There’s a lot of mystery involved in the latest trademark filing from Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures, Inc. Simply listed as “POKEGENIC” (although POKÉGENIC seems likely), the name is filed for use in a variety of projects which include many mentions of outdoor sports, art and not least of all, videogames.
These filings are not only used for games and may have nothing to do with the upcoming Pokémon Sword & Shield titles. Some end up as TCG set names and some turn out to be lines of infant goods.
UPDATE: As our friends at Serebii have pointed out, this is a term used for the upcoming Pikachu Outbreak event in Yokohama, Japan this summer! The article was posted when I was flying back to the US last month—sorry for not catching that earlier!
Have any good guesses on what this could be used for? Photogenic comes to mind, but it may just as well be related to genetics with Mewtwo and Mew getting the spotlight in July’s upcoming movie Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution. Give us your thoughts in the comments or hop on Discord and chat about it!
