Kanto Region & Town Guide

Kanto Region – RGYB

Pallet Town

Pallet Town is where the main character (you) lives and starts out before going on their adventure. The protagonist gets their starter pokemon from here from Professor Oak. You can find wild Pokemon here, but, only in the small pond using the fishing rod or the move surf.

Viridian City

Viridian City is north of Pallet Town and is the first city the player will encounter. Here, you are introduced to the Pokemon Center (Beginning of the game) by your rival character. Here, you can also see the eighth gym leader, Giovanni. To the right of the image of the map, there is a route that leads into the Pokemon League. When you move forward to route 2, you’ll enter Viridian Forest.

Pewter City

Pewter City is north of Viridian City and is the second city that the player will encounter. Here, you will face your first gym leader, Brock. Also, you can revive fossils that you obtain in the Pokemon Museum of Science. In this game, you can revive Kabuto or Omanyte. To the west of this map, you’ll enter a route toward Mt. Moon. From there, you’ll enter the next city, Cerulean City.

Cerulean City

Cerulean City is east of Pewter City. This city is the third city that the player is introduced to. Here, the player will face the second gym leader, Misty. Also, the player is able to get Bulbasaur (In Pokemon Yellow). North from this city is a bridge that leads you to Bill’s House. Bill created the PC system, so, you’ll meet him and he’ll talk about his studies and give you tickets to the St. Anne in Vermillion City.

Vermillion City

Vermillion City is the fourth city that the player is introduced to. This city is south of Cerulean City. Here, the player must enter the St. Anne and receive HM01 (Cut). From there, the player can cut the tree to enter the gym to battle the gym leader, Lt. Surge. In this city, the player can receive the Pokemon, Squirtle (In Pokemon Yellow).

Lavender Town

Lavender Town is the fifth town that the player is introduced to. This town is the spookiest town in Kanto. This town is home to Pokemon Tower, a tower where Pokemon are buried and many of their trainers come to pay their respects. The player must come to this tower to save Mr. Fuji from the evil team, Team Rocket. From there, the player meets a ghost which is Cubone’s mother and must travel to Saffron City to get the Silphscope to see-through ghosts. There has been a rumor that stated that the theme in the Japanese games caused many people to have suicidal thoughts (We will not go in detail about this, just a rumor).

Celadon City

Celadon City is the sixth city that the player is introduced to. This city is home to the gym leader, Erika. This city contains several stores and fun activities. First, it as the Celadon Mall. This mall contains several items that will help the player such as stones, restores, etc. Next, we have the game corner. The game corner allows players to “gamble” coins to earn more coins. Using these coins, you can buy items and Pokemon. (Gamble is under quotes because it isn’t 100% gambling, however, in future games, this was removed due to ESRB ratings.)

Saffron City

Saffron City is the seventh that is introduced to the player. This city is in between Lavender town and Celadon City. This city has the gym leader, Sabrina, where the player can earn their sixth gym badge. In the center of the map, Silph Co. is invaded by Team Rocket. The player must go through the building to save the president of the company. Once the player defeats Team Rocket, they receive the Silphscope and the Master Ball. A Master Ball is an ultimate Pokeball that allows any Pokemon to be caught.

Fuschia City

Fuschia City is the eighth city that the player is introduced to. This city is south of Saffron City. This city is home to the gym leader, Koga. Here, the player can go to the Safari Zone and face pokemon that “cannot” be seen in the wild. (Cannot is in quotes because some of the Pokemon are seen postgame).

Cinnabar Island

Cinnabar Island is the ninth and final city that the player is introduced to. This city is on an island, south of Pallet Town. This city is home to the gym leader, Blaine. On this island, you’ll find the Pokemon Mansion where you can read about the creation of the legendary Pokemon, Mewtwo. In that same building, you can find strong Pokemon like Magmar.
