The Pokémon Plus & Pokémon Minus Rumors

Although I’m covering this news story, it’s by popular demand. I don’t believe any of this and I highly recommend that you do not either.

The site DualPixels (which has since crashed) claimed to have gotten “information” from a leaker about Generation VII. They claim:

  • Two new games are codenamed Pokémon Plus & Pokémon Minus, could be final
  • The battle system is going to be re-worked completely and simplified
  • New region is based on Southeast Asia, may have islands
  • GameFreak is trying many new ideas out that they’ve been holding onto
  • “Three new starters with no names: Water evolves into Water/Steel and is a squat, teardrop shaped humanoid that has a jar filled with on its head as it evolves it grows taller and the jar bigger until it needs another set of arms to hold it on it’s head. Fire evolves into Fire/Fairy and is a tiny cute goat with fire blowing out of its horns, it’s horns and look evolves more menacing until it has curly ram like horns and a motorcycle hot-rod-like look. Grass evolves into a Grass/Electric and starts with a leap for a face with a nubby root as a body and evolves until it grows into an electric producing palm tree with each flower petal having a different face.”
  • “The main legendary for Pokemon Plus is a Shi Foo Lion-looking Psychic/Ground-type that has multiple faces, the Pokemon Minus legendary is a Ghost/Fairy type that has two dashes for eyes and is a hurricane-like appendages with many arms and hands.”
  • “The new “Team” villains are described as a bunch of “Sohei Zelots”-types who have discovered the player’s best friend as a reincarnation of a special type of person who only is alive every 100 years. They believe the old system where people were given a Pokemon egg and they stick to that Pokemon until they die and who’s function in society dictate what role that person is. They are against the “modern” trend of Pokemon Trainers and capturing multiple Pokemon and are making a holy pilgrimage to evoke the old Legendaries to turn everything back to normal. They keep the player away from their friend, saying the special one (who can do amazing things like mega evolve Pokemon without the use of a mega ring) only love is that of Pokemon and not people. It is planned to be reveal later that for the special one to fulfill their role in society they must be mortally sacrificed to awaken the legendaries.”

  20. To this day, there are still some parts of the type effectiveness chart that I still don’t understand. For example, why is Poison weak to Ground, and why is Dark weak to Bug?

  22. Sometimes I wonder why Pokemon with a sub type that’s the same as the attacking move’s type don’t resist it, like how Ground type is super effective against Nidoking, even though he’s Poison/Ground. (I know Ground doesn’t resist ground, but it should.)

  24. I could spend an entire dissertation debunking every aspect of these obviously unreal rumors. I won’t, though, because nobody’s interested in me pointing out how clearly fake these are. However, I will address a few things about them that I particularly am irritated with:

    1. The battle system is about as simplified as it can get. There’s nothing that complex about it; I’m amazed that there are apparently people who think it needs to be “completely reworked” to be even more simple.
    2. A region based on an island chain is a horrifying idea; the worst part of Pokemon games, in my opinion, is blindly Surfing across an endless expanse of identical-looking water routes. Hence why Hoenn is my least favorite region. As far as I’m concerned, the fewer water-based routes a region has, the better off it is for it.
    3. As usual, the starter and legendary descriptions sound like gratuitous fanfic creations. There’s nothing very noteworthy about them.
    4. I imagine the “leaker” used the phrase “Sohei Zealots” in order to make himself sound smart. The supposed evil team sounds interesting, but extremely out of place in a Pokemon game; it would most likely result in the games being rated E10+, and possibly T, which would be a death sentence as far as Nintendo of America is concerned.
    5. “Could be for Wii U.” Excuse me while I laugh myself into a coma. The day Pokemon’s main series games abandon handheld devices is the day the franchise dies.

  25. In all fairness, IF we do get a Pokemon title for the 3DS this year, or next, I do hope it’s Ruby and Sapphire remakes.
