[UPD] New Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon Information [SEP 14]

The Official Pokémon site has just updated with information for Pokémon Sun & Moon. The update contains details on the new Ultra Beasts announced in CoroCoro earlier this week.

New Information

  • Official artwork of UB-02 Beauty and UB-02 Absorption released
  • Screenshots of the two new Ultra Beasts in action
  • UB-02 Absorption will appear in Pokémon Sun, the Ultra Beast’s entire body is covered in muscle and punch using the full power of it’s muscle strength is said to be immeasurable. UB-02 Absortpion also uses it’s “harder than diamond” probiscus to attack
  • UB-02 Beauty will appear in Pokémon Moon. The Ultra Beast is said to attract Pokémon regardless of gender, though it is unclear how it does this. UB-02 Beauty is capable of extreme speeds and can move fast enough to avoid lightning strikes

 

More Pokémon Sun & Moon news will be released on September 20th at the same time as today: 9am EDT, 6am PDT, 10pm JST, 3pm CEST and 2pm BST.

    On topic, I hope that Cutiefly’s evolved form gets a proper reveal, and we get the starter evos. My guess is:

    Lugarugan English names and more details on obtaining the forms.
    Cutiefly’s Evo.
    Starter Evo.
    Maybe one brand new Pokemon.
    1-2 Alolan forms.

  7. Have they ever shown new info in a trailer before coro coro is officially released? Does the magazine always get the new info as exclusives so to speak? I do want to see Rockruff evolution in action but id sacrifice that for some new alola forms and starter evolutions. Maybe see more about Samson Oak perhaps??

    • Thing about that is, CoroCoro officially reveals tomorrow. Wouldn’t make much sense to have the trailer reveal the info in the CoroCoro that comes out tomorrow. It works the other way around to show them in action, so we could possibly get some new info we don’t already know.

    • I used to see most new stuff in magazines only once or twice before the games released and then anything else I either saw in the anime or when the games came out. I am very patient though, and the Rockruff evolutions were enough for me for now.

  133. Based this little joke based on the Avatar Last Airbender short about the Dragon Dance on Sokka’s girlfriends for the fact of the setting is based in Hawaii, and that Lilo and Stitch had their fair share of creatures similar to the one that just moved in.

    I hate it but I love it at the same time. I do wish today was more than just 6 screenshots. at least some vague infpo on the beasts and some rockruff evolution stuff

    now I bet next week we’ll see the Rockruff stuff when we probably should have gotten it this week since corocoro revealed it. i’d rather they say nothing at all that d*ck tease me like that LOL

    • Well Derek from GameXplain also said that YouTube may have a flow causing the video to freeze, but its his guess. I just think that they thought the UB info and Rockruff’s evo was too little for a trailer. Let’s see what the 20th brings.

  166. Hey remember when OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire were announced, and I think this Japanese show called Pokemon Sunday were like “We got first exclusive video of the games”. I remember everyone freaking out, then on the day of its release, they just show Kyogre and Groundon in water yelling and then cut to black. And everyone was like “wtf that is it”.

    • Expansion is obviously Gladion. I mean, one of if his hands is out of control and he can’t stop it from shaking. Not to mention his outfit resembles Expansion.

        It’s still the same UB, otherwise why not call one UB-03, so in extension, it has to also be Lusamine.

        • It might more of a story thing rather than them actually being the same entity. Like in Sun the battle with Tapu Koko happens with Expansion (Gladion) and in Moon it happens with Beauty (Lusamine)

          • In Sun Expansion would be coded as UB-02 and in Moon Beauty would be. Again it’d have more to do with the story being slightly different rather than having to be the same entity. I imagine they both exist in in either game. Maybe they go by different names or don’t have names per say in the game they are shown to be fighting Tapu Koko

          • That said, I can’t see the resemblance UB-02 has to Gladion like I can with the others, except the colours, also Gladion, while related to Aether obviously doesn’t actually seem to be bad, despite being in Team Skull, as it seems he rescued Type:Null from Aether, which is obviously the reason for all his tears and scars.

          • Well I’ve had the idea that maybe he’s just undercover as a Team Skull memeber. Also since UB-02 is (in form) called expansion it’d be the typical kind of scenario where they underestimate Gladion as he’s small, but then he basically rips out of what I guess would be a skin suit(?) and then be the massive UB we see here. As it’s name suggests, he’d “expand” lol

          • Gladion’s clothing is ripped on several places and just happens to be of the same colour pallet as Expansion? Yes okay, its probably just a coincedence.

            It would also make zero sense, if all members of Aether (Gladion is clearly ex-Aether) have their own UB counterpart, but Gladion doesn’t. Bit odd if you ask me. But granted, anything is possible with Game Freak.

          • No I think he has his own counterpart, but I don’t think it’s UB-02 Expansion, not with the fact that it’s attacking Tapu Koko, at least not just yet, I feel we’ve got at least 3 more UB’s to see.
            Faba, Wickes, and Gladions possible one if it’s not Expansion. They too may have alternate forms, one resembling them, and one that looks completely different.
            Right now, while I think theres enough evidence to link Lillie with UB-01, and Lusamine with 02 (Beauty, possibly Expansion as they’re both 02)
            I feel Gladions is either UB-03, OR 05.
            Right not Expansion, apart from the colours, just doesn’t fit, at least not yet.

  171. My theory is that the Ultra Beasts are nuclear mutations, possibly from our world considering the portal. Would explain why they’re based on invertebrates as cockroach etc are well known for surviving nuclear fallout. Would also contrast well with the nature theme Alola has.

    Then we got a trailer showcasing Aether Foundation and 2 new Pokémon
    Then we got 2 new UBs and rockruff’s evolution
    We also got new anime info, and Pokemon Generations’ Trailer
    We’re also getting new info on the 14th

    So I’m not disappointer at all that we didn’t get info Today, I remember the huge news drought during XY’s release and in 2015, so I’m perfectly satisfied right now

    • We stopped that awhile ago though, for one. Two, in that moment, most of us were disappointed that they promised news and not much happened, considering when they promise news on a certain date, we get a trailer and updates to the official sites. And three, this was all last minute and we were all shocked by it.
      Believe me, we’re all thankful that they are coming out and we cannot wait. But you gotta admit, it’s a bit disappointing for this to happen when certain people had to suspend their work/school or wake up to see the news and we only get pictures.

      • To be fair this was only really supposed to be info shown in Corocoro. Had it not leaked this would be news. So I would warn against getting your hype too high for the news on the 20th as that is likely to just be about Lugarugan

        • Oh, I didn’t have high hopes for today anyways. Just in-game footage of most of the stuff from CoroCoro. And maybe a little bit of extra stuff. You definitely don’t need to tell me about that 🙂
          But I do believe next week will have more than just Lugarugan. I just don’t expect too much, so I’ll be content with anything.

    • Yeah I’ll just keep my hopes up for 20th. I hope they reveal the starter evolutions, show Rockruff’s evolutions in game and reveal their types. I also want to know if the two evolutions are version exclusive (for sure). New Alola forms and pokemon would also be cool.

  189. Hey so I need some help from those who are experienced with the gen 4 remakes of HeartGold. Mind helping my team, I usually go for a solid Electric (used by my personal favorite Pokemon, Pikachu) Fire, Water, Grass, and Flying types as a staple with the teams I make, and so far for Heart Gold its this:
    -Pikachu {Electric} [Nature: Lonely] Thunderbolt, Shock Wave, Iron Tail, Thunder Wave Hold Item: Light Ball
    -Tysphlosion {Fire} [Nature: Rash] Lave Plume, Thunder Punch, Flamethrower, Eruption
    Hold Item: Charcoal
    -Crobat {Poison/Flying} [Nature: Jolly] Cross Poison, Poison Fang, Areal Ace, Confuse Ray (Mean Look at some moments to get the 3 beasts).
    Hold Item: Poison Barb or Black Sludge
    -Heracross {Bug/Fighting} [Nature: Adamant] Brick Break, Close Combat, Bulk Up, Mega Horn
    Hold Item: Black Belt

    As you can see, I need help deciding on a grass and water type, but I do have an odd pet-peeve, that being aside from a Pikachu, I normally only use the “new” pokemon of that region. So if anyone can help me choose what a good Johto Water and Grass type are it’d be great, or any Johto Pokemon too. Thanks 😀

    • Not many new grass types in Johto (aside from Meganium), you’ve got Sunflora, Bellossom, and Jumpluff. For water, there’s Lanturn, Octillery, Qwilfish, Quagsire, Mantine (HG), Corsola, Slowking, and Kingdra.

        • TBH I was originally gonna use Meganium as I liked it a lot g=design wise, and if I choose a good nature, maybe get one of its stats up to at least 100. The good thing is that Johto has a good fire type in Houndour and Houndoom. I may do a small edit/ update in a moment with that idea in mind after I finish the anime I am watching XD

          • Houndoom is a great replacement for Typhlosion in HG, one of the few useable Dark types in the game too, unless you can wait to get Larvitar.

        • It’s cute, but that’s it. I’ve always picked Chikorita, so I’ve never tried one. I’d probably overlevel a Bellossom if I didn’t have Meganium.

          • Yes if you wanna stick to region-natives Bellossom and Chikorita are your only options. I usually go for Bellsprout if I dont pick the Grass starter because Victreebel is actually a viable Pokemon.

      • I think Quagsire is the best of the water types here, and you don’t have a ground type yet. It is 4x weak to grass, but electricity, rocks, fire, and fighting types don’t hurt it much at all.

    • Are you able to trade evolve? Kingdra or Slowking are pretty great if you can. Otherwise I’d go with Quagsire or Azumarill, even without Fairy type it still has Huge Power. Unless you don’t mind having 2 electrics, in which case Lanturn is great. For Grass you get Bellosom, Jumpluff or Sunflora, unless you can get Meganium I think one of the first 2 is better, my pick would be Bellosom. If you still don’t have a ground type consider getting a Swinub, you can evolve it to Mamoswine which is great even without Thick Fat. Hope this helps, have fun 🙂

      • I’m thinking real hard about dropping my chose of Cyndaquil for Chickorita and use a Houndour as a main fire type as it can give me an advantage over Morty and Will with its Dark typing.

          • That’s good. I don’t have another Gen IV game to trade with/from, so I was just out of luck. What kind of new Johto Pokemon only comes out at night in Kanto anyway? grrr…

          • lol I was the same way when Emerald came out, as I always loved both Sceptile and Blaziken, but no one else in my school would bother trading with me, and my parents never saw a need for getting another GBA. Luckily once I was nearing the end of HS and entering college, I had the option tog et myself 2 3DS’s, and now as a Uni student I have 2 3DS’s (one old and one New 3DS XL) a DS Lite, and DSi PAL region, and oddly a PAL 2DS XD

          • I only started playing Pokemon when I turned 24 (bought myself a 2DS for my birthday), but eventually I got another 2DS. So, I’m at the height of luxury for a 9 year old: two Game Boys! I’d love some more Gen IV games, but they’re super expensive right now. (Only have HG)

    • I’d go for Slowking. Better type coverage, movepool, sp. def, and sp. attack than Politoed. It’s just slower, but you could use trick room

    • well, for starters find a thunderstone ASAP to remove the cancer from your team. second, have you tried corsola? or maybe pull out the heavy octillery?

      • TBH, I liked Pikachu as I got Yellow as my first Pokemon game ever, thus like every person, one shall never abandon their starter. XD So I won’t be evolving her (yes, when I traded it over from Yellow to Gold, it was a girl, amazing!) any time soon. And I have tried Corsola once, and from my stand point its not too good. Octillery seems interesting.

      • Ehh I kind of like Gladion but he’s shrouded in mystery like Lillie. I still think he is Expansion’s counterpart even though a lot of people on PJ think he isnt xD

          • I’m currently going by the fact that Gladion’s clothing is ripped on the same spots as where Expansion’s ”muscles” are bigger and that we saw in the trailer that he has trouble controlling one of his hands from shaking crazy just before battling. Also his outfit is an exact match with Expansion’s colour pallet.

          • It’s possible, although Type:Null already seems to be Gladions focus, I’m skeptical that they’ll also bring in an UB for him.

  206. Ok so here’s an idea that I’ve thinking about for a while. so UBs are said to be a threat and that AF is researching them. It’s clear that there is some kind of connection between the UBs and our three blonde peeps. What if there’s a twist where we’re supposed to think that the UBS aren’t really all that bad and then at the end it turns out they really are? This theory kind of relies on the idea that the UBs are in facts Lillie, Lusamiine, and Gladion. lol So in this theory you have AF trying to figure out a way to stop the UBs. they end up creating a super weapon (or something dumb like that haha) to fight them, but since Lusamine is really a UB in disguise she turns the weapon on everyone else and it turns out she was tricking them into building her a weapon to destroy the region(for whatever reason that may be lol) Throughout the game you’re actually meant to feel like the UBs aren’t that bad as you meet Lillie (a good UB). It’s not a complete theory, but I think there’s definitely something interesting there hahaha

    like Alien, Cosmic, … so that’s why they’re a threat to Pokemon and Humans, because it is a new type and nobody knows how to defeat them yet, so one goal in the game will be to find out how.

We have Arceus a GOD that can be contained…..we have Deoxys, among others, who are aliens that came to earth and they were captured…..For all we knew Deoxys was fully sentient and had a family back home!!!! lol

          • Something related to energy, if we ignore the anime and Ash’s Aura. In games, specially Gen 6, it’s implied Pokemon have a special life energy that other animals and humans do not, this, is probably what makes them pokemon, and therefore catchable.

          • I’d argue it’s more like a Karakuri figurine.

            It’s still mostly gears though, so that does bring the question of what makes an automaton become a pokemon.

          • Ehh I’m not sure if the gears can be considered Pokemon. I think Magearna was the first attempt at creating a Pokeball. I mean, what does a Pokeball do? It transforms the Pokemon into energy so that it can be stored into the balls (alchemy btw)

            My biggest guess, is that they tried to do the same thing with Magearna (or whatever it was called 500 years ago) but instead attached its soul to the pokeball instead of transforming it into pure energy so that it can be stored.

            What was Magearna’s ability again? It powers up its special attack every time a Pokemon in the battle faints?

          • Voltorb isn’t man-made per se, it’s one of the artificial pokemon that was created accidentally.

            ‘Overcharging’ a magnet doesn’t explain it becoming a sentient pokemon (and it’s 2 magnets, 3 screws and a metal ball).

            I’m begining to think some pokemon are closer to yokai and the only thing a pokemon needs is a soul.

  232. I had a dream Komala Had Two splits like rockruff. you evolved by putting ur 3ds in sleep mode in one of two areas. One area would make it a Normal/Psychic Called Lucid Dream Pokemon and One wheres Its Normal/Dark and becomes the Nightmare Pokemon. it was so weird

    • That wouldn’t make any sense. I also think that Rockruff’s evolutions are not version exclusive, because nighttime still exists in Sun and daytime in Moon. Midday evolution is just more common in Sun because it is daytime when most of the people play and vice versa.

            But they put that they were (exclusive) in the main page.. I assume it is for a reason. Specially since his following tweet was: “It’s just so weird how the page yesterday described it all as if it was time based evolution, and then this page just up-ends that.”

      • I was Sun from the beginning. Then Solgaleo came and I was sold, then UB-02 Absorption. Again, I’ll have both versions, just my main character that I model myself after will be on Sun. Then my female character will either be the second Sun version or the Moon depending on how the starters turn out. If Popplio or Rowlet have bad final evolutions then she’ll get Moon version, if I like all three then my other male character will play the Moon version with Rowlet and she’ll have Popplio. Then my main character has Litten.

  246. What if Sun and Moon take place in different dimensions and there is a dimension in the middle that is where Ultra Beasts are from. The middle starts to merge with one of the two dimensions that Sun or Moon take place. The Ultra Beasts try to take over, and Aether is trying to recreate them in their own world. You end up chasing down Lunala or Solgaleo with Team Skull and Guzma because they have the ability to restabilize dimensions, not just have power of the sun or Moon.

  249. Also interesting that Tapu Koko came down when Hala/Melemele Island was in danger.

    So Hala doesn’t actually own Tapu Koko, but as a guardian it keeps watch, and appears when it’s needed.

    Maybe when the player battles Hala, the Island Guardian appears both to assist Hala and also to test the player character’s worthiness.

  254. Bit out there but, I feel the UB’s might have something to do with Infinity/Pokemon Life Energy.
    Though I haven’t come up with an idea as to how or why.
    Maybe cause they can’t access it themselves?
    And Legendary Pokemon would have the most Powerful Life energy?
    Or, Aether brought them here using Infinity Energy, we do know that it can be used to open Portals to other dimensions, The scientists in OR/AS were gonna use that to get rid of the meteor, and it was important to the story of Gen 6, and we still haven’t got a proper pay off for it.
    I dunno just an idea that’s not fully formed.

          • Perhaps, I was going more along the lines that the UB’s seem to be interested in something in the Pokemon World, and Life Energy seems to be a running theme now.
            This may be how Solgaleo and Lunala eventually tie into the games aswell, if Legendary Pokemon have the strongest Life Energy, and we know it’s not an abandondede concept because it’s what powers Magearna.

            Also related, would the normal animals referenced in pokedex entries, also have this dormant life force?
            See my idea was that this life force is what seperated Pokemon from other creatures, and why they can be caught, and how they can use moves, and is why the obvious Alien Pokemon, are still Pokemon despite being alien.

            What would the UB want with it though?

          • And volcanoes will rise out of the ocean and the sky will fall into the sea and a plague of locusts will decend and all your milk will turn sour.

  255. Sun/Moon are reconnecting everything and all the things that happened from Gen 1 to Gen 6 seem to be leading up to Gen 7 and it seems like everything is coming into fruition. I wonder how long this has been planned for, this, “It all comes together” thing.

      You’d be surprised how easy that is when you’ve got lots of time in which to do it.

      • Sounds like my style of writing; make up the plot points as you go, somehow tie it in with past chapters, revise, edit, and proofread twice, then make it cohesive. Honestly, it also helps that the Pokemon Universe is so large and well established yet vague and they probably have decade old files to go back to.

        • I’d rather they made more things set in stone. Leaving it vague forever and creating too many loose threads starts to wear things down.

          They’re almost certainly making it up as they go though, some people are capable of doing that and pulling it off. Stargate SG1 is a very notable example.

    • At least Gen 5 I feel, then from there they made it up, but certainly since gen 5, as 6 and 7 seem to have been planned concurrently, and 6 was in development at the same time as 5 too.
      Gen 5; Try something completely new
      Gen6: Rely on old bits but add a couple of new bits
      Gen 7: combine the 2 ideas

  256. I don’t really think that Pokemon got darker story wise, it became competent. Like, BW isn’t exactly dark, but it’s hands down the best story in the series. That’s because it has

    1. Fleshed out, consistant characters
    2. Has a sensical beginning and end.
    3. Has a dang good villain
    4. Legendaries play a part in the story other than “oooo mah powah”
    5. A theme that can be seen in many aspects of the game.

    X and Y failed on nearly all of these

    • X/Y relied too much on nostalgia, but now I think it was probably cause they were making S/M and needed to test a few things first, and lay seeds at the same time, so we dont’ go “Hey wait there hasn’t been a new pokemon game for 5 years”

    • Legendaries aren’t usually needed for just power though. They are usually sought after to achieve an objective.

      Groudon and Kyogre to increase land and see respectively
      Dialga and Palkia to destroy the world and create a new one
      Reshiram and Zekrom …. I can’t remember
      Yveltal and Xerneas to power the great weapon.

            This is why I make sure to do extensive research before theorising, you’d be surprised what you can learn. Superconductors are used for sciency machines like magnetic resonance imaging scanners, mass spectrometers and particle accelerators.

          • Lol. I know you’re a very technical guy. When I’m writing a comment online though, I don’t bother looking for complete facts if I know the basis of my comment can be understood by most people.

            My work requires me to deal with the layman on a daily basis. If I start getting technical I get a lot of blank looks, therefore I have become accustomed to speaking to people as if they’re idiots.

          • I’ve spent a lot of time on stack overflow/the stack exchange where the opposite is true, they assume everyone to be technically minded and struggle to dumb things down. Plus most of my friends are quite intelligent/technically minded so I’m more used to using technical terms.

          • Kyurem is that gray area. You can’t change the world with just truth or just ideals. You need a bit of both. Which is why when the original dragon split, Kyurem tragically could only fuse with one side, not both

        • I feel as though the Truth VS Ideal with N and the player representing each respective trait was hit straight in the head. Such a great way to tie in the Yin and Yang, Buddhist, and Taoist influences. And the end where N realizes they are total opposites and that neither are really “correct” and yet acknowledges his mistakes and does not blame Ghetsis is so powerful… T_T

    • I would have to say the story played out more like an epic along the lines of The Epic of Gilgamesh than say, a Shakespearian adaptation. However, the story definitely was dark, complex, and several arcs and sub plots that tied in with the main story added a lift the story needed. Element wise, Black and White employed predictable and easy to follow plot points and the structute was very clichè. However, the themes, dialogue, and emotional impact utilizing a great soundtrack to boot made it feel epic, deep, and fantastical. Even if past games dealt with much darker themes, they were never explored as deeply as they could have been resulting in a bland and anticlimactic ending/climax. However, Team Plasma was EVERYWHERE, the NPCs were affected and their dialouge and discourse made it soo much more believable. Additionally, the first scene where you meet Team Plasma as N hides amongst the people and Ghetsis goes on his preach is one of the best scenes along with N’s Castle’s rise.

          • I would have liked it if they’d introduced it instead of mega evolutions, but now we have megas and z moves it seems a bit gimmicky and redundant.

          • I know, you gotta admit concept wise it’s a cool idea, it’s just getting it to work in a way that doesn’t mess things up thats the issue, specially in a game with so much added already

          • Like I say, I’d be more accepting if mega evolutions and Z moves didn’t already exist. But they do, and like I said, if you have mega evo, z moves and synchro then they’ll just end up adding something else in G8 and soon there will be even more rules and battling will get even more complicated.

            Yugioh’s already been down that route. They started with a basic card game with ritual and fusion monsters, then they added synchro monsters and xyz monsters and pendulum monsters, and now most of the original cards are irrelevant and the rule book is 4 times the size it used to be, and people used to struggle with the rules when it first came out.

            To be honest I was perfectly happy without mega evolutions and Z moves. New pokemon, moves and abilities were enough for me. I’d rather they’d done synchro or alolan stuff instead of mega evos, but now we’re at a point where they’re risking overcomplicating things. Players are going to end up with 1 mega pokemon, 1 Z move pokemon and 1 synchro pokemon in every team if they’re not careful.

          • Or, if using Rayquaza the Z move and Mega might be the same Pokemon, also on top of that, Primal, despite being mega basically, doesn’t count as it either, so they’d have Possibly, 1 Mega, 1, Z Move, 1 Primal and 1, I guess we’ll call it synchro, I prefer Z Evolution as a name. So I wouldn’t rule it out, not matter how complicated it would get. But it loooking less likely.

          • I forgot about rayquaza because I boxed it the day I caught it. I don’t know why they chose to make it mega evolve like that, but I presume they felt they had to do it to make it seem more special. Same with primal forms, to be honest I don’t think they really added anything, the pokemon were impressive enough as it was. The only upshot was that Groudon’s typing was fixed. Their abilities are over powered now though.

            Technically they can already have 2 primals and 2 megas if 1 is Rayquza, add a Z move and you’ve only got one normal pokemon left. No wonder official contests have so many extra rules.

          • Still only 1 Mega, as, while Primals you can have more than 1, even without he stone, Megas there can still only be one, so if you’ve used one, you can’t use the second, even if one is Rayquaza. Why they didn’t abide Primals to that rule I don’t know, considering it’s the same basic thing.

          • Primal Reversion fits into the whole Azoth thing. I don’t think they added it persé for battle-ends, but more that it fits into the story overall.

          • I still think the whole Azoth thing is very jumbled. The plot is just bits and pieces rather than a concrete idea.

            They never even explain what resetting the world to the beginning truly means.

          • And then in 3 years they’ll add a new gimmick, and a new one, and a new one, and soon the metagame will look nothing like it did in gen 5 and nobody will know which ability is superior.

      • I like the idea of Z-Forms more than Synchro.. specially if they are based on a specific move. But yeah, whatever for diversity in strategy.

    • Finally!!! Someone who agrees with me!!! If you have a Nintendo Network ID, tell them on Miiverse that you want them to be Pokemon! Lately Game Freak’s been cheating me out of the tropes and mechanics that I grew up with and loved…well, only for a little bit. If they would at least make Pokemon games with a Dark-type gym, new cross generation evolutions and a new Rubber-type to finally fix that rigged type effectiveness chart, maybe then I’ll forgive them…

          • TBH it was an outdated system. It was fine years ago when it was used to organize boss battles, but we really don’t need that anymore.

The main thing that critics were saying about Sun and Moon upon announcement was that the traditional Pokemon formula was beginning to show its cracks and that a drastic change if two would be welcomed. Ultra beast and the removal of the gym system is exactly the change of coarse that this franchises needed. Gyms will mostly return in a future game and that’s great but for right now this is just what we all need. The adventure will still be just as fun and ultra beast serve as a great common enemy for both humans and Pokemon. This is the first time both species will have to join together to destroy a new greater threat that isn’t a powerful human or a powerful Pokemon. This will be amazing.

        Second, formulas NEED to change. If not, the series will eventually fade into obscurity. Gyms are a tired concept. They limit the experience. It’s best to accept these changes now.

There’s a reason people on the outside say that Pokemon is basically the same game over and over again…..it’s because it really is.       • If I wanted something about that changed, I’d sooner email them than tell them on Miiverse. But I wouldn’t want it changed anyway. I’m always open to change because as of now we don’t even know anything about the UBs. They may turn out to be Pokemon; we just don’t know yet. Despite the fact that I would be greatly disappointed if we can’t catch the UBs, I will appreciate their plot significance regardless.

          • That’s true, but I also know that if something is hated enough, they’ll be smart enough to not bring it back. If every game was perfect, why would you keep playing?

            There’s no such thing as perfection. If all the games had no features I disliked, I’d but the next one because it would have new likeable features. Even things with nothing to dislike can be improved.

          • I wasn’t speaking of something specific, but if say, 80% of your consumers dislike an aspect of your product, the most logical option is to get rid of it. Upsetting the majority of your target market won’t bring in the moolah.

          • But they will never do anything that 80% hate. For a start some people will agree with everything they do without question. Then there’s everyone else who all have differing ideas, but it all evens out.

        • Well, plot significance might be the problem of the game itself. It might throw the series off the track and it could be 5 years before they make Gen VIII

          • I’d say it doesn’t matter what the story is in the end. Pokemon is a game that can be summed up as being about a person that goes on a journey and catches Pokemon and battles. It doesn’t really matter if there are gyms or not. As long as it’s in the world of Pokemon anything really goes. And honestly if they continue to make the stories more robust and ever changing that could be great for the series. Then maybe one day they can go back to the gym formula and everyone will be nostalgic about it.

          • If you want boring, and predictable routine, the real world still exists. Pokemon is for the fantastical. It’s supposed to get crazy.

  274. I love the Ultra beast concept. The designs aren’t half bad either. Of course I don’t judge them as hard as I would a pokemons design because UBs are supposed to be alien-like. My only criticism of UBs so far are that none of the three revealed so far are actually “Beastly”. However I hope more will be revealed and I wonder how many in total there will be.. I would imagine there would be around 8 or so and they would get treated like boss battles in-game. I hope they’re really challenging to kill

          • Killing isn’t necessarily graphic. You (arguably) killed Blue’s Raticate. Ghetsis attempted to kill you, and if he had succeeded, the method of killing wouldn’t have been graphic because it was just an intense freezing. And Lysandre was literally trying to kill everyone.

        • But with newer players joining in the mix. We would have a lot more curious minds. They would like to know how Pokemon started off. Besides I always found catching Pokemon on your computer and sending them to your game via the Internet was the freshest experience. That’s why I felt bad that you could not do that X and Y the way you could do it on Black and White, even though it took me a while to get use to Gen V.

            Also, the largest amount of sales for XY was college age. Pokemon needs to real is this. They keep making the games easier in hopes to bring in kids, but maybe instead of catering to a flaky audience, give your largest fanbase what they want. Idk, I don’t run a company, but it seems to me what they were doing wasn’t working, and their answer was SM.

  275. I’m going to be pretty upset if we can’t catch and train the UBs. Its a waste of time (with designing/coding as well as playing against them in the game) in my opinion. We have had weird alien legendaries before (Deoxys, Giratina) so I’m pretty sure we will be able to catch them and train them.

  278. Ok, these are just some ideas and in no way serious theory stuff but here’s the thing:

    -First of all it’s strange that UB-Beauty is version exclusive if UB-character match up thing is real deal since Lusamine seems to be an important character in both versions. This means either there’s no such thing, or these character match up doesn’t have an importance in the story or there’s another thing going on.

    -I personally think UB02 forms represent the concept of the versions, or specifically box legendaries in a subtle way. We have an aggressive looking, powerful, masculine, juggernautish UB on the one hand and elegant looking, mystical, feminine, sleekish UB on the other hand.

    -I thought that maybe Lusamine based her appearance on UB02. There was an ingame text that says how beautiful Lusamine looks or something like that and UB02 form is named beauty. Maybe she’s fascinated with it and tried to look like it. It’s just another perspective.

          • I honestly wouldn’t be too surprised, I would say I don’t see them doing just a video on it’s evolutions but they did a 40 second video on the ultra beast so I wont hold my breath. Nintendo master of crushing expectations lol.

            Although GameFreak does some trolling things too. They once sent Junichi Masuda, Shigeru Ohmori and Shigeki Morimoto, three of the most important developers (Masuda has been director for all games from Crystal to XY, and producer for ORAS and SM, Ohmori is director for SM and was for ORAS as well, and Morimoto was director for the games before Crystal iirc) and all we found out was there’ll be more than ten new Pokemon.

    • Black and White and Black and White 2 are some of, if not the greatest games in the pantheon of Pokemon games. The story, gameplay, genius mechanics, and how it pulls everything together into a nice bundle of joys is just unprecedented! The pinnacle of Pokemon for the main games!

          • What are you talking about? Stunfisk is the most quality designed pokemon ever created on god’s green earth. Every inch of the creature is dripping with creative levels only measurable to Leonardo f*cking deVenci only he died and became an immortal super being who rips the roofs off of houses and teaches families how to paint. Stunfisk represents everything humanity has achieved. World changing technology, fighting plagues, building massive cities, leaving our own planet, it is the sum of what is possible pushed into the loving eyes of a pokemon. Stunfisk is Gamefreak’s gift to the entire planet. And it is about damn time that we appreciate it.

          • I kinda find Stunfisk a rather tough Pokemon to deal with in battle, especially since it has the Static ability. If my opponent sends out a Pokemon that has an ability that could affect mine on contact, I would usually fight with the utmost of care.

          • Hey, you plank! I thought the designs for the Pokemon looked cool. I was only discouraged form getting the Gen 5 games at first because the original Unova Dex had no Pokemon from other regions and there were no cross-gen evolutions. But as time passed by, I began to realize that I can get all the Pokemon that I want through the Internet. Whenever I think about a new Pokemon generation, I would only care about new mechanics in catching Pokemon, who I would fight to enter the Pokemon League, and battling other players.

  287. When you realize if Black and White 3 come out then Cedric Juniper will have probably already died, Bianca will probably replace Juniper, Benga could possibly be the Champion, and Cheren will have never gotten the rematch he so badly wanted with Hilbert… ;C
    Ughhhhh all this reminiscing about Black and White/Black and White 2 makes me want to cry… such good games!!!

      • Best moments for me in Black and White:
        – The piano theme that accompanied the moment where Bianca’s Dad comes to get her and Elesa intervenes and Bianca begins to cry
        – Route 8, near Tubeline Bridge when you defeat Bianca for the final time and she realizes Pokemon battling is not her thing and although she tries to hide her tears, you can tell how depressed she was
        – Route 10 and Victory Road when you defeat Cheren and after having worked so hard for so long, realizes he’s just not that strong and wonders what went wrong
        – N’s Castle rises out of the ashes of the League and Alder pleas to N as Team Plasma corner the very bedrock of the region
        – Zekrom/Reshiram cutscene and N’s resolve after you defeat him
        – Ghetsis showing his true colors and throws N under the bus and battles you which was a surprise for me back then
        – Alder’s talk about the death of his Pokemon and how it affected him so much to the point where he doubts his Champion title and mocks himself for being so weak
        – Ghetsis’ and Team Plasma’s first appearance in Accumula Town and his speech that followed and the crowd’s reaction which starts a chain reaction in the region
        – Last but not least… EVERYTHING

      • Oh my god, I would have loved Pokemon Black & White even better if they had Hilda interacting with Ash and even flirting with him for a bit in the anime. She even could’ve had a girly, yet tomboyish and cheerful personality. She could have been voiced by Anna Hachimine in the original Japanese version. It would have also been exiting if has had like at least ten Pokemon in rotation and each of them had nicknames, such as an Oshawott (her starter pokemon) nicknamed Tricky. I don’t mean to sound wierd, but I always found Hilda the most attractive of all the girls in the Pokemon franchises. In the anime, she would have also been know for swimsuit modeling.

          I may be projecting a bit, but I’ve always has a head canon that Hilda was a lesbian and had a thing for Bianca. I feel like Bianca got so much development from the player that there was kind of a relationship there. More than likely though, they are just friends. Which is probably better character wise. idk

  306. Honestly, the general consensus on the UB’s seems to be meh. Nobody is thrilled they are included- nobody asked for something like them. They’re designs are alright. They’ve added some level of intrigue and upped the hype a little. But honestly, I’d rather discuss new Pokémon than the UB’s.

    • I don’t mind them, tbh. It seems to me like a lot of the criticism is centered around ‘but they don’t look like normal Pokemon’…well yeah, because they aren’t Pokemon. They’re clearly more of a plot device/NPC thing. If people don’t like them, that’s cool, but they should at least understand what they are/aren’t before hating them.

      I personally think it’s intriguing that the UBs are not introduced as Pokemon, yet Type Null is. Someone is clearly playing God in these games and I’m dying to know what’s going on. Usually I’m only interested in the new Pokemon/region in pre-release season, so it makes a change to be interested by the plot too 🙂

    Also, September 20th’s update will also reveal the Tapu of Akala Island, plus more new Pokemon, plus more Alolan forms, plus a few new Mega Evolutions, plus some new Baby Pokemon, plus Marshadow.

  310. i have a theory that we wil get 8 or 9 Ultra Beasts. I think that the ultra beasts are based on the 7 deathly sins or the 9 circles of hell. I also think that we might get a rat Ultra Beast or/and a fly Ultra Beast. XD
