To celebrate the release of Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 (which comes out today), let’s take a look at what the press has said about the two games and also what some Pokémon fansite webmasters had to say when I asked them 😀
- IGN (9.6 out of 10)
[styledbox type=”shadow” ]
”Don’t underestimate Pokémon Black Version 2. Rather than just a slightly expanded repackaging of the latest generation’s core titles (a la Pokémon Yellow, Crystal, Emerald or Platinum), this direct sequel breaks the Pokémon mid-generation mold by offering a brand new adventure in the Unova region. What you might expect is more of the same – and for the most part, that’s what you get. Considering the caliber of what came before, this certainly isn’t a bad thing – but Black 2 manages to complement this “same” with some truly apt refinements and a stunning amount of fresh content. The final result is a game that features some of the most cinematic moments the franchise has ever seen, and the most fully realized Pokémon game to ever make use of the DS hardware.” – Audrey Drake
[/styledbox]
Joystiq (4 out of 5 stars)
[styledbox type=”shadow” ]
”Playing through Pokémon Black and White 2 has proven to be a refreshing experience for me. Wandering the world with my Infernape in tow, I’m constantly struck by just how big the world of Pokémon has gotten. Through Wi-Fi features like the Global Trade Service and StreetPass-type elements like Join Avenue, where special shop vendors are added by passing other fans, I feel more connected than ever. There really is a ridiculous amount to do once the limiters are off and you can explore at your leisure. I often wish I could just skip the badge-collecting and get right down to the business of fighting in tournaments and collecting Pokémon.” – Kat Bailey
[/styledbox]

[styledbox type=”shadow” ]
”In my view, Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 are the greatest Pokémon games that GameFreak have ever made. They refine the gameplay to an absolute near perfection and add so many new features. These new features are designed for the core player, with the very tricky Pokémon World Tournament and the items found within Join Avenue to help players train their Pokémon. The continuation of the story with the ability to send your progress from Black & White over is also brilliant. As such, it makes me wonder how they’ll be able to top this.“
[/styledbox]

[styledbox type=”shadow” ]
The fact that Black and White 2 is happening is amazing. They expand upon the groundwork set in Black and White and have taken the story further than any previous games. It will be fun to play though the game and unraveling the mystery within the games. My hopes for BW2 are that it won’t be as easy and quick to play as BW. These games need to be challenging and entertaining to push players to play pass the main story for years to come. It will be interesting to see what GameFreak has done to push the envelope.
[/styledbox]
Pretty positive if you ask me! My own experiences were also great, I loved playing through the Japanese version of Black 2 and seeing the “new” Unova region. The changes that have been made greatly add to the length of the game (medals, World Tournament, Black City/White Forest, etc) and really make it one of the greatest Pokémon games to date 🙂
