August is heating up in Pokémon GO just as summer is winding down. Read about the three events scheduled for next month and make sure to mark your calendars if you want to participate.
Fossil Research Day event details
On Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, Fossil Research Day will be taking place in Pokémon GO. As the event name suggests, many Fossil Pokémon will be spawning and Tyrunt and Amaura will be available from Field Research tasks with an increased chance of being Shiny.

Wild Pokémon spawns
During the event, the following Pokémon will be spawning more often:
- Omanyte*
- Kabuto*
- Lileep*
- Anorith*
- Cranidos*
- Shieldon*
- Tirtouga* (Rare)
- Archen* (Rare)

Eternatus descends in the Max Finale following the Dark Skies event
The Pokémon GO Fest 2025 Max Finale event will be taking place on both August 23 and 24, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. local time each day. It will be preceded by the Dark Skies event which runs from August 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. – August 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. local time.
These events are focused around Max Battles and will see the return of every Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon released in GO thus far. It will also feature the debut of Eternamax Eternatus which can be battled but not caught. Players will be able to get an Eternatus from the GO Pass: Max Finale.
Dapper Pikachu, Falinks with its train costume and Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta will also be returning to Raids during the Max Finale.

Redeem a new Pokémon GO code for Gigantamax research
Players can redeem the code GOFESTMAX (clicking the link will take you to the Pokémon GO online store where it can be redeemed) to receive a branching Timed Research that will let you earn an encounter with Gigantamax Rillaboom, Cinderace, or Inteleon.
Expires on August 3, 2025 and the research must be completed and claimed before August 24.
Rookidee Community Day details
August’s Community Day will feature the Tiny Bird Pokémon Rookidee after it beat out its two opponents in a poll to determine what Pokémon the month’s Community Day would feature. It will take place on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time.
When Corvisquire, Rookidee’s evolution, is evolved into Corviknight during the event and until September 6, 2025, at 10:00 p.m. it will learn the featured attack Air Cutter which has a base power of 55 (45 in Trainer Battles).
Players can enjoy the following bonuses during the Community Day event:
- 1/4 Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed in an Incubator during the event period.
- 2× Candy for catching Pokémon.
- 2× chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL from catching Pokémon.
- Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours.
- Incense (excluding Daily Adventure Incense) activated during the event will last for three hours.
- Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!
- One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of three for the day.*
- Trades will require 50% less Stardust.*
