Empoleon Announced for Pokkén Tournament

Empoleon has just been announced as a playable character for Pokkén Tournament! The Water/Steel-type will be available in the arcade version beginning on December 15th. Its existence was first hinted at in datamining leaks during summer, but it will finally make its official debut now six months later.

Still no word if the extra characters, including Darkrai and others, will ever make it to the Wii U console version. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for some official word!

  2. I know I’ve asked this before, but without spoilers, do we ever find out why the ultra beasts resemble certain people (Lillie, Lusamine, etc)

    • Again yes, and I can totally spoil the reason if you want. 🙂

It’s not directly stated like: “Lillie: I look like UB-01 because…”

It’s kinda subtle so the clues are missable.

      • I thought Nihilego resembled lillie because Lusamine modeled lillie after it because it was the only thing she really “loved” so she try to mold lillie in its image.

      • Not really. Lusamine was telling her children and possibly Guzma to dress and have hairdos the way she wants. Since she was obsessed with UB, all of them including Lusamine herself were changed to resemble the UB’s rather than the UB’s coincidentally resembling the characters.

      • That’s sorta what I’m thinking, though it’s interesting to see that Lillie doesn’t have Nebby, and even can’t touch Pokemon for that matter, I’m interested in seeing where thats going, and how they’re gonna handle Ultra Beasts, and finally, Necrozma, it can’t all be in School that would be a bit boring after about 10 episodes

        • I want Team Skull to show up more.

Since they’re gonna be wacky unlike BW’s Plasma, they hopefully need not be stuck as the focus of the later part of a season only when things get serious…

Unless, they’re gonna be forgetting Skull even exists since Rocket is around…

        • Well Lillie is going to get a Alolan Vulpix but I really freaking hope the main cast gets new Pokemon
Because what truly pissed me off is they barely let Clemont of Serena have any new new Pokemon (I was so annoyed that she didn’t get an Absol)

          • I always believed that Serena would be the perfect girl for Ash. In case you missed the episode with the Rhyhorn race, Ash’s kindness and encouraging spirit won Serena’s heart back at that summer camp when they were little.

          • She’s the worst female companion ever
Bland boring girly girl who only stuck around because she wanted Ash’s butt

            Good riddance

          • I could write an entire essay about how you are wrong, but there’s no point since you most likely didn’t even watch it.

    • I’d be willing to bet that after a certain amount of episodes of them doing the school thing the Trial captains part ways to go to their trial grounds and Ash decides to then take full part in the challenge. He’s already stated that he wants to officially become worthy of using Z Crystals so in order to do that he’ll need to take the trials at some point. I can’t see them keeping him at the school forever.

Hey Earthen. I need some advice on ground types for a vgc team. I need something that can generally eat a hit well from a trickroom Torkel, which isn’t a small task given the limit of the Alola dex. Any suggestions? Initial thought was gastrodon given that its large hp stat and water typing would be able to eat those overheats/heatwave’s. Though I”d rather have the opinion of our own ground fanatic in pointing out a good mon for that situation.

      • I was thinking that too, Garchomp is just a powerful Ground type
        Amazing speed
        Ridiculous power
Can either be a wall or a all out sweeper (granted the sweeper role hasn’t been strong lately more of a early game Stealth rocker slash Rocky rough skin

        • I love Garchomp, but I feel like its speed will be its downfall here. I need something food in trickroom. Garchomps just too fast with not only Torkel being able to do some good damage to it, but 3/4 tapu’s outspeed it.

          • Well
            Jolly
            252 Attack 252 Speed 4 Sp Def
            Dragon Claw
            Earthquake
            Poison Jab/Iron Head
            Crunch/Rock Slide/Swords Dance

            This is pretty standard

          • And that’s a great set, and I’ve used it myself, but I need something that’s a good counter in trickroom. Something that has really low speed. Like I’m actually considering Palossand. 35 base speed will make it go second in almost all trickroom battles(torkel will always go first), torkel can only 2 shot it with solar beam, where it can oneshot it with earth power provided it has 124 or less ivs in S. defense, which isn’t impossible given the physical bias of competitive and wanting to take advantage of that 140 base defense on that beast. Combined with giga drain, sludge bomb for fairy’s and protect and it could be a decent set.

          • that’s option B, but I need more of a special attacker against a Torkel. As well Porygon/Orangru are threats, but a bit less since their both weak enough to be taken down easily.

          • Not a bad choice, but with torkel’s base defense being 140, and it being a physical attack, and torkel having instant solar beams, it’s not an ideal fit.

          • Truuue. It’s been a headache dealing with the fact than minimum speed Torkoal is slower than minimum speed Gigalith so it gets weather control and is faster under Trick Room.

        • Using only Scolipede and Mega Garchomp, I was able to successfully sweep team in Ubers

?⚔️?? I killed everything in sight except Lugia which was really annoying

          Reply
          • Honestly the speed drop isn’t a total cripple
That solid 170 freaking attack paired with Sand Force makes anything touching the ground dead

And it can take a couple of blows

      • enemy’s torkel. Trying to figure out a good counter for it given I’m messing around with an E-terrain team and it pretty much shuts down half my team.

        Reply
        • Well given Torkoal’s new Drought Gastrodon is a very bad choice since it now has Insta Solarbeams

As Someguy stated Garchomp is pretty solid because I honestly doubt they’re carrying HP Ice, but if you wanted to stick in the Alola region maybe consider a Special or Mixed Minior

    • You probably shouldn’t wait to tank it. Do you have a taunter or fake outer to delay trick room going up?

Does it really have to be a Ground-type? You can consider replacing the weather with Pelipper or Politoed or Gigalith. These also resist fire so they’re decent switch-ins. Plus, messing with the weather also weakens Solar Beam as well. Rain also synergizes with any Thunder you might want to run.

If there’s enough expected Torkoals in your event, I might even think of running Water Sport or Light Screen.
