Our Pokémon forum Mt. Moon Community ran from 2006 until we switched to PokéJungle Forums in 2016 and, ultimately, we discontinued having a forum component to the site altogether. Why? Social media had really supplanted the role of a traditional bulletin board for most people.
Why bring a Pokémon forum back in 2025?
Social media platforms succeeded because they were convenient and also very centralized. You were no longer pigeonholed into interest-based forums, each with their own member groups.
I think that we have now been able to see the weaknesses of social media platforms though. They are easily abused by bad actors to push misinformation, they divide users with algorithmic feeds that prioritize platform metrics over mental health and they a centralize a tremendous amount of power to whoever has control of the website.
The reason we have brought back Mt. Moon Community is to create an independent community for our readers. For people who want to talk about Pokémon, gaming and daily life without having to fight algorithms to see content that matters to them or support ridiculously wealthy tech owners who have ulterior motives for controlling social discourse.
The only way we can take back power online is to create our own, independent communities again. I hope that those of you who value that type of thinking will join us to discuss Pokémon Legends: Z-A, share your latest Pokémon GO Shinies or just enjoy sharing how your day has been with fellow members.
There are other Pokémon forums, but I have always valued the relationships I have formed with frequent commenters on social media and Discord and wanted to have a special place where we can further grow our community and make new friends.
