We now have an official release date for the Pokémon battling game Pokémon Champions: April 8! A new overview trailer has also been released, as well as some additional details about the game. It will first launch on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 consoles, with a release for mobile devices coming later. The Nintendo Switch 2 release will feature enhanced graphics.
Starting in April, Play! Pokémon VGC competitions will be using Champions.
In Champions, players will be able to freely customize their Pokémon in a very direct way: Victory Points earned in battles can be used to purchase move changes, swapped Natures and also different Abilities.
Pricing
Although free-to-start, Pokémon Champions will have optional in-game purchases available. The Starter Pack will be available to buy when it launches on April 8 and includes:
- Additional 50 Pokémon spaces in your Box storage
- Trainer Battle song from Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!
- 30 Teammate Tickets
- 50 Training Tickets
The Japanese information also includes a pricing of the season Battle Pass being 1400 JPY and a membership to Champions costing 700 JPY per month or 7000 JPY per year.
Pokémon HOME compatibility
As has previously been announced, you’ll be able to send Pokémon to visit Pokémon Champions from Pokémon HOME if they are compatible.
Pokémon whose moves, Nature and Ability are changed in Champions will not retain those changes when returned to HOME. In addition, Pokémon recruited in Champions cannot be sent back to HOME.
Abilities revealed for new Mega Evolutions
Mega Meganium, Mega Emboar and Mega Feraligatr have had their Abilities revealed following their debut in the Ability-less Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
- Mega Meganium will receive the new ability Mega Sol which allows it to unleash moves as if Harsh Sunlight was active on the field.
- Mega Emboar will receive the existing Ability Mold Breaker.
- Meta Feraligatr will receive the new ability Dragonize which converts Normal attacks into Dragon type and boosts their power by 20%.
