Pokémon Day 2020: Check out these in-game events!

It’s still February 26 in the US, but there’s already plenty to report about Pokémon Day (officially celebrated on the 27). Check out the different ways the franchise is celebrating.

Pokémon Day in Sword & Shield

Special Max Raid Battles are available! Mewtwo will be appearing in raids across the Wild Area. That’s not all though, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charmelon and Wartortle can also be found. All of these Pokémon drop at least one notable item, so even though you can battle, but not catch Mewtwo, all these raids are worth participating in. Check out the items to look for:

  • Bulbasaur, Ivysaur: Toxic Orb
  • Charmander, Charmeleon: Flame Orb
  • Squirtle, Wartortle: Life Orb
  • Mewtwo: Ability Capsule, Bottle Caps

Pokémon Day in GO

Love Pokémon in party hats? There are plenty during this special event! Pikachu and Eevee spawn in the wild, while Kanto starters Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle appear in raids.

Armored Mewtwo and its army of clone Pokémon have also descended upon the game! We covered this news earlier, but note that the cloned Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise have their super-strong Community Day attacks!

Other celebrations

For those in the US, the Pokémon Center Online is now offering free shipping for one day only! It could be a great time to pick up something you’ve had your eye on.

Netflix is now showing the first Pokémon movie’s remake, Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution. Let us know what you think in the comments!

  1. Mewtwo is a tough cookie.
Noted moves: Blizzard, Focus Blast, Fire Blast, Psystrike. Boosts itself with Calm Mind.
    Saw someone mention Nasty Plot.

I also think it gets like two attacks + the max move, and starts with 6 shield.

  2. Got into a Mewtwo raid, someone picked an Aegislash and the host started the raid with 2 minutes left in the timer and we only had 3 people, this is gonna be a slow but sure lose.

  3. Some strategy tips for Mewtwo Raids:

DON’T, and I say DON’T bring frail Pokemon. Your glass cannon is not gonna do jack if it dies on the second turn and Raid bosses have a damage cap before every set of shields.

DON’T bring anything weak to psychic, if you can help it bring a dark type. Not only because it’s STAB super effective damage but because it would also result in Mewtwo setting up Psychic terrain which would block priority moves which can be the best method of dealing damage to it.

Taunt is a good idea, as it would prevent it from spamming Calm mind, Nasty Plot and Bulk Up, altho this is a turn 1 move because as soon as the shields go up it won’t work for a while.

Set up screens. Start with light screen but if you see it using Max Quake use Reflect right away.

    Use Healing items.

    Only bring Level 100 Pokemon.

Make sure you always have a 4 person team, don’t let a single slot get filled by the CPU.

Grimmsnarl is great for Screens and Taunting, also it can hit hard with Sucker punch, which is why Psychic terrain would be a disaster for it.

Umbreon tanks hits well, specially behind screens and it has a healing move that gets boosted in Sunlight, which Mewtwo likes to do, and it gets Foul Play which is great against Physical Mewtwo and FOcus Blast Mewtwo (Which when using Max Knuckle boosts it’s attack).

Melmetal can tank hits, specially if it’s Dynamaxed with an Assault Vest.

    That is all.

    • They key to beating Mewtwo is CONSISTENT damage, not BIG damage, and being able to tank hits.

Leave your Gengar in it’s box, yes even if it’s a Shiny Gmax one, even if it’s in an apricorn ball, it is just gonna die and make Mewtwo set up Psychic terrain.

  4. Ok so clearly the people that join my raids are a bunch of dumbasses

You know something is wrong when a three headed dragon USES SURF INSTEAD OF A DARK MOVE

My Rhyperior is way stronger and tougher than ANYTHING I’ve seen in the last hour
AV and Max Beetleby ruins Mewtwo and he’s slow enough to gamble max moves when the shield is up to maximize breakage
