In August, the sleep-tracking game Pokémon Sleep will introduce a new Expert Mode for players who are looking for additional challenge. The mode will make raising Snorlax harder to raise, but have plenty of rewards for those who are up for it.
How to unlock expert mode in Pokémon Sleep
To unlock this new mode, players will have to reach the Master 18 rating on Greengrass Isle. Players who have already accomplished this will have the mode unlocked immediately.
Playing in expert mode
In order to play an area in expert mode, you will need to use an Expert Ticket. These can be purchased or exchanged for 200 sleep points (100 sleep points in the Premium Exchange). A free Expert Ticket will be available from the initial expert mode tutorial. There is an overall limit of 2 Expert Tickets that can be held at once, so they cannot be stockpiled.
When playing in expert mode, there will be various changes:
- Snorlax’s favorite Berries for the week will be divided into one main favorite and two sub-favorites. Pokémon that gather Snorlax’s main favorite Berry will receive bonuses, such as shorter helping frequency.
- On the other hand, Pokémon that don’t gather any of Snorlax’s weekly favorite Berries will receive a longer helping frequency penalty.
- One additional bonus related to raising Snorlax will be selected at random every week. (Note: The selected bonuses will normally not be the same type of bonuses as those from ongoing events at the same time.)
- Instead of an area bonus, expert mode areas will accumulate an expert bonus.
Rewards for expert mode are still being finalized, but right now they include:
- The amount of Drowsy Power required to see Pokémon sleep styles will greatly increase, but the amount of Research EXP, Dream Shards, and Pokémon Candies you get for researching each sleep style will also increase.
- You’ll have an increased chance to encounter Shiny Pokémon.
- Multiple expert mode–exclusive weekly missions will be added.
- For example: If you sleep for X hours alongside Fire-type helper Pokémon that collect Snorlax’s main favorite Berry for that week, you can get multiple Handy Candies S as a reward.
- The kinds of Pokémon that appear on Greengrass Isle in expert mode can differ from those that normally appear on Greengrass Isle.
- You’ll have an increased chance to encounter certain Special Pokémon.
- Greengrass Isle (Expert) – Raikou will have an increased appearance rate
