RUMOR: Nintendo Developing Handheld-Only Switch Mini?

The Nintendo Switch is a hot commodity and has exceeded sales expectations across the board. Bloomberg has published speculation by analysts that a new variation of the home console could remove the docking feature and solely be a handheld gaming device.

Citigroup Inc. […] expect the Kyoto-based company to release a smaller version of the Switch in the fiscal year through March 2019, according to analysts including Minami Munakata, Kota Ezawa and Alicia Yap. — Via Bloomberg

Interesting speculation which may mean a lot for Pokémon fans if a main franchise title does indeed end up on the Nintendo Switch.

If there were a handheld-only version though, would it defeat the purpose of the “Switch”? Weigh in below!

    That cannot be right, they are already trying to make this thing mobile and yet now they need to do it up smaller

  8. Not surprising, but certainly not the best idea either. What they should really do if they’re trying to consolidate their systems is to maintain the normal Switch and refine it so it can be a full handheld as well as the normal tv console. Just make one system that works well in both of it’s markets. There doesn’t need to be a subset of the Switch. The thing they really need to worry about is the advertising and branding for the two Switchs. The 3DS and New 3DS problems was dumb as dumb can be. Same with the Wii and Wii U. They’ll need to advertise very carefully if they intend to market both at the same time.

    • In theory Yes, but the problem of that is the Switch by design is a home console first and trying not to include the dock would really hurt it from a game design perspective. All it would take is for a third party game to have a sequence that doesn’t allow you to save for a period longer then the battery life to completely screw over the issue and create another issue with the switch. Certainly you could argue then that you could just plug it into a wall, but people would then retort that if they have to stay near a plug to play a game, they might as well play it on a large tv rather then a four inch screen.

First things first, its quite clear that the switch can be used as a portable console, yet I believe that nintendo, more or less sees it as a home console, that can be brought around with you to goto to places like your friends house, or meet up somewhere, it just that kind of console. So if they wanted they could create a handheld version, Let’s just call it “DS Switch” for now. This console, would allow for people that don’t quite have the cash to pay for the standard switch to play nintendo’s new games, and it could even be used as a continuation of handhelds by making it into both a rehash type console of the switch and adding extra games exclusive to its library between the two. From a market standpoint it actually would be a good move. From a fan standpoint, If you own a switch – EarthenWarrior has the right idea, but if you don’t own a switch it can be a great oppurtunity to give people a portable experience for just a bit less money.

  20. Ya know this actually kinda makes sense for them to make. The Switch already sold like crazy and most people interested but not buying are just concerned about the price. If they upped the battery and lowered the price, it could be great.

    I think it needs to have some way of connecting to the TV though. Even if you have to buy a separate dock

      a bunch of morning losses on showdown, splatoon and that one FUCKING KARTOS LEVEL IN YOOKA-LAYLEE
      Wow is losing its luster again and Yooka-Laylee is boiling down to annoying scraps of collectibles that i cannot find unless i printed a map and by hand and
      i had a fight with my mother when we had to go shopping for new pants which ripped do to my acidic bodily functions which is always a pain because clothes are expensive as fuck for a individual of my dimensions
      i really want to stop playing yookalaylee and play Banjo Tooie because i can’t find these last dang quills

    First off, yes. Removing the docking feature negates the entire point of a switch. Otherwise it’s a vita/gba style handheld with detachable controllers. It’s not a switch anymore. At least not what it was meant to be. But then again, they did take the 3D out of the 3DS. Though that seems much less important to the identity of the system. Plus they can’t make it much more “mini” at this point, it still has to have al the parts inside. It seems dumb to remove the docking feature when it doesn’t take much, honestly. So no, it won’t happen IMO. If it does, I wouldn’t be objected to it as much as I would a direct 3DS successor, but it just seems stupid and pointless to me.

            Liepard is a serious, sleek design and is purple, yellow and pink. It’s a utility Mon really. Persian is blue, silly and set up to be a set up special attacker. Incineroar is a boisterous design capturing the personal or a wrestler with that of a cat, and is meant to be a physical tank. Absol and Umbreon could be included but both have aspects of other animals and are also unique in terms of design and stat/move spread

  68. I finally got my hands on a Pro Controller. My god it’s so nice. The buttons are all very springy and it feels very comfortable. It was expensive but well worth the money if you ask me.

    • Plus it keeps on making Z-Move esque stances, and both Wicke and the Maile Library tie Z-Power to Ultra Space, as well as the fact that Z-Power resembles Totem Aura and Beast Boost, which comes from the Ultra Wormholes like Necrozma also may

      • Yep yep, I’ve theorized that Z-Crystals came from Necrozma because it lost all of its color and energy when it entered the Pokemon world from Ultra Space. This also resulted in the creation of Cosmog

          • Idk that would mean Necrozma created the whole Cosmog line and for some reason I don’t think that’d be the case?

          • No I’ve theorized that Lunala, Solgaleo and Necrozma were originally one being (like the Unova dragons) living in Ultra Space. It somehow found its way to the Pokemon world, but due to the absense of Ultra Energy it started to diffuse and that created two Cosmog and the Z-Crystals. One fled to the alternate reality where we can find it post-game, and the other got captured by Aether.

            Necro means ”death” in Greek, so i think that Necrozma is really just the empty husk left behind when it diffused into Z-Crystals and the version mascots

      Flavor/Design: Alolan Noivern is large and pudgy, standing roughly 1.9m tall and weighing approximately 108kg. Its fur is a bright neon/lime green, and it adorns its pelt with the skulls of its prey. It has a thin double-ridge of bone on its snout that reaches from one brow to the other, and from the base of this ridge and back down Alolan Noivern’s spine there is a large crest of rigid hair. Alolan Noivern has large claws on its hands and feet, and it has two large horns akin to those of an ox location at its temples. Alolan Noivern shed their horns once per year, growing a new pair after a month, and lose claw casings twice yearly. Alolan Noivern love music, and they are constantly emitting sounds akin to classic rock from their ears; while this tune is normally rather quiet, when Alolan Noivern become excited the music increases to a near-deafening level. They wear a large, open mouth smile on their face while listening to their favorite music, and their large tongues absentmindedly lolls out of one corner of their mouths. Alolan Noivern’s large tail acts as a metronome, and it waves it back and forth to keep time with any tune. Alolan Noivern mark their territory by carving rocks with their large claws, sometimes, and unintentionally, resulting in beautiful murals across the area. Alolan Noivern are dull but incredibly crafty, and they can imitate any sound they hear. They use this ability to lure prey into their reach; the last thing that smaller Pokemon that enter an Alolan Noivern’s territory hear is an abrupt and terrifying shift to rock-n-roll music. Alolan Noivern also use their ingenuity to escape danger; they can sense the perfect time to leave any confrontation, be it social or dangerous in nature, and do so while crudely imitating human speak. Alolan Noivern acts in a manner that would be considered very immature and arrogant for a person, and this is demonstrated the clearest by the manner it decorates its dwelling. Alolan Noivern adores making objects in its own image, and the lair of an elder member of its species will feature countless rocks, skeletons, egg shells, and other random on trinkets and knickknacks dropped by tourists, all adorned with previous years’ horns, arranged so the objects appear to have grown the protrusions themselves.
      Concept: Alolan Noivern is based off of 70’s punk, fashion, and musical trends.
      Competitive Corner: Alolan Noivern is a fast and strong physical attacker that has middling bulk. It has immediate value as a lead due to its vast support movepool and aforementioned offensive stats, and can also be used as an effective pivot or revenge killer thanks to its stellar abilities. Alolan Noivern can also be used as a bulky pivot thanks to Intimidate, and can utilize this bulk to support the team with Spikes or set a boost or two to attempt a sweep. Overall, Alolan Noivern has many enticing attributes about it which makes it seem very strong, but it is balanced by its low-powered coverage options, middling bulk without Intimidate, lack of reliable options to boost its stats, and weakness to common (priority) attacking types.

  151. I want to hear your thoughts on this. So I just got very bored yesterday, therefore I decided to just start a Red/Blue story prologue (for whatever reason :p), but with a lot more comedy and humor going for it. It takes place the night before Red chooses his starter. It’s written in a format as if he was doing a journal about his excitement for the next day. I’m not too good as a writer, but I just thought it would be fun to start it up:

    11:39 PM, 7 hours and 21 minutes till my journey beginning.
    March 24, XXXX

    Well… after 14 years, its here. Tomorrow is when everything changes for my life. It’s a big step towards a truly new beginning. The day in which I can finally go out and explore this world. Plus, it’s the day in which I can pick a partner Pokemon.

    Wait, you haven’t heard of what a Pokemon is? Well, all right, I’ll explain. Pokemon, short for Pocket Monsters, are creatures that roam my world. They can change form and “evolve” into other stages of their families. For example, living eggs can turn into a deformed palm tree with coconuts as faces. Yeah, that’s Mother Nature at its finest.

    You confused on that last part? Look man, I’m a 15-year-old teen. I’m shit at descriptions and answers. I can’t even describe the science behind why a fish turns into an Octopus because it puts your head in a Bind. If you really wanted to, go talk to the old guy south of town with the tree name. He’s good at hour-long monologues that want you to go jump into Mt. Ember so bad. Also, he gets you confused as a boy or girl. So if you really want to go through all that, be my guest.

    Anyway, I think this will be refreshing for. I’ve been stuck in a town consisting of only 7 other people, so life’s pretty boring. Can you imagine what that would be like? Only chatting with them for 14 years, all the while that you’re only able to basically talk to anyone else through a computer. That’s the description of a very, forever-alone life right there ladies and gentlemen.

    Plus the guy next door has been a total scumbag to me his entire life, which gives me all the more reason to get the hell outta here.

    Well, should probably hit the sack, honestly I don’t want to oversleep in the morning. It’s this late because I’ve been playing some Cloverwatch before hand. That game is pretty addicting. I’ve stayed up nights playing it, getting some high rankings. I’ve been maining Slakston recently to see how that was like. Loved freaking people out by jumping over buildings and getting some pretty lit team kills. Those Greninji players never stood a chance.

    But I’m getting off-topic here. There’s not much else to say here… so night y’all.

    • I liked the jokes in the third paragraph. I don’t understand the Overwatch references, so I can’t really comment on that. Only thing wrong writing-wise is just some grammar stuff, but really it could just be me nitpicking.
      1. “till my journey beginning.” -> “until my journey begins”, or if you want to be more colloquial, “…’till my journey begins”.
      2. “…its here” -> “…it’s here”.
      3. “Tomorrow is when everything changes for my life” -> This just sounds clumsy. Maybe something like “Tomorrow is when my life completely changes.” Or even better, “My life will change tomorrow (forever?)”.
      4. “The day in which” -> “The day on which” (You would say “on this day…”, not “in this day…”, right?). Same thing for the following sentence.
      5. “I’m shit at descriptions and answers” -> “I’m shit at describing and answering”
      6. “an Octopus” why is octopus capitalized, but fish isn’t? Octopus isn’t a pronoun so it doesn’t need to be capitalized.
      7. “Also, he gets you confused as a boy or girl.” -> This just sounds awkward. Perhaps “He’ll usually never know your gender”, or something like that. You cannot really be “confused as”, but you can be “confused as to”. So you could say “…confused as to whether you are a boy or a girl”, but that’s worse b/c now the sentence is super long.
      8. “be refreshing for.” -> Refreshing for what? Just omit “for”.
      9. “town consisting of” -> I wouldn’t say a town “consists” of people, but rather is populated by people. I would use consist for nonliving objects (consists of 7 buildings, houses, etc.), or maybe just nonhuman.
      10. “Well, should” -> “Well, I should”
      11. “sack, honestly” -> sack; honestly” or “sack. Honestly”
      12. “It’s this late” -> “I’m up this late”. The fact that it’s 3:00 in the morning is because of how we keep track of time, not because you’ve been playing vidya games
      13. “Loved freaking” -> “I loved freaking…” I guess you could opt to not put “I” here, to make it more colloquial. It kind of works without it.

  152. I had a really cool thing happen yesterday where I had a 5-second cameo in a rally video, which is played in front of over 1,000 students. I guess you could say I have the right connections. One of the most interesting and exciting experiences of my life, to be honest. It definitely made me feel validated seeing and hearing people from each of the grades (close friends or not) recognize me 😛 Now I’m being called “America’s next top model”, since that’s what I was parodying. Hope you’re all doing well, things are a bit quiet on the Nintendo side of things. Not for long though…E3 quickly approaches…

(since the brain is nothing but electrical pulses and psychic complements this chemistry and selective breeding has been scientifically shown to alter the frontal cortex in the brains)

I would walk into to the store to pick up my preorder only to be greeted with: “Sorry, there’s been a production fault with all the cartridges resulting in failing save games, all games have been recalled and will be delivered at later unknown date.” I really was crushed for over a week.

    -SuMo contain every single key item from D/P as revealed by the datamine
    -Ultra Wormholes are somewhat similar to Distortion World holes
    -Two main characters in the 20th movie have gen 4 Pokemon, and not just randoms but arguably two two most popular ones
    -Munchlax was a pre-order giveaway for the games
    -Melemele Island is based on Oahu, and two major areas on that island are Diamond Head (Ten Carat Hill) and Pearl Harbor (Hau’Oli Marine)
    -The missing Pokemon from the Alola dex contain a lot of gen 4
    -The background colors when battling Team Skull, are those of diamond and pearl (could be just a coincedence though)
    -The Aether Foundation have extended interest in Bronzong, Giratina and Palkia due to their ability to travel between dimensions
    -When you battle Cynthia in the Battle Tree, she says the same exact lines as when you fight her as champ in D/P

    From first games and before the elite four
    Not counting legends, in Diamond and pearl, there were 73 new Pokemon available (Note, most cross gen evos were not available until aftergame or were available in platinum)
    X and Y had 65
    Sun and moon had 62 or and not counting alolan forms (which make it 80)
    So tbh, the number isn’t exactly that small compared to other games

    The theme of this Pokemon Region is Growth. As a franchise, Pokemon has been with some people since they could first learn to speak. Others may have been introduced to it later on by a friend. Regardless, it holds a special place in the hearts of people. As we grow older and change, so does the series. Consequently, it’s the perfect topic to touch on in a Pokemon game. This region is called the “Incrum” region, a named derived from the Latin word “Incrementum” which means growth (Unless I mistranslated). The two legendaries of this game refer to the concepts of dreams and reality; two vital parts to growth. Ambition and dreams are important as they allow you to be motivated to move forward. However being engrossed in them may lead to a person being too obsessed with their ambitions, no matter how logical or illogical, to move forward. It is important to balance these dreams with reality, to not lose sight of the world around you. If you are too obsessed with seeing the world in a literal sense, you may end up disregarding dreams that would have a lasting effect on the world. That is what the legendaries, and evil teams correspond to. One of the teams is too engrossed in trying to make everything better that they disregard the suffering they cause, and the other team is one who refuses to look forward and see things in a more abstract light, not just pure logic.

    -Firstly, they were actually hard (since most people thought gen 5 and 6 e4 were trash)
    -Due to the fact that you meet most of them before the league, they are very memorable.
    – Flying and Rock types are new elite 4 types
    -THE MUSIC!!!!!!
    – And I pretty its the first time there is more female leaders than male (gym and e4)
    Alola E4 is definitely the best set of Elite 4

    This form is what some researchers believe what Crabrawler would normally evolve into if it didn’t get lost on Mount Lanakila at Alola. Crabominable, now introduced to more hotter areas here in Selos, sheds off its wooly fur. Overtime, it came with ends with some of Selos’s predators, and as a result of getting beaten so many times on their bodies, the shell hardened exteremly, and adapted to the blows. Scientists, when they took samples, discovered the shell was a very strong metal alloy, which was found as a dormant gene in Crabrawler, but was never enhanced in Alola because of evolving in cold climates.
    *Crabominable’s design now lacks the fur, but its face now looks like a tiki mask, and there’s some sort of “belt-like armor” protecting it’s body, almost as if it were a champion boxer.

Its a great casting, perfectly fitting to her character and does sound exactly like a chinese woman who learned english as a second language. Its just that last one is the part I don’t like. I’m not a big fan on thick Chinese accents, and Mei’s adorableness can’t shield that little pet peeve of mine.

      • Dragons are covered by the Kingdom of Reptiles, Faiy/Ghost/Dark of SuperNatural beings, Many bug types are spiders…. which are not insect classification at all… The team who designed the games is building on a basis of generic classifactions that cover type first, sense second… But some elements do line up naturally/supernaturally.

          Spiders are colloquially confused with insects, and insects and bugs are often mistaken for the same thing. You wouldn’t be caught dead thinking that steel was a catch all term for metals, unlike thinking bug is a catch all term for arthropods

          Dark isn’t really super natural, and it’s very well defined. It’s the things human find evil or dark, such as death, cheating, violence, misfortune, destruction

          Ghost is also well defined, dead things, spirits, black magic, that are all bundled together in most media anyway

          Fairy is vague… Because irl fairy mythos is vaguer than a guy who plays football but loves a bit of musical theatre on the side

    • Steel is an Alloy, usually a mix of iron and some other very tough material, but steel isn’t meant to be completely natural in the sense they use it either… if fact, steel pokemon are designed to be usually artificial (Magearna) or enhanced by science (Genesect), born often of mineral creation at their own means (Steelix) or somehow influenced/fused/incarnated (Magnemite/Metagross/Klefki, Accordingly) by man, akin to poison types. the use of the term steel has become cliche with metal to sound tougher and less rusting that iron, which is a more traditional element (type) name. But the philosophy behind the type name “steel” is either “mechanical” “tougher than just metal” or most importantly “somehow influenced by man or craft type”

        • Klefki thrives on man-made keys, therefore is completed by incarnation of the inflection of man… Metagross is a 4 socket fusion with often compared to a supercomputer, implying it is somehow connected to man-made understanding and principle of machinery. Magnemite feeds on electricity and focuses on man-made creations to feed, which is a direct influence of it’s species’ continuous growth in domestic areas. Bronzong is a strange case because yes, it does fall under bronze technically, but how do we know, especially given it’s ability “heatproof” that it isn’t influenced as a form of Steel/Bronze basis alloy, given it’s use in interdimentional harvesting too…

            All we know is that Metagross has an amazing IQ, which probably correlates with its psychic type seeing as Alakazam has comparable IQ and isn’t artificial at all

          B it is based on a Peng with is a giant ass dragon bird with clouds for wings
          C and you can’t have pure flying types outside being an elemental of wind, otherwise it usually always needs a base because literally every flying type is a creature that flies and only one of them is a wind elemental, the only exception is Noivern’s line being primary flying but that may because Noivern is about sound waves and very little draconian in nature

          • Okay, A and B kinda make sense but C is plain stupid. There are many desingns you could create that aren’t wind or elemental! For example a Hawk with Fighter Jet-like features or a Kite pokemon or as I said Cloud pokemon should be Pure Flying type. We had one Pure Flying type and the fact that It’s elemental doesn’t mean every Pure Flying type would be elemental. That was one bad argument.

I still think if a Pokémon based on the cottonweed (Whimsicott) can be Fairy just because of Mischievous behavior (Which in point is why Sneasel and Murkrow are Dark type) that Hoppip can’t and has no way to even come close to Fairy even though the saying “If you make a wish on a wishing puff (Dandelion) it will come true” that it relates to wishes which because of some Pokémon having that logic for being Fairy is magic and Wishes it makes total sense.

        • Basically it’s set in an urban fantasy setting, modern cities powered by magic and machine, loving along side different humanoid races whilst simultaneously having everyday occurrences like shopping, gaming, etc

          The jobs in the game are the only thing I’ve started planning, and they’re so far

          Chef – Physical attackers who focus on buffing and debuffing, as well as arming themselves with the elements, rather than sheer force.

          Authors – Those who’s writings are imbued with magic, releasing their violent urges through forceful offense magic. As well as this, they have dark, ice, fire and electricity based spells.

          Actors – Unleash their magic through performance, dramatic supports who whilst in the limelight offer their comrades much needed help. Can heal, but also have earth, water, air and light spells.

          Fortune Tellers – Can use their psychic powers to call forth the thirteen mythical Zodiac Beasts to either deal elemental damages

            It’s weird because it’s tankier and physically stronger than Deci

          • I mean, I think part of the reason is because Deci’s Z move is god tier
            Plus, Sprit shackle was basically spam central
            And that all the battles that give Deci trouble I found easy

          • Incineroar’s Z-Move and signature are pretty much the exact same tho, Ghost and dark have near identical attack qualities and I’m sure they’re the same base power

          • The discrepancies in resistance are what really make a difference (Eyy it rhymed)
            Also, Deci just had so much coverage, grass ghost flying is pretty noice

          • Idk, the only difference is Dark is resisted by two types more than Ghost but Ghost is ineffective on Normal, and Incineroar has the arguably superior options of Fire/Dragon/Dark, Fire/Fighting/Dark, and Fire/Ground/Dark

            It’s probably because we’re both biased tbh, that and/or IVs

            No but seriously, Deci does have better coverage options, I’m fully admitting that if Deci was a grass/flying type with no ghost, it would be Ru or lower. Physical ghost moves are literally what make it good

            Flying and ghost literally hit everything…. and grass patches up the stuff it doesn’t hit
            Literally Dark/steel is the only type it is unable to hit on a frequent basis
            I can see Incineroar’s appeal, but it’s coverage choices don’t strike me as appealing as Decis
            Plus, I’m pretty sure Deci has more stab coverage, which is kinda huge

    Pikipek disappear, gang meets Star who uses her Pikipek as bait. Turns out the Agent of Chaos is stealing them for an unknown reason, Star’s Pikipek evolves and she’s unsure about Trumbeak but willing to try.

    Arc 3 – The Earthman Commeth

    Seraph participates in a battle contest to get Fightinium Z for his Jangmo-o, goes up against Star, Kuppo, Kurusu and an old earthen enemy…

    Arc 4 – Toucan Play at that Game!

    Star’s Toucannon evolves in a battle against Seraph’s Dartrix, she offers it to the agent of Chaos which he accepts. However, it returns to her, and Star leaves the party to perpetually avoid the toucan.

    Arc 5 – Fairy Nice…

    A mysterious ‘Fairy of Chaos’ appears, appearing at first impressive but is actually low ranking, young, and inexperienced. Teases Seraph about Incineroar, giving him more or a desire to slay them all.

    Arc 6 – Fehnal Fantasy

    Earthen, annoyed he didn’t get the Fightinium, launches a full scale assault with his clan against Seraph’s ghostly home town. Who’ll succeed? Seraph destroying the invading Incineroar, or Earthen destroying the town?

          • I was going to write one once, but I didn’t feel like I knew people’s characters well enough. I could just about pull of Star and Earthen because they’re both quite vocal (although they would probably end up as charicatures). Everyone else would end up being generic or I’d end up insulting people my emphasising traits they don’t like.

          • Yeah, the only reason I’m going to do mine is because it’s complete piss take comedy so everyone’s going to be purposefully be a shitty caricature, but even just a slightly more serious fic would be so much more daunting 😮

    • You can mix both. There are parts of this existing world that aren’t very developed, and you could just make different places have drastically different levels of tech or something.

        • If you assume the world to be a vast ocean of mainly small islands and only a few continents you can get away with massive disparities. Or assume a resource shortage in some places to make tech more expensive in less developed places (thus Alola has the Rotom Pokedex but Kanto can’t even afford XTranceivers)

          • Hmm, bad is what is kinda opposite to our heroes (they’re pretty much just defending their own people from an invading tribe) where as chaos is like neutral in that it’s between good and bad but they kinda follow their own goals and aren’t aligned with anyone, not even other ‘chaotic’ characters

    • It’s region free, so normally yes. You do need US based eShop codes if you want to buy on the US store (can be purchased online though), and maybe even an American credit card, but for the rest you should be fine :). Enjoy the Switch!

          • Not that aggressive, it was a dietary change but it was simply a matter of changing its diet. As minerals essential for its ground and rock qualities dwindle, minerals promoting the Steel type would kick in, accompanied by intense breeding programs with steel and normal types

            Also debated having my strain be a district breed from a Rock/Normal ‘OG’ Rhyhorn and the Kantonian variant being another strain

          • It’s vaguely knight esque due to armour, but I decided that it’s mainly for self defense now. Only thing is is that it trades its palm propulsion for a more developed tail which works as a sledge hammer – esque weapon, partially for siege partially for clearing rubble and other obstructions.

            Gets either Sheer Force or an ability that boosts hammer moves, and gets two new moves that are Steel and Ground type that take advantage of this (OG Rhyperior gets this ‘Earth Hammer’ too)

          • Decided it was a bit too convoluted with the change from stone to iron, and I decided to make it more benevolent or neutral origin (king simply misunderstood Rhyperior as a steel type and wanted a steel fuel one) then full on weapon.

            Also old one was a clusterfuck, it had a sword horn cannonball palms and a huge hammer tail

    • Good fake mon line, though I think the last one’s a bit weak. It doesn’t work that well since the name relies on you knowing that uzumaki is the Japanese word for spiral, which most people won’t, and even then spirals aren’t really known for being ghostly or creepy in Japan. There is a Manga called uzumaki that is a classic work of Japanese Horror, but the spirals in that are meant to be a linked theme in the story with everything evil going on being spiral shaped in some way. If anything I’d expect that the name would more work with a Ramen themed pokemon given uzumaki(I think?) are a common garnish or ingredient served with it.

        • Yeah, and very few people outside of Japan would be able to tell you what their names actually mean. They generally get a huge pass since not only were they part of Gen 1, where localization of certain names could be forgiven for not fully thinking them out, but Pikachu’s the mascot of the series. As far as most of us are concerned it was just a weird made up name that someone came up with and not something that would require advanced knowledge of the Japanese language.

So,I just came up with an idea for a Sentai series.It’s Pokemon themed,I’m thinking about calling it Pocket Sentai Monranger (or something like that).I’m thinking about this for the plot:Mythical creatures known as Pokemon inhabit the Earth.They come in various different shapes and sizes,as well as each of them having unique powers.5 teenagers from the real world are sent over to the Pokemon world to defend it from *insert villain name here*,but they can’t do it alone.5 Pokemon transfer over their powers to the group to help them fight against the menace threatening the world.Can they do it? What will happen to them? Can they return home?

  467. Thinking about Season 1 of Steven Universe with all of the mysteries and potential for characters makes me sad. But hey, if it taught me anything, it is how NOT to do an animated show.

    – Always plan out your story
    – Keep characters consistant
    – Keep character designs consistants
    – Use height charts
    – Color pallets are important
    – Pretty art is important
    – If a character fucks up repeatedly (Pearl) don’t let them get away with it.
    – A small amount of heavily developed characters is better than many undeveloped characters

    I wish it would just require that a processor’s byte must be 8 bits.

          • Basically most languages assume a byte is 8 bits because all modern processors have an 8-bit byte and they have done since before the x86 was born.

            C++ however is set up to accomodate processors that might have e.g. 10-bit bytes or 12-bit bytes, so to be truly portable programmers have to account for eventualities that will probably never happen just because they could happen.

            Despite popular theory, C++ isn’t hard because it’s hard to understand, it’s hard because there’s 101 rules and caveats to accomodate.
