Jungle Talk: Smash Bros

It’s less than 24 hours until the Smash Bros Wii U/3DS Nintendo Direct airs! We are just as excited as you are!

We normally don’t cover other Nintendo news, but seeing as there’s a good chance something Pokémon related will get shown, we’ll make an exception this one time. So we’re asking you, which Pokémon do you think they will show as an additional character? Think they’ll bring back Mewtwo, possibly its Mega evolution? Will they do away with the Pokémon Trainer and Jigglypuff? Or maybe a Gen VI Pokémon to tie in with the recently released games?

Let’s speculate! Try to keep discussions related to Pokémon please, but we know it’ll be hard to contain your excitement. Check back soon for more Gen III articles.

          • Step one: Team Building
You need to figure out a team combination that can serve multitudes of purposes, You’ll want some kind of front lining support to set up hazards or perform a different function, you’ll need something that can Deal Damage either specially or physically something that can take a hit is also good, you just need to figure what Pokemon works best with you and you alone otherwise what’s the point
so try some combinations and experiment

    • Evs are effort values
When you defeat a pokemon you gain a set amount of EVS into a stat, to know how they effect stats you need to know that 4 Evs make 1+ in stat. There are 252 Evs total into a stat possible and 508 for the amount of Evs into a pokemon

      IVs are individual values
They are gained upon hatching or being caught and cannot change. The parents can pass on Ivs via the destiny knot and the total for each stat is 31 which can go into every stat.

Natures are what depends on the boosted stat or not so for example modest boost special attack and lowers attack. Natures can be passed on along with abilities via a everstone when breeding. Keep it in mind that natures have a 30% of not being the parents when using the everstone

Egg moves are moves that are inherited by the parent and there are a limited amount of eggs moves like how morning sun can be bred into a growlithe

      • Some pokemon can have a speed tie in battling where the pokemon has the same speed stat, the calculator who decides who goes 1st is a 50/50% chance.

Items are the most core function to battling since they are used to utilise a pokemon to its fullest potential
        Some notable ones are

Focus sash:the pokemon is left with 1HP when it’s struck with a move that would usually knock it out

Life orb: the pokemon does more damage but takes recoil damage

Choice specs:raises special attack substantially but allows only one move to be used

Choice band: raises attack substantially but only allows one move to be used

Choice scarf: raises speed but only allows one move to be used

Leftovers: recovers 1/8 of the pokemons health every turn

White herb: recovers a lowered stat

Power herb: cuts out the charging in charging moves such as solar beam and skull bash

Destiny knot: when you get infatuated you reflect it back to them too(can be used to pass Ivs too when breeding)

Quick claw: 30% chance to move first when holding it

Toxic orb: poisons the holder badly

Flame orb: burns the holder badly

        • Abilities come in many shapes or forms but the most notable ones are hidden abilities for example,
Sableye either has stall or pressure for its normal abilities (stall makes it move last, pressure increases the opponents pp usage) but it’s hidden ability is prankster(the pokemon moves first when attacking with a non damaging move)

        • Well that’s just natures and Items
          Nothing about team building
          Typical Competitive movesets
          Checks and counters
          Anticipating your Opponents moves
          That kind of jazz

Like I said before there’s really no right or wrong way to build a team, but then again there can be faults such as common weaknesses, stats and abilities and what that specific Pokemon can do, it’s all about synergy and experimentation and Balance.
You need to Gather different types of Pokemon and study what their roles can and should be
IE Mega Charizard Y a Speedy Special Sweeper
            Ferrothorn Trap laying physical wall
            Espeon set up special sweeper
you just need to gather Pokemon that work well together and see how they play out (their are no right or wrong answers)
            a Typical team as
            Physical Sweeper
            Special Sweeper
            a Wall
            a Crippler
            and Support
But not always that kind of order, but some people like myself like to build a team where it can counter any type with the right Pokemon and can deal with your weaknesses
            it’s all about experimenting

      • Often Traps such as Stealth Rock, Spikes, Toxic Spikes
Ferrothorn and Skarmory are one of the most used Defensive walls

        Reply
      • Defensive pokemon are pokemon that deal with threats by soaking up the damage and are often called walls. The pokemon can either stall or force switch by threatening the oppanant.
Milotic is my Staller what it does is toxic then protects to gain health from leftovers, then if they are gonna hit me I recover then protect and repeat recover and protect until toxic kills them

        • Differant pokemon are in differant classes they are

Walls: pokemon that soak up damage and complete stop offensive pokemon

Sweepers: pokemon that have Very high attack and are capable of destroying teams if not dealt with

Revenge killers: pokemon that switch in after yours faint and so they finish the pokemon off(pokemon with the moxie ability is good for this)

Stallers: they fit under the wall category but they literally stall until their oppanant falls to status effects or weather sometimes

Taunters: to understand this set you must understand what the move does

Taunt: stop the pokemon from doing non damaging moves

They switch in and taunt pokemon who use status moves a lot and they are difficult to use

            Physical sweeper
            Special sweeper
            Physical wall
            Special wall
            Revenge killer
            Pokemon of choice

          • The pokemon must work together with their weaknesses for example a garchomp would need a wall that resist ice or fairy so it can be safe

  1. Condensed it all into one message for you

    Evs are effort values
When you defeat a pokemon you gain a set amount of EVS into a stat, to know how they effect stats you need to know that 4 Evs make 1+ in stat. There are 252 Evs total into a stat possible and 508 for the amount of Evs into a pokemon

This may seem difficult but let’s water it down a bit:
When you beat a pokemon you gain some Evs for example a weepingbell gives 2+attack. When I beat two I get 4 attack EVs which makes 1+ attack so my 151 attack is now 152.

Cleric: heals the members too with aromatherapy and wish and aren’t used as much but pokemon like meganium and aromatisse fit this category ect

  2. However it’s not really a good pokemon, just look around about the stats and on smogon since, they may be a bit off but it’s a good idea to check out what some people are using to get an idea what pokemon can be used as a special wall

  3. Remember when someone won last years nationals with an amoonguss? Yeah smogon put it to OU now. Funny isn’t it?

  4. I can’t wait to see what tutor moves the gen 6 pokes can learn. Superpower Diggersby will be boss. If Azumarril can get it I’m sure Diggersby will be able to. Sky Attack Talonflame, It’ll be sweet if Delphox gets Giga Drain. Elemental Punches for Pangoro.
