A new Paldean Pokémon will be debuting later this month in Pokémon GO and players will be able to challenge Shadow Raikou and Incarnate Forme Thundurus in upcoming events. Read about them below!

Precious Pals: Taken Over event information
The Precious Pals event will be getting a little darker with the Precious Pals: Taken Over event which will introduce more Team GO Rocket encounters and more when it runs from Friday, January 23, at 12:00 a.m. until Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
Players will also get Special Research that rewards a Super Rocket Radar to find and battle Giovanni. He has a Shadow Incarnate Forme Thundurus and Grunts can now be encountered with Shadow Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie.
Players can enjoy the following bonuses and activities while the event is active:
- Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons.
- You can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration.
- Pokémon caught via one-star and three-star Shadow Raids during the event will have a wider variance of Attack, Defense, and HP.
- Event-themed Field Research tasks will be available from PokéStops.
- An event-themed Collection Challenge will be active.
Raikou Shadow Raid Day event details
A Raikou Shadow Raid Day will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Players will be able to take advantage of the following bonuses:
- Up to five additional free Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs (for a total of six).
- Increased chance of encountering Shiny Raikou from Shadow Raids.
- The Remote Raid limit will increase to 20 from Friday, January 23, at 4:00 p.m. to Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. PST.
Into the Depths event details
The Paldean Pokémon Glimmet and its evolution Glimmora will be debuting with the Into the Depths event coming to GO from Tuesday, January 27, at 10:00 a.m. until Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
The following bonuses and activites will be active during the event:
- 3× XP from completing Routes
- 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance
- Increased chance of encountering and hatching Shiny Diglett and Yungoos
- Event-themed Field Research Tasks from PokéStops
Wild Pokémon encounters
The following Pokémon may be encountered during the event:
- Diglett*
- Dunsparce*
- Meditite*
- Yungoos*
- …and more!
Pokémon Eggs
Players can hatch the following Pokémon from 7 km Eggs obtained during the event:
- Diglett*
- Larvitar*
- Bagon*
- Deino*
- Yungoos*
*An asterisk denotes a Pokémon that may be Shiny when encountered
