Ahead of Pokémon Day on February 27, Pokémon UNITE has announced some big news — Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres will all be joining the roster of playable Pokémon in the game.
Zapdos will be the first to join and will arrive exactly on Pokémon Day. In a recent forum post, a preview of each character and their role was given:
- Articuno (Defender)
- Clad in a blizzard, Articuno creates a domain that allows no entry. Its Unite Move, through cold air that brings everything to a standstill, even freezes the opponent’s hope of victory.
- Zapdos (Attacker)
- Controlling electricity at will, Zapdos dominates the stadium as an Attacker that strikes opponents with amplified, powerful electric shocks. Its Unite Move possesses astounding performance where the pouring lightning strikes shatter the opponent’s defense.
- Moltres (All-Rounder)
- Standing firm on the stadium with incredible regenerative power, Moltres overwhelms opponents with intense, raging flames as an All-Rounder. Its Unite Move emits a crimson radiance that dispels all darkness, bringing an opportunity to the team that does not let hidden opponents escape.
In 2026, the game is aiming to release two Pokémon a month.
New Solo Mode announced
A new mode which allows players to enjoy a more casual, solo experience is coming in which CPU opponents will provide a good environment for practicing new Pokémon or just having fun without the stress of teammates relying on you.
There are rewards for clearing levels and also a Hard difficulty for those looking to take on a challenge by themselves.
Changes to Move learning
Previously players would choose which Moves a Pokémon would learn when they leveled up in matches but that will soon change. Going forward and starting with Zapdos, new Pokémon will have a single moveset which should lower the difficulty for new players and prevent poorly optimized setups in game.
In addition, for Pokémon that have multiple moves to choose from, the choice will be set before a match even begins.
