8/12 New Pokémon Sun & Moon Trailers

The trailer for Pokémon Sun & Moon has been released early (which made me pause Nathan for You) and contains information we saw from the leaks earlier today! Here’s a recap:

  • Team Skull is revealed along with its leader Guzma and Admin Plumeria
  • New Pokémon Wishiwashi and Pyukumuku are shown in battle, both with interesting animations (Innards Out, which does damage based on Pyukumuku’s health before the final blow that KOs it!)
  • The trailer reveals one brand-new Pokémon Morelull
  • We finally see Alolan Meowth, Raichu & Marowak in action. It is heavily implied Pikachu & Cubone do not have Alola forms

  1. Alolan Raichu looks like a Greek God pet.
Some neat stuff revealed this week. Team Skull looks good.
Hopefully we will get more gameplay in future trailers, I’ve got enough Pokes.

  2. So this trailer confirms that normal Cubone in Alola evolves into Alolan Marowak.
But if we transfer Cubone from XY will it evolve into regular Marowak? Or just being in Alola means that it will evolve into Alolan form…

    Reply
    • Being in Alola would make them evolve into their Alolan forms. They evolve to adapt to their surroundings. Which makes me think, if the Ledyba in Alola will evolve into an Alolan Ledian.

      Reply
    • No. They have to be Alola born to evolve into their Alola form. Proven by them stating, if we want the original forms.. we must transfer them to the game. Meaning want a regular Raichu? Transfer a regular Pikachu to Alola first.

      Reply
      • I also think this will be the case. I think these Alolan forms are example of hundreds of years of adaptation to Alola region. So Alolan born and raised (regular looking) Pikachu will evolve into Alolan Raichu. On the other hand transferred Pikachu will evolve into regular Raichu.

    • Well pure electric Pikachu evolves in alolan raichu electric physic i Can get by, but ground cubone in ghost fire marowak is just odd

      Reply
    • With Pikachu I understand it, it needs an evolutionary stone and that could affect it.
But Cubone totally goes of the chart, I understand adding fire type but why add ghost and taking of Ground completely.

But maybe this is just an example for an out of Alola imported Cubone.

  3. Today was crazy awesome. I wanted to enjoy it fully with you guys but I was playing at the beach during the events. I still tried my best to see the leaks as they happened 😛 Alolan Raichu is one of my favorite things to happen with these games thus far.

  4. I also guessed the fishes ability. It seems a bit like defeatist.. like it will be useless after loosing half hp. So I worry it won’t be competitive enough.

  5. I really dont know why they changed raichus mouth to make him look as cute as pichu ? he is even cuter than pikachu :/ even worse he evolve from normal pikachu

    • I get you’re disappointed.. ive complained about things too… But forum after forum.. you keep posting new comment after comment about your anger over the same thing. Why not try staying under your original comment..

  6. I like how Raichu surfs using its own tail, but is it unaffected by ground moves? (if it is then it’s worth using it). I used one for the first time the last time I played Y but it wasn’t that strong so hopefully he’ll gain more stats. And I understand they want the Fairy type to have more pkm considering it was released last gen but what’s the point of these miniature pkm that you can easily kill by stepping on them? Fairies could be so cool but they only keep going for the same pixie look. And finally, I can’t wait for them to reveal a good dark type a la Zoroark. Praying for that

    Reply
    • It’s still weak to Ground. But, it’s stats will likely be upgraded.
Also now it will likely learn electric terrain which it couldn’t before.
With its High Speed already doubled.. and Sp.Atk increased by 50% for 5 turns…
It will Surely be a force to be reckoned with. Even if it’s frail.

  7. there’s that mushroom, confirming the pretty much comfirmed chinease leaks even further. BTW, what exactly does insides out do? it just destroyed that hariyama.

  8. Yo… . Raichu bout to be Op. Only problem I can think of is if you use nuzzle to boost electro ball ..that kind of wastes a turn if using electric terrain Also. Plus a super speedy Psychic type..

Might have to use one instead of water archanine if that’s real ?

  9. I totally forgot, we also didn’t get Bewear’s pre-evo today. That whole page is CoroCoro-exclusive. We can expect those to be revealed sometime later this month (hopefully).

  10. Holy cow! Its a small detail but, can I just say, its awesome that team skull uses more than just normal poke balls for their pokemon, You can see them throw out 2 nest balls and then an ultra ball, I love it!

  11. I love the fact that team skull members use different pokeballs (safari ball, ultra ball, etc). I am a sucker for small details like that.

  12. Standard Pikachu evolving into Alolan Raichu is fine, but Standard Cubone evolving into Alolan Marowack is just strange…

Also I love the Team Skull Logo.

    Reply
  13. Standard cubone evolving in alolan marowak is almost impossible. Ground to fire/ghost is too strange! Is it possible that they’re just keeping cubone/pikachu/exggcute for a future reveal? They seem to cut on the evolution…

    Reply
    • With Pikachu and Exegcute its fine, it makes sense, since they keep the same primary typing.
With Cubone on the other hand….that’s just too weird

      Reply
    • Maybe there’s a spiritual theory behind his change of typing? I mean, ground can represent that one is attacked to earthling things, but when they die they transcend that and go to heaven (ghost). The fire could represent purification and it maybe has some ties with the death of the Cubone’s mother. Idk lol

      Reply
  14. we also have confirmation that the opposing trainers poke balls can be different , while the grunts are using safari balls , the girl leader is seen using an ultra ball. Neat little touch that adds to every trainer its own trait and whatnot .

    Togetic
    Rowlett(Final Evo)
    Arcanine (Water Alolan)/ Pyukumuku ?
    Raichu (Alolan) ?

Really didn’t want 2 Alolan forms. .. but if both turn out awesome.. well heck!

      I’ve started translitterating it.
They use phrases like ‘dazae’, ‘dayo’ and ‘atai’ which are typical hoodlum ways of speaking.

  17. I was just wondering, if I have a Cubone in ORAS, and I were to evolve it in S/M; would the Marowak be Alolan or regular. Meaning only Alola native Cubone can become Alolan Marowak.

        Ironically it’s like Makkapakka.

        • I said to separate it in order to memorize the name more easily, I didn’t say that’s how we’re supposed to pronounce it. My native language’s Portuguese and pronouncing Japanese names is not hard at all. (idk if pyu’s name is Japanese but it sure sounds like it)

          Reply
          • Portuguese has a few similarities to Japanese.

            Obrigado vs Arigatou for example.
(Literally the only Portuguese word I know)

          • I speak the Brazilian version, so open vowels are pretty easy for me. I’ll teach you a new one: Oi means hi 🙂 (I almost never speak Portuguese anymore so I’m not the best person to teach you the language haha)

          • Understandable.
I used to know a Portuguese man who moved to England. He anglicised his name to ‘John’ and if you met him you’d probably never realise he was Portuguese.
Sadly he died many years ago from cancer.

          • Oh, that’s sad :/
I live in France (here for uni but I’m probably going to stay around afterwards) and even though I speak French fluently people can recognize that I’m not French (little accent, but def not Brazilian). Same for English, I used to study at an American school in Brazil but I’ve actually never lived in an English-speaking country (I’ve been to London once for a few days but that’s it). I have a sis who’s studying in the US though

          • Yeah, I think it’s been about 9-11 years now.
            Neat.
I’m not very good with speaking foreign languages. I can speak a bit of French, German and Japanese, but often get them mixed up.
Also most of my Japanese is impolite because I learnt most of it from watching subbed episodes of One Piece and Fairy Tail. n_n’

Luckily I’m better at programming, where I’m fluent in many ‘languages’ 😀

London is nothing like the rest of England. I’ve been there twice for day-trips and it felt like a foreign country. (Because of the way it’s built, not because of the people)

          • I love learning languages, but after my plans to go study in Japan didn’t work out I decided to stick to Latin languages which are easier for me. Currently learning Italian because I wanna go study there (I’m half Italian but I don’t speak it lol). Programming is something I could never do! Looks really complicated. And I actually really liked London, I love cities like that but I’m def going to visit other parts of England and the rest of the UK once I get the chance.

  20. I’ve been working on a translation but I’m not very good.
So far all I can confirm is that he’s definately referring to him and Kukui being similar and mentioning the Captains, so the quote about “fellow failed Captains” is almost certainly about Kukui and him.

        • I feel he could have added a power house Gen.6 like Gogoat, Avalugg, Pyroar, Pangoro, Trevanant but he uses Unfezant

          Reply
          • Definately. Nobody likes Unfezant, it’s just an inferior Pigeot/Staravia 😛

Gogoat would have been my choice since that’s what I used on my playthrough. Did not regret that one bit. Thrashed Siebold easily 😀

Ironically my team actually turned out to be really good against the elite 4 despite me choosing them purely because I liked them, without knowing the E4’s typings. It only took me one attempt to beat the champion.

          • That’s cool my play through teams were
Chesnaught, Vivillon, Florges, Gogoat, Blastoise, Lucario, Sylveon, Carbink, Noivern

  25. Ok, I’ve slogged through, this is what I’ve got so far.
People better at Japanese, please correct me:

atashi wa purumeri – I am Plumeri
sukarudan wo tabanete iru – Team Skull are in control
iunareba anegotte tokoro – So to speak they call me “ane” (elder sister)?
anta mo shitte no toori – in the same way that you know? (you as well know in the same way?)
(re/wa)nchyuu baka bakkari de nee – … stupid only with “nee” (sister)?

sateto atai no deban dane – now then, (it’s) my turn dane

From what I can tell from the translation is that this is possibly the first time the player meets Pulmeria.

        Reply
        • It almost certainly is. same for Guzuma.

I think the most interesting thing about the translation is the way they talk though. Plumeri uses “atai”, which is a very informal version of “atashi”, really cementing the delinquent theme.

          • I’ve heard that a lot of the language they use tends to be slang. That’s pretty cool, we’ve got an evil team that’s not a professional organisation.

          • Yeah, it would make a nice change for a ‘gang culture’ villain instead of proper Yakuza/Mafia/Cultist style villains.

  26. The whole Cubone to Alolan Marowak doesn’t make sense at the moment but that’s because for the most part, there isn’t much information on it.
What if you can only evolve Cubone with Kiawe/he gives you a native Cubone that has the potential to evolve into an A.’Wak? Maybe around the volcano, the Cubone learns dances that can summon the spirit of it’s deceased mother and upon evolution, being near to the fire & the spirits, it evolves? This combined with the fact that it’s trying to escapes the predators (maybe even Bewear seeing as it’s type counters it nicely)?
Maybe I’m just grasping at straws here but I’m sure there is a reason as to it’s typing

  30. Alola Marowak came to exist because of the high amount of Grass types in the Alola region. Its keen sixth sense triggered the change.

    Reply
  31. Website states that Guzma ”has a bone to pick with Kukui” so they are definitely connected, as was suggested by someone already yesterday. I think Kukui used to be a Skull member but went rogue because he disagreed with their beliefs.

    Reply
  32. The Marowak in the Alola region take bones and light both ends on fire by rubbing them against their foreheads. Then they spin the bones around! Marowak’s rarity and its fearsome appearance when it dances with its bone led the people of Alola to dub it a conjurer and regard it with fear.

There are many Grass-type Pokémon—Marowak’s natural enemies—in the Alola region. This makes Alola a harsh environment for Cubone and Marowak. As a result, they live in close union with their partners. It’s said that their great care for their partners allowed them to gain something like a sixth sense and resulted in their changed form.

The Alolan Marowak proves skilled at an attack in which it waves its bone and releases a ball of flame. The fireballs are not that powerful, but they tirelessly pursue the foe!

  33. Due to their appearance and their lifestyle, Pyukumuku are considered unappealing to tourists. Part-time work chucking Pyukumuku back into the sea is available at tourist beaches. But no matter how far they’re thrown, Pyukumuku will always return to the same spot.

Once a Pyukumuku finds a place it likes, it won’t budge from it. If someone moves it away, back it comes to the same spot. If it runs out of food to eat in that spot, it’ll stay there—and starve. The people of Alola found this so pitiful that they developed a tradition of chucking Pyukumuku back into the food-rich sea whenever they come across any thin-bellied Pyukumuku.

Pyukumuku are covered with a slippery, viscous fluid that has a moisturizing effect. Pyukumuku can stay on land for a week without drying out. The people of Alola use this fluid for skincare products.

Pyukumuku hate to have their spikes and mouths touched, and if you step on one, it will hurl out its fist-like inner organs to strike at you.

Pyukumuku has a new Ability, Innards Out, which no other Pokémon has had before. With the Innards Out Ability, when this Pokémon faints, it will be able to deal one last bit of damage to its opponent, equal to the amount of HP it had left before it received the final blow.

JESUS CHRIST DO NOT 1HKO THESE THINGS

  34. The Raichu in Alola have two types—Electric and Psychic—and they are able to wield psychic power. What’s more, they can gather their psychic power in their tails and then ride on them to float in the air!

Even Pokémon researchers don’t know why Raichu’s form changed in the Alola region. The people of Alola seem unconcerned by the question. Their guess: maybe it ate too many sweet and fluffy round pancakes!

Raichu has electric sacs on its cheeks, and rubbing them causes a sweet aroma to be released. The mechanism behind this is not clear, but it’s thought to be connected to the psychic power that Alolan Raichu possess.

The Alolan Raichu has a new Ability, Surge Surfer, which no other Pokémon has previously had. With the Surge Surfer Ability, the Pokémon’s Speed will be doubled on Electric Terrain.

…….Alright I’m personally going to destroy all Raichu, Alolan Variants are a joke now

  36. I still don’t get why many of you are complaining about Cubone changing types: yeah, it’s the first time it’s happened but what’s the problem? If you really need an ‘explanation’ to why that happens then just tell yourself that Cubone has the new genes but that they only become active upon evolution. + it’s perfectly fine if gamefreak wanted to give raichu a new form without a reason to. It’s Pokemon, don’t try to look too much into everything (we have a fish that turns into an octopus and this is shocking you guys?)

    Reply
    • I think it’s less about unhappiness that it’s a normal Cubone and more confusion……Although the description makes sense for Marowaks change, it doesn’t really make any sense for Cubone to stay the same…..a ground type evolving into a Fire/Ghost type is quite perplexing lol

      Reply
      • I see Marowak as a sort of shaman so a complete change in typing doesn’t seem that weird. They could’ve given cubone an alolan form but they didn’t, and that’s not gonna ruin the game in any way. And Pikachu’s probably not getting any because, well, it’s pikachu.

        Reply
        • If they’d made the lore explicitly state ‘Marowak took up shamanism’ I would have bought that explanation. The current explanation is too loose and unbelieveable.

          Reply
        • Who said it’ll ruin the game? Also I think it makes more sense for Pikachu to not get one. Raichu is still part electric type so it doesn’t really matter if Pikcachu or Pichu get forms lol

          Reply
    • I tend to think of it like this: Every single Pokemon is a single species. And by that I mean I look at a Pokemon and every stage in its evolutionary line and consider them each completely different species. Connected through a metamorphosis like evolutionary change. So they both have a real world evolutionary tract.

So with Marowak and Cubone, both species evolved separately from each other. Pokemon are know to be able to get really old without evolving, like that one elder Treeko from the anime. So if they can go through life unevolved then there species could evolve over time separately. So marowaks on the island became fire/ghost while the Cubone species didn’t need to evolve.

      Reply
          • No, the Pokemon are seperate species but are connected by a metamorphological change. This changed form would be in the pokemons DNA. Every species on earth has dna that isn’t active. So when Cubone are born on Alola, they will evolve into the Marowak of Alola because that’s what’s in the dna of those Cubone on that island. The two species evolved different but are connected still, even with those changes, by this metamorphological change.

  37. Sheesh they really didn’t care enough to make a reason for Raichu’s change lol Anyway interesting stuff. Although I can’t help, but feel like this is one of the more underwhelming announcements we’ve gotten. Cool stuff for sure, but it just doesn’t have that kick that the others had for me. (Also be careful people don’t read into you giving your pokemon the name of a person you know as an indication that you like said person more than you’re admitting, because that would be really cliché.)

          • I was thinking of Puka but then I thought that a lot of people are going to name their surfer Pikachus Puka. I was also thinking of Kahula but then I though how dumb that would be for an electric/psychic type. Sparky is a cute name though :D. thanks for the name help

            Are opinions banned now?

Naomi is perfectly free to say “I disagree and like what I’ve got already” – humans have free will last time I checked.

          • no giving your opinion is just fine, as long as you make sure others understand its an opinion, instead you made it sound like a fact with saying how things are wrong and how they should be corrected, this poor kid probably is now worried that they are going to get picked on for their naming choices or something when in reality you seem to be the only one who cares

          • Exactly. And this part: “Also be careful people don’t read into you giving your pokemon the name of a person you know as an indication that you like said person more than you’re admitting, because that would be really cliché. Ultimately though I’d just think naming apokemon after a real person is a bit odd. Especially when you have to pet them in pokemon amie.”

          • Don’t listen to Pharap. It’s your game and your Pokémon. You’re free to name them whatever the hell you want! Caught a Salandit and wanna name it Sammy? Go right the hell on and name it Sammy. Caught a Miltank and wanna name her Teets?
Go right the hell on and name her Teets!

Point is, don’t let someone tell you what the proper etiquette to naming a Pokémon is because there isn’t any. Wattson is a wonderful name for a Raichu, whether it’s male or female, and I think the name Bow suits a Bewear perfectly.

          • I’m allowed to give an opinion.
Naomi’s free to ignore my opinion.

All I’m saying is that it’ll save having to explain 100 times over why the male Beware is called “Bow” and the female Raichu appears to be named after a male gym leader.

          • You’re not giving an opinion. That all changes when you tell someone they should or shouldn’t do something, which is exactly what you’ve done.

An opinion: The name Fritzy would be a better name than Wattson.
You: You shouldn’t name your female Raichu Wattson as it’s a boy’s name. Surnames shouldn’t be used as nicknames. Name it something else.

See the difference? Don’t go telling someone what to do when trying to give an opinion because it doesn’t remain an opinion anymore. You’re projecting a preference.

      • Bow isn’t feminine.

Have you not ever heard of the name Beau?
The name Beau is a French baby name.
In French the meaning of the name Beau is handsome.

          • It’s the same shit. Bow isn’t even uncommonly used as a girl’s name. It’s rarely used. If anything, it’s unisex, but more often used as a name for males.

          • agreed, tbh any name can be unisex if you’re a boy and your parents name you like ashley and it becomes popular amoung boys then that name because unisex (ashley is actually a really popular boys name where I live)

          • I never said anything about Ashley, of course Ashley is unisex. The first Ashley I met was male. The only female Ashleys I’ve seen are fictional, but that counts.

          • I was making a point but clearly it went flying over your head, I hope you at least waved at it as it passed by.

          • yeah dude it is, you can change the name to any name you want and my point still stands, change it to Cassandra for all I care, it doesn’t invalidate my point… try again…

          • Name a relatively famous male and female with the name ‘Bow’ and I’ll believe you.
So far all I’ve found is forums saying “Bo or Beau but not Bow, you spell it Bow the boy will be totally harrassed”

          • It’s a Pokémon, for Arceus’ sake! Let alone, it’s a fictional character in a video game about raising imaginary monsters as companions. Everyone is allowed to name their Pokémon just about whatever they want as long as it’s not offensive. The fact still remains: Do not impose onto someone your own personal preference. An opinion, however, is just fine. After all, we’ve all got one.

    • My names for my team are

Popplio- Goofball cause he looks so goofy and I love it!

Gumshoos- Crunchy for his love of food!

Komala- Sleepy for his sleepy nature

Bounsweet- Sweetipie for her Sweetness and Cuteness

Minior- Astro for it’s astronomical likeness

Mimikyu- Mimi for her mimicking of Pikachu

        • I’ll say it again. Changing consoles mid-gen is not likely. They never did that even when they had the chance to do so with Black 2 and White 2. Why would they do it now?

          • if they release the remake of Diamond and Pearl on the 3ds, then that would be lazy, because you can play the DS game of Diamond, Pearl and Platinum on the 3DS. It’ll end up being like Twilight Princess again.

Also, what is this little bracelet thing on the Trainer’s bag. The male trainer also had one. It represents the colours of each main island. • Vikavolt: 2 weaknesses, 4 resistances, 1 immunity

      Raichu: 4 weaknesses, 5 resistances

Vikavolt seems more viable unless you’re willing to run the speed boosting electric terrain every battle.

      • You still have to remember the type combos. Weakness don’t matter as long as you have ways to counter them. I’d say it’s too early to know. Yet, I’d go for Alolan Raichu purely on design.

        Reply
      • In-game it isn’t going to matter much so use what you prefer.

But competitive, Alola Raichu is gonna be a beast in doubles or triples. I mean there’s already a decent doubles combo for it: a team up with Tapu Koko. Raichu does have Fake Out so it’s not like you will die if if they start with a Pokemon that has Earthquake.

        Reply
        • True. I’m just going with statistics and only thinking of an ‘up to the champion’ run.
Statistically Vikavolt has better odds and Raichu’s ability takes a bit of time to start.

I dunno how other people do things, but for gym battles I don’t bother wasting time with stats and tricky moves, I just spam powerful moves until the other pokemon faint 😛 Works 9 times out of 10 (or should that be 7 times out of 8?)

Why can’t they see that our country can do better than Europe by trading with the rest of the world.

          • Not going to say I disagree or agree, but if we start getting political things might get ugly.

There’s still a lot of hatred from both sides for each other 😛

(And yes I did vote, and did have an opinion, I just want to keep things civil)

          • It’s more a matter of geography than politics. We are an island, ergo we are not part of the european continent.

Thank you for remembering we’re still technically in the EU though, despite all the ministers shutting our PM out of proceedings.

          • yep my bad. the Asian continent consists of of course mainland Asia and every other nearby countries like the Philippines (where i live lol), Japan, Indonesia, etc~ so i thought Britain was still part of the Eurpean continent hahaha

          • Asia’s probably an exception because it’s full of archipelagos (chains of islands). Plus the way they were discovered probably had an impact on how the maps were drawn.

In the early days of cartography, cartographers basically had free roam and actually named some places, and put in some fake places to prove a map was theirs (called paper towns).

    • Living in London all my life, it would actually be really cool to see a region based on the UK. I mean there are quite a few landmarks that are pretty cool (Stonehenge, Angel of the North, London Eye, Hadrians Wall etc).
It would be a nice combination of modernised cities with rural towns in between.

Or do the core games all take place in the same games and remakes take place… Ughhh Pokemon has officially become Zelda time wise! If Sun/Moon take place in the non-Mega universe, then that would explain the no Mega-evolution, but if you do go back to Kalos and the main conflict involves P. Zygarde and mega energy… Hopefully the leaks are right and Sun/Moon take place in the Mega universe.

    • I’ve talked about this before and Zinnia explains it well. Basically, the original timeline is the same with the Mega Universe. Just image all of the older games with Mega Evolution. I believe Sun/Moon will continue it do the discovery of the Fairy-Type, potential Key Stone slot, and it’s advanced technology.

    • Yeah the timeline is kind of a massive mess atm, I guess we can just assume all games before XY occur in the non-mega timeline, or maybe all games except RS/ORAS/XY occur in both timelines until remade… But then what about RGBY and FRLG ? Dammit I give up haha.
Honestly if SM occurs in the non-mega timeline that’s just gonna be shit, especially since Z-moves are a thing (and so are fairies as libra pointed out).

      • It’s not a marketing plan towards “genwunners.” First of all, wouldn’t genwunners hate these redesigns of their childhood Pokémon? Second of all, genwunners aren’t the only ones who grew up with the first generation of Pokémon. I think the opposite of a genwunner should be a PokéVeteran cause I’ve been on this Pokémon ride since it first began and have loved just about everything about the franchise since. I still can’t stand Pokémon GO, though.

        • Sadly, for a huge company such as GameFreak, every move and thing they do is marketing. Yes there may be fan-service here and there, but even those can still somehow be attributed with marketing. The business world is a sly fox all on its own.

          Reply
          • Well, I agree that there is, of course, marketing. But, I don’t believe these Alolan versions or Mega Charizard and Mega Mewtwo are a ploy solely to attract genwunners. Stereotypicaly, genwunners don’t like much change. There are also others who love Pokémon as a whole and people who’s favorite Pokémon are from the first generation. I think Game Freak is just trying to appeal to everyone while keeping their franchise fresh. That’s what I get.

          • No, I agree. I believe these Alola variants are a marketing ploy to attract new players who recently got into Pokemon through other means (Pokemon Go for example) and a staple for any fan is to know the first 151 Pokemon. Thus, by giving these already well known Pokemon, there’s not only hype for veteran fans, but also for newer fans. It’s also a great strategic move because news outlets and media is much more inclined to report about already known property being toyed with and thus creates more conversations. Additioally, giving these Pokemon competitive viability will create much hype for competitive players along with the new Pokemon. Last but not least, it’s just a really good choice because of several factors that I don’t think I have to get into.

          • I get you. But, I’m not so sure that the ones who have recently jumped onto the bandwagon through Pokémon GO are gonna go out and buy Pokémon Sun or Moon along with a 3DS. Not from what I’ve seen, at least. I feel like everyone knows about the franchise, especially the first 151, but they’re only playing the app cause everyone else is doing it and it’s free. I have doubts that this refresher to the series will pull in older fish. But, either way, the more the merrier, and as long as the ones who truly love Pokémon play and get together, that’s all that matters.

          • I concur. But you have to admit, those 100%+ jumps in sales for recent Pokemon titles after Pokemon Go are promising! 😀

        • I agree with you 100% Im a PokeVeteran as well, Ive been playing since red lol and i love every generation but ill never play GO

I’ve either owned or played each generation. I didn’t own X or Y, but my ex (who’s like a best friend now) owned X and I played it a lot when he came over. I plan on owning Moon for damn sure!

I mean come on, I saw a post not that long ago, with some stupid “newby” complaining about Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle, being horrible designs for NEW Pokemon, and that the original Pokemon were better. I was like WHAT?!?! OMG Those ARE the original you fool. LOL So I am very VERY glad for these “Alolan forms” and I don’t care if they are from gen one or gen two, or even gen six. – Project AZOTH
    – Ancients (the people who lived in Alola before the current age)
    – Infinity Energy (life force of Pokemon)
    – Mega Energy (the energy released by Mega-Pokemon during evolution)
    – It all comes together (the phrase that has everyone talking and guessing)
    – Z-Moves (just what are they?)
    – Zygarde and its forms
    – AZ Floette (is this thing still relevant?)

Roxie was in a band, so it made sense that they would have words/lyrics to their songs, it would be weird if they didn’t
Elesa’s gym was a runway, so it made sense to have the pump up music and female vocals
and this theme just screams Skull to me.

What’s especially grating is the poor justification behind the ghost typing, which could have been done so much better than that social attunement sixth sense bullshit, especially taking into account a certain gen I cubone’s backstory, and the confusion over wether that applies to all cubones… Would it have been that difficult to include shamanism or marowak graveyards in the description?
I mean they could at least have put something along the lines of “Alolan Marowak only gain advantage over their predators upon evolution, and as such must actively protect their vulnerable cubone offspring “, to justify this.

And Alolan Raichu’s description is just taking the piss. It’s not even funny, it’s just bad.

And these forms started out so well too… I hope GF step it up with the biology here, the idea of regional variants is great but they’re applying it like a poorly conceived fan concept.

Eh, at least design wise they’re not bad.

This is what they were going for.. they just didn’t exaggerate it enough to show fans. They just think Pikachu sucked.

    • Yeah it’s nice to see Ash act like the skilled trainer he should be and not like a dumb beginner, and to see pikachu act like it’s level 100 and not level 15.

      • What? Who doesn’t love the theme. I’m getting kinda tired of super serious evil teams. We needed a break. These guys have a bunch of personality and heart. Their theme sounds outstanding. The Japanese Trailer has the Battle Theme for the grunts and the English Trailer had the Encounter Theme. Do you not like vocals in video game music?

I’m all for fun, but not if it means giving the villains a rap theme.

          Vocals aren’t very ‘pokemon’ though.
Part of the charm of pokemon is that everyone can appreciate the instrumental music because culture is irrelivant when the music has no words.

          • I dunno, I think it fits them, I dunno what else they could have done to give off the Team Skull vibe.
And I think people can appreciate music with or without vocals.
But I do think that vocals should only be used if it fits with the person, place or thing.
It made sense all the times vocals were added to the tracks.

          • I’m just not liking it, which is a genuine first for team themes. I’ve had ‘meh’ but not ‘dislike’.

          • That’s not even rap. Splatoon did something very similar in terms of music. It’s more of just mixing various sounds. It fits the grunts and that’s all that matter tbh.

          • It’s hip hop inspired. A lot of people tend to dislike hip hop inspired music. I pay it no mind. These themes are incredible!

        • No, the only time I thought it was fine was in Xenoblade Chronicles X. It’s not about how serious the team is to me, it’s just that the music doesn’t appeal.

          Reply
          • It’s cool. Not all music appeals to everyone. I personally like. I love the feel to the theme. GameFreak music has had vocals before. It’s nothing new to me.

        • I didn’t finish it all, and some of it might actually be quite off because my hiragana is rusty (haven’t actually attempted to translate something this major in a few years) but:

          Plumeri:
“atashi wa purumeri” – I am Plumeri
“sukarudan wo tabanete iru” – Team Skull are in control
“iunareba anegotte tokoro” – So to speak they call me “ane” (elder sister)?
“anta mo shitte no toori” – in the same way that you know? (you as well know in the same way?)
“(re/wa)nchyuu baka bakkari de nee” – … stupid only with “nee” (sister)?

“sateto atai no deban dane” – now then, (it’s) my turn dane

          Guzma:
“butsu koreshitemo butsu koreshitemo “-*mutter* even if destroyed *mumble* even if destroyed (probably him raving about not passing the captain trials)
          “te wo yurumenakute kirarereru” –
          “buzumatokiga kokoni iruza” –

          “shikimegu nankashite”
“nanni narunda yo?” – What (something) yo?

“kukui san yo” – Mr Kukui yo (roughly)
“anta to are wa ontagai” – You and me are (didn’t finish)
“kyaputain wa narenakatta mo no doushi”
          “hakai toiu kotobaga”
          “hito no katachi wo shiteirunoga”
“kono ore saki guzuma dazae” – … I (informal) … Guzma dazae (informal ‘cool’ sentance thingy)

          Reply
          • Yeah, I got that in the later ones (“sateto atai no deban dane”). I was just trying to rush it all down tbh and atai wasn’t something I’d encountered before, I read ‘ata… wa’ and my brain filled the blank as ‘shi’ since that’s what I’ve heard more of 😛

I had to break up all the ‘wa’ and ‘no’ and ‘to’ as well, it really wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped DX

Feel free to make more corrections though. For my first pass I couldn’t identify ‘ri’ correctly because I only knew about one of the two forms it can take.

          • Totally understandable 🙂 Although, why did she say atai instead? It means price or value. Is she trying to say ‘I am the valued Plumeri’?
And with the help of a somewaht reliable translator and my knowledge, I got at least some idea what the other lines mean
After he does the mumbling, he mentions alot about being broken and fractured (either himself or something else)
and the other lines are covered in the English trailer, so I really didn’t bother trying to translate them.

          • ok awesome, glad to have that cleared up 🙂 I wasn’t sure myself as I haven’t gotten too far yet in my studies

          • I had to look it up myself. Like I say, my brain filled it in as ‘atashi’ so it’s obvious how it came to be used in slang.

          • Yeah, and it makes sense she used it, as it’s mostly used by females.
In my class, we’ve only really learned watashi and boku, but I’ve learned atashi through listening to Japanese songs :3

          • I’ve only ever had a few weeks of proper teaching from a bilingual teaching aide. Everything else I know is from a book and subs of One Piece and Fairy Tail n_n’

I just happen to know a lot of good sites to look up words 😛

          • Oh and I did the grunts lines.
The first part is just them being pumped up with words like ‘Alright, let’s do this!’
With the fence scene, the grunt says something along the lines of them ‘plucking the yellow sea?’ and them doing something useful.
When it’s two male grunts, they say ‘To us, Pokemon trail captains are bad (or something negative)’
And witht he longer words I got that one nailed down
‘With our oily (oiler in katakana) Pokemon, we’ll attack together! Because Guzuma will give us a 200% raise if we do!’

          • I don’t think there was any shared scenes for the grunts, only for Plumeria and Guzma, but I’d have to check again xD

      • Really? Cause I sort of translated the lines and I didn’t really get that. Then again, I’m a beginner in Japanese myself.

        Reply
        • I didn’t finish translating it perfectly but it’s quite clear:

“kukui san yo” – Mr Kukui yo (roughly)
“anta to are wa ontagai” – You and me are
“kyaputain wa narenakatta mo no doushi” – Captain …. blah blah blah (lost the will to live at that point because only two people were interested in my translation of Plumeri’s lines)

          Reply
          • Yeah, but those lines are just similar to the ones we saw in the English trailer. It doesn’t really say he joined Team Skull.
And what were Plumeri’s lines? There were certain parts I definitely got, but some I was confused on. Like she says ‘atai’ which means price or value followed by her name.
And I know s(u)karu is skull, but s(u)ka? I think they are just saying part of their name, but I’m not sure myself.

The tidbit about all grunts have to have matching outfit and they have to buy these by themselves (not distributed) show that they are not really a organization, just some wannabe people come together to create some mess or live like they want. Also Guzma seems very lovable. As mentioned before, I also think he will not be evil, he will just be rampageous or butthurt. I hope when the real danger comes in he will be by our side, just thinking about it makes me drool.

After all, sandcastles are associated with summer and Warmth, whereas snowmen are associated with winter and coldness. Winter also brings longer nights and shorter days, vice versa for Summer. Also, both are man made constructs made from specs of a substance joined together and often with added parts, like carrots and shovels.

    • I am thinking that it is unlikely. There usually is a small amount of ice types in each generation, and we haven’t had an Alola Pokemon revealed that is an ice type (excluding the variants). I feel that it is more likely that Wishiwashi and Pyukumuku would be exclusives for the additional reason of them possibly being found in the same place and both having equally awesome abilities.

      • Wouldn’t they of said they were version exclusive though? Also, one seems to be a weak first stage Pokémon whereas the other seem to be a one stage gimmick Mon, and they’re found in different places in the Japanese trailer.

BIshard uses Thunder Wave to paralyze it, and Ash use Rain Dance to cure it and beat Bisharp, Then Mega Charizard comes out and beats Goodra, Then it’s Charizard vs Ash-Greninja.

Japan has a lot of cultural roles they attempt to translate, but it usually only works if you make the effort to research them.

    • To expand on what Pharap said, the reason she called herself ‘ane’ is because that’s probably what the other grunts call her. You normally use ‘onee-chan’ for big sister, but ‘ane’ is for your own big sister.

dis snowman I have some ideas I know people are saying Ice/Ghost but I’m trying to run down the leaks because some say Ice/Ghost and others I’m trying to figure whose right
Anywho I’m modeling my idea on Japanese folklore of Yuk Jiji the old man of the snow which was basically an avalanche causing spirit

Which works perfectly since Alola has such a perfect snow mountain that’s bound to crumble, so what we can do is a Ice/Ghost Snowball/Snowman/monster that builds power from packing snow into its bodies ergo its new ability that either increases its attack and defense when hit by ice moves or that it changes form in an hailstorm

It readies itself on snowy cliffs and tumbles down to try and scare opponents and if that doesn’t work it uses the avalanche to build its power to fight back

          • Including Alola forms, we have 9 (I believe) new fairies. Comparatively, we have one dragon, and one dark type.

          • And yet fairies still only constitute 5.1% of all Pokemon. If you’re wondering, that makes them extremely rare still.

You hate fairies…I get it. But some people appreciate them adding a good amount to catch up with other types.

          • That’s fair, but Ghost and Ice are even rarer and have been around since gen I… Where’s their overdue overcompensation? Plus, wouldn’t it make sense that fairies would be a rarer type? They’re supposed to be mystical elusive creatures aren’t they?

          • Ghost type Pokemon being rare is more believable considering they are supposed to be *dead* Pokemon. It would be pretty morbid in a children’s game if there were a lot of ghost type Pokemon lol. As for Ice types they suffer from being way to closely associated with animals that would equally be water types. I think most Pokemon that might be ice type are just made water type sometime during development

  95. I’m confused….Why would they point out Zubat and Dragonite if they were just gong to give them Alolan forms? They didn’t do that with any of the others….

  96. Guys! Tbh, I’m not satisfied with just these grunts. I feel like they are grunts and will steal and do malicious things but I get the vibe like there is another team who has real intentions like capturing zygard/Legends of S&M becuase I don’t feel like this team looks like they want to capture the legends. To me either there is another team behind their back, working underground without being seen and these guys just don’t know it (team flare or another team)or the boss looks like he is “Cyrus crazy” and might be working with another team and betray this one (like working with Lysander or they could be related and he just manages team flare on the low key to capture zygard. They do look somewhat from the hair) . That’s just the type of vibe I get. It’s a long shot.

  97. Tbh I don’t understand all the Fairy hate, there’s always going to be a rarest type and it’s already established by how much Fairy Types we got and got retyped last Gen that they’re not going to be an especially rare type.

Also if we’re going to hate types based on broken Pokémon, Dragon and Ground deserve a lot of hatred too :p

    • I don’t necessarily hate them but they were made to balance the game. They’re weak to two of the least common types in competitive (because those two types are weak to common moves like Earthquake and Psychic and Flamethrower). I always thought Dragons were OP but nope. Not anymore. They need to give fairies another weakness or something

      • I’m telling ya’, they need to make ice types resistant to fairy and dragon (2 of the strongest attacking types) and immune to ghost (a type that really doesn’t have much stopping it besides dark, because normal types are so uncommon in competitive) this will also make ice types a more viable defense switch in as well, and balance them out a bit.

    • I don’t think they are that
strong broken type Dragon people say it is one of the best types wrong only Super effective on 1 type resistant to 4 and weak to 3 I say Steel is better!

    • I don’t hate them, they are one of my favorite types, but dear lord they need to cool it with them this gen, we’ve gotten so many for sun and moon already.

  98. Guys I think I have convinced myself on how Alolan Forms work. Pokemon considers each stage in the evolution line as a different species, and the evolution process while seemingly working as metamorphosis in some cases, is actually the process of evolution at work with the genetic composition of the Pokemon dynamically and spontaneously changing taking into effect environmental factors such as the Alolan contextual factors that cause Alolan formes to come into existence. Hence for example, sandshrew which is a shrew considered to be the origin species of all mammals, evolves into a hedgehog, which is actually representative of an evolutionary process. Similarly, A Pikachu in Alola (which presently still resembles Pikachu worldwide) while evolving acknowledges the contextual factors and hence becomes Alolan Raichu.

    • The last thing I want to see is another god damn fairy and even more so if it got the Pseudo legend slot because if that happens it will be fucking annoying to deal with

Just so sick of everything right now

      • if you hate the new Pokemon so much, why don’t you call it quits, leave the franchise and only play on the Pokemon games that you love so much.

*sigh* there’s just no end to ignorance within fanbases nowadays.

        • No, because if I leave then they fucking win, they only way for this to get better is either to get what I deserve or everyone gets their necks slit

I’m sick of just everything constantly going everyone else’s way

          I’m officially in indignation mode

  99. -Morelull’s a new favorite, as I love mushrooms…the name clearly comes from morels and the type may be influenced by the fairy ring mushroom, but the shrooms on that one’s head resemble other species.
-Wishiwashi!! Not feeling wishy-washy about it; that one’s adorable. And hopefully sounds like John Ratzenberger in the schooling form.
-What a name for the sea cuke…XD
-I like the Team Skull girls (Plumeria & the pink-haired grunt.)
-I actually just might enjoy Alolan Meowth & Raichu more than their normal forms (except Team Rocket’s Meowth, of course…he’s Best Meowth forever.)
