PJT ’14 – Tournament Format Update & Participant Confirmation

Much, much later than we wished to, we’re bringing our readers the penultimate update on the 2014 PokéJungle Tournament before the first battles commence. We’ve decided to make some changes to the format of the tournament to help with how it’ll run when we begin later this month.

PJT ’14 Format Changes

At the end of May we announced that our tournament would run over five rounds, with players earning points in each round and the top 8 players after all rounds proceeding to three elimination rounds, this has now changed.

The changes we’ve made have been done so to remove the pressure of having to be available for the entire period of the tournament. Players will now be placed into groups, in these groups every player will battle one another once. When all battles have been completed (and tie-breakers completed if necessary) the top player from each group will move forward into the elimination rounds.

Players will need to confirm participation below so we can finalise groups and group balancing before the start date of the tournament. Group stage battles will take place over the same dates as the Rounds were previously planned to take place, with a maximum of three groups battling at any time. All match-ups posted before now are to be ignored.

As it stands any drop outs will no longer be filled by stand-ins, until we announce otherwise.

We have also decided to push the tournament start date back. This is to allow participants time to confirm their entry (see below) and for us to finalise players in each group.

Lavender, Camphrier & Driftveil Group Battles – July 23 — July 27
 Canalave, Sunyshore & Cinnabar  Group Battles – July 28 — August 1
Ecruteak, Fallarbor & Lumiose Group Battles – August 2 — August 6
Goldenrod, Undella. & Rustboro Group Battles – August 7 — August 11

Final Elimination Rounds – August 13 onwards.

Participant Entry Confirmation

It has been a while since we first opened sign-ups to the tournament, and it’s likely some of those who signed-up are now unable to take part, or simply do not wish to. As such we’ve decided that participants must now confirm their entry using the form below by July 17. Those who do not do so will be removed from the tournament and unable to participate. If you have changed your username since this list was created please inform us and we will change it accordingly.

  7. So the tie would apply if both players had one Pokemon left with no attacking moves? Or what? Cause they could still go to Squabble or whatever.

  9. You know what, I hope that there’s some nod to Juan in the Sootopolis City gym. Stevens the Champion in ORAS and I just think that it would be cool if, say, there was a trainer in Wallace’s gym called Juan who says “In two years, I’ll be running this gym” or someone like that.

    • :/ But the third games (discluding BW2) aren’t in the the timeline technically, they’re alternate timelines. BUT if Delta Emerald does become a sequel, it could happen.

    • Or, have Steven be the champ the first time through. Then on subsequent visits to the Elite 4 (which then becomes stronger), Wallace is the Champion. You find the Beldum in Steven’s house with the Metagrossite, with a note saying he’s stepped down from the Champion’s position to do some soul searching, yada yada. Steven Stone has become a super boss in Meteor Falls. And, you do some sidequest meeting Juan from a Pokenav call, and when you re-battle Gym Leaders, Juan becomes the 8th Gym Leader rematch.

  19. Does anyone think/know if nintendo/pokemon will add a new video or coverage about the new info we got from corocoro?

        • Get tv? Most likely never from there. And corocoro is a japan only magizine so they will most likely be the only one’s to get officaly anouncced for a while. Maybe in a nintendo direct or a pokemon direct.

          • last time we got coro coro pokemon showed us the news in a video the day after corocoro around get tv, to internationalize the news to the world.

  25. So if you’re place in a group and you could only battle one of the 4 days available, would that mean you have to find as many people in your group to battle to earn points? There’s no hour limit on the days right (i.g. from 7am-7pm)?

    • There are no specific hours in which you can battle no. You’re basically going to have to battle everyone in your group in the slots.

      I’ve realised however the slots should probably be a little bigger. I’ll amend the length of them tomorrow.

      The benefit is though, groups will have few people in them, so it’s a little easier to arrange battles. Rather than how it was previously where you had to find a time to battle over a large time period. Now we’re sort of being stricter on how long people have so the tournament runs smoothly rather than drawn out.

      It’s probably going to be that if you can’t battle someone within in the slot because you’re unavailable then it’ll count as a loss for you and a win for whoever you couldn’t battle.

      Hopefully that makes sense? I’m literally about to sleep so sorry if it doesn’t. Leave me a reply and I’ll get back to you when I wake up! 🙂

      • Ok it makes great sense! Thanks Moving! 🙂 one last question, so if you were trying to find someone to battle in your group but they were only available if the first half of the day but youre only available the secind half and vice versa. What happens then? Sorry for being so specific(?).

        • Hmmm, well, you’d have to find the best time to battle perhaps another day. It’s all a little awkward because there are so many people from so many different places.

          I’m going to extend the battle periods for each group today, so everyone has more than enough time to battle everyone else in their group.
