The first part of the DLC, The Teal Mask, will be released in about a month on September 13! An exact release date for Part 2: The Indigo Disk.

New Pokémon and Paradox Pokémon revealed

During the new Scarlet and Violet DLC trailer, two new Pokémon were revealed, as well as two mysterious new Paradox Pokémon!

Dipplin

Dipplin is a new evolution of Applin and will appear in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask. It is a Grass/Dragon-type Pokémon and has the ability Supersweet Syrup or Gluttony. Supersweet Syrup is a new ability that activates when the Pokémon is sent into battle and lowers the evasiveness of the opposing Pokémon.

It also knows the new move Syrup Bomb which is a Grass-type attack that lowers the target’s Speed stat for three turns.

Archaludon

Archaludon is a new evolution of Duraludon, a Pokémon who did not appear in Scarlet or Violet. It is a Steel/Dragon-type Pokémon and can have the abilities Stamina or Sturdy. It resembles a staple remover when standing on its hind legs and a bridge when on all fours.

It also knows the new move called Electro Shot which takes a turn to charge up (and appears to raise the user’s Special Attack) and then launches a powerful attack. This turn to charge up can actually be skipped if the Rain weather condition is active.

Raging Bolt and Iron Crown

The new trailer also revealed two new Paradox Pokémon, one of which was Raging Bolt, a prehistoric-looking Raikou. It appears in the DLC for Pokémon Scarlet owners.

The other is Iron Crown, a futuristic-looking Cobalion. It appears in the DLC for Pokémon Violet owners.

Further details about the Pokémon, including their types and abilities, were not shared.

New Pokémon Forms

New forms of previously revealed Pokémon related to both parts one and two of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC and have a special connection to the Terastal Phenomenon.

Ogrepon

The Legendary Pokémon Ogrepon will appear in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask and has a special Terastallized state. Its mask changes appearance slightly (now has vines, horns) and grows substantially while appearing crystallized.

Terapagos

The small, unnamed turtle Pokémon that looked similar to the DLC Pokémon Terapagos has turned out to be… Terapagos! Specifically, Terapagos’ “Normal Form”. The larger form that was first revealed is known as its Terastal Form. Unknown if that is limited to Terastrallizing or the exact form change mechanics.

New characters to meet in the DLC

There are many new faces to meet in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero and a few new ones were introduced yesterday.

Perrin

The photographer Perrin is a new character looking to get a shot of a particular Pokémon… She appears in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask and will explore the Timeless Woods with the player in order to photograph Pokémon.

Ms. Briar

Ms. Briar is a Blueberry Academy teacher and is very interested in the Terastal phenomenon. She also seems to share some physical features with Bramblin or Brambleghast. You’ll notice her eyes, hairstyle and hair color bear a striking resemblance, as well as her name alluding to thorns. Could she use one of them in battles?

The BB League Elite Four

The Blueberry Academy has its own BB League headed by an Elite Four. After beating their individual Elite Trials, you can face Amarys, Crispin, Drayton and the previously revealed Blueberry Academy second-year student Lacey.

You’ll be able to challenge them in Part 2: The Indigo Disk.

New activities introduced in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC

Players can look forward to some fun new activities that can break up the battling in the upcoming Scarlet and Violet DLC.

Ogre Oustin’

The new Ogre Oustin’ event will challenge players to collect berries by popping balloons scattered throughout the game area. Higher difficulty levels may require cooperation between players to both gather berries and guard their stockpile.

Players will be rewarded with Mochi, which you can read more about in the ‘New Features’ section below.

Pokémon photography

While Perrin will be tasking you to help her take photos as part of the story, it’s likely that players will be able to revisit the photography section and continue to relive their Pokémon Snap fantasies in Kitakami.

New features introduced in the DLC

Players can expect some new features in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC and the Pokémon Presents information teased a few which we detail below.

Flying

Although players can navigate the air with Koraidon and Miraidon’s gliding ability, the ability for a more powerful flying capability was teased for the DLC. Mentioned in Amarys’ Elite Trial, the official site suggests that “perhaps someday this hidden potential will be fully unleashed.” It seems likely it will be.

Stat-boosting Mochi

Mochi, Japanese rice cake, is now a new way to help get your Pokémon ready for competitive battles! Awarded from the Ogre Oustin’ mini-game, Mochi can raise (or even reset) a Pokémon’s Base Points. Fans often call these Effort Values or EVs.

Improved photo-taking capabilities

Players can take photos during their adventure in Scarlet and Violet, but the DLC will bring some improvements to this system to allow for even more creative shots:

  • The Roto-Stick will allow you to take photos with wider angles
  • You can now tell Pokémon to wait in place to better position them for photos
  • Photos taken during Union Circle sessions with other players can now be shared with them

Let us know what you thought about all the new information and if there’s something that was revealed that you’re really excited for! Personally, I’m glad they’ve expanded the photo-taking capabilities of players. I’m sure we’ll see some creative shots from the community!
