  1. Now that I’ve finished watching it, I’m more partial to the voice I give Courtney, which is slower, a tad less emotion, and quieter. But this voice isn’t bad either, I just think something similar to mine is more creepy, but that’s just me.

  2. as always though, Generations just makes me wish we had an actual whole series rather than minisodes ;A;
I do dig the fact Courtney literally went with crazy faces. I like the crazy characters

  3. Does anyone else think it’s kinda sad how indoctrinated and detached from reality Courtney is?? not to mention the sociopathic behavior near the end.

  4. Love the freakish extremists/cult take on Team Magma, it works extremely well here, and Courtney’s creepyness serves it well too.
But as with pretty much every episode, I feel the english writing and voice acting can be awkward and jarring at times, and the french version is actually better in all of these. Which is weird because usually english language stuff is cooler, but in this case the french dub works better pretty much every time: the voices are better suited, the acting is less jarring, even the writing is slightly better.

I realise this is probably taken from the games, but one example would be the “maxie Sir” form of address, which creates detrimental distance between the protagonists. In the french version, they just call him Max and use the informal rather than more formal form of you (tu), and honestly it works much better. It makes the high ranking members feel more like a family, and you genuinely feel Courtney doesn’t just trust Maxie as as guru, but wishes him well as a friend, and that Maxie also trusts and cares about her. Even Tabitha’s silly line before Maxie enters the submarine is a little less dumb, and more importantly it feels like a friendly joke rather than him just acting like an idiot.

I know I’m going stupidly deep with the analysis, but honestly I really felt it this time because the french version just did the “best” (IMO) part of the episode better-ie giving us a little bit more of a personal perspective into team magma. Whereas I came out of the English dub feeling a little jarred by the whole thing, the french dub gave me a good appreciation that they’d deepened character development and made the lore a little richer.

  5. I’m expecting an episode with May and Team Aqua next week. I wonder what storyline they’ll go for though. I guess they might go for an emerald-style compromise while conserving ORAS elements? But it’s really weird to me they gave the coast-cave base and submarine plot to team magma, those make for a way better association with team aqua, as did magma’s mount chimney base in Emerald…

And as others have predicted we’ll probably get a Zinnia episode, hmmn actually I’m gonna predict next week we’ll see Zinnia as a cameo or side character working for team aqua, and that’ll be the aspect of the story we get to see… And maybe, just maybe if they’re building up to something, a mention of project AZOTH… It was in the team base after all.

I’m also now expecting at least one looker appearance in each region, so maybe we’ll see him apprehend one or more of the team members? Tbh that didn’t happen in the games so I dunno, but at this point I believe/want looker to be something of a guiding thread in generations.
That might clutter the episode too though, hmmm.

I wouldn’t be surprised by a steven stone appearance as people are predicting, and I’m also expecting a delta episode story, so how is that going to fit in?

How is all that gonna fit into two more episodes? It probably won’t all appear tbh, as I’m not expecting them to do more than 3 episodes per region since 6*3=18 and that works perfectly.

It’s making me really sad we’re not getting more of this though, because every time we leave a region there’s so much more to explore…

I would crowdfund the sh*t out of this if it meant a follow up (though GF and nintendo definitely don’t need crowdfunding tbh)… Come on pokémon company, can’t you see how win-win it would be to keep making these? More hype, more ad revenue, more happy fans, hell, SELL them to me if you need to, I need moar than 18 episodes!!!

  6. EP7:
    – Tabitha’s voice is creepy and annoying
    – Courtney’s voice is creepy and cliché
    – Maxie’s voice is suitable
    – The grunts have sensible voices
    – Groudon is OP
    – Why is Courtney now psychic?
    – That’s what Camerupt should sound like
    – I reiterate: Courtney is creepy

  8. Loved this episode so much, and I felt the way they went about it was nice since I expected it to be just Maxie, Groudon and the player. Hopefully next week we get an Aqua version and then Delta Episode.

Also why does Camerupt sound like a horse….

          • Lol. Fair enough. I used to be a good student when I first started. Don’t think I attended a single lecture in my final 2 years however. Came out with a First Class Honours.

Either the system is broken, or the system is broken.

          • The UK system is the opposite, attend all the lectures, still do badly because you ‘worded your answer wrong’ and nobody gets a top grade.

Also I have no idea how high a first class honours is, I’ve only done a BTEC (level 3 qualification) and a HND (level 4/5 qualification).

          • For the record that was my experience in a UK university. I felt my time could be better spent doing the learning in my own time, than spend hours sitting in a lecture theatre listening to somebody droning on and on. Especially as you come to realise most university lecturers are there for the benefits to their own research and teaching just comes as part of the package.

And a First Class Honours is the highest degree classification you can get.

          • Yeah, the UK education system sucks, I really don’t get why it’s so highly regarded. The only thing I think we teach to a higher degree is maybe English and Drama. IT is certainly sub-par, there were times I ended up correcting the teachers’ facts and code.

Huh, neat. If I hadn’t lost faith in the education system I would have been doing my degree this year. That last year killed me though, I wanted to leave but nobody would let me.

          • Yep the education system definitely sucks. I felt alot of my exams were unfairly marked because I didn’t write things exactly as they wanted them. I also realised they don’t want you to challenge them because the response you get is ‘oh, it’s already gone through the exam board, cant be changed now’.
It’s not about what you know, it’s about whether or not you use the words they want you to. I also looked at the mark schemes they use and it’s literally a checklist of key words…use this word, get a mark.

Like I said they only care about the funding they get through the university for their research, why spend hours marking what I wrote in an exam, when you can be done in a couple of minutes and get back to what you actually enjoy doing.

          • Yes, exactly. I’m glad it’s not just me that noticed this. Back in secondary school we had a teacher who actually spent lessons teaching us how they wanted things worded in exams.

Yeah, our teachers used to just show us the mark schemes they were given to try to make things easier for us.

            Yeah, I can imagine that.
A lot of the education system has become about money.
They want to get as many students through the system as possible so they can secure more funding, completely uncaring about the grade or if the student actually knows what they’re doing. Out of all the people in my class who came away having ‘passed’ the programming unit, only about 2-3 of us could actually write a program, the rest just copy+pasted and tweaked stuff from the internet (and asked me to fix their bugs for them because they didn’t understand what a syntax error was or what causes a stackoverflow or a cast exception).

          • Ah. In that case I would assume they are similar. I still don’t know what uni is like though… ( ^ _ ^ ‘)

          • Yeah, but they function differently I think.

I’m pretty sure uni is more intended for people living on-campus, but I could be wrong. And I think the way the lecture or classes work are different.

          • I always thought colleges have campus?

Any way, it works different in NL anyway. We dont work with campus. Most students who dont want to live at home anymore while being at college/uni just rent a one-person appartment or room close to the school

          • The one I went to had buildings, but it didn’t have any places for students to stay (i.e. dorms/dormitories) as far as I know. It was all just learning facilities, no residency areas.

Yeah, that’s how it works here.
I think staying at a college (i.e. in dorms) is more of an American/Canadian thing.

            I could be wrong though.

          • Yeah it is. I think its because in America, people tend to want to become independent once they reach 18. In Europe, we dont really care about that. I’m almost 24 and still live at home and also not planning yet to move out. Why should I anyway? Lol, saves me a buttload of money too

          • Oh good, so it’s not just people in the UK who stay at home 😀 (In fairness, part of the excuse is the stupidly high house prices)

          • I have lived on my own before, but it was boring because you’re alone most of the time. So I moved back in with my parents. The money wasn’t even my biggest issue at that time

          • Probably wouldn’t have made much difference to me if I were capable, I spend most of my day semi-isolated from my parents anyway, hidden behind a computer screen.

I think my parents could probably afford to pay for accomodation if I went to uni, the main issue would be surviving on my own.

          • If I may interject for a moment I may be able clear at least in part things up. As far as European university and colleges work I have no idea. However in the US universities and colleges are very similar. Most of the time the only real difference is that universities are bigger than colleges and may have more campuses. As for lectures it all really depends on the major and professor who is teaching thr class as far as sick days and tardiness works. Hope that helps at least a little hahaha

          • Mostly makes sense.

It was all going fine until ‘major’. Either they never told me about what the different available qualifications were at college or Britain’s qualifications are very differently named.

Also none of my college lecuturers were ‘professor’ or even ‘doctor’ level, they were just plain Mr and Mrs.

It seems to me that US universities have a lot more archaic terminology behind them, like ‘alma mater’ and ‘major’ and ‘honours degree’. We might have that too, but I only ever hear them mentioned in the context of US iniversity.

          • Britain’s qualifications are differently named. I dont understand the major thing myself.

We have university degrees straight after college, usually around aged 18.

Most courses provide a 3 year degree called a Bachelor’s degree. After you complete this you have the option to do a further year to get a Master’s Degree. Usually in a more specific field, following your Bachelor’s degree.
And following on from his you can choose if you want to do a 3 year PhD to get your doctorate.

Medical and Law degrees work slightly differently I think.

Alma Mater is just what you call the university you graduated from. Its not used as often in the UK, but it is still a thing

          • Fair enough.
We have a ‘level’ system as a sort of spine to all the differently named qualifications to help people understand them better.

            https://www.gov.uk/what-different-qualification-levels-mean/list-of-qualification-levels

To be fair, I did it a bit differently because I did two runs of college instead of going to uni because I didn’t feel well equipped enough to survive on my own (and I still don’t. I can program in ~5-6 different programming languages but I can’t use an oven, a washing machine, or a dishwasher)

Part of me would have liked to go into the deep study route of doctorates and PhDs, but I don’t feel like I’m smart enough. I still can’t stay awake long enough to read a white paper, and my maths skills top out at functions, vectors, matrices and lambda calculus.
PHD is a level 8 qualification, Masters is level 7 and degree with honours is level 6 I think.

          • Yes, that’s a much simpler way to look at it. I just quickly summarised how university work in the U.K.
Personally I’m at the Masters level (Level 7) and trying to will myself to do a PhD but I don’t know if I have it in me to do another 3 years. And at the same time I want to work towards gaining the title of Professor, which is essentially top of the game, but again I don’t know if I have it in me.

          • It’s actually not that impressive. I have a Master’s degree in Pharmacy and only just started practicing. But my interest is in Pharmaceutics, so I’m hoping to do PhD in Drug Delivery/Formulation, and hopefully become a Professor in the field of Drug Design. But that’s an incredibly far fetched dream at the moment.
I am a number of things, but my single biggest weakness is my extreme laziness. Sometimes I marvel that I’ve even gotten this far…

          • When your highest qualification is a level 5, it’s pretty impressive.
Drug design is an interesting topic, but there’s still the issue of the financial issues driving drug companies to focus on the business aspects, which is a shame. Still, very interesting. The most I can remember from biology about bacteria and infections is how some bacteria disguise themselves as proteins and other useful things to get into the blood stream before attacking.

Shame you’re not becoming a programmer, that’s one of the three virtues: http://threevirtues.com/
(I’m also prone to laziness and procrastination.)

          • Sorry “major” the kind of degree you are going for. Like I majored in Communication studies lol

  11. Generations is so underwhelming.
Well, guess that’s what you get when you make 4 minute long episodes.

I liked how Courtney was portrayed, and I liked seeing Sceptike wreck the base. But. It was still bad

        • Art is subjective. There’s some art film that literally a single blue screen for like ten hours as a blind man narrates over it. Its a beautiful piece of work, but I can see most people finding that complete crap.

        • I mean Mallow is letter for letter the plants name (but she’s the Grass specialist so it’s easy to see why) but so is Kiawe. But it is weirder that the types weak to Grass do have such obvious plant names.

          Reply
          • Kiawe is less obvious though if you don’t know plants. Mallow is obscure but moew obvious than others.

Sophocles… still not sure what plant that is.
Hala is obscure, Ilia is obscure, Lana is obscure, Plumeria is obscure, Guzma is obscure.

            You get the point.

          • True. Although I didn’t really notice ‘olive’ until it was pointed out since Olivia isn’t really a common name where I come from and thus I didn’t think it out that much.

        • In japanese, literally all the gym leaders/elite 4 members/champions/Alolan equivalents are named after plants (there might be exceptions but from a sample of me randomly looking, the rule stuck :p) .
In many cases this also applies to the English translations, for example in the Kalos elite 4.
It’s kind of the essence of major NPC naming in pokémon, if anything it would be weird if she wasn’t named after a plant!

          Reply
          • Some of them are a bit of a double name though, like Misty’s name ‘kasumi’ literally meaning mist and just being an allusion to a flower.

And again, the plant names are quite obscure.
Olivia is clear cut – olive plant, but stuff like Drasna -> Dracaena and Siebold -> siebold crabapple aren’t obvious.

          • True the plant names are often obscure, and there a many double meanings (which I think is really cool), but the fact remains plant are an essential naming component of pokémon characters, there’s quite honestly too much evidence for the similarities to be coincidental.
And frankly Olivia is a widespread name, unlike Drasna or Siebold, so it kind of looses it’s connotation a lot. When I think of the name Olivia, olives don’t really come to mind, to me anyway.

  13. I’ve been 100% correct about the Sun and Moon characters from the first small images. The trial captains are the new characters. MAallow is the new main girl. Lana Has Popplio. Soph has the electric mouse. And Ash with Rowlet. Intersting he’s stayin in Kukui’s home though.. I smell Amourshipping! ;P

Besides, James’ kind nature would be more fitting for Mimikyu’s loneliness, and Jesse only ever had 3 ghost pokemon, James had 2.
Also Jessie had more fighting types.

          Reply
          • Jessie tends to get Poison types (Arbok, Dustox, Seviper) so Salandit? Also think its fits her personality very well

          • Here’s an idea. What if it gets the same role as that Jigglypuff early on in the series? I dont immediately see any of the main characters getting one tbh. Ash might, but its not really an Ash type of Pokemon.

          • The Komala might also ”belong” to the school. Like its technically a wild Pokemon, but usually hangs around near the school because they give it food and the students play with it? Its not close to any character on the poster, so I dont think someone will catch it.

          • Yeah I like it a lot, its so cute but probably quite strong too. And if it evolves (Normal/Psychic imo) who knows the damage it can inflict.

          • Tbh, as long as it’s strong, I’d settle for a pure normal evolution. Normal/Psychic would make sense though, some sleeping pokemon are Psychic (like Abra).

    • I dont think they will actually catch Bewear, but more that it follows them around and gets them into trouble. that sort of thing.

I think James gets Mimikyu and perhaps Jessie a Salandit?

Haven’t watched the new generations yet, in public without headphones, but I saw the preview and I really hate Courtney’s voice.

Anyway, here are my thoughts on the new info:
    – Silvally is a weird name, reminds me of silicon valley, but I’ll get used to it eventually.
    – RKS system makes me soooo happy, as this may mean we’re in for a huge story.
    – Hamako-o and Kommo-o are cool (still), but I wish they would’ve gotten a better ability. Clanging scales should be fun to use though, even if the name is kinda dumb.
    – The Bounsweet evos are pretty cool, even though I won’t use them. The names are very clever though, I commend them for that.
    – Trop Kick is such a fun name, I love it. xD
    – Can somebody tell me the name origin for Ribombee? It sounds weird.
    – Alolan Muk is super cool, makes up infinitely for alolan grimer, it’s a great design, I love the crystals and flowing colors, makes muk feel more alive.
    – M Kanga nerf makes me sad. I love being cheap and using it, and I’ve literally never had it used on me. xD
    – I’m glad they’re revealing more Kahunas finally, but I was sorta expecting a tapu along with it. Anyway, I was hoping they didn’t have type specialties, so I guess that means Hala is a fighting specialist. Or maybe they favor one type but don’t only use that type, idk. Also I really hope that they don’t only use 3 pokemon each, that limit was horrible in XY. I’m scared for the difficulty of this game (but a BF would make up for it . . .)
    – Ilima is female, correct?

    Reply
  18. It seems like Kahunas will have and use specific types of Pokemon:
Hala is likely a Fighting Type Kahuna.
Olivia is obviously a Rock Type Kahuna.

Due to this, it think there might be fourteen Trial Captians and four Kahunas (which has already been proven). Also, I love the added challenge of Trial Captians using Z-Moves!

    Reply
    • Has the 14 trial captains thing been proven? The Z ring thing will be interesting, hopefully they aren’t stupid with it in battle and use it on the first turn. I was hoping for diverse teams for added strategy, maybe to feature the best of the island’s pokemon, but this could be interesting too. Fingers crossed that they don’t all use 3 pokemon only.

      Reply
      • What is proven is the four Kahunas, not Trial Captains! I think you have to pick three Pokemon to use in a match with them. Honestly, I cannot wait to see if it’s actual true or not!

  19. Ok now that I’ve has a few hours on a boat to think things over, here are my thoughts on the new info!
-Silvally has totally grown on me. Only uploads high quality video game soundtracks for sure! The art of it with Gladion is awesome! And R-K-S System? Haha, game freak I love you
-GLADION THEME IS JUST RUN AWAY FROM MYSTERY DUNGEON AND I LOVE IT
-Jangamo-o’s evolutions definitely look better in motion but I’m still not the biggest fan. They are growing on me though.
-TSAREENA IS A BEAUTIFUL FLOWER LADY AND I LOVE HER. I’m stuck between her and Lurantis now. I love both but I just don’t knooow. It kinda looks like another form of Lillagant who I also love. It’s ability is pretty awesome too. ?Great design. Also I’m pretty sure Lusamine is going to have one.
    – Ribombee is precious but I think it is going to have another evolution. It’s cute little scarf and just everything is awesome! I kinda wish my brother wasn’t gettng Sun because I would buy it so I can use another team of Pokemon I love. There are too many good ones!
-Alolan Muk isn’t amazing but better than Grimer.
-OLIVIA IS BADASS AND SHE IS AWESOME
-Llima is only ok now that I know OLIVIA EXISTS

          • You wanna see good graphics? Watch the UB02 trailer again, I still watch that from time to time, and am amazed every time. The best graphics so far IMO.

          • Are you referring to the starter reveal one? I was meaning the one where they show people enjoying every single game. Like I only started with Gen IV but I’m so proud of how far Pokémon has come.

        • The reason I cried was because I literally thought that the protagonist (you) were never going to see your partner and your friends again, I thought that the game would just restart after that. And a year or so later I fell for it a second time.

Rimbombee (or final eve if there is)

  20. Something crossed my mind: we now have the official canon pronounciation of Arceus. You could argue that the anime did that, but the anime actually pronounced it different ways different times. But they can’t switch the pronounciation now, the ability would make no sense.

          • That’s still really cool though, it’s a great narrative that lends itself to development and advancements quite well

        • Yeah we were just talking about setting up a forum thread and everything and then once the game comes out we’ll show what our avatars look like (with annotations if they have features the model can’t display, ranging from height to hair to weight and even to things such as scars and the lack of limbs!) and what are final teams are and then get writing and stuff! If it happens I think it could really be a great opportunity.

  21. Ok, I know it’s a show and this is nitpicking (hasn’t stopped me before =P), but does anyone else think the in-show reasoning for Serena leaving is extremely convoluted? She’s the only girl in the series to show an open attraction to Ash and she’s like, “Nah fam, I’m gonna go to another country for some reason”. I would’ve been more open if she actually accepted the mentorship, but otherwise, since she’s a 10 year old girl with a giant crush, I can’t see her leaving for a lame reason like that. She’d stick to that boy like glue xDD

          • I’d love to hear it when you write it. Would you like to me to post the one I posted earlier for my Tsareena?

          • It’s a bit long, so here we go:

(It contains references to my Popplio, Aphrodite, so for context she starts off unsure about herself, evolves and becomes a confident performer, which goes to her head as she evolves again but she still has a heart of gold)

Like Popplio, Bounsweet (nickname: Persephone) started off a bit unsure of herself, but rather than being unloved she felt scared and was a shrinking violet, as she was a weak Pokémon in her Bounsweet form. Aphrodite fought off a *insert nearest Bug, Fire or Flying Type to where Bounsweet is found in game* and earned a bit of trust, ending in her being caught by my character. She starts off as a bit of a dandere, being quiet and reserved, but evolves when she returns the favour to Aphrodite and defeats a Pokémon away to beat her. She becomes a bit of a deredere, and is happy and free of any thought. She eventually evolves and becomes a superdiva, being standoffish and cold if you don’t know her. She doesn’t want to be seen as nice, but does subtle nice things. Basically, a tsundere.

  22. Wow I didn’t even know mangosteen was a real fruit, let alone the inspiration for bounsweet. And here I’ve been ordering mangosteen madness from smoothie king all this time! 😛 I might name mine Mad Queen

          • Sorry for taking so long, I bred three eggs because Hidden Abilities aren’t assured to be passed on. You want them hatched or egg?

          • Ah, it is, don’t worry, I’m getting mixed up. I thought the 3 things were all governed by items, but it seems HA is the only one that’s natural. It’s been a while.

          • Oh now I got the messages. I’ll have them as eggs, because you’ve already done a lot, and to hatch the eggs would seem a little too much. What’s your Friend Code?

          • Sorry about all the messages, I got paranoid because they weren’t showing up for me e-e

My FC is 2767-2720-7405 by the way

          • I’ve added you now. I’ve got three eggs just in case, would you be okay with that or would you only want one or two?

          • I’m up for anything to be traded, but those Froakies sound nice.

That’s me online BTW, my trainer’s name is ‘Midorya’ because I recently just did a boku no hero academia based run.

          • Oh ok lol. I’m actually debating if I want to watch the show or not because I finished up watching One Punch Man (great show BTW). Anyway, thank you so much for the Dratinis, always wanted to use one!

          • I personally find the show amazing, and it’s only finished it’s first season this year so it’s an easy catch up.

            Also, you’re welcome!

          • Same with One Punch Man, even though it has 12 episodes the action (especially episode 12) is great and fantastic, it’s funny, and Saitama (the main guy) is like one of the best anime characters ever ?. I’ll give Boku No Hero Academia a try sometime soon

I’m planning a diva theme and I have

    Popplio3
    Tsareena
Maybe Salandit, Depends on Final Evo
Maybe Cutiefly, Depends on Final Evo
Oricorio, Sensu or Baile (Depends if I get Salandit or not)

Does anyone think any of the revealed Pokémon for SuMo looks like it’ll fit? I’m good for new Pokémon and Alola Forms, as well as not caring much for type overlap. Trying to avoid another Grass/Fire/Water tho.

    Reply
    • For the moment, assume Ribombee is only 2 stage until we get confirmation otherwise. In which case go for the scarf because that mateches.

Sensu Oricorio would probably make more sense because it’s more glamourous.

      Alolan Vulpix/Nintales are good choices.
Alolan Meowth would also be ok.

      Otherwise Bruxish or Bewear.

      Reply
      • Vulpix and Ninetales look amazing, I might go for it but I think they look more ‘beautiful and mysterious’ then ‘diva’ though.

Yeah, Sensu is the one I’m really wanting to use but Baile looks really done with everyone’s crap and I love it too, just less.

Can I ask why Bewear? It’s actually an interesting choice and I might actually consider using it.

        Reply
        • What even defines a ‘diva’ anyway? I was thinking more of what the Japanese call an ‘idol’, in which case anything glamourous and graceful would be suitable.

Sensu is more flashy because it resembles geisha and baile is more like street dancing, all pleasure, no pizazz.

It’s slightly pink (i.e. a bright, appealing colour), it’s got a headband (which looks kind of like white ribbon, something associated with ballerinas), it’s affectionate, it evolves from a cute thing, and it can move well. Also, all the puns about bear-aoke, it’ll be unbearlieveable.

          Reply
          • Yeah, I guess it’s more along the line of idols in Japan, diva is just easier to use on a western website.

Also, really good points for Bewear. I’m actually considering it if more stuff doesn’t show up 😮

          • Eh, I don’t like watering down Japanese culture to make it easier for westerners to manage. People could use more exposure to culture. I was genuinely upset at the number of people who thought the ‘t’ in ‘tsunami’ is silent ; n ;

The unbearlieveable puns were what really hammered it home right? You better bearlieve it, they’re unbearable XD

Seriously though, I looked at them all, it’s the only one remaining that I could find suitable if you’re not going for an alolan. Plus fighting coverage is good, she can be the elder sister of the idol group. (Or if you’re feeling mean, the grumpy manager XD)

          • The diva was also because the Grass/Fire/Water trio are more literal divas whereas Ribombee and Sensu Oricorio would be more along the lines more traditional idols, having a range of personalities whilst being quite flashy.

You’re really selling me on Bewear e-e

Yeah, the puns have Hammer Armed it in :p

I do feel like Alolan Meowth is a strong competitor, look at it:

          • Ribombee also has a scarf. Scarves are sugoi.

Creative writing use to be one of my things many moons ago 😛

That was terrible, but I’ve heard worse. Have this in exchange:
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ii5bceASvQ

I did also suggest Alolan Meowth, but it depends how Persian turns out.

            Type wise:

            Normal/Fighting:
            -Resists: Bug, Rock, Dark
-Weak To: Fighting, Flying, Psychic, Fairy
            -Immune To: Ghost
STAB on both Fighting (good vs 5 types) and Normal (normal damage to most types)

            Dark:
            -Resists: Ghost, Dark
            -Weak To: Bug, Fairy, Fighting
STAB on Dark (good vs 2 types)

            -Immune To: Psychic

          • You’ve definitely driven Ribombee, Alolan Meowth and Bewear at least into my auxiliary team at least, have you considered a job in sales? :p

            Aren’t all puns terrible?

I’m not too worried about Type match up but another thing I realised is that Bewear does help with Steel-Types, seeing as a lot will be running Ground Type moves and I feel Salandit will be frail anyway.

          • Nope, but I firmly believe in having good, strong, logical arguments, and like I say, I like a bit of creative writing 😛

            Clever ones can be good ; n ;

Normally I’m not either, but it helps with tie breakers sometimes. It depends what you’re most concerned about: dealing damage or not having weaknesses.

Tbh Fighting definately has more coverage at the cost of more weaknesses, and Normal can sometimes be a benefit. Not to mention Fluffy can guard against physical moves Klutz is less useful since AI rarely uses fling though. Dark on the other hand only combats 2 things but it’s got a few less weaknesses. And Technician can be really handy early on in the game when most moves are <=60 Pwr, like Feint Attack, Swift, Bite, and Fury Swipes.

I might have muddied things a bit there. I dunno, just take the facts and try to imagine situations where they will be handy. Personality and character will evolve from those imagined situations and should bring you closer I suppose 😛

          • Nah, you haven’t muddied anything, you’ve actually been a great help since you’ve opened my eyes to more option.

          • I’m always here if you get stuck again.

(Well, not always always, but summon me with the at sign or by replying to an old comment and I’ll appear within 1-2 days 😛 Or just wait until news days.)

      • Creating a database isn’t that simple though, it’s not like a giant spreadsheet. Entity relational databases have to have a well planned set of entities that link up to each other, properly accounting for their relationships (1 to 1, 1 to many, many to many, whether they can be null).

  32. Did anyone else pay attention to the Levels of Pokemon in the Trailer? I noticed that Silvally is at Lv. 53 (battle is likely on Poni Island) and Lycanroc is at Lv. 27 (obviously Akala). Based on this, I think this is approximately how levels will go in the game:
Melemele : Up to Lv. 15
Akala : Up to Lv. 30
    Ula’Ula : Up to Lv. 45
Poni : Up to Lv. 60

Ula Ula island is where red oricorio can be found (red in hawaiin)
Poni is where purple oricorio can be found (purple in hawaiin)
MeleMele and Akala have followed this pattern so far, so I would assume that the other islands follow suit.

          • Basic analysis. In the oricorio trailer, baile is found near a red flower bed. Where can a red flower bed be seen of the map? Ula Ula.

          • Eh, I dunno, it could be, it could equally be brown leaves or something. I think they went a bit too watercolour with the maps in places.

          • No, it’s red. Click on the image and zoom in, or find a better image. Trust me, I’ve analyzed this map to death.

          • Tell you what, tomorrow I will go through all the trailers featuring Oricorio, look at the battles and try to match the backgrounds to the map to see if I can get a better approximation.

At the moment I’m pretty convinced the one with the Volcano is Akala because it’s the best candidate for ‘Lush Jungle’ and that’s where Lurantis is the totem.

That added to the volcano present in the background of Olivia’s battle, and that her cave looks like it might be at the foot of the volcano, indicates to me that that’s Akala.

          • Thanks. I literally scanned the whole map visually and went through every trailer matching up areas because the map wasn’t getting any love.

Now I’m more prepared for visitors though, I still tend not to get many.

I hope to add more info, even if I’ve left it a bit later…

I’m thinking about compiling a list of pokedex numbers or returning pokemon spotted in battles.

          • Hrm, depends.
There are so many it might turn into a bit of a quagmire of info.
I’d rather stick to discecting trailers to find hidden info since that’s something only touched upon by other places.

At one point I was hoping I could rope some of the others in to helping to verify my attempts at translating the Japanese trailers, but that can get quite difficult when half a sentence is missing. It worked for the team Skull one though, we (me, @PercyEspeon:disqus and @DaisukeReds:disqus) discerned the big sister role of Plumeria and Guzma’s history as a failed trial captain before the English trailer was released and revealed it.

    • As a character, yes. As a trainer, I don’t think so. I have a feeling the game is gonna be a walk in the park. But REALLY hoping its not the case.

      • Why can’t they just add difficulty options? It’s a great way to make everyone happy, hopefully since this is a big game we’ll get them. Fingers crossed.

        Reply
        • Why don’t they just add difficulty options? Simple. The did once, and it turned into complete trash. You can’t put difficulty modes in RPG’s because their’s no way to balance it. Your two options are that you either raise levels of the enemy, which is kinda stupid as players will then just grind, or you make pokemon have better moves, which doesn’t really work well in pokemon given the leap between something as simply as a water gun to water pulse can be huge in the early game. It can be the difference of being 2-3 shoted, to 1-2 shotted with a good chance as confusion. At that point the games not so much hard as it is that your enemy’s have resources you don’t have, and thus the only way to counter it is to grind enough that sheer levels outweigh their moves.

The simple, bitter truth is that pokemon is by design an easy rpg, and the only way to make it harder is to basically results in you grinding more, or being placed at a huge disadvantage to the point that it feels like the games cheating.

          Reply
          • I’m not trying to sound rude, when asking this, but what do you mean by effort? My heads basically in a fog from combining four different prescriptions to fight off this cold I have.

          • Cranking up RPG difficulty can be done, but if your class system isn’t designed to allow that then refactoring it to make it achieveable will take a lot of effort (in programming terms).

In English: There’s more too it than numbers, programming is hard and programmers are lazy.

          • Well said. I wouldn’t call them lazy though as its more of a thing of game design as a whole rather then just programming, and that’s a much bigger can of worms. But yeah, pokemon isn’t a game designed to be hard and really unless you build the game from the ground up to be a challenge and balanced in mind for it, your going to have a bad game, which is why we’ll never have difficulty options in pokemon. It would simply take to many resources with not enough of a payoff.

          • As a programmer, believe me, it’s laziness. Laziness is one of the three virtues of programming: http://threevirtues.com/

They could change the type chart to double all resistances and double all strengths. They could change the numbers involved in the stat boosts, they could weight the PRNG (it’s not truly random, it’s pseudo random) in favour of the game and they could improve the AI. It depends if their architecture would allow it and if they would be willing to put the time and effort in.

          • I have to disagree with saying pokemon is an easy rpg by design. It’s definitely not hard, but the older games are much more challenging than the newer ones, so it’s not like it can’t be any more difficult, that’s just ridiculous. Also they didn’t just raise levels, they changed up teams, moves, items, and upped the AI. Honestly it’s a lot more than you’re making it out to be here.

          • I’d argue that the reason that the old games were “harder” was due to the fact that they were poorly designed and generally reflect the era of games they came from, but again I’m sick and I really don’t feel like doing that. I”m just going to leave it as no matter how you really design it, it doesn’t really change the fact that harder difficulties in rpg’s pretty much only encourage the player to grind.

And yeah, your right. They did change up some things like that, but again it comes back to what I said a bit earlier. It doesn’t really matter. It was poorly handled then, and if they did it again it would likely be poorly handled again. And even if they did set up difficulty perfectly the resources that would go into making it would never be justified. It would be something that only a small percentage of the total player base would ever like, especially when you think about the fact that the difficulty would remain in the game long after you’ve beaten it, making the post game grinding, farming, ect. all the more harder.

          • I’d rather have poorly handled than none at all (but personally I thought it was handled well). I definitely see where you’re coming from when you say most hard RPGs require grinding, but I think that there are ways of making a hard RPG without requiring it (personally I love strategy games, so that’s how I’d do it). I also see what you mean by the time put into it not being justified, but that’s the sad truth of it. Same goes for the battle frontier if I’m being honest. They said that it wasn’t in ORAS because the amount of people who would use it wouldn’t be worth it. But hey, who knows, it’s a celebration of 20 years of pokemon so anything could happen, I just need to try to focus more on the fun aspect of the games rather than seeking a challenge. Anyway, I hope you feel better soon!

          • A lot of people just say to turn the EXP share off and it makes it more difficult, but I played through X/Y without it and it was just as easy, honestly.

Plus the big issue is that you can’t just make it set to one pokemon. Imo it would be best to get an EXP share in the main story and in post game get an EXP all so grinding pokemon/completing the pokedex is easier.

        • Yup. But even if they make grinding easier, I wish they would at least make the pokemon levels of trainers higher, knowing the EXP share makes leveling up easier.

Victreebell, Vileplume, Venusaur, Amoongus, Roserade… it was some combination of 3 of these. the maison is out to get you, and it really doesn’t feel fair. It should be random, that way the game cant specifically generate teams specifically designed on wrecking your life, and instead has a chance to do so depending on if you are a good battler or not.

          • I breathe a sigh of relief whenever I see a Furisode (spelling?) girl, as they always use eeveelutions, so they are easy. its whene the veterans come on the scene that I start to panic. “Oh, Choice scarf Terrakion? yepp, that’s cool, go right ahead and be a dick” and then the friggin slowbro….. trick room is a nightmare when you aren’t prepared for it.

          • YUP! I hate the veterans. Focus Sash Entei is what screwed me on my latest attempt ;~; It’s frustrating because Super Singles is the last trophy I need.

          • that’s the first one I got. I really am a singles and multi kinda guy. you could…. cheat your way through with a set designed on taking out singles. after I got my trophy I did that to see how far I could get. I got bored at around the 150 mark.

          • that’s the one. you know, I really hope sun and moon have something better than the subway and maison. we really need a frontier.

          • That’s actually what I’m attempting now that I lost at 49 xD And I believe the Frontier is returning. Too many hints in ORAS.

          • disqus is being a striaght pain in my ass. anyways, i was going to suggest the other team of durant/ninjask/mega kangaskhan. ninjask can pass speed boosts and hone claws boosts to mega kangaskhan, and the accuracy increase really helps those stupid bright powder/lax incense shenanigans the maison likes to cheat with.

          • I used Truant durant with focus sash
Blaziken (mega is optional) with speed boost, hone claws, protect and baton pass
Cloyster with skill link, protect, rock blast, icicle spear.
Basically durant entrainment, blaziken set up hone claws (accuracy boost is useful i find) then baton pass to cloyster to sweep. Icicle spear and rock blast has perfect coverage

          • yeah, cloyster has access to the perfectly accurate icicle spear, which is a multi hit move, with his skill link ability, its a good way to get around focus sash after using lots of shell smash. mega kangaskhan is a nice option if getting cloyster is too difficult, as it has parental bond, but wont be too fast. for my 3rd, I used mega blaziken (or if you are using mega kanga, life orb speed boost blaziken works just as well. something fast that hits hard to retaliate if cloyster goes down.)

  36. I have a big issue with choosing grass type pkmn at first I choose Lurantis, then Morelull it looks derby (kinda creepy) and like those little creatures who appeared on fairy tale and the best part ut can use spore, and Tsareena is damin gorgeous with a good ability …..maybe I need to wait Morelull evolution.

    • I think Arceus comes from word Arche which is “the beginning” “the origin”,and it makes sense since Arceus is the Alpha Pokemon and alpha is associated with the beginning, the first.

Arceus also has Chaos in it if it considered RKS, and chaos is considered origin of the world.

Last but not least, “In the Orphic cosmogony, the unaging Chronos produced Aether and Chaos and made in divine Aether a silvery egg, from which everything else appeared.”
      Silvery egg might explain Silvally.

oh well. my current alola starter comic will do the trick for the moment.

  38. aaaaalriiiight then. It took me a while, but I think I managed to make the team I’d want to use for
    Moon.

    Rowlet
    Silvally
    Wishiwashi
Lycanroc(midnight form) ((I love midday form a bit more but I don’t think I can get it in moon))
Palossand (I love that evil sandcastle ghost ;v; )

amd I guess my last team member is a tie between Lurantis/Tsareena/Mimikyu/Pyukumuku and Kommo-o.
I like dem complicated names XD

    • You could always ask someone with Sun to evolve your Rockruff for you, perhaps evolving theirs in exchange. That’s a pretty nice team though, what type will you use for Silvally?

      Reply
        • Even if it is you just need to up it’s friendship again, depends when you get stuff like Soothe Bell but probably wouldn’t take too long.

          Reply
      • I do like Lycanroc midnight too. I’m getting both games so if I felt like it I could probably just transfer a Rockruff from Sun to get the midday form =P
        I haven’t really thought about Silvally’s typing…maybe Fire or Electric I guess?

        Reply
        • Electric or Fire would give you some good type coverage. Plus it looks cool with those types. I wonder how and when we get the things to change it’s type, and whether the Type Plates are still as available or if they become post-game.

          • That’s really a great thing about Silvally. I love Water and Ghost types too much so I end up with multiples of those types on my XYORAS teams, leaving me very vulnerable xD; so no matter whay, I got Silvally to cover whatever type I need for type coverage

      • I like pyukumuku cuz his name is so funny XD and he’s cute! I do find the idea of it pretending to be all cute and then just straight punching you in the face to be hilarious mwahahaha!

        Reply
        • Oh everything about Pyukumuku is so ridiculous yet hilarious. It’s concept, cry, and backstory always is funny. Which is why it earned a spot right away on my team XD

      • I also like Kommo-o. He’s quickly growing to my liking.
exact like Starstorm here, I was hoping it’d be a Griffyn though so I was disappointed at first, but now I think it’s pretty badass

        • Same, although I’m disappointed we probably won’t be getting a griffin this time around, we got ourselves a Dragon/Fighting type. Screw the fairies, I’ve been waiting for this type combo for so long.

          Reply
          • I love Dragon/fighting. Again, I really like Kommo-o, but I’m still salty about it not being a griffin. Oh well it’s still plenty badass.:p

          • o.k why is everyone so hung up about a griffin
the dang thing was a scaled dragon warrior from the get go, how could anybody POSSIBLY get a griffin
these two could not be more opposite

          • my weird assumption was because Jangmo-o’s face looked like it had a bit of a beak, and then his scales looked more like feathers to me at first. Then I just see Griffin’s as proud creatures which is why I thought Jangmo-o’s dex entry fitted that as well.
You’re right about this, from the get go it was much MUCH more likely that Jangmo-o would end up as a badass warrior.
It’s pretty much after realising that this was the more likely outcome that I started liking Kommo-o much more =P

      • I wouldn’t be surprised if it was. Still it’s certain it’ll be on my team! At least I have a couple of things I want yo use in between getting type:null.
God I can barely wait to see this gen’s shinies!

  39. well let’s see what kinda moves i can think up for Kommo-o
    Scratch
    Leer
    Rage
    Headbutt
    taunt
    Dragon rage
    Bulk-Up
    Roar
    Revenge
    Sword’s Dance/Dragon Dance
    Iron Defense
    Sky Uppercut
    Protect
    Clanging Scales
    Outrage

    Reply
    • Yeah that’s probably expected. Maybe Close Combat and Mega Punch too. Also Dragon Claw might be an option for Kommo-O

      Reply
        • Yeah, I think there is a chance at Iron Head or Iron Tail too. Also if it’s not exclusive to Alolan Exeggutor there’s that new Dragon Type move. Also Dragon Rush wouldn’t surprise me if it turned up somewhere on Kommo-O’s movepool.

          • yeah but the key to making a moveset is not to cram attack after attack, you need to thin it out with status moves and a few that you know it can do not what you want it to do

          • Perhaps these would appear as Egg Moves then. I feel Screech or Scary Face could be in there, as well as Pursuit and Counter.

          • i feel ya yeah but i try to limit to 10-15-20 moves and layer them neatly not just attack after attack

          • Yeah, I just feel like most of these I suggested could be Egg Moves, also Superpower. I’m imagining the breeding chains, Dragonite,, Haxorus, Salamence and Druddigon would provide most of these. I’m thinking Dragon/Monster egg group, or just Dragon.

          • I’m not creative enough to explain how, the move just fits in my opinion.

You realise out of the 7 I listed, only two would actually see use, Superpower and Crunch. The rest are just moves that are typical egg moves, and will likely never see use. If you want to be happy, get rid of the fangs and throw in Endure and Supersonic

          • exactly you’re not, i on the other hand am and i just don’t see how a scale clad warrior could possible conjure up a gig-explosion of sound to damage its foes, and this thing is undoubtedly a physical attack, so why even bother putting it on there, just a aesthetic? its just not a compatible move
and no amount of scale clanging would ever amount to the sheer ferocity of Boomburst

          • That’s my point. Personally I see it being compatible with Boomburst only for aesthetic purposes, despite it being useless, which 80% of egg moves usually are.

  40. Given the general aesthetic of a lot of the Pokémon that GF has been giving Normal as a second typing to a lot of Pokémon the past few gens, does anyone else sometimes feel like Typhlosion looks like it should have been Fire/Normal?

  41. I hope Kommo-o is a special focused fighting type… We really need a proper one of those (not counting Lucario, keldeo or the musketeers and infernape, most of whom are mixed attackers)

  42. Something I’d like to warn: the riddler was obviously wrong about certain things, so we shouldn’t trust him completely anymore. Sadly this means that his hint about battle frontier may be wrong as well. 🙁

  43. Something I just realized. In the part with Hakamo-o it uses an uppercut move. Anyone know what that was? I feel like Sky uppercut would look a little more like it was going into….well the sky….This one however is just a regular uppercut.

  44. I find ribombee quite underwhelming. Even though they showed a brief glance of it in a previous trailer I expected another evo (which hopefully will still happen). When cutiefly was revealed I was ecstatic as it’s first (bug) and second (fairy) favorite types of all types combined and I had (have) great expectations of it.
