The very first Pokémon is set to air in North America on Cartoon Network on January 4th at 8:30 am (confirm with your local listings). The movie has been digitally remastered and should be a real treat for older fans of the series who may have seen the movie when they were younger.
Movie Synopsis
Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, had ambitious plans to take over the world, involving his latest experiment, a powerful clone of Mew—Mewtwo. Mewtwo is very powerful, and also very smart—smart enough to not want to be controlled by Giovanni. It escaped from the lab, and now Mewtwo begins to concoct its own scheme, clandestinely inviting a number of Pokémon Trainers to the ultimate test. Of course, if it’s an event for talented Trainers, Ash Ketchum will be right in the front row!
Ash’s excitement turns to fear and anger when Mewtwo reveals its plan for domination, creating powerful clones of all of the kids’ Pokémon so it can even the “imbalance” between Pokémon and their Trainers. Despite Ash’s protests, Mewtwo refuses to believe that Pokémon and people can be friends. The graphics and voices may change, but will they fix those errors? For example, some guy in the movie called his Pidgeot Pidgeotto, and Team Rocket mistook a shadow of Scyther for Alakazam.
I think the Team Rocket part was done intentionally to show that not everyone can guess the “whos that pokemon”…
But the pidgeotto bit was def an error

I have the original movie and the animators said they left that last one on purpose. They thought it would be fun for kids to realize Team Rocket’s, specifically Meowth’s mistake.
I admit that is funny. I just never knew it was a joke. Glad to know now. Thanks!

The only two Pokemon movies that ever felt like actual movies for me were the First Movie, and Entei’s movie, the 3rd one I believe.
Every other movie just felt like specials to me. I may just be blinded by nostalgia though.
