Making predictions about a Pokémon Presents news drop with less than 12 hours until it premieres?! Sure! Specifically, these are predictions about information we may see revealed about the upcoming Nintendo Switch games Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.
Their November 18 release date is quickly approaching, but very little information has actually been revealed for the titles. That will probably change tomorrow, so here are some things we may see besides the obvious of “new Pokémon”:
The generation-defining game mechanic
The previous generation of Pokémon delivered the Dynamax mechanic to spice up battles, but that is not expected to be carried forward to Scarlet and Violet. During tomorrow’s presentation, we may get the first look at it, but not a full explanation of what it entails.
Gym information
So far, we don’t even know officially if gyms will be in the games, but it seems likely given some of the screenshots. The games have promised “a world that you’re free to explore at your leisure and not in an order dictated by the story,” so the gym challenge of this generation could be unlike anything we’ve experienced in a Pokémon game to date.
A look at the past… and future
Its already clear that the past and future are themes of the games and so far we’ve really only seen that represented in the design of each version’s mascot Legendary Pokémon and its professor. I’m guessing that there’ll be more to this theme than we’ve seen so far, and we may just see a glimpse of that in tomorrow’s presentation.
Farfetch’d: Starter evolutions
Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly are cute and all, but what about their evolutions?! I don’t think there’s any possibility their final evolutions would be shown, but what about simply their next stages? It would be pretty early in the game’s marketing, considering we didn’t see evolutions for Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble until the month of their release, but you never know when Pokémon will throw a curve ball!
