Pokémon TCG coming to the iPad

It’s happening, it’s really happening! Pokémon TCG has been playable online for some time now via downloadable software (at least in English), but news is that it’s also coming to the iPad! This is great news for fans who are more reliant on their tablets than their desktops. It’s also a great time to capitalize on the digital TCG craze with Hearthstone consistently ranking high on Apple’s App Store. The image above comes from Josh Wittenkeller’s Twitter account. Bloomberg has also carried the story and confirmed the game’s existence.

Do you play the PC version? Would an iPad version tempt you over?

Personally, I think this would be a great step forward for the series and potentially expand the audience. I’d also be much more likely to play on my iPad versus my PC.

  2. At least their porting it to a popular system. I could see in-app purchases raining over the game! “Buy a card pack for $5.99.”. I could just image it…

  3. I’ve tried to play it online but it would never let me on. It just told me that “this version is not yet playable.” I would love for it to come to ipad. It would mean I didn’t save all those digital cards from my booster packs for nothing.

  6. If any game is shown August 26th, it can possibly be Pokken fighters because at Pokemon Game show was held on August 17th-18th when Pokken fighter teaser shown off it was August 17th, 2013 and know the August 26th announcement event was on August 17th or 18th this exactly year since Pokken Fighter it could be a big coincidence or something more?

  7. I don’t know about anyone else, but I used to love playing the TCG on the GBC, and I’m still a bit disappointed that they never released the sequel outside of Japan. Still, this looks like something I’ll consider getting into.

  8. Pokemon the Movie No. 17 almost made Pokemon franchise history with one of the best multiplier in the franchises history.

x5.86 – Pokemon XY: The Cocoon of Destruction & Diancie [5 Weeks in Release]

    Reply
    • The movie did make a lot of Yen. I think it’s mostly because of the popularity of X/Y. Also, because Diancie is a new Pokemon. Do you know how well the movie was received?

      Reply
      • It has thus far received negative to mixed reviews. A consensus out of all the Japanese/American (Americans living in Japan) viewers was that although the animation was almost impeccable and the film was EXTREMELY better than the fifth gen generated ones, it still lacked depth.

        Reply
          • True. The plot structure does indeed seems to be generic. However, many reviews have specifically noted how the plot structure was quite the deviation from Pokemon’ norm and I hope this is a stepping stone towards more in-depth plot structures in the future. However, even acclaimed anime such as Fairy Tail and Naruto recycle already grown plot structure so this is not a surprise.

  9. Websites dealing with anime have been average or positive, with a harmonic aggregation of 7.5/10 which represents “average to positive.”

Tyrantrum is the only 6th generation Pokemon that knows a One Hit KO Move (And that move is Horn Drill)

  11. If you guys don’t play the TCG, I strongly suggest you check out the TCGO.

It’s a great way to test decks, feel the same surprise of opening a new card pack, and learn the basics of the TCG!

You get a couple of free card packs when you join!

It’s a lot more fun then you think. It’s all about strategy.

  13. I finally finished all the Pokemon anime series, having sat through grueling minutes watching the terrible writing of Black and White unfold before my poor eyes.

I have to say, Pokemon Diamond Pearl series is still one of the best in the series, followed by the Original and Advanced Generation series. I’m sure Pokemon X and Y will be my No. 1 Pokemon Anime Series soon. 😀

  16. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl:
~ An almost quintessential beginning, amazingly paced middle, and one of the greatest climaxes in the Pokemon anime series’ history. The character development for Dawn, Ash, Paul, Zoey, and the gym leaders is beyond perfection. The filler episodes are actually entertaining and some of the best, another highlight to the series and the rivals all have unique characteristics that set them apart from the norm of the series.

    Pokemon Advanced Generation:
~ Again, another perfect blend of great storytelling and character development. The addition of contests added to the entertainment and May’s rivals all had unique characteristics, especially Harley and Drew, her main rivals. Jessie also entering contests was a nice touch.

  20. May and Misty Are the two characters who bye far have the most devlopment out of the whole pokemon anime series.
Misty: Goes from a sassy angry child to a more grown up sassy child who is like a mother figure to togepi her love child
May: Goes from a confused pokemon hating introvert to a sociable caring, loving pokemon coordinator who loves all of her pokemon with all of her heart 😀

  21. Pokemon the Movie No. 17 just passed the 2012 film in terms of sixth week grossing. If it keeps up this amazing August run, it could finish anywhere from $35 million USD to $40 million USD. This film just keeps surprising.

    Reply
  22. You guys might be wondering why I keep tabs on the grossing and such. Well, because of the terrible films Generation Five produced, many critics thought that from here on out, the Pokemon films would barely pass the $25 million threshold. This was true for the Pokemon Temple of the Sea movie but Rise of Darkrai proved them wrong. Again, Movie No. 17 proved the critics wrong. I mean, yes, it’s a considerable drop from the $72 million USD grossing by the Zoroark film but just knowing the franchise is back on track feels amazing! 😀

  23. Earthen, what are you talking about? Just now, the anime’s rating began to increase, the movie began to make more than it’s opening weekend, X and Y is still one of the most watched shows in Japan, the critical reception has been stronger, audiences have broadened, the Pokemon franchise is making a second peak.

  25. What I want to happen:

    ~ Team Ash:

    Ash, Manon, Bonnie, and Clemont

    ~ Team Shauna:
    Shauna, Trevor, and Tierno

    ~ Team Alan
    Alan, Serena, and Ara

The Pokemon series will switch between the lives of each group. Serena is a trainer who is a highly exceptional trainer but when she meets Ash and battles him, she remembers what he did for her and let’s him win. Ara is a Pokemon performer who is famous around the Kalos region but is also a tough trainer. Ara is the first one to notice Serena likes Ash.

    Trainers:
Ash, Alan, Serena, Trevor, and Manon

    Pokemon Performers:
    Shauna and Ara

  26. I think Serena will blossom when she gets over her affection for Ash. I mean let’s be honest, he’s legit holding her up. Once she gets over him, she will focus on herself and develop her true potential.

    Reply
      • I truly think she will. I think her affection for Ash was just a form for her to join the group. She initially travels with Ash because she liked him, but realizes in time that she’s got a path to travel. Mark my words and screenshot it. Serena will get over Ash.

        Reply
    • Look, Serena does not need to get over Ash to have character development. Other anime and shows have had characters that love other characters but it never stopped their development. Terrible writing for Serena is what messed her up. If they wanted to debut her alongside the releases of OR/AS, they could have introduced her a few episodes earlier, build hype around her, and finally debut her! Impressing Ash can also be another big character development factor, one I’m sure Tomokia will utilize. In fact, they could debut Serena alongside Team Shauna and we won’t have to wait an eternity for her character to shine.

      Reply
      • No, she totally has to get over him. Do you really think this puppy dog love will carry on across the whole series? No. It’s still very early on in the series, Ash only has 2 badges. It WILL happen.

        Reply
        • If she does, yay for her. However, we can’t deny how Serena has been treated by the writers for the first season of X and Y. Terrible writing, period.

          Reply
          • No, she has not been treated terribly. Personally, I’d love to see her get some more screen time, but she’s still figuring herself out. I’m not sure what else you can expect from her.

          • ^^^^^^^^^
But srsly lel why doesn’t everyone let the series play out and we’ll find out then.

          • The truth is, I just had my expectations set too high for her. The “figuring herself out” should have been made more prominent and not let Serena wander through the forest in the dark.

          • This is spot on, Chico. It took Serena until episode 7 of the season to join Ash’s team. In addition to that, I feel she’s still trying to figure herself out. A bit like May from the early Hoenn episodes. People need to just give her time for her character to develop and enjoy the anime!

          • Aside from the fact that she’s cute, I love Serena because she reminds me of myself. Just a kid, tryna figure my life out.

          • Yeah, and I don’t mind that about her one bit. Besides, isn’t she the first female protagonist that didn’t already know what she wanted to do with her life (or figure it out shortly after her introduction to the anime)? That makes her realistic to me, and I really like that about her.

  27. Serena is a late bloomer and I just hope the writers do her character justice because we all know she has a chance of becoming one of the best female companions for Ash. Here’s to hoping for Serena to even follow Ash to the next region!

  31. For the Poke Games, would you guys rather have 1 week for every group of battles, which means that the 24 tributes would each get 1 week to battle somebody else until there are only 2 left, or would you rather be given the entire month to battle at whatever time is best?

  35. I haven’t sat down and played Pokemon for almost a goddamn year. I just got bored of X after completing the National ‘Dex for the first time in my life and…left it. I can’t wait for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (I decided to get both!) so I can revisit the simpler times. Before I was a crazed, Game-Grumps-obsessed, expensive-item-displaying, video-game-soundtrack-studying lunatic.

    • When did you quit Pokemon? Depending on that, then it couldn’t have approached almost a year. Six months perhaps? Because Bank didn’t come out until Feb, unless you traded with the lucky initial Bank users…

You might try to get into competitive like me, or shiny hunting like them.

I’ve got both X&Y, but this time, I’m only getting Alpha Sapphire.

      Reply
      • I never stopped playing it outright, it just slowed down severely. I just didn’t have fun with X for some reason, but that was due to my own preferences. I’m planning on getting into competitive in ORAS to go along with the much expanded post-game content, so there’s no stopping this train 🙂

        Reply
        • I guess it is true that X&Y was boring-er, especially in the post-game… and it’s only the Battle Maison that keeps people in who aren’t doing Battle Spot and VGC, which kind of sucks.

  36. People are actually thinking that the announcement may be a new game for a new console (wii u or a newer console). Aside from my previous thought, due to the a bunch of words like “shocking, stunning etc.” cant really be for an anime, my thoughts are maybe an anime game? you can play as ash or your own character and go on your adventure and it’s all hd or something that you can play on wii u or tv??…. or the news could have been pokemon games coming to mobile devices and ipads and other handheld devices… just ideas though?

    Reply
    • But with ORAS not being released yet, I think the only option is a Wii U game. Or possibly a 3DS game, but the chances of that seem slim.
