Could Pokémon come to iOS & Android?

Nintendo reported their third straight loss to investors, and it seems as though they may be willing to seek new ways to make profit.

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s president, said he would continue to run the company and added, “We are thinking about a new business structure. Given the expansion of smart devices, we are naturally studying how smart devices can be used to grow the game-player business. It’s not as simple as enabling Mario to move on a smartphone.”

As iOS and Android devices have gained market traction and improved hardware, they’ve been seen as direct competitors to Nintendo’s handheld consoles. Mobile gaming applications often cost only a couple of dollars, much less than traditional handheld games.

The Pokémon Company has released some apps for mobile devices, including their 3D Pokédex and a Japan-exclusive simple rhythm game which tied into the trading card game, but they have never released other games.

We’ll have to watch Nintendo’s strategies closely. Would you like to see Mario, Zelda or Pokémon on your phone or tablet?

  6. I’d love to see a Pokemon TCG on a smart phone. It’s one of those games which I’ve always wanted to play but never got the chance too since I didn’t have friends to play with. TCG on the PC is too much of a hassle. I’d much rather play it on the go. Hopefully it comes out! 😀

  23. If nintendo tries making nintendo a phone game company they will fail and if they don’t pull the plug on the wii U they will fail and will become a 3rd party company like sega. Please nintendo we will beat this together.
