Mega Rayquaza has been confirmed in the ongoing stream for Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire on niconico and in an all-new trailer for the games.
Mega Rayquaza will gain the ability Delta Stream. This Ability protects all Flying Type Pokémon, halving their flying type weaknesses(such as electric, ice, rock). Delta Stream will also cancel the effects of any abilities that introduce weather to the battle, thanks to the new Strong Winds weather condition it introduces. Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Sandstorm, and Hail will fail if Strong Winds is active.
Mega Rayquaza also gains an exclusive new move: Dragon Ascent. The move has one of the highest power ratings of all Flying-type moves. Dragon Ascent is not only powerful, but looks amazing.
Almost all of Rayquaza’s stats receive a boost when the Pokémon Mega Evolves.
I believed one of both would occur (Primal or Mega). It’s cool to see that it’s Mega. Also, It looks freaking amazing with it’s Giratina-like mouth and golden strings dangling around!
Something that has been bugging(not in a negative way) about Mr.R:

The only reason I could come up with is that it has something to do with Rayquaza’s new signature move Dragon Ascent in Japanese: Garyou Tensei, which is a idiom that means something that wraps it all up. It’s etymology comes from a story about a chinese artist drawing a dragon, and how it draws it’s eye last, resulting in it descending into the heavens. Obviously a fountain pen wouldn’t be used for that, so I’m not really sure.

At first, I was like “What the hell Game Freak? What is this ****?!” when I saw Mega Rayquaza. I thought it was the ugliest Mega Evolution ever created. But now, upon closer inspection and learning about it’s abilities, it looks like some kind of god.
Because of Delta Stream, does that mean that Rayquaza’s weaknesses are Dragon, Ice (x2), and Fairy? Also, is it safe to assume that this is Rayquaza’s only Mega?

It was never explained about the 4x weakness to Ice. But yes, every other type that it has a 2x weakness to will be nullified.

Oh wow. In my excitement, I forgot it only said it nullifies Flying type weaknesses. So, Rock type attacks will do regular damage and Ice type attacks will do 2x?

That makes sense, but why doesn’t Fairy count? As a Dragon Type, isn’t it still weak to Dragon and Fairy (who knows what happens to Ice).
Yes. Because the weather effect only takes in account for flying weaknesses and nothing else. It will be x2 ice dragon and fairy.
The ability for Rayquaza to call in Strong Winds makes extremely good sense! Don’t you think? The area where Rayquaza lives is probably way above even the Jet Stream in the atmosphere. And the ability for it to Mega Evolve and call in these Jet Stream like winds to nullify Flying type weaknesses is just so… OMG! I’m sorry Rayquaza about what I said about your Mega Evolution being ugly. 🙁
In Non-Rayquaza (but still Pokemon-Related) News, the XY Anime updated their Opening. Still has the same music, but with a few new scenes in it.

Some thing that I found reading the Japanese version of the folklore for Rayquaza: They consider Rayquaza god(They explicitly say the people of Hoenn worshiped Rayquaza as a god).
I wonder how the inabitants of Hoenn would react if they found out that Giratina might be catchable in what I call “Distortion Island”. >:D

What happens to this ‘energy’ when Rayquaza stops the fighting and why didn’t it affect any other Pokemon at the time?
Wait. Can the Weather Trio have their Signature Moves in their Regular Formes? We’ve only seen them use them in their new formes? Will it be like Black and White Kyurem where one of the moves is replaced with a signature move upon Mega Evolving/Primal Devolving?
They were revealed to be Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza’s signature moves.
They did not specify the primal and would definitely not be exclusive to the Megas.
