RUMOR: TESCO Reveals Nintendo NX Launch Price?

UK retailer TESCO has added the Nintendo NX to their website in anticipation of its upcoming launch and also added a price: £349.99 to be exact (~$450 USD). It has since been removed, but could be an indication of what the system will retail for at launch or it could just be a placeholder.

For comparison, the Wii U’s premium set launched for $100 less, at $350. Fans may want to start saving now if TESCO’s page was accurate or at least in the ballpark. We also know that Foxconn, a giant Chinese electronics manufacturer, is testing NX production already.

What do you think? Too pricey?

  1. Lmao the state of this

”I have some info about these boats”

Magikarp boat will take you to the Kanto resort, where you can battle several NPCs who show up there randomly. Red, Blue, Leaf, the gym leaders, E4 and Lance. Oak will give you one of the starters

Steelix submarine will take you to the Johto resort, where you can battle Ethan, Lyra, Gym leaders, E4 and Archer. Professor Elm will give you a Johto starter

Huntail ferry will take you to the Hoenn resort. Brendan, May, Wally, gym leaders, E4 and Steven can be battled and Prof. Birch gives you a starter.

Whiscash ferry takes you to the Sinnoh resort, where Lucas, Dawn, Barry, gym leaders E4, Cynthia and Cyrus can be battled. Prof. Rowan gives you the starter.

Wailord line takes you to the Unova resort, which is split in two islands, Black Island and White Island. The Black Island NPCs include: Hilda, Hilbert, Cheren, Chili, Cress, Cilan, N and Alder and the elite 4.
White Island NPCs include: Nate, Rosa, Bianca, Hugh, Iris, Zinzolin, Ghetsis. Prof. Juniper and her father are also on this island and will give you a starter.

Kalos doesn’t have a resort, instead after collecting 50% of the Zygarde Cells and shown them to Dexio and Sina, they will offer you to travel with them to Southern Kalos Island which will have a couple of new towns, a forest and a cave where 50% Zygarde resides. After capturing Zygarde, several NPCs will appear in Sunnete City and can be battled like on the other resorts. The NPCs include: Calem, Serena, Trevor, Shauna, Tierno, gym leaders, elite 4, Diantha, Lysandre and AZ. Additionally, Sycamore is also present and will give you a Kalos starter.

  2. It’s worth noting that companies do not price their consoles by saying, “ok we well it’s £350 in Europe, so according the US exchange rate we have to sell it for $450 in America.” I’m expecting the NX to be no more than $400 but likely $350 in the US.

  3. So…this would include a home console *and* a handheld? Because I guess that would be reasonable. £250 for the home console, £100 for the handheld.

Tbh I was hoping that if future Pokemon games come to a handheld NX, that I’d be able to buy it separately because I haven’t had interest in a Nintendo home console since the N64 :/ (also I don’t have £350 for games lol)

    Reply
    • In this modern day, systems don’t run that cheap. If the NX were a handheld and console; the handheld will likely be around $200 and the console around $300 to $350.

      Reply
      • Yes…I said that the console would reasonably be $300-$350…I just wrote it as £250. I iz British ^^

I just figured if the total price was £350 and the console part was worth £250, then the handheld is worth what’s left…£100. I wasn’t saying they couldn’t reasonably release the handheld separately and price it higher. Of course they could.

        Reply
  4. Its most definitely a placeholder. If they put less, say 200. they’d have to honor that price even if the NX ends up being 250 or so.

  5. JUST SHOW THAT DAMN THING ALREADY
We have rumors, tweets, discussions and even a bloody song about this thing and none of us have any official footholds

  6. TBH when Tesco revealed the PS4 price before it was officially unveiled, it too was pricey (I think about £450.00 which is apx $650 USD) but it maybe a place holder. But to be fair, as I always say, unless that console has more than 3 games I want, then I’ll buy it, and for now the only games I see I would want is the planned Pokemon games (I assume Gen 8) and The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild (which I can also get for my Wii U).
But personally if it is a Handheld/Console hybrid that can play A Breath of the Wild (a game that will also be on the Wii U game mind you) I am impressed, so I do have high hopes for this generation of Nintendo games. I just hope its Backwards compatible with physical and digital 3DS games as well as backwards compatible with digital Wii U games. Would LOVE to play Wind Waker HD on the go.

    Reply
    • Why Generation 8 so soon? I think it might be Diamond and Pearl remakes. But that’s just me. Also, I doubt backwards compatability is happening to the handheld or console.

      Reply
      • True, but lets see how it goes. And I say Gen 8 as I assume next year GameFreak will release the last set of Pokemon games (main gen 7) on the 3DS before moving on to the next handheld (for reference I’m using Gen 4 and Gen 5 being on the DS as reference).

        Reply
        • I feel like S/M is the last Pokemon Games on the 3DS. With the Pokemon CEO saying that Pokemon games will be on the NX. I’m quite sure GameFreak is already making games for the system.

          Reply
          • You know, I felt the same way tbh. But I do kinda hope we have one more Pokemon game as a last hurrah for the 3DS, I mean Nintendo seems pretty intent with having it around as the are trying to us it as a way to heal the wound left by the Wii U by bringing over Yoshi’s Woolly World and Mario Maker to 3DS.

      • All games within the same generation are usually on the same console. Since the potential DP remakes will still be a part of Gen 7, I see them being on the 3DS.

Although having said that since the original DP were on a DS system, they may wait till Gen 8 for remakes, or the least likely option in my opinion, put them on the NX as part of Gen 7.

        Reply
        • It could be that, but I think they will follow a trend started with Gen 4 e.g. Gen 4: Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum then Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver (Remake on newer hardware e.g. the Nintendo DS). Then Gen 5 with Pokemon Black and White then the second paired games of the same Generation but new plot with Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. Then Gen 6 hops to the Next gen portable (The Nintendo 3DS) with Pokemon X and Pokemon Y as main games with Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (With the remake on newer hardware e.g. the Nintendo 3DS) as the remakes.
If they follow this pattern then we MAY (its a guess) see a follow up to Pokemon Sun and Moon on the 3DS as a Gen 7 title (maybe paired or so) and MAYBE we will see a Gen 8 with a paired remake of the Gen 4 games, once again, on newer hardware which would be the NX.

          Reply
      • yep i’m expecting diamond and pearl remake to be on nintendo nx and coming out in 2017, i wonder what they’ll do to celebrate diamond and pearl 10th year anniversary, since the game was release in september 28 2006, and september 28 2016, is almost here, i wonder what they’ll do?

  7. $450 is rather steep. I could see it being around $300 to $350 in the West. I’d say the price is a place holder. Like I said before, Nintendo is running out of time to reveal the NX. It’s almost October and no sight of the console other than the quotes from Pokemon CEO and Ubisoft.

    Reply
    • The thing with this is, they don’t usually compensate in Europe. A n3DS here is 200 bucks, when I was in Germany, a n3DS was 200 euro. They have the tendency to just take the same price and charge that in Europe. PS4s were 399 euro, I’m sure you get my point. It may or may not be a place holder, but, I don’t think we should assume the converted price is the correct price.

  8. Oh that reminds me
Yesterday at best buy they were demoing the Playstation VR Helmet
and i gotta say it was pretty dang cool
i played Battlezone and i gotta say VR is different when it slaps you in a cockpit of a moving vehicle
And i thought the helmet world would fry my eyes but it felt more like a “dark enclosed mini movie theater for 1”
Which gave me a devilish and almost taboo idea
VR Life&Styles Sim type of game Example: Animal Crossing VR

my brother thought that would be good but he fears that people of a weak constitution would live inside their VR helms

  9. Sooo I’m going to need some of you to just breath and calm down. Console prices are literally always listed as the same number but with different currencies. For example, the price of the PS4 at launch was listed as:
    $399.00 US
$399.00 AU (the Australian dollar is different)
    €399.00
£349.00 (because the sterling is so much stronger than the dollar)

So listing it as £349.00 does not mean the US price will be $450. It more than likely means a $350.00 US price tag. Don’t believe me? Look up the international prices of the last two console generation launches for each company and you’ll see.

  11. Ok so I decided to start Pokemon Heart Gold and have made it to Ekrutek City, and have just beaten Morty. So I need help with a Water Pokemon on my team, but I prefer it be only Johto Pokemon (even an evolution of a gen 1 to gen 2 Pokemon). So here is my current Team:

-Pikachu @ Lv. 23 (Lonely Nature): Thunderbolt, Iron Tail, Double Team, Thunder Wave

-Bayleef @ Lv. 23 (Lax Nature): Magical Leaf, Sunny Day, Synthesis, Reflect

-Houndoom @ Lv. 25 (Lonely Nature): Dark Pulse, Fire Fang, Bite, Will-o-Wisp

-Heracross @ Lv. 24 (Adamant Nature): Brick Break, Bulk Up, Strength, Horn Attack

-Golbat @ Lv. 23 (Naughty Nature): Areal Ace, Bite, Wing Attack, Confuse Ray

Any help with a water type Pokemon would be great, thanks 😀

  12. Little tip for those who’re playing ORAS, and are looking for a Dusk Stone (Honchcrow=life) there’s a trainer on Mt. Pyre called Hex Maniac Valerie whose Trainers Eye battle resets every time you exit and re-enter Mt. Pyre. She has a 5% chance to give you a Dusk Stone as reward for defeating her.

  13. The price at this point isn’t too surprising. Retailers almost never post the actual prices for stuff like consoles this far in advance. We haven’t even seen the freaking thing yet. A lot of times retailers just start with a price that’s on the higher end as it keeps the people that pre-order super early from getting deals that would be ridiculously cheap. I’m sure the actual price won’t be as expensive as this. It’ll most likely drop at least $50 if not a little more. That said if the NX is really as great as they say I’d expect it to be about the PS4’s price range. Maybe a little cheaper, but not by much.

  15. This better be a placeholder price, because i’m going to pay $400 for nintendo nx, i already paid for $350 for Xbox one, $130 for HD TV and the rest of game $30 a piece (because i got it online), i’m expecting $200 like the new nintendo 3ds XL

    Reply
    • If you’re expecting that low of a price then you’re expecting a sub par product……..It’ll likely be around the price range of the Xbone and PS4. IF it’s really as good as they say it is anyway lol

      Reply
      • I’m all about saving my money instead of spending it all willy-nilly like it’s nothing, but if that price is going to be high, then i’ll stick to my new nintendo 3ds xl

        • That’s fair, but I’ve never really liked when people say that consoles should be cheap just because they can’t afford it. I’m not attacking you or anything it’s more of a general opinion rather than aimed at you directly. I get not everyone is able to buy everything, but it is what it is. The main consoles are gonna be on the more expensive side lol

          Reply
    • It’s a home console. A successor to the Wii U. There will be a coinciding handheld for it but this isn’t it. If you expect a console with power rivaling the Ps4 and Xbone for $200 then you need to re-evaluate yourself.

      Reply
        • The last gaming device my parents bought was a GameBoy color for Christmas when I was little. If I want something I work for it myself.

Also I work at Toys R Us. We have parents coming in ALL THE TIME to buy a new Xbone or Ps4 for their kids. We sell at least two of each consoles a week. Trust me if a kid wants it these days, their parents will buy it for them. Besides, Nintendo has been teasing the NX as a console as powerful as the Ps4 and Xbone. Because of this they always have deals struck for more mainstream games and companies. I think $400 is fine. I certainly wouldn’t pay +$300 for a Wii U that had lackluster power and games.

          Reply
          • well not me, if it was around $300 i wouldn’t paying for it, but it’s a placeholder price and they marked the nx in december 31st 2016, which is a mistake, both the price and date are placeholder until they come up with the official price and date of the release, but i highly doubt it would cost this much, it’ll probably make the kids loose interest of the game if it cost to much

    • Uh well it was French and I wasn’t sure if you masuda or not..but if you do it might help you out I guess. Idk. It was a ground type too so I felt it would be less offensive than other things I could have offered. -shrugs-

  19. They keep coming, but this is a different one.

-A total of seven Ultra Beasts in each game, a total of eleven altogether (version-exclusive).

-Out of these set 127 new Pokemon, 59 will not be revealed until the game’s release.

-Samson Oak is the Hakuna of the Forbidden Island and owns one of the Island Guardians.

-The Kahuna from the Ice Mountain Island is someone from the Kalos region.

-The Kahuna for the island to the right of MeleMele Island is someone from the Sinnoh region.

-There are multiple after-game quests to be completed. Some include capturing Zygarde Perfect Forme, retrieving the Mega Staff, finding the Pokemon in the Tree of Lost Hope, etc.

-Although not revealed in videos pertaining to Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, the games will indeed have new Mega Evolutions.

-Some of the new Mega Evolutions include the starters of the Johto and Unova region, Magmortar, Electrivire and Rhyperior.

-Most of the new mega evolutions are spread mainly throughout the second and fifth generation.

-The game is currently set to feature 26 new mega evolutions.

-Pokemon with mega evolutions cannot perform Z-Moves while in their Mega Form.

-There will be a total of 36 Alolan Forms in the game.

-Some of the new Alolan forms include Jynx, Nidoking and Rapidash.

-Guzma and Kukui are brothers but only Guzma is aware of it.

-Hala is Guzma’s and Kukui’s uncle.

-Both AZ and Blue will make a reappearance in the after-game.

-It is not possible to travel to the Kalos region in the after-game, but a cave can be found to lead the player to Terminus Cave.

    -Lillie’s mother is Lusamine.

-Solgaleo and Lunaala are not the main legendaries of the game.

    Reply
    • This one makes a little more sense but still what is this tree of lost hope, Zygarde can’t be perfect form unless at 50% health, Hala looks nothing like either of them how does that work?, why a staff for mega stone no characters have used Staffs and it’s not an accessory like others, And WHAT?! WHAT?! They are the Box Legendaries that is why breaks the Numels back they are shown to play a big role how on EARTH are they not the main Legendaries???!!!!!

  20. Here’s a question based of Haxford and Natsu’s comments below.
Why are you picking the game you’re picking.
    I’m getting Moon because:
    > I like the Night Time setting
    > Lunaala’s design is better looking to me
    > I can’t see myself getting Sun… I just can’t…. (It’s weird… I thought about it after Passimian was revealed, but I couldn’t)

  21. This seems way too specific to be a placeholder price. I’d like to believe that the NX will be revealed soon, but I am really beginning to lose hype. I doubt I’m the only one who thinks their marketing approach to the NX is foolish.

    Reply
    • Of course you aren’t the only one. I was full of hype in august and early september, but at this point I kinda forgot that the announcement was coming soon, and that’s not a good thing coming from a dedicated nintendo fan.

    • At this point we just need to expect gimmicky starters. I’m not saying that they’re bad, look at Rowlet 3, I really like that one, but they’re definitely risks.

      Reply
        • Let’s look at the pattern.
What were gen 6’s final starter evos? What do they have in common?
Well, they are all assigned to an occupation of sorts.
Chesnaught is a knight, Delphox is a mage, and Greninja is a ninja.
What do the starter leaks have? Occupations (as I like to put it).
Popplio 3 is a mermaid, Rowlet 3 is an archer, and Litten 3 is a wrestler.
Honeslty it’s cool once in a while but I miss the old way they did starters. A bigger and cooler looking version of the first form.

          Reply
          • It doesn’t necessarily have a theme. Gen 6 was obviously fantasy RPG classes, but I don’t see a clear theme with this one, which makes it worse IMO. It started with Gen 5, but was less apparent.

          • Ok, clearly we’re on a different page here. xD Forget about an overarching theme. By “gimmicks”, I meant giving the starters jobs, rather than being larger cooler versions of the first form. They made Samurott a samurai, rather than just a cool otter. They made Litten a wrestler, rather than a cool tiger. They made Greninja a ninja, rather than a cool frog. It’s all up to opinion whether you like the direction they’re going in, but it’s obvious that they love assigning jobs to the starters these days. Sorry if that was confusing, got it now? xD

      • I miss starter evolutions like in Gen 1, 3 and 4 (maybe 5). In my opinion they are perfectly executed. In Gen 6 and 7 they just try to follow a theme, which isn’t necessary, and it doesn’t make them look good.

    • True, but at the same time Nintendo has been putting out under powered consoles as of late. If the console really does rival the Xbone or PS4 in anyway the price will likely be somewhere between $300-$400

Hearing a little bit of this and a little of that from potential 3rd party developers means nothing unless we can actually assess the console with our own eyes lol

    • Exactly…. I can’t even fathom how people can talk about the Wii U and say it’s the best console ever…..It’s not….not by a mile….Granted it had some pleasurable games such as Bayonetta 2 and Splatoon, but over all the system was a failure. It was under powered, had a relatively small selection of games that anyone could call “great”, and forced you to choose to play with one of many awkward controllers…..*sigh*…..I love Nintendo, but this past gen for them was a flop in the grand scheme of things… lol

  26. Wow. What happened when I was gone with the leaks? I’d like someone to take some screencaps of the leaks and compare it to the information revealed on October 4th. So far, after reading through Bulbapedia, it’s looking similar to the Art Leak and Anon Leak. Just utter false information with no creditable sources. Until I see one similar thing to the leak, I’ll believe it. It seems like it’s just someone who wants there to be two starter evolutions because they dislike the current ones.
Anyways (after that salt), where do you guys stand with the NX? Hybrid or Handheld or Console? Based on the CEO of the Pokemon Company, Ubisoft, Nintendo’s Job Listings, and patients… I’m predicting a handheld and console.
