It’s a year of the Dragon according to the Chinese zodiac (although officially the Chinese new year starts from February 10 this year) and we thought it would be a great time to reflect on our favorite Dragon-type Pokémon!
Leave a comment below the article with your favorite Dragon-type Pokémon! If you need a refresher of all the Dragon-type Pokémon, check out the page on PokémonDB here.
Do you like old favorites?
Dragon-type Pokémon had a slow start in the first few generations of the main series of Pokémon games. They were rare and often weren’t even available to catch until very late in the game. That scarcity has made some of the older Dragon-types very recognizable because they were “the” Dragon-type Pokémon of their generation.
Or new friends?
In recent generations, Dragon-type Pokémon have enjoyed a slightly more abundant showing but are still the second rarest type of all Pokémon (tied with Flying and Ground-types), with only Rock-type Pokémon making up a smaller percentage of all Pokémon. But even with less Pokémon than some other types, there are many creative Dragon-types that have been added throughout the series’ history. We now have apple dragons, sushi dragons, ghost dragons and paradox dragons.
The Dragon Tera Type
With the introduction of Terastallization in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, any Pokémon can now harness the power of Dragon typing in battle. Let us know if you have any affinity for Pokémon with the Dragon Tera Type in the comments too!
