Although they are items, Canari Plushes should be thought of as permanent upgrades for your character in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. You’ll unlock your first Canari Plush as part of the story in Mission 5, ‘The City in the Shadow of Prism Tower’.
What is a Canari Plush?
Canari Plushes are described in the game as being similar to a good luck charm and provide passive effects that enhance certain things based on what color they are. There are a total of five:
Blue Canari Plush
The Blue Canari Plush increases your odds of catching Pokémon.

Catch Rate bonus +10%
Blue Canari Plush Level 2
Catch Rate bonus +20%
Blue Canari Plush Level 3
Catch Rate bonus +35%
Gold Canari Plush
The Gold Canari Plush increases the money you receive from battles.

Green Canari Plush
The Green Canari Plush increases your trainer’s resilience when taking hits in battle, making you less likely to black out, by increasing your HP.

How to obtain and upgrade Canari Plushes
You can buy and upgrade Canari Plushes from a construction worker near the Racine Construction Shop. Make sure to enter the shop to unlock the Travel Spot on your map! The vendor outside will exchange Colorful Screws to buy and upgrade Canari Plushes.
When obtained, the Canari Plush will be at level 1. You can upgrade it to a max level of 3. Upgrading the plushies will enhance their respective effects. The cost will increase as you upgrade:
- Level 1 (initial purchase): 3 Colorful Screws
- Level 2: 5 Colorful Screws
- Level 3: 8 Colorful Screws
Recommended Canari Plush buying and upgrading order
If you’re looking to streamline your gameplay experience, the recommended general order to obtain and upgrade the Canari Plushes are as follows:
- Blue Canari Plush: Very helpful for catching Pokémon through the city and completing Mable’s Research
- Red Canari Plush: Makes leveling your Pokémon quicker
- Gold Canari Plush: Allows you to amass in-game currency faster
- Pink Canari Plush: Allows you to gather Mega Shards faster to trade them for Mega Stones
- Green Canari Plush: Least important if you’re good at dodging and avoiding attacks
If you have specific goals when playing, such as getting more money for clothing, you may want to switch around the order you obtain or upgrade the Plushes.
It’s recommended that you get all Canari Plushes before starting to upgrade them, although Green could be skipped if you feel confident in battle and are not prone to getting knocked out as a Trainer.
Colorful Screws and how to obtain them
Colorful Screws can be found on scaffolding around the city. They are easy to spot because they are in Item Balls that glow purple.
You may not be able to reach all the Colorful Screw Item Balls until you obtain the ability to glide with your Rotom Phone. This is called the Roto-Glide ability and is unlocked mid-way through the main story.
Reward for collecting all the Colorful Screws
When you have unlocked all Canari Plush upgrades and collected every Colorful Screw, you will be gifted a large Canari Plush which will be added to your room in Hotel Z.
