Empoleon Announced for Pokkén Tournament

Empoleon has just been announced as a playable character for Pokkén Tournament! The Water/Steel-type will be available in the arcade version beginning on December 15th. Its existence was first hinted at in datamining leaks during summer, but it will finally make its official debut now six months later.

Still no word if the extra characters, including Darkrai and others, will ever make it to the Wii U console version. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for some official word!

  2. It’s weird that there are only 7 3-stage pokemon of the new alola pokemon. There are so many that only evolve once or not at all.

      • Swords Dance + Leaf Blade/Leech Life/Brick Break or Poison Jab tho

Murdered 4/5 of Lusamine’s team and Potion stalled Kukui’s Snorlax to let the rest of my team to be revived before slaughtering it

      • It REALLY should’ve. Bug is a better type than grass, imo, especially if you’re not fast or bulky, which lurantis is neither

        • That’s an odd concept though. I don’t get why they felt the need to switch up what an orchid mantis actually does. Doesn’t make sense.

          • It’s a world where cats shoot fire hair balls and seals can be Fairies

It doesn’t need to make sense. It just gives it a unique twist rather than just straight up giving us a flower mantis.

          • I want more pure bug pokemon though :/ And I would’ve rather had them take the “flower pretends to be bug” concept and apply it to something original than confusingly flip an orchid mantis

          • They could’ve easily added another pure Bug tho w/o Lurantis

And I mean they could, but then we’d just be stuck with a literal orchid mantis doing nothing

        • Also Lurantis gets a boosting move, as well as a draining move, and has better physical Grass move options (though 1 is situational but is still good in-game)

      • Have you used it? In-game, I personally found my one with a genuinely terrible nature to be my best team member

        Competitively? Yeah it’s bad

          • *cough* it would be more appealing if it had been pure bug *cough*

I still find it to be better looking than tsareena (which I think is an ugly lilligant)

          • Tbh the more I step back the less I like about it (Tsareena)

Like its legs are just off-putting, the colour scheme looks like Christmas puked on it, and it feels like they tried to make a waifumon out of fruit

And it has to breed to get anything resembling decent coverage without having to sacrifice an item slot

          • Well, that’s the point of Lurantis. It’s a plant disguised as a bug, not the other way around.

          • That’s just stupid. The only advantage it has in pretending to be a bug is over rock types. It’s still weak to both fire and flying pokemon, like bug type is.

          • Then it should just “adapt” into a bug type magically like the alolan forms. Turning into whatever type you want seems pretty easy in the pokemon world.

          • How does a plant adapt into a bug type?

Also that ruins the point of it. I’m not a fan of the design either but the concept is neat and I respect the pokemon for it.

          • How does an electric mouse start levitating on its tail? 😛

I think “This pokemon was once a grass type plant, but turned into bug type over time to avoid common predators” or some bullshit makes a hell of a lot more sense than “It ate some pancakes and turned into a psychic type.”

          • to be fair the pancakes thing is just a silly theory created by the islanders

Also I stand by my second point, a plant disguising as a bug is an interesting idea and is contrary to what you would expect in the real world.

          • That’s why I don’t like ittttt. Orchid mantis makes sense because the bug is trying to avoid detection so over time it adapted to look like part of a flower. I don’t see how a plant looking like a bug is much of a suitable adaptation. But, whatever, this is a fictional world and a lot of it happens just because they want it to.

          • It could be that the Alola Forms had to change to survive their environment itself, or had a major factor changed (such as diet), where you can’t ‘fake’ a change.

To avoid a predator, you can fake a change because it isn’t factors that would passively kill you, it’s other organisms that can be fooled: but you can’t fool the cold or fluffy pancakes.

  3. Battle Tree is stupid. The Pokemon are so obviously EV trained from the get go.

But we are unable to breed good IV pokemon until we can accrue enough BP to get the Destiny Knot and Power Items

  4. I have officially caught all 4 Tapu Pokemon. Lele was easily the hardest to get to stay in her ball. Took almost 30 balls for her to take. The rest were all under 5 lol

      • Surprisingly Fini was super easy. All I had to do was one Discharge, wait out her Misty Terrain, and then paralyze her. Even with an Aqua ring on and just into the orange from healing herself it only took like one ball after all the set up. I’m surprised as it seemed like everyone was having trouble with her lol

          • Well I’m glad I got lucky. lol Now to finish hunting the UBs and get Necrozma. After that I can continue trying to bother myself to finish the dex so I can properly shiny hunt……..I kind of wish I didn’t have everything I need in the Bank so I’d actually have some initiative. I’d rather wait for the mons I have already, but I want to shiny hunt NOW!!! hahaha

  5. So Battle Royals are a more efficient (and more fun) way to get BP.

It’s actually a very clever battle mode and I love it. Also the AI is intelligent and won’t always go for the obvious KOs when it knows it won’t won’t win. And it gangs up on you sometimes. I’ve only actually won 1 or 2 but it’s definitely more fun than the battle tree.

Also in the Super Royals you get 2 BP for coming second or third and 1BP for coming last

    • We’re basically almost half way to a sinnoh battle frontier, we have 2 facilities lol.

Also no, you’re wrong. Royales against AI are super frustrating and time consuming just to lose.

      Reply
      • Well I’m speaking from my own experiences. I don’t care about losing right now, I just want BP and I find Battle Royals a much better way of earning BP than the battle tree, where battles can take ages cos your using non EV trained Pokemon against EV trained ones, and you get nothing for losing.

    • If I were to use Ribombee (which I probably won’t) I would go for.

      Timid
      252 SpA, 252 Spd
      Quiver Dance
      Bug Buzz
      Dazzling Gleam
      Energy Ball

      • The movesett is the one I use for my in game Ribombee, and I know competitive and on game aren’t exactly comparable but it works very well

        • Honestly in a metagame with a bunch of bulky steel types including but not limited to Scizor, Skarmory and Celesteela that set ain’t doing all too much…unfortunately. However once the metagame settles I see it doing work in the lower tiers.

          • TBF, a set up sweeper should have team support anyway

But Celesteela is such a hilarious counter to it, being 4x resistant to two of the attacks

          • Yeh I agree it should, like Magnet Pull Magnezone for instance. But like I said it’s just gonna struggle to get past a lot of stuff, even set up.

Also Heatran 4x resists all 3 of those attacks :/

          • Heatran’s just been loving everything he gets since his introduction. Even this gen it gets a brand new friend in Tapu Bulu.

  6. Finally. Freaking. Home
Stupid butt fracking job making me work two extra hours, and pick up my brother AND DINNER AND TAKING CARE OF THREE MANGEY DOGS ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH

  7. My biggest generation 6 regret: not hunting for a shiny noibat. Since it’s not in the regional dex (I’m pretty sure) I have no motivation to try.
