skyrim etc.
-Obvious what is just from watching the video
-Too early to tell but based on this trailer Nintendo is probably going to do great
-It’s a handheld running skyrim. Dis gon be pretty powerful

        • You think that just because it is new means that It will have no weakness. You better think again. When the Wii U came out I decded to take my time conisdering whether or not to buy the game. As new titles came out and I learned about amiibo, I decided to give myself to the system. I was happy to have obtained the system. I am not ready to see the Wii U fall so soon. Why can’t they produce it until 2020?! Besides, I thought that Tank! Tank! Tank! was a good title by Namco Ltd. I am currenty doing some research on the pros and cons of Nintendo Switch.

          Reply
          • Because the Wii U will of been out for over four years by the time the Switch comes out

Thats like the average life span of a console

          • Dude, the Wii managed to exist for seven years. I wanted to believe that the Wii U would las as long as that. If production were to stop in March 2018, there should be at least one company to blame for its betrayal and sidetracking…Konami!

          • The Wii also had tremendous 3rd party support and was easily accessible. It wasn’t just dedicated gamers playing it anymore. Your grandma could play, your entire family could play, your friends could play. Anyone could pick it up and understand it imminently. Wii U was kind of the opposite effect

          • Ok here is the thing. The Wii U was practically dead after two years. By then, any 3rd parties giving it the time of day were beginning to leave. It was basically a Smash Bros and Zelda machine. The Wii U had a great line up but it wasn’t enough to grab consumers. The Switch was a must have for Nintendo to avoid a world of hurt trying to keep the Wii U going. It was dead.

          • I’m looking at cynically because this is a huge game changer for the industry. I mean, I wanna make games so I follow this stuff because it is important. It isn’t criticism to say the Wii U is dead. It is. It has pretty much nothing coming to it. Most of its life span was kept up by 1st party (which were pretty good for the most part) and it was going to sink. The Switch is a life saver for Nintendo.

          • I’d say it’s less the Wii U died and then the Switch is coming out and more they were weaning us off the Wii U for the switch to the Switch

          • I’d like to create video games too, but the thing is that there are still going to be flaws to this new system. And honestly, I though that when Iwata first announced it they have just started working on the system. A great system would take more that just two years to develop. If they were first announcing a new system they should at least say that it is already in the works. And besides, I am actually majoring in biology.

          • Ok yes it will have flaws but not like the Wii U. In retrospect, the Wii U was a disaster. I love its games but everything surrounding it was bad. Nobody knew what the thing was and there were no games on it too hook people in early.

They didn’t spend two years making this thing. They just announced it two years ago. And I don’t see what you majoring in biology has to do with this?

          • Well, number one, I am sorry that I brought biology up. I am just as educated about art as you are. And number two, I never thought of the Wii U as a disaster. Whenever I read that the console had problems, I would hope for software releases that would make more utilization of the Game Pad’s functions. Light gun games wouldn’t hurt and I kept on making suggestions on Miiverse that they would make more shooters. I believed that, after Star Fox Zero came out, I had my hopes up about many companies such as Namco, Sega, Konami, and even Capcom creating games in that genre (meaning it would support the Wii Zapper). If it the Wii U were dead, then I would at least swear/curse Konami’s name, even soil it if necessary, because they wasted their time on f****** Yu-Gi-Oh cards. Konami is a traitor to all gamers! Some of its employees would be better off working at Nintendo to support the ideas suggested by fans. That would granted them a lot more room to create some fantastic ideas for games.

          • This is fun
            1. I wasn’t arguing that I know more about art and even then, what does Biology have to do with art? Plus the Wii U failing isn’t art. It isn’t subjective. It is just a fact that it died quickly.

2.Suggestions on MiiVerse literally do nothing. I’m trying to be respectful, but do you really think that someone at Nintendo is going to see a post on miiverse saying “ey make a shooter” then just go “SHIGERU GET OVER HERE WE GOTTA MAKE THIS GAME” Like, no.

3.Why are you bringing Konami into this. I mean #Fuckonami and all but like, they have nothing to do with Nintendo in this argument. I didn’t know about this Yu-Gi-Oh game but you know that there are different parts of Konami making different games right? It isn’t thousands of people in the same company working on only one game at a time.

            4. The problem with taking game ideas from fans is that most fans don’t know anything about game development. Ask someone on the street for a game idea and you will probably get a cliche story idea that takes place in a MMORPG. They don’t know how to properly design and prototype mechanics and they often dont have a sense of scope. Plus even if they did, by the time development would be over (2-3 years in development most likely) the Wii U would be in the same place it is now

          • Look I said that I brought up biology by mistake. And with a comment like that, how would I believe that you want to make video games. You just like to spit in the face of others, don’t you? Why did you say “this is fun”? I think you are just trying to do this on purpose.

          • I’m not spitting in anyone’s face. I’m stating objective facts. I’ve gotten my hands dirty and made a couple small games. I know how hard it is. Actually no I don’t it is harder than I know.

Ok yeah maybe I shouldn’t have said “this is fun” but I just get enjoyment out of unstoppable force meets an immovable object situations like this.

You shouldn’t assume someone who is disagreeing with you is being malicious. I love games and I want more people to play and make them, but like, you cant just take someone’s undeveloped idea and spit it out as a full game in 5 months. Well you can, but that’s why we have Steam Greenlight *buh dum tiss*

          • What? *raspberry and laughter* You made a couple of small games? Give me a break. Even if I never made a gmae in my entire life, I ALWAYS know how hard it is by watching others. Take this key element in mind when creating games: “creativity” What makes you think that I would expect them to create a game in 5 months? Wishing and expecting are two different things. Until I’m confident that I can make a change, I just let the world decide for itself and hold on to thoes ideas until Nintendo gets the staff to review the ideas from fans, or when Nintendo gets a Kickstarter project.

          • I don’t think you understand how this works. Making a game and watching someone making a game are two different things. And like, yeah creativity is important but so is realism. A game has to have a realistic sense of scope. My first project ever was a huge rogue like dungeon crawler that spanned hundreds of floors with tons of unique monsters and bosses. And hell no I couldn’t do that. I learned it the hard way and have sense adjusted my projects to a more realistic scope. Just look at No Man’s Sky if you want an example of an unrealistic sense of scope gone wrong. The thing is though, people don’t think critically about their ideas and make them realistic or viable for a game.

Back in 6th grade my friend had this idea where a boy wakes up with magical powers in a kingdom. That was his whole idea. That was it. How do you make a game out of that? It would just be another forgettable, probably buggy JRPG that no one played. You cant just come up with ideas like you can with books or movies. Video Games are a whole other beast.

And I say that the game would be released in 5 months because if it was released any later, it wouldn’t help the system. Let’s say Nintendo took a fan idea and in 2 1/2 years it would be released. Who would buy that? Probably the person who came up with the idea and game reviewers. That is because the Wii U has nothing going for it,.

Also I’m genuinely curious how and what you will change. Like, there is logic behind this stuff. There are reasons these companies do what they do. In the departments you are complaining about, there isnt much one person can do about it

          • Hey! Nintendo isn’t always about realism! And besides, I understand logic pretty well. The good reason why Nintendo would not actually submit ideas, even if they wanted to, is that they simply do not have the staff members to review them. Try looking it up. Plus, it is not just me. There are plenty of enthusiatic gamers who would have such ideas. Some to bring back genres in which we missed so much of and others to point out at what is missing in the games they currently play.

          • Ok but Nintendo is a business. Ignoring the fact that 97% of fan ideas are probably pretty mundane and undeveloped, you just said that they dont have the staff to review them. And they shouldn’t. Nintendo is filled with creative people with experience in games. Trust me, they don’t have a hard time coming up with game ideas.

          • Well, I do not expect them to use my ideas. I thought that I would be my way of inspiring them and telling them what games the consoles are missing.

  26. So with the Switch being both a handheld and regular tv console I wonder how long the 3DS will stick around. It’s still selling decently as it is so it’s not like the Wii U where they need to cut their losses. I imagine they’ll give it at least another half a year, maybe a full year, and then drop it.

    Reply
      • Idk….I feel like SuMo will be the last games on the 3ds. This might be the first time GF split a gen between consoles lol

        Reply
        • Or go straight onto a new gen, they haven’t even started development on the next game, unlike when B2/W2/X/Y/S/M were developed overlapping.

          Reply
          • That’s true. It’s an unpopular theory, but one could guess that maybe gen 7 is the first gen to feature only one set of games.

          • I’d say if they feel complete, but X/Y didn’t feel complete and they got no 3rd version, so very possible at this stage

  27. Unless it gets a successor, the Nintendo 3DS is definitely sticking around.
Nintendo has a stranglehold on the handheld market and attempting to grip the mobile market.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch is about to give the console market a leglock from the shadow realm. They ain’t playing around!

    Reply
    • I think you mean successor as the 3DS predecessor was the regular ds. Anyway I’d argue that the Switch IS the successor to both the regular consoles and handheld. Otherwise it’d just be a tv console and not have portable functions. The 3DS as great as it is, is getting old and they need to swap soon. the Switch is likely their answer to that

  29. I doubted Nintendo, but I’m glad they proved me wrong. The switch looks amazing, It looks like it’ have an amazing launch line up with zelda, Mario and splatoon. All Nintendo needs to do now is advertise this thing properly and make sure the 3rd parties don’t ditch it like they Did the WiiU

    • You know, poeple are entitled to their concerns. I think the real problem is that they do not have the staff to accept the ideas of dedicated gamers. I am only saying this out of my concern for Nintendo, and I love Nintendo as if the company is my personal God of art. That was what I have been seeeing in video games since I was at least six…art.

  32. Something that concerns me greatly: I hope you can buy a second handlend part individually. My brother and I each get our own handheld, and I know most families do, so it’d suck if to get another handheld part you had to buy another console part. I can’t be the only one who’s worried about this, it’d be horrible if I had to share the handheld part with my brother.

    Reply
      • I know so many people who would be p*ssed if you couldn’t. Me included, this looks great, but if you couldn’t individually buy another handheld part, sharing that with my brother would ruin alot of the experience for me.

    • The console and handheld are the same thing, what you think is a console part appears to be a charger and what allows connectivity to a TV.

      Reply
      • So what, nintendo is just abandoning all the families with more than one sibiling who each get their own handheld? This is a majority of the people I’d assume.

        • No I’m assuming they’re expecting each sibling to get a separate one because it’s literally one device that has an adapter to charge it and play it on TV

          Reply
        • Time to whip out some copy and paste action!
Here’s my preliminary list of reasons, it’s not finished yet:
          1. Ash-Greninja is nowhere to be found in the datamine, meaning it’s stored somewhere else. Before you say “these are pokedex stills, of course it isn’t there”, Mimikyu and Wishwashi’s form changes are in there, so it makes no logical sense to not include Greninja’s form change.
          2. The 6 (counting the two after Mimikyu as one because of form changes) missing models cannot be totems. Firstly, these are pokedex stills, and if totems are just pokemon with an orange aura with no real unique features, they would not have a pokedex still. Secondly, we know of 7 trial captains, and there are only 6 totems here (again counting the two after Mimikyu as one), so even in the highly unlikely event that they are totems, there are STILL missing models here.
          3. This list does not include a pokemon that resembles the strange souvenir, nor does it include a pokemon that resembles the statues on Mahalo trail.
          4. The datamine does not include any stills for Charizard (who we’ve seen in trailers and is a pokeride pokemon) or Horsea (who we’ve also seen in trailers and is on an alolan statue).
          5. GameXplain claims they found MULTIPLE new pokemon in the first two hours of the game, and the leaked pokemon don’t look early game, as most are evolutions and the rest look late game. Remember, this is only the first TWO HOURS, so to find more than 1 new pokemon demonstrates how this can’t be complete.
          6. Marshadow is in the mythical pokemon section, which would mean that Solgaleo and Lunala are lacking a third legendary to the trio.

          Reply
          • 1) Those are confirmed to be the Alola Pokedex stills, Greninja isn’t in the Alolan Pokedex

            4) The Pikachu in Unova and the rare Pokémon in Kalos

            6) They could easily be ambitious renditions and/or randomly made. I’d even argue the statues are based off of humans

          • I’m not saying what we’ve got is everything, I’m saying some of your reasons are flawed:

            1. It has to be stored somewhere, that’s an indication that these ‘pokedex images’ are incomplete and might actually be there to stop people digging further.
            3. There’s nothing to say there is a pokemon that resembles the strange souvenir. The Riddler’s leak doesn’t count either since he’s got other things wrong.
            4. Charizard exists only as a ride pokemon, he’s not in the regional dex. Same with most of the ride pokemon.
            6. There might not be a third or it might not break the rule. Kyurem wasn’t immediately after Reshiram or Zekrom. Giratina was 2 Pokemon down from Dialga and Palki, Arceus was even further down.

          • These are loose connections like I’ve said, nothing definite. I would assume that the strange souvenir was a Pokemon, it’d be very weird if not.

          • I’m pretty sure it only ever existed as a hint from G6 to where G7 was going to be set.

Either that or it’s supposed to look like Marshadow.

    • Just another random, inexplicable, agrravating decision on GF’s part

Also I know I’m heavily repeating what myself and others have said, but I want to put the “Johto didn’t have fossils” and “Hawai is a volcanic island” dud excuses people are giving to rest once and for all.

“Johto didn’t have fossils”-Johto was basically Kanto.5, and we’ve had fossils every gen since, indicating it’s a pretty established pattern (as you’ve said). And no, stopping this pattern it makes no logical sense whatsoever as they’re purely stifling they’re own creativity.

The geological argument: Now this one I’m just not gonna let pass anymore:

a)Hawaii has a bunch of subfossils species, and apparently a few standard ones too… So yes it does have some form of fossils, not that that even matters, because …

      b) When the hell have game freak ever cared for biogeography or geological realism? This version of hawaii has red pandas and koalas. But they’re randomly going to decide not to put fossils because Hawaii doesn’t have proper fossils? I don’t buy it.

c)Most importantly, if you take a look at the Alolan pokedex, it has 4 fossil lines from previous generations. Now unless we have to buy those fossils, that just kills the geological argument right in it’s tracks.

Sorry if I come off as agressive :/ , I’m just sick of people making the same excuses that don’t even hold up to cover from one of GF’s usual bullshi¨t decisions.
GF dropped the ball with fossils just like they dropped the ball with the number of new pokémon and the pre-release reveal ratio. Let’s not let them get away with it.

      • I considered that, but I felt ones that shared types might be classed as the same UB in each version, making 6 UB with 2 sharing a number, and I figured it might be those 2 steel ones, so I didn’t want a type clash

          • They could easily be Chimeras of Pokémon or are just called that because they appear to look like human/Pokémon crossbreeds

          • Regardless, they are connected to specific humans in the game. Its not a mere coincedence that Beauty and UB-01 look like Lusamine and Lillie.

          • Oh no sure they resemble them, but that doesn’t mean they are them, only 3 look like they’re related tbh. I really don’t feel Hala would randomly be one, One of them may be related to Wicke, and another to Faba. And possibly Plumeria.

          • I never said they were them, I said they were counterparts. They come from another plane of existence, where Pokemon and humans are most likely the same thing.

          • But still, Hala feels like a Stretch. It’s more than likely Skull and Aether Admins.
But even if they were counterparts, wouldn’t catching them and using them feel weird to you?

          • Yet another reason I really don’t like the UBs. Get rid of the UBs and I’d happily put up with all the other weird changes we’ve had, but the UBs just don’t sit right with the rest of the world.

          • What does that have to do with Beauty looking like Lusamine? The evidence is right there lol. Even if its version exclusive, it doesn’t change the fact that the resemblance is uncanny.

          • Chimera:
            – Anything composed of very disparate part
            – A vain, foolish, or incongruous fancy, or creature of the imagination; as, the chimera of an author.
            – An organism with genetically distinct cells originating from two zygotes

          • Zygotes are cells that form babies.
Twins that look the same are known as ‘monozygotic’ because they are made from single zygotes that split, thus making the foetuses look the same.
Twins that look different from each other are ‘dizygotic’ because each one is formed from a different zygote.

At least I think that’s how it works, my time spent learning Psychology was years ago. And yes, biology like that is relevant to learning Psychology.

          • Alot of the time when you speak it feels like you’re talking down to people I dunno if that’s on purpose but it feels degrading.
But what I meant is, Zygardes Cell and Core form to make Zygarde, obviously more than 2 but I thought the similarity of how it sounded was funny.
            And yes I know that.

          • Because I tried to explain it in plain English?
Would you prefer I just tell people to ‘google it’ or send them to wikipedia instead of trying to explain it myself?

I took ‘sounds like’ to be in the homophone sense, not in the similie sense. I suppose it is sort of similar, it might well contribute to Zygarde’s etymology.

That last sentence was preempting “so you did psychology and you’re suddenly a biology expert?” which I’ve had said one too many times.

          • I try to talk to people like people while explaining, though sometimes it comes off as talking down to them. I do struggle with that. I’ve seen you mention Psychology a lot and I know how they’re related. I get that you’re trying to make it clear but it comes off like that, though I admit it isn’t easy. Specially when theres people not willing to actually listen.

          • I don’t get what the difference is, I’m just reciting the facts as they are, formally and with no room for ambiguity.

I don’t think I mention it that much, only when it’s relevant somehow (i.e. any chance I get to insult Freud). You’d be surprised how many people don’t know what “twin studies” are.

And my main subject of study is programming so I’m very used to people not having a clue what I’m talking about.
And there are people here who are quite young (e.g. <17) and who are from different topics (i.e. they have different curriculums) so I don't like to assume too much knowledge of any topics in case I have to backtrack.

          • The difference is one makes people more likely to listen and the other makes people more likely to be annoyed. Even if your intentions are good it can still give a derogatory feeling. Part of it too might be because I feel like I’m talked down to by know it alls a lot, so it’s not 100% you, I just mean try and be a little more, nicer, instead of direct. Though I know that’s not easy. Specially when people have no clue, and also not face to face.

          • I think you’re reading more into what I said than there is.

How do I even make information sound ‘nice’?
Do I add more ‘lol’? Do I add emoticons?
Is it because I used the word ‘thus’?

            Seriously, I don’t get it.

          • I’m not quite sure how to word it, but sometimes it feels like you’re insulting intelligence, it just feels a bit condescending. But you’ve given your reasons for why it’s like that, and I agree, it is hard to explain things to people without sounding like that tbh, like maybe start of with a positive, but then explain like “That sounds cool, however”. As I said I suck at explaining, it was just getting a bit annoying. Sorry for bothering you about it.

          • I don’t mind it being brought up, but you haven’t really given me much to go on.

If you can’t explain precisely what it is that gives you that impression and can’t really suggest something specific to change then I don’t really have much to go on and I can’t really do anything about it. Especially since you’re the only one who has brought it up.

You don’t have to apologise for it, I just wish you could’ve given me a clearer idea of why you get that impression.

Again, most people I know wouldn’t know what a zygote is, let alone how they work.

(As an aside: ‘cool’ is a word I would very seldom use.)

      • I don’t see where Water comes from tbh, it doesn’t do a good job of displaying it and Crabrawler proves they’re willing to do terrestrial crabs

          • Which country are you from? UK?
Don’t know if you guys have ever used something like that to discipline misbehaving kids. Well, maybe waaay back then.

          • Yeah, Britain. (Specifically England.)

We had a similar thing, but instead of a rudimentary ‘strip the branch of its leaves’ we had specially carved “canes”, and the practise was called “caning”.
It was typically only used in schools, not by parents, and the cane was thinner than a ‘walking cane’.

I don’t know when it was outlawed but it was some time in the last 50 years.

          • Ironically ‘candy’ is also a very American term. As is the association of candy canes with Christmas.

And while I think of it, so it Trick or Treating on Halloween.

          • You guys just call candy “sweets,” right? I honestly have no idea how candy canes got associated with Christmas, but then again I don’t think Christmas as we know is what it was supposed to be.

          • most of our christmas traditions are pagan, with a few other cultures sprinkled in here and there so who knows

          • Anything plant-related is almost certainly pagan. The modern form of Christmas is mostly part pagan, part christian and part aethiest.

However you look at it though, it’s only worth it for the special christmas episodes of various TV series. (Admittedly last year was a bit of a let down though.)

          • Yeah. People understand what ‘candy’ means because of the external influence, but ‘sweets’ still remains primary. (Where I live at least, it might be different in the big cities.)

It’s probably related to commercialism, like the red santa thing supposedly being a result of coca cola’s influence.

According to Wikipedia they weren’t mentioned in associated with Chritsmas until the late 1800s and they were more popular in America because of heavy production in Georgia.

          • they had caning in north america too, around the same time the switch was popular, the cane was usually used like you said in schools and some religious schools continued using them long after everyone else stopped, like the nuns used the cane on my dads knuckles to make him use his right hand instead of his left because they thought it was of the devil

          • The cane was used in many countries, but which ones I have no idea. Presumably everywhere with some form of British influence has used it at some point.

I’m guessing he came from a place with an Irish influence?

          • I mean, yea we are of irish decent but we live in canada, thankfully in the past 30 years all of those schools no longer exist here

          • It was the reasoning behind the caning that gave it away. Ireland still holds quite heavy Christian beliefs in comparison to the rest of the UK. (The conflict between the Catholics and the Protestants is still somewhat present.)

Aparently caning wasn’t outlawed in public and state-run schools in Britain until ’86, and wasn’t fully outlawed until ’99 for England & Wales, 2000 for Scotland and ’03 for N. Ireland.

In some ways I wish we still had it, detention was never much of a punishment, nobody saw it as a deterrent.

  41. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Remake will probably be on the Nintendo Switch, seeing that Pokemon is now focusing their attentions on that. And if that’s the case, then Gen 7 will be the first gen pokemon game to be on two separate Nintendo consoles. It’ll probably be able to trade with Sun and Moon to and from between the Switch and the 3DS.

    Reply
      • same could be said for the DS with Gen 5 when Gen 4 was released on that. I wasn’t impressed. That should’ve waited until 3DS. Nah, I think it’s better releasing it on a console in which is not backwards comparable with the DS, rather than buying the same product again, just like Twilight Princess. Besides, The Pokemon Company have revealed so that they are already at work on it.

        Reply
        • If they’d released G5 on the 3DS it probably would have looked worse. They needed a lot of time to rewrite the game engine to work with the 3DS’s hardware.

          Reply
          • Then why is it refereed as Generations then?

            Gen 1 – Gameboy
Gen 2 – Game Boy Color
Gen 3 – Game Boy Advance
            Gen 4 – DS
            Gen 5 – DSi (DS)
            Gen 6 – 3DS
            Gen 7 – 3DS (Switch)

The Gen 5 I can understand, but a DSi is not a Gameboy Color as it can easily function to and fro between DS and DSi with DS games. Isn’t really backwards comparable as it is the same console. Also why two Gens on the 3DS? For a generation to work, it must be on a separate system altogether.

From what is said, Game Freak has now started focusing with the new console. Could be the G4 remake. Could be Gen 7.5 or even G8. We will never know until the next year.

          • The DSi was still as DS, the processor was almost identical. The DSi was to the DS what the New 3DS is to the 3DS.

Pokemon generations are not tied to the console they are played on.

And it’s backwards ‘compatible’, not backwards ‘comparable’.

    • Man, I don’t wanna have to spend $400 on a console I won’t use on my TV just to play Pokemon. I couldn’t afford more than one pro controller for my Wii U, and I couldn’t even play cheap old Wii games because I had no Wiimotes. Got frustrated at my lack of money and sold it. Never even finished Bayonetta 2 🙁

I know you can take the Switch apart and carry it around, but it looks a lot less replaceable than a 2DS (which is what I use).

        • Sorry, had to complain about that, that explains why people could reverse engineer so easily. There are tools that read symbol tables and can use them to produce assembly code with functions , so copying it to PC and getting decent assembly code would be a 5 minute job with the right tool to hand. Then they’d only have to read the function names until they saw something that sounded interesting and read further to figure out what it does. Only marginally harder than reading the original source code. In fact the right tools could turn the assembly into C to make it even easier.

        • can we just take a moment to talk about those Sun and moon flutes for a second, like I wonder if we get them and call the legendaries with them (which would mean they have no story like XY’s legendaries)

          Reply
          • I don’t see how having flutes suddenly means ‘no story’.
            Lugia and Ho-oh had wings.
            Groudon and Kyogre had orbs.
            Palkia and Dialga had stones.
            Reshiram and Zekrom had orbs.
            Xerneas and Yveltal had nothing.

          • Was just an observation doesn’t mean its correct. The reason I say this is because so far we haven’t really heard anything about either of the legendaries but we have heard all about the UB’s and the Tapu pokemon, and it seems like they will have the main story focus in the game so far (again seems like, doesn’t mean it will) and XY they were kind of just called forth randomly from a machine reviving them. Im ready for GF to prove me wrong, it was just a feeling I had.

          • It wouldn’t be a surprise if they just told us all about them beforehand. Misdirecting our attention to the UBs stops people questioning the legendaries.
I’m pretty sure this isn’t the first time we didn’t know the purpose of the legendaries until actually playing the game.

It won’t be like XY, we already know they have actual shrines dedicated to them and their own special moves and forms, both of which have had attention drawn to in videos.

(When they appeared in full 3D)
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oO_P4GX_RA

(And the first time their abilities were shown)
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHSl9xdxfyI

Signs point towards purposely drawing our attention away to keep them mysterious. Like how the in Jaws the shark itself waits until the final act before it actually apears ‘in person’.
Seeing the effect of a being before seeing the being itself is a well used trope for a good reason.

          • Just saying, it’s certainly possible.

Especially because of the shrine thing, Xerneas and Yveltal didn’t have shrines like all the others. Dragonspiral Tower, Cave Of Origin, Whirl Islands, Tin Tower, Spear Pillar.

            X & Y just got dumped in a lab under a henge, no shrine/ruins.

That’s 2 big things (that and the flutes) that Solgaleo and Lunaala have running for them. Not to mention the prevos/altformes.

    • I feel like I sucked you down into this conspiracy theory with that game explain comment and now you’re gunning for it harder than like anyone else here, I don’t even have to look for evidence anymore XD. • London feels like a foreign country though, it’s so alien compared to the rest of the places I’ve been in the UK. People’s behaviour and attitudes are really different (not necisarily negative, but still odd), the way things are structured and laid out are different and a lot of the place is cleaner and more modernised. It’s really weird.

Maybe it’s like that in some other places, but tbh I’ve felt more at home in Greece than I have in London.

Now that I’m done with that: fashion is unimportant 😛

          • But fashion is an art form 😮

Like I don’t think everyone should engage in it, just like not everybody is forced into drama and painting

I like London, I literally got lost without a phone there but easily navigated my way back due to the structure. If it was New York or something I’d of been screwed XD

I also love the contrast between old and new, it’s an art in and of itself. And it is a city of art, really, due to the plays and musicals

I also just feel more at home with more people, it grounds me. I’m reminded that others are living and that I’m not necessarily alone.

          • Some things should stay hypothetical or on the drawing board *looks at Lady Gaga’s meat dress*.

Most people are made to experience drama, painting and textiles through the national curriculum 😛 It’s not being made to do it as a career, but it’s still important. Also it depends on a person’s outlike, there are people who treat all clothing as a fashion statement and not merely coverings to keep warm and ‘decent’.

I’ve never got lost there before. If you’re not going a large distance it’s pretty easy to use buildings as landmarks. Some places are nicer than others.

Plays I’ll agree with, not musicals.
I prefer the old bits. I went to an art gallery in Camden once and had to stop myself laughing at the ‘art’. It was no oil painting, pun intended.

Eh, I don’t like places with lots of people. Too much judgement, too many negative vibes. I liked the docks though, nice and calm with a gentle breeze.

      • I’m going to be shocked if you aren’t able to buy a family bundle/buy a second handheld, people with siblings who aren’t willing to share is a big part of the market I’d assume.

Not sure how accurate this is, but I found his one Reddit, the list of Pokemon on MeleMele supposedly found somehow with the datamine: http://pastebin.com/DRd8c2mm
If you recall from the evidence I’ve said multiple times, GameXplain found MORE THAN ONE NEW Pokemon in the first two hours of the game, which quite obviously take place on MeleMele. Now, if this list is true, there is ONLY ONE NEW POKEMON in MeleMele that isn’t an evo, which is the leaked anemone thing. It isn’t even near the beginning of the dex, it is near the end of the island. If GX found more than one new Pokemon in the first two hours and there’s only one non-evo Pokemon found on late MeleMele, it’s obvious at this point they found something that we don’t know of. Evidence number I lost count.

(Seriously though, I think people do judge clothing too much.)

          • Yeah pretty much :p

I always internally judge, I can’t help it, but I’d always treat an actual person with respect and will probably care more about them.

And I guess the reason so many people care about clothing is because it’s easily the most evident expression of oneself: it’s one of the first thing people notice about you and it can also just express so much more (like this is my job, this is my team, this is my culture, etc)

          • Clothing, much like makeup, is easy to lie with. Put on a fancy suit, tell someone you’re a salesman and they’ll probably believe you.

I’ve never put much faith in clothing, I tend to forget what people I meet/know are wearing unless it’s out of the ordinary.

Or maybe the next generation of pokemon games.

    • I don’t know if I want that.
      On one hand, better graphics.
On the other hand, that means that the 3ds version will have restricted features, and I’ll have to wait 4 months after the release for the full experience.

        • Let’s see how the console does. While it certainly is powerful, it’s running the Vita risk right now with handheld dev’s, and we’ll have to see how we’ll they can communicate the idea of a console game that can be played on the go, and one that is meant to be thought of as a handheld that can be played on a big screen.

          Reply
    • i’m not thinking that
i don’t think main games will hit the Switch THAT soon
they should should start small with one-two spin-offs and a battle revolution game with sun and moon’s sequel

  53. To be honest this kinda sounds dumb but I kinda hope they do a Pokémon spin off for the switch

Like complete tabula rasa, no old Pokémon at all, the only things coming from the main series being the rough concept of turn based battles, the current type chart, and relevant moves and abilities they can use for these spin off Pokémon

Or a harder, more mature (teenaged) spin off series

    Or both as one project

    Reply
      • I just feel the main series has a lot of clutter and I feel a back to the basics sort of game would be just what some people need

        Reply
        • I thought you meant drop the Pokemon title and make a digimon/yokai watch esque spinoff. Still don’t want it though, I rather like what it is now.

          Reply
          • Nah, it’d still be Pokémon at its core, and it’d just be a spin off so peeps who like tge main games can just not touch it or have both :p

          • Your description was basically “It’s pokemon, but without all the 720+ existing pokemon”.

Scrapping megas and z-moves I could agree with, but retconning every single pokemon is quite drastic.

          • Tbh I just feel it’d be a nice break way from the main series

And one of Pokémon’s problems is that its designs tend to be limited by the game’s art style, and I’d love to see them try their hand at others, like more realistic or different animated styles

          • Typhlosion at least is a mix of standing and quad. And most seem battle ready.. not agressive to me.. maybe another word. Especially not fennekin. But its cool to all have opinions. I love his design tho

          • No, everyone must agree with me or they’re wrong!!! I do like Fennekin though, but wasn’t impressed by delphox. I like when it uses its wand in battle though.

And there’s recently been some leaps forward in nuclear research that are begining to look like nuclear could become much cleaner. I can’t remember the details but it involved diamonds.

This seems to just continue my trend this past year of buying every system currently on the market for 1-3 games per system. Excluding the PS4 which I bought to play with my fiance. However I feel like this is kind of sucky I guess for lack of a better word coming to mind at the moment. I don’t think you’d be at much risk of that on Disqus. Most people here probably wouldn’t even know how to hack your account beyond trying random passwords. And you can always recover your account via email.

At least you’re admired I suppose. If something of me ended up online it would probably end up in a meme or just a truckload of negative comments. 😛

          • I tried to not jump to the conclusion that is was ‘those’ types of pictures but had a feeling it would be. That’s quite a problem these days, one of the reasons I try to stay away from social media and keep my internet persona separate from my real life where possible.

          • It wasnt that bad, I dont do pictures the way most girls do. I try to do it classy and only mildly suggestive so you couldnt see anything you wouldnt if you have a bra on, just the curvature. Its just I am very sensitive about that kind of stuff. edit: Note I’m on a laptop so there’s no upgrading video card.

Actually I have an idea. I’ll try PALADINS first. And if that works, then I go buy Overwatch.

          • yeah that’s a good test. Though if you know for certain what model your Video card is, Overwatch recommends only a 660 GTX. So fairly old parts still really work well for it. I run a 970 on mine and its looks great. And one sat I’ll upgrade to that 1080 beauty. When the’re a bit cheaper.

          • I’m not sure if the laptop nvidia cards follow the numbering hierarchy though, and Street Fighter V PC is kinda unoptimized anyway but makes that video card a bit hot causing slowdown. But we’ll see. I can download Paladins in the weekend.

          • They do follow traditional numbering for the most part. They might be a bit weaker, but their generally comparable. So if you have anything that’s 700 series(three years old or so), you’ll be more then fine.

          • I have a 980 and i thought I had a heating problem installed monitors never goes above 70 c, however I do have slight card crashes that I can alt ctrl del out off which only happens on smite every so often no other game, and sims 3 every thirty minutes gives me a kernel power 43 error but i dont know how to install parts i want a new psu but my ex is being coy about it, and if I have to uninstall and reinstall the other components to do the psu I have decided I am simply buying another computer with a 1080.

I do want a Xenoblade X port though.

          • This is a console that they will be supporting for a long time. I’m sure they’re getting Wii U remasters out of the door within the first few years and then focusing on completely new experiences.

          • I don’t want for my experiences for the first few years to be mostly ports though, there’s no real incentive to buy the console.

      • Here you go, a preliminary list of evidence (there are 3 more I found today which I haven’t updating this list with yet:

        • 3. I’m telling you it’s going to be the red tapu once it closes its mask 🙂 And the statue was only speculated to be a Pokemon, we’ve had plenty of statues in the games that aren’t Pokemon 😛

        • you probably shouldn’t use the totems as an example because they never said that there would be a totem pokemon after each trail captain.

          Reply
        • 1) Greninja is not in the regional dex so it’s clear its new form in’t there either.
          2) Totem are in the dex because they are much bigger then normal pokemon, this is why the pokedex may register them as they were forms. No, we have all the totem pokemon in the pokedex cause wishiwashi will not have a totem model: it’s school form is already a totem like pokemon.
          3) The strange souvenir may be a Tapu (the red one) once closed or may not been a real pokemon at all.
          4) Palpitoad was a statue in x/y but was not in the regional pokedex. Charizard may be a post game pokemon to ride or simply rideable pokemon are not registered by the pokedex
          5) They probably have seen Pikipeck evo, alola diglet and alola geodude and graveler.
          6) Gen 2 has no 3rd legend so it’s possible neither gen 7 has one.

Think what you want but dataminers agree on the fact that this is all what we have.

          Reply
    • Is anyone really surprised? Sure it was a possibility in a way, but it was never something that was a shoo in. Honestly I think they can do a a single region just fine and make the game feel solid. There doesn’t really need to be much post game content if the whole story is super jam packed.

Literally just take X&Y game, change the story slightly, add 1 or 2 more encounters and better dialogue for Team flare, give Malva more to do, a few new locations, more post game stuff, and then work zygarde into the story. Whatever, at least Sun and Moon look great. And they better be.

          • Yeah I get what you’re saying. XY really could’ve used a 3rd version, it was so lackluster for all the hype it generated. I hope Sun and Moon will be great. I mean honestly I expect they will be even without Kalos. It’s just I was so hopeful to return to Kalos and finally get a 2 region game again.

          • I feel like we’ll never get another 2 region game ;-; I just hope that at least Alola has some sweet post game islands to explore

          • Oh if this wasn’t a 2 region game, no way will it ever happen again. Admittedly, we never really needed a 2 region game before. Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova were fine on their own. But this all really built up to being the perfect storm of Sun and Moon being a dual region game. But seeing as they most likely won’t be, it’ll remain a GS thing.

          • Johto has no fossils. It was part of a 2 region game. Alola has no fossils…………………. wishful thinking but hey… and I don’t wanna wait until the inevitable Kalos remake that will happen when I’m old and retired…

          • Sun and Moon are alchemic symbols for Gold and Silver
Solgaleo and Lunala have no trio master just like Ho-Oh and Lugia. Although it can be argued Zygarde is the trio master of both Xerneas/Yveltal and Solgaleo/Lunala.
Magearna has the Soul Heart Ability.
Johto had no fossils and neither does Sun and Moon.
That Ecruteak-looking city on UlaUla Island.

It annoys me xD Probably looking too much into things all along. Yet GameFreak has a history of hinting at things..

      • Lol! But you’re right, the Kalos region felt bland and GF not making a sequel to X and Y left these games with confusion and many unexplored features. At least we have Zygarde’s complete form and the other ones in Sun and Moon.

      • Maybe it’s so when we get to X/Y remakes there won’t be as many people dissapointed that they changed a lot because all they’d have to do is add to it.

        • I think that would be cool. I mean, Nintendo makes a lot of new consoles compatible with old ones, I just don’t know if they would do both the wii u and 3ds since it is a hybrid.

          I would certainly hope so.

    • I imagine the best we can hope for in that regard is them porting over games from the Wii U via new retail versions or making Wii U games in some capacity on the VC lol

  66. If there’s no pokemon league, how do we train our pokemon? You think maybe the captains can be matched in postgame with them having an actual team? I also remember the chinese leaker said that “an actual elite four” would have appeared sometimes after the main story…

    Reply
    • I imagine they won’t get rid of the traditional “league” ever. I would be willing to bet that some sort of league takes its place in the Alola region after you beat the game. I can’t imagine it being all that extensive, but we’ll have some sort of E4. I would say at the very least the Kahunas are rechallenge.

    • I imagine theres a central figure. So:
      Trials
      4 Kahunas
1 Central Figure Champion Type, probably a King/Queen.
In Hawaiian History Kahunas serve a King, so that seems possible.

    • I love it but the revelation that it has no evolution really throws a wrench in my plans :/ there’s no way it will have high enough stats be able to play competitively :/

That’s officially the best thing on the internet, ever. We can all go home now, nothing will ever beat that.

        • Oh, I see. Idk, that thing looks more like a dark type than water. I think the bubble around its head is an air bubble, so to me that suggests it’s out of its element and won’t be a water type.

          • Other than both being Ghost/Grass two-staged Pokemon found in the same area, nothing really says that they’re counterparts.
None of the dex entries mention one of another, they’re not version exclusive, one has its own gimmick. They don’t even have the same base stats. The anime doesn’t even put them close to each other.

          • They are however both Grass/Ghost Pokemon that evolve only by Trading. That are right next to each other in the Pokedex, share the same routes. That is enough for them to be counterparts. Like the Caterpie and Weedle lines are counterparts, they don’t share the same base stats.

    • Thing is just because it’s a bug or looks like a bug or based on a bug doesn’t mean it has to be a bug-type. We have Lurantis and Drapion already as examples.

    • If you’re referring to that 2-stage Pokémon with like a bubble and spider legs, yeah. I think that one will be water/bug. But Wimpod might turn out to be Bug/Fighting.

    • this is ridiculous. of course they aren’t going to reveal anything. especially Bethesda, as that might interfere with skyrim complete edition’s sales soon. I know I no longer plan on buying skyrim for ps4. and his example with ken Levine, had no game footage shown on the wii u. you all honestly don’t believe Nintendo would do anything like this, do you?

    • You should probably get it if there’s launch title that you must have.

Otherwise you probably can wait until Pokemon Gen 8…

Also keep in mind BW2 came out on DS long after 3DS release… so I think Gen 7 might still have a 3DS-based expansion.

      Reply
      • Thats true (bw2)! Totally forgot About that,

Launchtitle wise the only thing i really love is Mario kart, but not sure if its worth picking it up for.. i Will wait till a Pokemon title is announced i guess

Are you gonna buy it straight from launch?

  67. Some of the guys from GameXplain who played Sun/Moon early were answering some questions – nothing specific because of the NDA, but they could talk about certain things. I asked one of them if trading was available in the first 2 hours. He said no.

I’m a little disappointed. tbh. XY was amazing – even before you hit Santalune you could trade Pokemon. And wondertrade made it even more fun.

    • How many people were able to play the first 2 hours?
And were they all on each others friends lists; online at the same time?
Is there even already an online service for trading or Wondertrade in Sun/Moon?

I think, they just couldn’t trade, because the amount of people being able to play the game was so limited and supervised
Doesn’t necessarily mean you couldn’t trade the moment you get the Pokedex in the finished games

Or is trading only available in the Festival Plaza?

    If it released the same time in the UK as everywhere else then it’d be good but it’s a Wednesday so that means three days of school ;-;

        • The only midnight release I’ve ever been to is SSB4 3DS, and I got there at like 11:30 and was 41st in line (they split us up into groups of ten and I was alone lol), so I feel like they’d need a lot of preorders to do an event at my store. Has your store recently opened?

    • Hahah, I just got done watching a Monster High movie and she did the voice of a character and I don’t think it was possible to ham it up any farther. On a scale of 1 to 10, it was a 15. Slightly related: she also dubbed the voice of Scorpina in the original Power Rangers. Too bad they barely used that character.

At least they’re getting Skyrim on it, or you know, some game that *isn’t* Mario.
Not that I could afford it anyway, it looks pretty expensive, and did I mention breakable?
